[Bug 322209] Re: Kmail /akonadi not working - kmail: symbol lookup error:

2009-01-28 Thread Richard Birnie
As noted in a previous comment this is caused by an incomplete upgrade.
This is normal for a development release where the archive is a state of
rapid change. There isn't really anyway of blocking the release until
all packages are ready without freezing the repository which is
something we only do for alpha/beta milestones.

If you run the development release please wait until you have a complete
upgrade before reporting bugs. Unless of course you are getting a bug
that prevents you completing the upgrade. If you have a fully upgraded
4.2 and you still find bugs then those are the ones we want to hear
about.

Thanks

[Bug 320915] Re: Remove aRts from the archive - rebuild all dependencies

2009-01-25 Thread Richard Birnie
libsdl1.2 is the source package that generates libsdl1.2debian-arts.
With the removal of arts from the archive libsdl1.2debian-arts is no
longer required. The debdiff to follow modifies the source package to
build without arts support. Changes noted below:

libsdl1.2 (1.2.13-4ubuntu2) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Rebuild without aRts support. (LP: #320915)
  * Multiple changes in debian/control
- dropped build-depends on libarts1-dev, libartsc0-dev. These
packages will disappear as part of the arts removal.
- Removed Package: libsdl1.2debian-arts section entirely
- dropped depends on libsdl1.2debian-arts (= ${binary:Version}) for
  libsdl1.2-debian
- dropped depends on libartsc0-dev for libsdl1.2-dev
  * Multiple changes in debian/rules
- set --enable-arts-shared=no and --enable-arts=no in confflags
- removed --disable-audio-arts from udeb_confflags
- dropped arts from FLAVOURS=

[Bug 320915] [NEW] Remove aRts from the archive - rebuild all dependencies

2009-01-24 Thread Richard Birnie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: arts

We are proposing to remove all arts associated packages from the archive

[Bug 318002] Re: kmail crashes frequently with segv when moving messages from IMAP inbox to other IMAP folders

2009-01-18 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this.

It's curious that you don't get a crash dump. There are packages
available for KDE 4.1.4 and 4.2rc1 now. Instructions to install are
linked from the front page at http://www.kubuntu.org/

Is this crash reproducible with either of those versions. If so could
you try obtaining a backtrace using the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace. You will need to install the package
kdepim-dbg first in order to get the debugging symbols for kmail.

[Bug 317922] Re: knotes list indentation does not work

2009-01-18 Thread Richard Birnie
From the behaviour you describe I assume you are using knotes from
within kontact as opposed to standalone?

Has knotes ever behaved in the way you wanted it to in previous versions?
If it did then this is a regression. Otherwise this is either a wishlist for a
new feature or a usability bug. Either way we will need to forward this
upstream to KDE and see if they are willing to fix/add that behaviour but first
we need to get the information in order.

[Bug 315005] Re: kontact crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-01-18 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this. Has this only occurred once or is it
reproducible?

Can we just clarify the steps that lead to the crash:
1) Try to receive mail. By clicking 'check mail'?
2) Kmail shows a pop-up asking for username and password information
3) Closed Kontact. Did you actually enter the password or just click cancel and
then close the application?
4) After you closed kontact a kwallet pop-up appears asking for your password.
Did you enter your password?
5) Start Kontact and observe a crash.

Is this correct?
There are now packages available for KDE4.1.4 and 4.2rc1. Do you see this issue
with either of those versions? If the crash is occurring repeatedly could you
install the package kdepim-dbg so that we can get a more informative backtrace.

2009-01-18 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this.

I think the package you need for the missing debugging symbols is
libqt4-dbg. Could you give us the url for the original feed that
triggers this. If I can reproduce it then we can confirm the bug

2009-01-18 Thread Richard Birnie
Bendemann,

Is this still an issue for you with KDE4.1.4 or KDE4.2rc1? There are
packages for both available in Intrepid. This works reliably for me with
KDE4.2rc1. I'm pretty sure I'm using the default settings

The only places I can think of that have settings which could affect this are:
1. Settings Configure Notifications , in kmail
2. Settings Configure Kmail Appearance System Tray tab

Have you changed any of the default settings in either of those places?

Thanks for reporting this. Could you give us some more information to

tried to reproduce this on my system which also has Kubuntu 8.10 and
4.2-beta2 and it doesn't crash for me.

If you are able to reproduce the crash, is it possible to isolate the

[Bug 310127] Re: one event shows up 2 consecutive days

2008-12-29 Thread Richard Birnie
I can confirm this issue in KDE4.2 beta2. Your diagnosis is correct that
it is related to time zone. I happen to be in the UK, which is on UTC at
this time of year.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Set time zone to Europe/London (effectively UTC)
2) Create an event that runs from 2300 on day 1 to 0100 on day 2
3) The event is displayed correctly. In fact it displays as two parts labelled
1/2 and 2/2 at the correct times, which seems sensible to me.
4) Change timezone to America/Los Angeles. Settings Configure KOrganiser
Time and Date
5) When presented with the dialog 'Keep Absolute Times' choose keep times
6) The result is that the same event now appears as two duplicate events on
consecutive days.

[Bug 274170] Re: Crash on deleting blank task in ktimetracker

2008-12-22 Thread Richard Birnie
Thorsten,

Thanks for spending some time on this. The current state of play is
that Kubuntu 8.10 uses the 4.1 branch by default. I discussed this with
some of the other devs on IRC and I'm informed that there should be a
4.1.4 release in January. For this particular bug we are prepared to
wait until then to catch the fix.

We make the 4.2 snapshots (and eventually final) available in a separate
package archive for those who want them. I've just confirmed that the
bug is fixed in our 4.2beta2 packages. So that is an option if this bug
is particularly critical for anyone. If we can get sufficient testing
done we may backport 4.2.0 to Kubuntu 8.10

Kubuntu Jaunty, which will become Kubuntu 9.04 in April, currently has
4.2beta2 and will migrate to 4.2.0 in due course. For our purposes that
is sufficient to consider this bug closed.

Thanks again for your support,
Rich

[Bug 305744] Re: Kmail should have an option to not show a broken connection dialog

2008-12-07 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this. It isn't a bug as such but a request for a
new feature, or at least a change in behaviour. That's really something
that needs to be addressed upstream by the KDEPIM developers. It may be
that it behaves that way for a good reason and that's a decision for KDE
not Kubuntu.

The best thing to do would be file this as a wish on bugs.kde.org and
link it here so we can track the outcome.

[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-03 Thread Richard Birnie
I agree that there is an issue here that could be better handled by
Kontact. However, it's not really something we can fix at a distribution
level. Basically you're looking for a feature to be added to Kontact.
That's something that needs to be added upstream within KDE itself. As
such all I can usefully suggest is that we close this report (since
there's nothing we can do about it) and ask that you file this as a wish
at bugs.kde.org

thanks for following up.

[Bug 112392] Re: Akregator article counts are often wrong

2008-12-01 Thread Richard Birnie
Rocco,

Thanks for the feedback. It might help if you could leave a comment on
the upstream bug saying that you can reproduce it in KDE4 and basically
just reiterate what you said here. I think development on akregator has
pretty much stopped for kde3 for anything less than a crash. If they
know the bug is still present in KDE4 it might get some attention.

[Bug 302360] Re: kjots: autosave does not always work

2008-12-01 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this bug. I tried to reproduce it and was unable to do so.
Could you be a bit more specific about your usecase.
What I did was:
Create a page.
Make some changes
Quit KJots
Open KJots
Make more changes
Close Kjots

I repeated this 4-5 times and each time my changes were saved. You said
that saving only fails sometimes. Roughly how often do you think this
is? If you go to Settings Configure KJots what autosave settings do
you have? My system shows the 'Save periodically' checkbox ticked and
the interval set to 5 minutes.

[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-01 Thread Richard Birnie
I can confirm that this is the case. Inserting a space at the start of
the server name does cause it to fail. I'm not quite sure what the bug
is here. Ultimately kmail fails to send because an invalid server
address was entered. That's not a bug that's user error. Do you have a
use case where you need to be able to insert a space or are you
suggesting that kmail should display a warning to say that this is not a
valid server name? To put it another way. What behaviour would you
expect to see in this situation and how does this differ from the
current observed behaviour?

[Bug 300285] Re: Fails to create new distribution list

2008-12-01 Thread Richard Birnie
Thanks for reporting this. I tried to reproduce this and was unable to
do so, same package versions as you have. To save going through a bunch
of questions you've probably already answered could you post the bug
number for the KDE3.5.10 bug and let us know if the symptoms in KDE4
differ in any way from those already reported. The fact that this bug
occurs in a system where the old files have been copied over does make
me wonder if there's something buried in there somewhere. So only one
question. If you move those files to another location and let the
application recreate the default files do you still observe this bug.

If you have time try this one file at at time so that we can try to pin
it down to a particular file.

thanks,
Rich

I agree that there doesn't seem to be an entry for that feature anywhere
