[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
FWIW, apparently this bug is also occurring in Firefox. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1034362 -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13
Oh, I understand. I guess I'm just a little disappointed by the fact that there hasn't been any official response to this. Supposedly 30 different people and the so-called Ubuntu Security Team have been notified of this bug. And not one single one of these people has said boo about it. Now I myself was having problems related to SSL breaking on me. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seamonkey/+bug/290857 But apparently the security of my bank accounts, credit card accounts, etc., isn't terribly important to anybody since my bug didn't rate an official response either. Frankly, I've pretty much lost faith in this whole bug process. That is why I have personally decided to throw in my lot with Ubuntuzilla. Just check out this thread I posted over on the Ubuntuzilla forum. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1013724 I had problems with my Ubuntuzilla-installed Seamonkey 1.1.14, and within a matter of days, Ubuntuzilla's developer, nanotube, responded with an updated package that completely fixed the problem I was having with my Seamonkey plugins. And he wasn't even responding to a security issue, he was responding to a plugin issue. But I waited for two months for my SSL-related bug to get fixed, and I couldn't even get an official response. That's why I was saying to people, in the post above, that they shouldn't leave their internet security in other peoples hands, because, well cue the crickets around here -- Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13
Well, after dealing with my own bug in Seamonkey 1.1.12 for two months https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seamonkey/+bug/290857 And starting to realize that there is a serious security problem with the Seamonkey package in Intrepid's repositories, I upgraded to Seamonkey 1.1.14 about a week ago using Ubuntuzilla http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/ And I just want to say: if you're feeling less-than-secure on the internet using Seamonkey 1.1.12 out of Intrepid's repositories, don't leave your internet security in the hands of others. Go ahead and upgrade using either Ubuntuzilla like I did or by compiling it manually yourself. Because Jaunty is going to be released before this bug gets fixed. -- Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290794] Re: unable to launch add on downloads. nothing happens when button is pressed
Did you go to Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Software Installation and checkmark Allow web sites to install extensions and updates? You can fine tune this option by allowing only certain sites to install plugins. And which plugins are you trying to install (from which websites)? Not sure if you know this or not, but most Firefox plugins don't work in Seamonkey. They haven't worked in any release, really, since the big Mozilla Suite/Firefox split, like 7 years ago. Supposedly these work: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/recommended Of course, you can install flashplugin-nonfree out of the repositories. And I haven't tried it on Ubuntu, yet, but I did have luck installing DownThemAll in Seamonkey, back when I was running Windows. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/201 -- unable to launch add on downloads. nothing happens when button is pressed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
Okay, I got tired of dealing with this bug and waiting for a fix, so about a week ago, I upgraded to Seamonkey 1.1.14 using Ubuntuzilla. http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/ And I haven't received a single error message since then, and that's using the same profiles I created using Seamonkey 1.1.12. So my guess is, there's something not-right about the Seamonkey 1.1.12 package in Intrepid's repositories. -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
Hey Markor, Yeah, unfortunately I've been sorta stuck with 1.1.12, since I haven't found a definitive howto for upgrading Seamonkey. I just stumbled on the website for Ubuntuzilla, which seems like it promises an easy upgrade. http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/ But I'm still a little unclear as to whether I should uninstall 1.1.12 before doing the upgrade or not. They recommend *not* uninstalling Firefox, so...? As far as which webpages are causing the problems, I haven't found any sort of pattern to it. I might go to My Ebay six times in a row with no problems, and then the seventh time I go there, I get the error message. Sometimes I get the error at the very first SSL page I visit, sometimes I get it after an hour of surfing. And on rare occasions I can go through a whole session without any error messages at all. -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13
Anybody know where we stand on this? I've been dealing with a really annoying bug in 1.1.12 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seamonkey/+bug/290857 that I am hoping will be fixed with version 1.1.13. -- Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
Okay, just another update. I went for about a week without getting any error messages on this particular computer, following the rebuild I mentioned earlier. But then I started getting them again, about a week ago. And I have also been experiencing these same error messages on another computer that I built a few days ago with 8.10 and Seamonkey 1.1.12. So I'm thinking, not only is this repeatable, but it's pretty much unavoidable. That's two builds on one computer and one build on another computer, all doing the exact same thing. -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
I was just wondering if we should bump up the importance of this bug, since it appears that the Secure Sockets Layer is involved. Up until now, I have periodically been denied access to webpages requiring SSL. But what happens if this glitch occurs after somebody has already gained access to a webpage with SSL, like a bank account, for instance? If SSL breaks at that point, there might be a real security issue there. ** Tags added: security ssl -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
Just an update. This problem I was having a few weeks back was more than likely related to the fact that my hard drive was crapping out on me. Last week, my BIOS started giving me a warning to back up my data ASAP, as my primary hard drive was starting to throw up red flags that it was operating outside of specifications. (See S.M.A.R.T. -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.) Anywho, since installing a new hard drive and reinstalling Intrepid, I haven't had anymore problems with these error messages. So unless somebody else is having a similar problem, we can probably scratch this bug. -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290857] [NEW] Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: seamonkey I'm running Seamonkey 1.1.12, installed from Intrepid's repositories. And I have been experiencing some really unusual behavior. In this first screenshot Seamonkey is essentially telling me that it is having troubles with my profile directory. http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=90102 It's weird, because I can be sailing along with no troubles, and then I get this message, doing nothing particularly out of the ordinary. So, the first time I got this message, I did: -- sudo chown -R username:username /home/username/.mozilla sudo chmod -R 755 /home/username/.mozilla -- Hoping that would clear up any read/write permission problems, but I am still getting this same message from time to time, again, doing nothing particularly out of the ordinary. This second screen shot is telling me that it cannot connect to a particular webpage because I supposedly have SSL disabled. The trouble is, I *don't* have SSL disabled. http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=90103 In fact, 9 times out of 10, I have no trouble whatsoever perusing SSL webpages. It's just that 1 time in 10 when Seamonkey thinks I have SSL disabled. It's really quirky how most of the time, I have no trouble. But then, just out of the blue, Seamonkey starts acting up. So I've been closing Seamonkey and restarting it, and that fixes things for awhile, right up until the next time I have trouble. ** Affects: seamonkey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198313] Re: Integrate extra buttons in mouse properties
If this has been marked wontfix, does that mean that we need to file a new bug report? Because btnx will not work on Intrepid. http://www.ollisalonen.com/btnx/ So if people want to configure extra buttons on a mouse, they are going to have to create an fdi file and place it in their /etc/hal/fdi/policy directory. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config#Input%20Configuration%20with%20HAL Unfortunately, creating an fdi file -- with precious little documentation on how to do such a thing -- is pretty much going to rule out most of us human beings, for whom Ubuntu was supposedly created. -- Integrate extra buttons in mouse properties https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 284908] Re: VLC 0.9.4 has lots of bugs. Can we use 0.9.2 instead?
Well, I guess it should be okay, just so long as things kinda halfway work the way that people would expect them to work. I personally have been waiting for Intrepid's official release to install it, so I will wait and see how everything works then. But the possibility of things being patched later definitely sounds promising. I guess I was worried that everything was going to be carved in stone at that point, but I forgot about there being updates as they're needed. [Bug 284908] [NEW] VLC 0.9.4 has lots of bugs. Can we use 0.9.2 instead?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc Not sure if I'm in the right place, but here goes... I'm running VLC 0.9.4 on Hardy, installed from: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/ubuntu hardy main And I would like request that version 0.9.2 be listed in the repositories for Intrepid, rather than 0.9.4, because there are several new, rather annoying, bugs in VLC 0.9.4 that weren't a problem with 0.9.2. See some of these threads in Videolan's forums for more details: Video not in interface http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13t=51124 disable xvideo output window http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13t=51032 Apparently VLC has made some major changes in their video window system in the last month or so that have introduced a lot of new bugs -- missing fullscreen video controls and so on. And a lot of people are asking how they can revert back to 0.9.2. Please, can we make the less buggy 0.9.2 available to folks who will install VLC from the Intrepid repos? ** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- VLC 0.9.4 has lots of bugs. [Bug 284908] Re: VLC 0.9.4 has lots of bugs. Can we use 0.9.2 instead?
the two issues you referenced in the forum seem to be the same issue that has been fixed with the lastest upload: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2136 aka LP: #282582 please correct me if I'm wrong. --- Yes, you are correct, both of those threads primarily focus on the x-window output bug, but there are other bugs, as well. Like: I and others in the above threads seem to have lost our controls for fullscreen video. VLC 0.9.2 had a nice GUI when you were in fullscreen video mode that faded into-and-out-of view when you moved your mouse. That doesn't seem to be working in 0.9.4. And I'm not sure what you mean when you say the latest upload. Are you talking about the nightly builds for VLC? And would the nightly changes be incorporated in a second version of VLC 0.9.4? Or would they come out in 0.9.5? And will a repaired or newer version be ready when the repositories for Intrepid are finalized? -- VLC 0.9.4 has lots of bugs.
