[Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M
Thank you for your anwer. - The bug report above contains catalyst because I was unable to get to a working GUI without it (and when I try to send bug report from console, it logs in with wrong information and I don't know how to change that). - emailcustomercare just says that their driver comes as-is and that's it :-( Following your instructions: I uninstalled the driver following the instructions under Removing Catalyst/fglrx of your cchtml link. - First reboot: Everything works great - Second reboot: Same problems again, this time even 2x complete system hang (NumLock and CapsLock not responding, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and Ctrl+Alt+Delete not working). - Choosing Advanced Ubuntu Options - Recovery mode - Resume boot, I finally succeeded getting to a working GUI (GNOME Fallback). I created an error report with the actual problem situation (no catalyst installed) and marked it as a duplicate of this bug. Link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1176053 I will now install catalyst manually, following your instructions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173217 Title: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! [Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M
Manual catalyst installation done, no errors. When I have two screens connected, everything works fine (even skype loads). However, when I disconnect a screen and reboot, the desktop and all windows are highly distorted and the mouse doesn't point where it seems to. I attached a picture. The system is not usable like that. I will return to 13.4 from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx (it is the driver that causes the least problems) In brief, - open source driver still not working - catalyst works for either two screens (manual installation described above) or one screen (amd 13.4 driver) = There is still no solution that allows to connect / disconnect a screen without completely reinstalling the driver :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173217 Title: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! [Bug 1162853] Re: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M
So now I tried to install the Xorg driver via Sources, then I did apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati. This time, the login screen won't even work (see attachments). I had to connect an external screen in order to see something. The external screen is too large on its bottom. Note that my version is 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1, just like the one out-of-the-box. However, it does work out-of-the-box and it does not work with the updates installed. Please help me out. ** Attachment added: This picture shows the login screen after --reinstall treatment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1162853/+attachment/3626068/+files/DSC03892.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162853 Title: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1162853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1162853] [NEW] trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M
Public bug reported: Unity just shows blank black screen with mouse, this is why I'm currently on LXDE. The screen is divided on about 1/3 horizontally, as shown in the picture. At that point of the screen, the right edge ends and the next pixel is the left edge. To move the mouse from right to left, I have to go out to the right of the physical screen and the mouse will pop back in from the left. Same thing with lightdm. The proprietary driver is causing much trouble too, but different nature. IMPORTANT: Out of the box, everything works perfectly with free driver. When installing the updates, troubles start. [Bug 1073634] [NEW] iMac: Screen resolution not working after upgrade to 12.10
Public bug reported: My iMac worked fine under 12.10 (with NVIDIA driver I believe, but not sure), then I did the upgrade to 12.10. On reboot, X said that the graphics are not detected correctly. I chose to reset the graphics and rebooted from tty1 that worked, but bad resolution. This time, it started up, but Unity was not loaded. Also bad screen resolution. I killed x with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and came to the lightdm login screen (bad resolution too). LXDE and Gnome Classic both work, but not Unity. All of them have the same bad resolution. I can't find any place where I could install proprietary driver like I did in 12.04. For some reason, there's an AMD Catalyst Control Center, but when I fire it up, it says there's no driver installed. How do I get my screen fixed? The problem might have been caused by my first NTFS partition that must have been corrupted. While trying to resize it, GPARTED failed. [Bug 880240] Re: system doesn't turn off if sudo halt is given
Had to change all my scripts to sudo poweroff. This is kinda embarrassing. What's the use of a halt-command that doesn't actually turn off the machine? Who needs a computer that's ready for poweroff but still running? I believe that the halt-command made more sence before than it does now. [Bug 998013] [NEW] Intelligent Edges stopped working
Public bug reported: I've set Compiz via CCSM so that it would show desktop when I place the mouse in the bottom left corner and that it scales the windows when I place it in the right bottom corner. Also, I use Enhanced Zoom Desktop (Ctrl+wheel). A few days ago, the edges stopped working, zoom is still working all right. I have no proprietary drivers on the system, and none are available. [Bug 956145] [NEW] Unity crashes on right click
Public bug reported: When I right-click an element, Unity crashes (that's a new behaviour that appeared yesterday I believe). Please see the attached video. Video: I have two screens. I selected an area to record that masks my personal data, but everything you need to know is in there. First, I right-click a file on my desktop. Unity crashes. Now, I can right-click the file again, this time the menu appears. As you can see, I chose to have icons in the menu. I select to open the file with gedit. It's a script to restart unity. I open the file again, this time I chose run. Unity restarts. This can be repeated. The first time after reboot, Uniy restarts automatically, no message appears. The second time and any other time, the behaviour as in the film happens. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956145 Title: Unity crashes on right click To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/956145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 950129] [NEW] sudo halt won't cause halt
Public bug reported: When typing sudo halt into a terminal, ubuntu shuts down completely, but won't turn off my hp compaq 6730s laptop. The hard disk makes a clicking sound (that means it's turned off), but power remains on, displaying a frozen ubuntu logo. I upgraded from 11.10 via update-manager. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950129 Title: sudo halt won't cause halt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/950129/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 950137] [NEW] Left bottom screen edge should show desktop
Public bug reported: I've set up compiz so the left bottom screen edge shows the desktop (under general options in CC-settings-manager) and the bottom right corner shows all windows as small previews. When I start up my computer, the bottom right corner works fine. However, nothing happens if I move the mouse into the bottom left corner. When compiz crashes and reloads, or when I reload it manually using compiz fusion icon, both corners work fine. However, after the next reboot, left corner remains broken. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950137 Title: Left bottom screen edge should show desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/950137/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 936326] [NEW] Dragging a window from one screen to another: Window loses reference to mouse
Public bug reported: I have two screens, the left one has resolution of 1280x1024, the right one 1280x800. I've set them up so that they're on a line on their bottom and the left screen is higher than the right one. Between them there's a height difference on the top edge, and the mouse stops there. When I move it down and to the right, it keeps running straight down until it reaches the height of the right screen, than it enters the right screen. The problem: When I drag a window from the left screen to the right one, the mouse stops correctly on the edge that marks the difference between the screens, however, its coordinates relative to the window title bar I'm dragging get somehow messed up. So when I enter the right screen, the window is as far away from the mouse as I dragged it against the border merking the height difference. Please see the attached video, as this bug is really hard to explain. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936326 Title: Dragging a window from one screen to another: Window loses reference to mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/936326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
