[Bug 2065751] [NEW] Mate-panel crashes (easy to reproduce)
Public bug reported: There are many reports out there about mate panel crashes. Ubuntu Version used: Mantic People taking care about this package should make a decision and use the latest mate-panel sourcecode in order to not duplicate developer efforts to fix bugs. Mate-panel is a highly unstable package it shows up numerous valgrind issues and crashes easily when eg. using FreeCAD and switching to fullscreen / windowed mode using ALT-F11 I would strongly recommend to stop distributing the old version of mate desktop environment and set up a system to use the latest git versions until basic stability is given (and just restarting mate-panel when it crashes is not an attractive option). Releasing faulty software in LTS/stable releases does not make any sense; if unstable and if the user wants it use the latest git sources for it (again to avoid developers doing duplicate work on debugging issues) Mate HUD is able to lock up the entire desktop (it did it here, multiple times). With kernel 2.6.32-23-generic x86_64 on Ubuntu 10.04, using proprietary
USB-hardware hooked up to the USB bus (with software compiled for
32-bit), I can directly observe how isochronous transfers retrieved via
ioctl(.. USBDEVFS_REAPURB ..) are too short, i.e. the kernel does not
write the end of the data packet to the supplied buffer. Booting on the
2.6.31 kernel still present from before I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10, the
same software runs flawlessly.
As a workaround I'll use the older kernel for now (also I could compile
for 64-bit, actually...).
yes you're right, since we distribute 64 and 32bit drivers it doesn't
really affect us.
before applying any change you can submit some patches to us and we
can test them if needed.
Things should definitely not go upstream untested anymore as it used
to happen in the past with various kernel releases. (isochronous is
bugged with 2.6.26/27/28 (memory leak) and 32/33 (copying wrong memory
area). Luckily our hardware supports switching from ISO to BULK in
order to work around those issues - but bulk transfers have a bad
performance in userspace

If you quit and try to again see DVB channel it exits saying end of file. To get it working, you have to start/close kaffein. But that is for posting on mplayer forum. Hi, I have some good news we're replacing the alsa driver with a vendor specific audio driver, this will allow to compile the driver again the normal way! no, you need to include the em28xx source into the linux-ubuntu-module
package and recompile it from there then it will work. Otherwise it
compiles the driver against the wrong sources and due the wrong
interface definition between those sources it will crash.

this is not needed and mixing up v4l-dvb-kernel or v4l-dvb-experimental with the precompiled drivers will definitelly break! please do not use those packages in any tutorials because they will be updated frequently and the version number will be raised. I will set up a site on mcentral.de which keeps track of the latest packages also for other distributions. The tvtime version on that site works with fglrx using software rendering, best is still to move the output to openGL which I'll probalby do this week. Hi, I have an experimental version of tvtime on mcentral.de it needs some cleanup (and it's also unstable when resizing the video). I expect to do so during the next time. I will provide a package when I'm done with it. I will release a Ubuntu Package for that driver within the next few days. The issue is solved and caused because the module isn't built against the ubuntu linux module sources (which comes in an extra package). The installation instruction on mcentral.de won't solve that problem unless someone recompiles the whole kernel (which is not the goal of that project).
