[Bug 1522922] Re: Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver
In http://www.lorenzobettini.it/2015/12/flickering-for-intel-graphic- card-in-linux-4-2/ I described the steps to revert the two commits that seem to have introduced the flickering. This requires downloading the kernel sources, revert the two commits, compile the kernel and install the locally built packages. This bug is particularly annoying, and each time a new upgrade on the kernel is released the above procedure has to be performed again. Not to mention that this bug makes the system unusable (if the above procedure is not performed). I think that the "importance" should be brought back to "Critical" (assuming that "Critical" is higher than "High"). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522922 Title: Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1522922/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1522922] [NEW] Screen flickering in Intel i915 driver
Public bug reported: There's an upstream bug reported here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91393 that causes screen flickering when using the Intel i915 builtin driver (at resolutions lower than the maximal one). I think that it will be fixed in newer kernel versions, but for the time being, as reported here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91393#c25 (and as personally tested) reverting those two commits fixes the problem. [Bug 1514167] [NEW] Plasma screen flickering on lower resolutions after upgrade to Kubuntu 15.10
Public bug reported: On my laptop, Dell m3800, the default resolution 3200x1800 makes everything unreadable, so I need to keep the resolution lower, i.e., 1920x1080. After the upgrade to Kubuntu 15.10, if I turn the resolution to 1920x1080 (or any lower resolution than the default one), the screen starts to flickering often (with the default resolution 3200x1800 this does not happen). [Bug 346298] [NEW] Jaunty alpha6 installer can only install on the MBR of a device
Public bug reported: At the end of the installation process (Step 7 of 7) of Jaunty Alpha 6, when clicking on the Advanced button, the boot loader installation option does not leave much of a choice: either you install the boot loader on a device or you don't install it. I don't want to install the boot loader on the MBR since this would overwrite the current boot loader; in previous versions of ubuntu installations you were allowed to specify the full grub device specification, e.g., you could do (hd0,4) meaning to install the bootloader on the first sector of /dev/sda5... This possibility is crucial if you have many linux distribution installations and you use one single main grub installation on the MBR which then chainloads to other grub installations (on the first sectors of specific partitions). [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
ehm... I gave it for granted: my laptop's HDD is affected by this bug, in fact, in previous versions of kubuntu I was using the ugly fix. (I started with 7.04 and then upgraded the system up to 8.04.) Then today, I decided to install 8.04 from scratch and the bug is not there anymore (of course, I haven't reapplied the ugly fix, so the packages now seem to work fine). Laptop mode starts automatically on battery. On battery the cycle counts is more than 100 per hour, is this reasonable? [Bug 310150] Re: -o/--output commandline option is broken in 2.10, 2.11
Hi, I'm the developer of GNU Source-highlight. The command line option --output works ONLY when --input command line option is specified (which is not the case in the above command): it works if you specify --input midiscriptengine.cpp Indeed Source-highlight can handle also arguments without command option, as in the example above where midiscriptengine.cpp is NOT the argument of ANY command line option; this way source-highlight can also handle more than one input file, and also, by relying on the underlying shell, regular expressions, e.g., source-highlight --out-format=html *.cpp *.h *.c when operating in this mode the --output command line option is ignored (since this works only for one input file), and the output file is created automatically by appending the corresponding output format file extension, e.g., .html in my example, and .txt in your example. Actually in previous versions (since 2.4) if it worked as you said, it was not consistent, so that was actually a bug ;-) I hope this clarifies the problem. If you have suggestions on how to further document this behavior, please let me know. Probably source-highlight should issue and error when --input is not specified, but this would not be consistent with the fact that the input file can be specified also with stdin redirection. I've done some tests on my new Dell Latitude D630 and after about 4.30 I get about 425, thus I assume I suffer from this problem, right? With the ugly fix (actually trying 'hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda') the problem seems to get solved (no more clicks). The hdd temperature raises to 41 C which still seems reasonable right?
