[Bug 1183020] [NEW] Skype icon does not show up in top bar

[Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M

2013-05-03 Thread Kalsan
Thank you for your anwer.
- The bug report above contains catalyst because I was unable to get to a
working GUI without it (and when I try to send bug report from console, it logs
in with wrong information and I don't know how to change that).
- emailcustomercare just says that their driver comes as-is and that's it :-(

Following your instructions:
I uninstalled the driver following the instructions under Removing
Catalyst/fglrx of your cchtml link.
- First reboot: Everything works great
- Second reboot: Same problems again, this time even 2x complete system hang
(NumLock and CapsLock not responding, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and Ctrl+Alt+Delete
not working).
- Choosing Advanced Ubuntu Options - Recovery mode - Resume boot, I finally
succeeded getting to a working GUI (GNOME Fallback). I created an error report
with the actual problem situation (no catalyst installed) and marked it as a
duplicate of this bug. Link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1176053

I will now install catalyst manually, following your instructions.

[Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M

2013-05-03 Thread Kalsan
Manual catalyst installation done, no errors. When I have two screens
connected, everything works fine (even skype loads). However, when I
disconnect a screen and reboot, the desktop and all windows are highly
distorted and the mouse doesn't point where it seems to. I attached a
picture. The system is not usable like that. I will return to 13.4 from
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx (it
is the driver that causes the least problems)

In brief,
- open source driver still not working
- catalyst works for either two screens (manual installation described above)
or one screen (amd 13.4 driver)
= There is still no solution that allows to connect / disconnect a screen
without completely reinstalling the driver :-(

2013-05-01 Thread Kalsan
Watch out! Unity stopped working for me! I had to log off, get on the GNOME
fallback, install the AMD driver again and reboot. Now Unity works again but
skype is crashing again too...
Now I can choose between Unity and skype but not both at the same time...
Anybody experiencing similar problems?

[Bug 1173217] [NEW] Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M

2013-04-26 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

The right screen edge and the left one are merged towards the middle of the
screen. To go from the left to the right edge, I need to exit the physical
screen to the right and the mouse will enter it at the left again. Unity
doesn't start. Please check the attached pictures.
I had the same problem with 12.10 (not out-of-the-box but after installing
updates for the first time). Under 13.04, it works on a Live-USB-Key, but then
stops working after a fresh install. Upgrading the system to lastest version
doesn't help.

[Bug 1162853] Re: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M

2013-04-06 Thread Kalsan
So now I tried to install the Xorg driver via Sources, then I did apt-get
install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati. This time, the login screen won't
even work (see attachments). I had to connect an external screen in order to
see something. The external screen is too large on its bottom.
Note that my version is 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1, just like the
one out-of-the-box. However, it does work out-of-the-box and it does not work
with the updates installed.
Please help me out.

** Attachment added: This picture shows the login screen after --reinstall
treatment

[Bug 1162853] [NEW] trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M

2013-04-01 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

Unity just shows blank black screen with mouse, this is why I'm currently on
LXDE. The screen is divided on about 1/3 horizontally, as shown in the picture.
At that point of the screen, the right edge ends and the next pixel is the left
edge. To move the mouse from right to left, I have to go out to the right of
the physical screen and the mouse will pop back in from the left. Same thing
with lightdm.
The proprietary driver is causing much trouble too, but different nature.
IMPORTANT: Out of the box, everything works perfectly with free driver. When
installing the updates, troubles start.

[Bug 1073634] [NEW] iMac: Screen resolution not working after upgrade to 12.10

2012-10-31 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

My iMac worked fine under 12.10 (with NVIDIA driver I believe, but not sure),
then I did the upgrade to 12.10. On reboot, X said that the graphics are not
detected correctly. I chose to reset the graphics and rebooted from tty1 that
worked, but bad resolution. This time, it started up, but Unity was not loaded.
Also bad screen resolution. I killed x with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and came to the
lightdm login screen (bad resolution too). LXDE and Gnome Classic both work,
but not Unity. All of them have the same bad resolution.
I can't find any place where I could install proprietary driver like I did in
12.04. For some reason, there's an AMD Catalyst Control Center, but when I fire
it up, it says there's no driver installed.
How do I get my screen fixed?

[Bug 1073653] [NEW] GRUB won't load

2012-10-31 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I installed Grub-Customizer on my system. Don't know if that is the cause for
my problem.
On next reboot, GRUB won't load: A blinking white cursor on black background
appears on the top left corner on the screen. It keeps blinking forever, no
change. I can only boot using superGRUBdisk. update-grub reports no errors.
Running grub-install says:

[Google Translate]:
/ usr / sbin / grub-bios-setup: Warning: Your embedding area is unusually
small. core.img would not fit ..
/ usr / sbin / grub-bios-setup: warning: embedding is not possible. GRUB can be
installed in this configuration only using blocklists. However, blocklists are
UNRELIABLE and their use is not recommended ..
/ usr / sbin / grub-bios-setup: error: will not proceed with blocklists.

[Bug 1073653] Re: GRUB won't load

2012-10-31 Thread Kalsan
The problem might have been caused by my first NTFS partition that must have
been corrupted. While trying to resize it, GPARTED failed. I deleted that
partition and created 2 new NTFS partitions instead. The first one is 100MB,
the second one becomes the old, formerly corrupted partition.
grub-install /dev/sda works fine now :-)

[Bug 1024895] Re: Weird error message

2012-07-23 Thread Kalsan
I don't have that machine anymore. It happened on many different Ubuntu
machines though, most of them with a fresh setup, others with an
original 11.10 setup (upgraded to 12.04 as soon as it came out).
Whenever I get the message again, I will run that command.

[Bug 880240] Re: system doesn't turn off if sudo halt is given

2012-06-05 Thread Kalsan
Had to change all my scripts to sudo poweroff. This is kinda embarrassing.
What's the use of a halt-command that doesn't actually turn off the machine?
Who needs a computer that's ready for poweroff but still running?
I believe that the halt-command made more sence before than it does now. I
recommend changing it back.

[Bug 998013] [NEW] Intelligent Edges stopped working

2012-05-11 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I've set Compiz via CCSM so that it would show desktop when I place the mouse
in the bottom left corner and that it scales the windows when I place it in the
right bottom corner. Also, I use Enhanced Zoom Desktop (Ctrl+wheel).
A few days ago, the edges stopped working, zoom is still working all right. I
have no proprietary drivers on the system, and none are available. The edges
are still configured in CCSM, but the settings have no effect.

[Bug 950129] Re: sudo halt won't cause halt

2012-04-24 Thread Kalsan
Weird, this happens on ANY computer I try, both Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04, no
matter if it's a Laptop computer, a tower (Lenovo ThinkCenter) or an iMac
(different ages).
Just fire up a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), sudo halt and you'll see.
How come there's nobody confirming this bug? Is there a duplicate? Why is this
page dead?

[Bug 985776] [NEW] While logging in, ugly-looking tiling of lightgdm-background

2012-04-19 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I have two screens, left 1280x1024 and right 1280x800. When I log in
throught lightgdm, between the login-screen and my desktop is shown, the
background of lightgdm is shown tiled (see attached screenshot). It
happens every time after login, right after having activated multi-
screen and right before the desktop is loaded. This is quite ugly. Maybe
you feel like changing that :-)

[Bug 969297] [NEW] Two screens: Invisible window buttons on other screen affect windows

2012-03-30 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I have two screens. There's a window on the right screen, maximized. When I
click on the left screen on the gray surface where there's the red X if the
focus is on a window on the left screen (that button is not visible right now,
as the focus is on a window on the right screen), that window is closed. Same
thing with toggle-maximize and minimize buttons. When I click the gray area, it
behaves as if it was a button.
Expected behaviour: Nothing should happen, as there are no buttons visible.

[Bug 956145] [NEW] Unity crashes on right click

2012-03-15 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

When I right-click an element, Unity crashes (that's a new behaviour that
appeared yesterday I believe). Please see the attached video.
Video: I have two screens. I selected an area to record that masks my personal
data, but everything you need to know is in there. First, I right-click a file
on my desktop. Unity crashes. Now, I can right-click the file again, this time
the menu appears. As you can see, I chose to have icons in the menu. I select
to open the file with gedit. It's a script to restart unity. I open the file
again, this time I chose run. Unity restarts.
This can be repeated. The first time after reboot, Uniy restarts automatically,
no message appears. The second time and any other time, the behaviour as in the
film happens.

[Bug 950129] Re: sudo halt won't cause halt

2012-03-14 Thread Kalsan
I'm sorry I'm having technical problems.
I went to the last link you gave me and downloaded
linux-headers-3.3.0-030300rc7_3.3.0-030300rc7.201203101735_all.deb
update, upgrade and then I installed the deb via Software-Center. Reboot. Sudo
halt, same problem.
Then I tried to regenerate GRUB, as I might have booted the wrong kernel:
$ sudo update-grub
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-18-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-18-generic

Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-16-generic
Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin

There's no 3.3... what did I do wrong?

[Bug 950129] [NEW] sudo halt won't cause halt

2012-03-08 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

When typing sudo halt into a terminal, ubuntu shuts down completely, but won't
turn off my hp compaq 6730s laptop. The hard disk makes a clicking sound (that
means it's turned off), but power remains on, displaying a frozen ubuntu logo.
I upgraded from 11.10 via update-manager.

[Bug 950137] [NEW] Left bottom screen edge should show desktop

2012-03-08 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I've set up compiz so the left bottom screen edge shows the desktop (under
general options in CC-settings-manager) and the bottom right corner shows all
windows as small previews.
When I start up my computer, the bottom right corner works fine. However,
nothing happens if I move the mouse into the bottom left corner. When compiz
crashes and reloads, or when I reload it manually using compiz fusion icon,
both corners work fine. However, after the next reboot, left corner remains
broken.

[Bug 936326] [NEW] Dragging a window from one screen to another: Window loses reference to mouse

2012-02-19 Thread Kalsan
Public bug reported:

I have two screens, the left one has resolution of 1280x1024, the right one
1280x800. I've set them up so that they're on a line on their bottom and the
left screen is higher than the right one. Between them there's a height
difference on the top edge, and the mouse stops there. When I move it down and
to the right, it keeps running straight down until it reaches the height of the
right screen, than it enters the right screen.
The problem: When I drag a window from the left screen to the right one, the
mouse stops correctly on the edge that marks the difference between the
screens, however, its coordinates relative to the window title bar I'm dragging
get somehow messed up. So when I enter the right screen, the window is as far
away from the mouse as I dragged it against the border merking the height
difference. Please see the attached video, as this bug is really hard to
explain.
