[Bug 1354924] Re: Networkmanager does not autoconnect to wireless network
From reply #13: According to SteveRiley, on the Kubuntu Forum, if you enable All users may connect to this network in the settings, then the connection does autoconnect. I tried this once or twice with my wifi networks and it seems to work. https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?66702-NetworkManagement- widget-not-connecting-to-wifi-automaticallyp=361413 This does not work for me. PC: HP Pavilion g7-1070us 64-bit i3 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 05) I was running Kubuntu 14.04.1 w/KDE 4.14.2 perfectly on this laptop. I was fully dist-upgraded and did a release upgrade from the console: sudo do-release-upgrade -d When it finished and I rebooted, network-manager did not auto-start. Before the KDM login screen, these two messages were presented: Waiting for network configuration... then after awhile, Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration... At the end of the 60 seconds, KDM login screen presented and I logged in. I had no network connections. Running sudo service network-manager start from the console started both my ethernet and wireless connections. Editing both connections and marking All users may connect to this network in the settings DOES NOT servive a logout/reboot. I really would like to know why, and how to remedy this. The only thing I can point to is the message that a 'fatal error occured' right at the end of the release-upgrade process: Total disk space freed by localepurge: 0 KiB Error in function: A fatal error occurred Please report this as a bug and include the files /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log and /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log in your report. [Bug 1354924] Re: Networkmanager does not autoconnect to wireless network
SOLVED!!! The hint to the solution was the content of networking.log: run-parts: failed to exec /etc/network/if-up.d/static-routes: Exec format error run-parts: /etc/network/if-up.d/static-routes exited with return code 1 Failed to bring up lo. run-parts: failed to exec /etc/network/if-up.d/static-routes: Exec format error run-parts: /etc/network/if-up.d/static-routes exited with return code 1 ifup: post-up script failed. So I compared the /etc/network/if-up.d directories on my working 32-bit and 64-bit laptops. The difference was a single executable file on the 64-bit affected laptop but not on the unaffected 32-bit laptop: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 351 Oct 17 16:25 static-routes Which contains: ip route add unreachable 10.0.0.0/8 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 172.16.0.0/12 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 192.168.0.0/16 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 169.254.0.0/16 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 192.0.2.0/24 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 198.51.100.0/24 metric 999 ip route add unreachable 203.0.113.0/24 metric 999 I removed the executable bit (sudo chmod -x) and logged out and rebooted. My network was auto-started as it should!! I don't know why the release-upgrade put it there (I assume it did), but it was the culprit in this fiasco. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1354924 Title: Networkmanager does not autoconnect to wireless network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1354924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1301570] Re: OpenGL crashes KWin with 64-bit 3.13.0-21 kernel
The 'solution' offered in Bug #1299499 worked, permitting my use of OpenGL 2.0 or 1.2 again, although 3.0 still crashes KWin. I don't know if the precurser cause of my reported bug was mesa and libxkbcommon0 incompatibility with kernel's above 3.13.0-19, but adding the PPA and updating / dist-upgrading solved my problem on my 64-bit install. ** Description changed: + A solution offered that works -- see comment #47 below + On my 64-bit installation, setting OpenGL 1.2, 2.0, or 3.1 when using kernel 3.13.0-21 causes KWin to crash. apport information ** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301570/+attachment/4067019/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Description changed: On my 64-bit installation, setting OpenGL 1.2, 2.0, or 3.1 when using kernel 3.13.0-21 causes KWin to crash. This 'bug' also affects me. Kubuntu 13.10 64-bit, kernel 3.11.0-13-generic, KDE 4.11.2. The problem, as I see it, is that the files: org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate don't exist in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ and in fact, don't exist anywhere on my laptop, so how can /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla work without them? I'd think not, but... I've followed the instructions in #13 and I have the Suspend to Disk in Leave options. Nope. I get Grub and KDM login. Once logged in to KDM, my desktop is empty -- it doesn't repopulate as I had it when I hibernated. What is interesting though, is that launching my browser (Chromium) it reports that it wasn't closed properly and do I want to restore the session. I ignore the message and click on the Home icon and I'm still logged into the forum (my Home page is a forum). Also, returning here via History, I'm also still logged in. No changes have been made to the e-mail setup other than the Ubuntu upgrade. -- Evolution hangs with Formatting Message after several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 215450] Re: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast not working u(Hardy 8.04)
I was going to raise this as a separate bug but might be related here. I installed Ubuntu server 9.04 on a PIII with an old 3com network card. Everything worked with the card recognised and using eth0 but I discovered it was only connecting at 10 meg. I discovered this is a known issue and found it too much hassle to change the settings on the card. Easier to replace it with a new card. The new card was from Maplin in the UK and has the Realtek chipset. I put the card in the same PCI slot as the 3com and booted up to find the network not working. Without labouring this, for some reason the card is allocated eth1 during bootup. There is a line saying: udev: renamed eth0 to eth1 I renamed eth0 to eth1 in /etc/network/interfaces, restarted networking with /etc/inet.d/networking restart, and the network now works normally at 100 meg. I assume the system has some memory of the old card and for that reason is allocating eth1 but is not updating the interfaces file to match. -- Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast not working u(Hardy 8.04) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215450 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 138691] Re: system hangs at shutdown
Philipp Kern wrote on 2008-06-25: 3. ACPI trouble with power off. I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147 (dual-core T2060, 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM) and due to the (know) buggy BIOS, the boot time kernel option acpi=off must be included or I don't have working sound. [Bug 83471] Re: [pata-pcmcia] failed to set xfermode
IT WORKS! Okay, as a subscriber to this bug, I received the notice about migrating the bug to the new linux package. So, I downloaded and burned the LiveCD of Intrepid Ibex Alpha 3 (Kubuntu) today. I'm running it from the LiveCD at the moment. I pulled out my Kingston 5GB pcmcia HD and plugged it in to the pcmcia slot, and viola, there it is under New Device Notifier! Click on the device icon and it opens with Dolphin. This is the first time since Edgy Eft that I've been able to access this device! I'm so happy What ever was done, please ensure that it is retained throughout the development process, and particularly, in the final release. I'm attaching the dmseg file. ** Attachment added: dmesg.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16717017/dmesg.txt -- [pata-pcmcia] failed to set xfermode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/83471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 254347] Re: multiple kate sessions running after login
Reviewing https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage gave me some insight into looking for evidence of what's happening. I looked at my .xsessions-errors file, filtered through grep on kate and found interesting things! I moved the file and logged out and rebooted. This ensured a new .xsession-errors file would be created. When I logged in through KDM and the desktop loaded, kate launched seven instances - up by one since I logged this bug. I killed them all and then made a copy of the new .xsessions-errors file, which is attached (xsession- errros200808022151). It also contains interesting entries, like these: kate(6226): createDoc kate(6227): createDoc kate(6229): createDoc kate(6225): createDoc kate(6228): createDoc kate(6230): createDoc kate(6226) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6226) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6226 ' kate(6227) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6227) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6227 ' kate(6225) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6225) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6225 ' kate(6229) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6229) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6229 ' kate(6228) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6228) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6228 ' kate(6230) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/pa ul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6230) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6230 ' kate(6226) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6227) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6225) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6229) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6228) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6230) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.kateses sion kate(6229) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6228) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6227) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6230) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6225) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6226) KateMainWindow::KateMainWindow: * *** 0x81d1440 kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6228) KateMainWindow::KateMainWindow: * *** 0x8108398 kate(6229) KateMainWindow::KateMainWindow: * *** 0x81d11c8 kate(6229) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6228) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false I think/hope that the contents of this file helps point to where the problem is originating. ** Attachment added: xsession-error file http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16502923/xsession-errors200808022151 -- multiple kate sessions running after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That is interesting! Before you posted your comment, I had noticed that the .krunnerrc file appeared to contain corruption: headerState=\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x0b\\\x02\x00\x00\x00\x05\x00\x00\x00\t\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x06\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x04\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x03\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x02\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x02^\x00\x00\x00\x0b\x01\x01\x00\x01\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\t\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x03\x00\x00\x00d\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x03\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x001\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x008\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00Q\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00 (my quotes) I moved it to .krunnerrc_BORKED and shutdown/restarted my system. This time only one instance of kate appeared. I looked, and no new .krunnerrc had been created. So, I believe that this corrupted (?) file was contributing to the problem. With it 'out of the picture' things are 'better' in that only one instance of kate. Hmmm. I looked at the .xsession-errors, filtered through grep on krunner and kate, and this is what I got: kdeinit4: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/krunner' from launcher. kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/bin/krunner kate(6226): createDoc kate(6226) KateSessionManager::KateSessionManager: LOCAL SESSION DIR: /home/paul/.kde4/share/apps/kate/sessions kate(6226) KateApp::initKate: Setting KATE_PID: ' 6226 ' kate(6226) KateSession::init: Warning, session file not found: default.katesession kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6226) KateMainWindow::KateMainWindow: 0x816cc90 kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: false kate(6226) KateViewDocumentProxyModel::updateBackgrounds: true The warning about the missing default.katesession file is interesting. [Bug 254347] [NEW] multiple kate sessions running after login
Public bug reported: Hardy Heron running KDE 4.1.00 Starting today - August 1, 2008 - logging in from KDM results in multiple open sessions of Kate, all with an empty document. It started with four such sessions. It's now up to six. The only 'fix' is to remove the hidden .kde4 folder in the users home directory, and, you have to do so from outside of a running X/KDM session. Removing the folder from within the current session results in a 'new' .kde4 folder being created instantly. I had to reboot into one of my other Kubuntu installations and delete the .kde4 folder in HH KDE 4.1.00. Performing a shutdown are reboot back into HH KDE 4.1.00 resulted in no running sessions of Kate. Yet later this same day, the behavior returned. The only thing that was done 'on the system' was to run Adept Manager and later, apt-get. I'm not sure this behavior is a KDM issue, but ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- multiple kate sessions running after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 189381] [NEW] Kmixer cannot be found
Public bug reported: Running Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP The following packages were identified by Adept Notifier for upgrade last night (2008-02-04): linux-headers-2.6.22-14 linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic linux-libc-dev After these packages were downloaded and installed, Kmix was still working (working sound, system tray icon was normal). Performed a normal shutdown of the system. After restarting my PC, sound is no longer working. The KMix icon shows in the system tray with a red X. Placing the mouse cursor on the icon shows KMixer cannot be found. sudo find -name kmix* (from the root directory) shows that all the kmix* files are present. Adept Manager reports that kmix is installed. From a console however, echo $PATH shows: /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games According to a fellow Kubuntu Forums member, who also upgraded these files but has not restarted his system, his echo $PATH shows: /home/rog/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games (note that his user home directory is included at the beginning of the path). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kmixer cannot be found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189381 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
