[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
I believe I have found the solution to this problem, I think it was caused by an incorrect AppArmor setup. My home directory is not located in /home/ but the AppArmor /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home tunable had not been updated to reflect this as described in: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Adjusting_Tunables After adding my home directory to the @{HOME} list, or alternatively the location to @{HOMEDIRS}, the problem with evince has gone away. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247621 Title: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1247621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
I have found a workaround, although it is a bit of a pain to do every time. If I right-click in the search bar and select a different Input Method then I can type and find works as expected. Whenever evince is opened the input method always already selected is: System (IBus (Intelligent Input Bus)) If I select something else from the list, including None, Simple or X Input Method then I can type. If I select System (IBus) then I can't type again. So the problem seems to be related to this in some way. If I try the same thing in gedit then I find I can type with System (IBus) selected without any problems. Evince is the only thing I have seen this behaviour in so far.
[Bug 1215826] Re: Lost ability to remap Caps Lock to Ctrl
In response to #35. - Install Ubuntu 13.10 - Go to keyboard layout settings - Find 'CapsLock Key Behavior' and set to eg Make CapsLock an additional ctrl or Make CapsLock an additional backspace. The last point worked for years, up until Ubuntu 13.10. The option to set CapsLock key behaviour is no longer there, and there appears to be no replacement. [Bug 1086471] [NEW] Alt-tab doesn't switch between windows of same application on external monitor
Public bug reported: Expected behaviour: When my laptop has no external monitor plugged in, if the two most recently focused windows are from the same application then alt-tab will happily switch between them without needing to wait for the application icon in the switcher to explode into the two subwindows. It does this whether the switcher overlay has had time to pop up or not. Buggy behaviour on external monitor: However, if I have an external 1920x1080 monitor plugged in (with laptop screen off) alt-tab becomes partially stuck on the most recent window. No matter how many times I try to alt-tab from the most recent window to the second most recent of the same application group, it always selects the currently focused window. It will not switch to the other window until the application icon explodes into its component windows, at which point it will automatically select the correct window as soon as the exploding is complete. In this situation it will still switch to a different application without issue. The result is that to alt-tab between the two most recent windows, if they happen to be of the same application, takes a few seconds because you must wait for the sub-window explosion or invoke it via the arrow keys. One side effect of this bug (at least, I assume this bug is the cause) is that when using alt-tab on a viewport which has a window from an adjacent workspace intruding 2px into it, selecting the unwanted window causes that window to fully move onto the current viewport. Nothing on the screen is changing except powertop in the terminal. i915 interrupt always shows between 8 - 40 wakeups per second. It tends to hang around the 8-per-second mark, never dropping below, and frequently increasing to around 30. Compiz itself does not show up. At no point is there any interaction or visual change on the desktop except in the terminal window. I don't see this when running without compiz, in either Unity 2D or Ubuntu Classic (no effects). The machine is an Intel Atom N450 with intregrated GMA3150 gpu. It's possible this is related to bug #681696, however in that bug it is compiz itself that causes the wakeups rather than i915. [Bug 188308] Re: colemak is broken
Is this really a bug in xkeyboard-config, the keyboard configuration files? I don't think so. The layout works fine if used as the default and only layout in gnome-keyboard-properties (except for the issue that the key doesn't repeat). The problem occurs if trying to switch between layouts in gnome- keyboard-properties...the caps lock behaviour is not properly set in this situation. I find that if I start off with colemak as the default and switch to a standard layout using the applet then the colemak caps lock behaviour (as backspace) persists. If however I start off with a standard layout and switch to colemak I get the strange bug where the caps lock key is both caps lock and backspace at the same time. Perhaps this is a bug in gnome-keyboard-properties. -- colemak is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty, karmic] Sound muted after boot
I ran into this bug suddenly today on a standard Karmic gnome installation that was working fine before. I've no idea what I did for it to suddenly start happening, I didn't do an upgrade and I didn't install xubuntu-desktop like in some other comments. I can confirm that #38 (commenting out mute_and_zero_levels $TARGET_CARD || EXITSTATUS=1) did not work for me. However #77 (commenting out load-module module-device-restore in PA config) has fixed my problem. [Bug 268615] Re: X fails to start with intel 4500MHD GMA
I'm seeing this issue on a Sony Vaio laptop with the same graphics chipset, Intel 4500MHD. The model number of the laptop (in the UK at least) is VGN-SR19XN. As Daniel describes the splash screen displays fine, then when X starts you see nothing but a blank screen. X has started though and you can hear the Ubuntu desktop startup sound. You can see that apart from this little (!) issue the driver is working fine by plugging in an external monitor (in Ubuntu 8.10 Beta). Even the desktop effects work beautifully. But the laptop screen is completely black. I have tried with Ubuntu 8.04.1 and 8.10 Beta live CDs. 8.10 Beta uses xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu6. I've included my Xorg.0.log from booting 8.10 Beta. I can't see anything glaringly obvious in it. ** Attachment added: X log from booting 8.10 Beta http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18305167/Xorg.0.log -- X fails to start with intel 4500MHD GMA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 268615] Re: X fails to start with intel 4500MHD GMA
Both Daniel's problem and mine are a manifestation of the xorg bug here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17292 It appears to be a quirk affecting a particular model of Sony Vaio laptop that has the Intel Cantiga integrated graphics. From this bug report and the upstream one, it seems that at least the following models of Sony laptop are affected * VGN-SR140D * VGN-SR19XN * VGN-SR11M As far as I can see these are simply international variants of exactly the same model of laptop. -- X fails to start with intel 4500MHD GMA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 220283] Re: Gnome volume OSD displays incorrectly
I have the same issue with Hardy, and now with my Intrepid Ibex Beta install. In my case the volume OSD displays correctly most of the time, but sometimes will appear blank. So it is less severe for me but I suspect the same bug. If I gradually increase the volume from low to high with the multimedia buttons on my Dell Inspiron the volume OSD level will increase also. But at some point along the way it will show a level of 0, but the audio will still be playing at the correct level. When I increase the volume again the bar pops back to the correct level. I've attached a screenshot that also contains the volume control showing what level the volume is really at. ** Attachment added: Screenshot of OSD showing incorrect level and volume control showing correct level. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18232148/volumeosd.png -- Gnome volume OSD displays incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220283 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 274155] Re: Intrepid: quiet splash freezes but verbose boots up fine
I have identical symptoms with Intrepid Beta. The boot almost always stops at 1/5 through progress bar. It does not recover from this and I have to hold the power button on my laptop. I was convinced that it did it every time but once I did enough boots I discovered that occasionally it will make it through booting fine on it's own. When I remove the quiet splash kernel option it boots fine most times - there appears to be a positive effect in removing these options. But in my case at least, that is not the whole story, because if I keep rebooting it will occasionally fail in apparently the same manner (though there is no progress bar of course the timing, CPU and HDD activity dying down are the same). In these situations it normally does so at loading hardware drivers exactly as Pajari and Guo Xi have stated above. In the same vein it will also sometimes fail when booting into recovery mode (which has no splash screen anyway). When booting into recovery mode the failure instead seems to occur after the line: iwl3945: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 23 802.11a channels It took many boots to discover that the quiet splash fix did not fix the problem 100% of the time, but I wonder if that fix is a red herring. My hardware is a Dell Inspiron 9400. It has Intel 3945ABG wireless using iwl3945 driver, Intel 945GM graphics, and Intel Core Duo CPU. -- Intrepid: quiet splash freezes but verbose boots up fine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274155 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 189387] Re: imap refresh don't refresh new folder
I have also just noticed this bug in Hardy Heron. With Evolution closed, I create new IMAP folders (using Thunderbird, which I then close). Afterwards, when I open Evolution for the first time the folders are not there in the sidebar. Refreshing any of the visible folders or sending/receiving mail does not make a difference. Once I close the program and then open Evolution a second time the folders are there. Notes on subscriptions: Whether or not show only subscribed folders is ticked makes no difference, the new folders still do not show up in the sidebar. However in the folder subscriptions window any the new folders are listed (and ticked!) even if this is the first time I have opened Evolution since creating the folder and therefore it is not visible in the side pane. -- imap refresh don't refresh new folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189387 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
