[Bug 2063883] Re: Resuming from suspend, desktop crashes

2024-04-27 Thread Shane Ross
After some research appears this bug/crash is related to display-port +
Dell usb-c docking station.

Closing this as not related to Ubuntu directly.

[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise

2022-05-13 Thread Shane O'Sullivan
The bug also affects grub-efi-amd64-signed and grub-efi-amd64-bin

So if you follow the above workarounds you still get effected by the bug
eventually when one of these packages update.

** Also affects: grub-efi-amd64-signed (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1969795] [NEW] vacation doesn't add recommended rfc3834 headers

2022-04-21 Thread Shane Williams
Public bug reported:

RFC 3834 recommends the use of appropriate Precedence and Auto-submitted
headers for programs that automatically respond to email. While the
debian/ubuntu version of vacation looks for both these headers (at least
as of 3.3.1), it generates neither of them, leading to unnecessary
processing for other mail systems as well as spurious responses to the
vacation auto message. This feature was asked for in the same bug
report that led to the check for the Auto-submitted header, but appears
to have been overlooked (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496916).

This bug effects all supported versions of Ubuntu (including Jammy
Jellyfish).

The provided patch was made against vacation-3.3.3

If it would be more appropriate to report this bug to debian, please let
me know.

[Bug 1914880] [NEW] xenial package for redshift is out of date (1.10 < 1.12)

2021-02-06 Thread Shane DeMeulenaere
Public bug reported:

This isn't a bug with the application itself, just that the package in
the 16.04 (xenial) repositories is out of date.

The current release is 1.12, however the version in the xenial repos is
1.10.

What needs to happen to get the package updated? Can I help?

[Bug 1718761] Re: It's not possible to use OverlayFS (mount -t overlay) to stack directories on a ZFS volume

2020-07-04 Thread Shane
I'm using Focal with ZFS on root. I installed the docker snap package
today and could not get the service to start. Logs show:

2020-07-04T17:15:20Z docker.dockerd[8105]:

2020-07-04T17:15:21Z systemd[1]: snap.docker.dockerd.service: Main process

I think this is the same issue except with docker instead of LXC.

[Bug 1878578] Re: Some menu icons are missing

2020-05-22 Thread Shane Synan
I've found a workaround until the proper fix gets backported. This is
not supported and may break things. Proceed at your own risk (there is
a way to undo this).

Install the latest `mypaint-data` from the current Ubuntu 20.10
(`groovy`) builds.

1.  Visit https://packages.ubuntu.com/groovy/all/mypaint-data/download
2. Download the .deb file from any mirror
3. Install via package manager (QApt, dpkg, Ubuntu Software, etc)
$ sudo dpkg -i mypaint-data_2.0.*_all.deb
$ # Example:
$ # sudo dpkg -i mypaint-data_2.0.0+git20200502-1_all.deb

If you want to undo the changes, you can downgrade `mypaint-data`:
$ sudo apt install mypaint-data=2.0.0-2

The exact version may change! Check `apt-cache show mypaint-data | grep
'Version'`.

I've put a bit more information about this workaround on the upstream MyPaint
issue as well:

Just upgraded from Bionic to Focal 20.04. My Toshiba Laptop has no sound. I've
done my research to get my sound back. Nothing works.

Now I've done a test with loading UbuntuDDE 20.04 onto a flash drive to
see what would happen with the sound. The Sound is working. Below is the

[Bug 1855627] Re: projectM 2.1.0+dfsg-4build2 crashes with SIGABRT on first preset change

2020-04-15 Thread Shane Synan
projectM 2.1.0 was just removed from Debian due to being Qt 4 (
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=953118 ).. but
upstream projectM release 3.1.3 is Qt 5 ( https://github.com/projectM-
visualizer/projectm/releases ).

Time to file a new bug on the Debian bug tracker for reinclusion into
the archives?

looks like the original code in the debian postinst wraps what results
in line 19 in sub case statement.

case @PACKAGE@ in
  grub-efi-ia32)  target=i386-efi ;;
  grub-efi-amd64) target=x86_64-efi ;;
  grub-efi-ia64)  target=ia64-efi ;;
  grub-efi-arm)   target=arm-efi ;;
  grub-efi-arm64) target=arm64-efi ;;
esac

since the package of for amd64 only then the case block is removed, but
the clause terminator has accidentally been left behind and needs to be
removed

[Bug 1871725] [NEW] python3-pykdl: PyKDL crashes Python 3 interpretter (SIGABRT) if any API accepting a str is used

2020-04-08 Thread Shane Loretz
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainer,

The package python3-pykdl crashes the Python 3 interpreter if any API
accepting a str is used. I've tested this using the latest Focal packages.

Minimal reproducible example:

$ python3 -c "import PyKDL; PyKDL.Tree('foobar')"
python3:
/build/orocos-kdl-mPkyII/orocos-kdl-1.4.0/python_orocos_kdl/PyKDL/std_string.sip:52:
 int convertTo_std_string(PyObject*, void**, int*, PyObject*): Assertion
`PyUnicode_Check(s)' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
$ echo $?
134

There is a patch fixing this issue in this upstream Debian Buster bug:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=956254

Would you be willing to apply that patch in Ubuntu Focal?

Cheers,
Shane

[Bug 1842177] Re: TypeError: '>' not supported between instances of 'Version' and 'Version'

2020-02-17 Thread Shane Jaroch
I only get this when running pip3 list --oudated inside a superuser
shell.

Interestingly, it doesn't have any issues when ran with user privileges.

It would be nice to know which package is causing the issue, maybe I can
uninstall or bypass that. I would like to know which ones are out of
date, if they are system packages or have been installed locally by a
sudoer.

Thanks

[Bug 1809407] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted wallpaper after resuming from suspend or hibernation

2019-12-01 Thread Shane Synan
Having recently tried upgrading an 18.04 system to 19.10, I can confirm
~rigues 's behavior - complete screen corruption after resuming from
suspend when using the Nouveau driver (NVidia driver only partly
corrupts).

However, this (corrupted screen, no workaround) might be different
enough from a corrupted wallpaper (which can be dismissed) that it
warrants a separate/new bug report?

[Bug 1809407] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted wallpaper after resuming from suspend or hibernation

2019-10-09 Thread Shane Synan
I've had this issue in the past on Ubuntu 18.04 with the NVidia 340.x
driver series. Two days ago with driver 340.107 and the latest released
system updates, the lockscreen wallpaper corrupted for about 2 seconds
on resume from suspend, then the wallpaper reloaded, appearing fine. In
the past, the lockscreen wallpaper would remain corrupted for at least a
minute (presumably indefinitely, but I didn't wait to find out).

This issue might be somehow fixed, but I'll keep a look out to see if it
happens again and stays corrupted for longer than a minute.

[Bug 1820770] Re: when printing from the internet at Wikipedia the 8 page document only printed pages 2, 3, 4 and did not print 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

2019-03-22 Thread Shane Horton
Thanks for your reply. I had used chrome browser to print the article and the
preview did not show the break in but showed the document in entirety. I just
used foxfire and the document printed in entirety but with two more pages due
to larger font, which is fine really, so I guess I will start using Firefox
more for the the things that chrome won't do as it is becoming clearer that
Firefox seems more versatile at this time than chrome (which I've been using
since streaming Netflix was made possible years ago). Anyhow TMI,
Thx!

Dell Inspiron 15 7559
Kernel 4.15.0-43

Problem persists even after Rekby's workaround. Rebooting has no affect,
so my issue has nothing to do with suspending/sleeping my pc. Also tried
acpi_osi="" in grub. This only disables my touchpad.

[Bug 1793502] [NEW] "Wired Unmanaged" with v1.10.6

2018-09-20 Thread Shane Jaroch
Public bug reported:

I am seeing no network icon in the top bar or status area. When I click
the power area for more info, it shows an x symbol with 'Wired
unmanaged'. It doesn't think we're connected. This has been going on
for a week or two. All of my desktops are affected now.

I have tried rebooting and putting managed=true in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

It does not affect internet connectivity but it does affect vnc sharing,
ssh, samba servers, and the likes. I also noticed when plugging in a
mobile phone, "Broadband unmanaged" came up in a similar vein

At this point I am convinced it is some disagreement between packages
recently pushed by Canonical and/or other maintainers, and am marking it
as something to be looked into ASAP

[Bug 1781039] Re: GCE cloudinit and ubuntu keys from metadata to ubuntu authorized_keys

2018-08-06 Thread Shane Peters
I've tested a "first boot" scenario using a customised image with this patched
cloud-init and it works as expected (you can see both cloudinit and ubuntu keys
above the 'Added by google' comment).

$ cat googlekeys
carbon:ssh-rsa BZCRI2M shaner@carbon
ubuntu:ssh-rsa B65Otq/ shaner@ubuntu
cloudinit:ssh-rsa ..6s3oSv shaner@cloudinit

# USING CUSTOM IMAGE WITH UPGRADED CLOUD-INIT
#
$ gcloud compute instances create trusty1 --image custom-cloud-init
--image-project firm-lacing-209716 --metadata-from-file=ssh-keys=googlekeys
--metadata=block-project-ssh-keys=True
$ ssh ubuntu@x.x.x.x cat .ssh/authorized_keys
ssh-rsa B65Otq/ shaner@ubuntu
ssh-rsa ..6s3oSv shaner@cloudinit
# Added by Google
ssh-rsa B65Otq/ shaner@ubuntu

# USING EXISTING IMAGE

$ gcloud compute instances create trust2 --image-family ubuntu-1404-lts
--image-project ubuntu-os-cloud --metadata-from-file=ssh-keys=googlekeys
--metadata=block-project-ssh-keys=True

$ ssh ubuntu@${IP} cat .ssh/authorized_keys
# Added by Google
ssh-rsa B.z65Otq/ shaner@ubuntu

$ scp cloud-init_0.7.5-0ubuntu1.23_all.deb ubuntu@${IP}:~/
$ ssh ubuntu@${IP} sudo dpkg -i cloud-init_0.7.5-0ubuntu1.23_all.deb
$ ssh ubuntu@${IP} sudo rm -rf /var/lib/cloud/instances
$ ssh ubuntu@${IP} sudo reboot
$ ssh ubuntu@${IP} cat .ssh/authorized_keys
ssh-rsa .6s3oSv shaner@cloudinit
# Added by Google
ssh-rsa B65Otq/ shaner@ubuntu

You'll notice in this second example, the 'ubuntu' key from my googlekeys file
isn't added on top like you would expect if the image had an upgraded
cloud-init. This is because the code is duplicate checking and won't add a key
if it already exists.

[Bug 1777504] Re: Ubiquity crashed during the install of Ubuntu 18.04.

2018-06-18 Thread Shane Parsons
I can confirm that running `sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-
ubuntu` finally worked for me.

The only difference between this time and last time is that I ran it
when the install screen was already launched (the initial screen, not
the final one with the slideshow), which lead to a broken link page
where the slideshow used to be. I also moved my cursor every 5 minutes
to prevent the screen from sleeping.

Not sure if it'll work for anybody else, but it worked for me!

same thing (greyed out install updates during installation ) happened to me

Important as I cannot connect now to wifi ( sees transmitters but will not

[Bug 1773859] Re: upgrades to 18.04 fail

2018-06-10 Thread Shane Synan
Apologies for the double-comment.

Following the guide from here...
https://askubuntu.com/questions/838491/systemd-shim-error-after-upgrading-from-16-04-to-16-10/838673#838673

I was able to continue upgrading with these commands:

[let upgrader bail out and run dpkg configure]
sudo mv /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service
/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.bak
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt autoremove

Then, to optionally finish cleaning up, check what packages are no longer
supported using the command from...
https://askubuntu.com/questions/691051/how-to-get-the-list-of-the-unsupported-packages-mentioned-during-the-os-upgrade

awk -F\' '/demoted/ {gsub(/ /,"\n",$2); print $2}' /var/log/dist-
upgrade/main.log

The system in question appears to work fine now, just the usual cleanup
of changes for any major OS upgrade.

[Bug 1768232] Re: Stuck at ubuntu logo while booting after installing Ubuntu 18.04 (Resolution 1024x768 after nomodeset, i915 driver issue)

2018-05-18 Thread Shane Semanek
I have a Dell Optiplex 330 workstation with Intel 82G33/G31 Express
graphics. It ran Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.10, and Ubuntu 18.04 beta2
without any issues. When Ubuntu 18.04 was released I did a clean install
and it would boot to the Ubuntu logo screen and stop. I tried several
kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline but the issue
was not resolved.

To resolve the issue I had to disable Wayland in GDM3.

sudo vi /etc/gdm3/custom.conf

Change #WaylandEnable=false to WaylandEnable=false and reboot

[Bug 1771903] [NEW] Deadlock using ASIO in multiple threads

2018-05-17 Thread Shane Loretz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

The version of ASIO shipped with Bionic (1.10.8-1) has a race condition that
can cause a program using ASIO in multiple threads to hang forever.
The attached test case reproduces it in a single program, but it also can
happen if two libraries are independently using ASIO and linked by the same
executable.

The justification for fixing the issue in Bionic is the patch is
obviously safe and is not being applied to a critical infrastructure
package.

The attached patch was taken from a commit to the upstream repository.
It appears to change the order that some state gets cleaned up.

[Test Case]

Save the attached files asio_stall_example.cpp and 0001-Don-t-free-the-
reactor-s-per-descriptor-state-until-.patch

# Download the source code and extract it
wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+sourcefiles/asio/1:1.10.8-1/asio_1.10.8.orig.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf asio_1.10.8.orig.tar.bz2

# Build using the extracted headers
g++ -o example --std=c++11 -I asio-1.10.8/include/ -pthread
asio_stall_example.cpp

# Loop until the program hangs (happens within 1 to 20 iterations)
while ./example ; do date ; done

# Apply the attached patch
cd asio-1.10.8
patch -p 2
--input=../0001-Don-t-free-the-reactor-s-per-descriptor-state-until-.patch

# Rebuild with patch and run example again.
# The loop runs for much longer, only hanging momentarily if all ports are
blocked by a socket in TIME_WAIT
g++ -o example --std=c++11 -I asio-1.10.8/include/ -pthread
asio_stall_example.cpp
while ./example ; do date ; done

[Regression Potential]

ASIO is shipped as a header only library, so the potential for a regression is
limited to binaries built after this patch is applied.
The fix only adds a non-virtual member function to internal 'reactor' classes,
so I don't think ABI breakage of downstream libraries is a concern.

Reactor classes are internal and chosen by typedef to the type `reactor`
depending on preprocessor definitions.
If there exists a custom reactor class downstream then it would be possible to
get a compile time error about missing the method cleanup_descriptor_data().
Someone implementing a custom reactor class would need to add a typedef of
their class to 'reactor' and prevent ASIO from creating it's own typedef.
It could be done by defining the include guard ASIO_DETAIL_REACTOR_FWD_HPP
prior to including asio.

[Other Info]

The attached file asio_stall_example.cpp was taken from this issue on github
and minimized
https://github.com/chriskohlhoff/asio/issues/180

The attached patch was made by cloning upstream and running
git format-patch -1 669e6b8

The original reporter on github says the issue only occurs if compiler
optimizations are turned on; however, I see it both with and without
optimizations.

Currently working on verification. I'm running into an issue where the
(mitaka) nova-api isn't returning the 'locked' field which this patch
relies on.

This error occurred when attempting to launch Rocket League on Steam. I

or gaming.  Very weird.

[Bug 1710917] [NEW] ability to disable apache mod_status

2017-08-15 Thread Shane Peters
Public bug reported:

The openstack-dashboard /server-status page is accessible by default.
While useful for some, the existence of the this page may be considered
a vulnerability.

The workaround for this would be to execute 'a2dismod status && service
restart apache2' on the openstack-dashboard unit.

Suggest making this a charm option, enabled by default.

I have the same issue and the trigger seemed to be moving from an AMD to

running at the time. I am also using the Ubuntu automatic Nvidia driver

[Bug 994063] Re: do-release-upgrade can't be continued after drop to shell

2017-02-03 Thread Shane DeMeulenaere
Potential recovery:

For what it's worth. I just ran into this issue and recovered using
reptyr. I had to build it from source from
https://github.com/nelhage/reptyr though, as apt was locked up.

* run 'pstree -p' to find the PID to reconnect to. The tree looked
something like:

  - trusty - ??? - bash - emacs

You want to PID of the leaf node here (in this case emacs)

* Then run 'reptyr PID'. This will land you back in your editor with
potentially a bunged up terminal state (which is why you're in this mess
to begin with). Exit your editor safely (in my case, emacs wouldn't
accept C- commands, but handled ESC-x save-buffers-kill-terminal).

* Clean up whatever you were cleaning up (being careful of course)

* Run 'exit', as do-release-upgrade instructed

In my case, I was still slightly screwed because I messed up the pty of
the 'trusty' process above while I was trying to figure this out. My apt
and dpgk state was okay though, so I could just restart the upgrade. But
I think this will allow you to resume your current release upgrade
unscathed. I'd be interested to hear reports if anyone tries this.

Hopefully this helps someone!

05:50:42 UTC - mysqld got signal 6 ;
This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already crashed,
something is definitely wrong and this may fail.
Please help us make Percona XtraDB Cluster better by reporting any
bugs at  https://bugs.launchpad.net/percona-xtradb-cluster

read_buffer_size=131072
max_used_connections=423

It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 6603710 K
 bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

[Bug 1440825] Re: dnd_is_screensaver_inhibited no longer works

2016-09-02 Thread Shane Synan
Following up with my previous comment, this affects playing music or
videos in Totem, which is included in the default Ubuntu install. Even
if the player window is minimized, no notifications will display.
Someone unsuspecting might be led to think notifications are broken.

As before, if I should file a new bug, or any of the other options
mentioned in the last comment, I'd be happy to do so!

[Bug 1611552] [NEW] package linux-image-4.4.0-34-generic 4.4.0-34.53 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2016-08-09 Thread Shane Synan
Public bug reported:

This error occurred when installing the most recent round of updates.

Running 'sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-
image-4.4.0-34-generic_4.4.0-34.53_amd64.deb' then 'sudo apt-get install
-f' seemed to fix the problem.

Perhaps the installation of the kernel was somehow interrupted? During
installation I opened the System76 driver, but nothing else happened, no
system crash, etc.

(As this was generated by Apport, I'm assuming the necessary debug
information is attached)

[Bug 1440825] Re: dnd_is_screensaver_inhibited no longer works

2016-07-12 Thread Shane Synan
Echoing @nobuto's remarks, this is a rather unpleasant surprise moving
from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 16.04. I use Caffeine to keep the system
awake during important background tasks and when I can see the screen
while not actually at the keyboard. Unfortunately, now notifications
don't work in such cases.

As this is technically working according to design, should I file a bug
report with the Ayatana project, NotifyOSD, is one expected to change
org.gnome.desktop.session.idle-timeout in a script, or..?

Pardon the noise if I should have contacted elsewhere first.

[Bug 1421184] Re: Merge latest version (2.48.3-1) with Debian

2016-05-01 Thread Shane Synan
Tim Edwards, there's another way to work-around this that might be
easier. I should've added a comment on it.

For the command-line client ONLY: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/unison
For both graphical and command-line client:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/unison-gtk
Make sure to download the right architecture from below, most likely 'amd64'
for 64-bit, or 'i386' for 32-bit.  You shouldn't need any of the dependencies;
Ubuntu 14.04 has new-enough versions.

If you have both packages installed (no need), you'll have to upgrade
both or remove the old 'unison' package as 'unison-gtk' seems to offer
the same program.

I've had success directly downloading the .deb packages for Unison
2.48.3-1 and installing them on my desktop and laptop running Ubuntu
14.04 with latest updates. Nothing seems to break, just a slight
sensible re-arrangement of the GUI buttons. This isn't the best idea,
but it's a viable work-around for now. A proper backport to trusty-
updates would be better.

[Bug 1421184] Re: Merge latest version (2.48.3-1) with Debian

2016-03-20 Thread Shane Synan
Would someone with the appropriate permissions mark this as affecting
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, too? The original bug report remarked on trying to
use newer Unison clients with older Ubuntu servers, and in my case, I
have the reverse issue - old clients, new server.

For ease of transition as users upgrade their desktops and servers at
different times, Unison in 14.04 could be upgraded to 2.48.3-1 with the
old package available as 'unison-2.40', akin to the current setup for
'unison2.32.52': http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/unison2.32.52

Or, for least disruption to 14.04-only systems where server might not be
managed by those with the clients, the opposite would also work, albeit
perhaps less ideal - packaging 2.48.3-1 as 'unison2.48.3', leaving
'unison' untouched.

[Bug 1421184] Re: Merge latest version (2.48.3-1) with Debian

2016-02-25 Thread Shane Synan
Merging/backporting Unison 2.48 to Ubuntu 16.04/14.04 might be required
to avoid the issue where newer builds of Unison 2.40 segfault due to a
change in the OCaml library (version 4.01.0 -> 4.02.3).

See Ubuntu bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unison/+bug/1543374
And Debian bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=807019
(thanks to ~linuxien_ref for linking to this on the Ubuntu bug report)

I have 14.04 clients and a 16.04 server and I will be happy to do any
needed testing.

2016-02-25 Thread Shane Synan
In the meantime, I managed to work around the issue with multiple trials
of apt-get that resulted in something like the following:

sudo apt-get remove -f python-pip-whl python3-pip python-chardet-whl
python-html5lib-whl python-virtualenv python3-virtualenv virtualenv
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get install python3-pip python3-virtualenv virtualenv # (Optionally,
python-virtualenv if you need that too)

At your own risk; I cannot guarantee this workaround will succeed for
you.

For systems already in a broken state, will any workaround be needed
once a fixed package is uploaded, or will it be sufficient to 'apt-get

[Bug 1491555] Re: Unity unnecessarily goes to low graphics mode

2016-02-15 Thread Shane Synan
This will cause issues for upgraded Ubuntu installs on Radeon hardware
with the upcoming release of 14.04.4 LTS. The version string now
includes LLVM, just like in 15.10. On my system, "Gallium 0.4 on AMD
BONAIRE" became "Gallium 0.4 on AMD BONAIRE (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.6.0)".

Seconding Sinclair Yeh's request, should this be backported here, or
should a new bug be filed?

[Bug 1543374] Re: [regression] Unison segfault when transferring data, "input_value: bad bigarray kind"

2016-02-15 Thread Shane Synan
There's a bug report for getting Unison 2.48.3-1 into Ubuntu 16.04 and
backporting it to Ubuntu 14.04:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unison/+bug/1421184

According to the bug report linked by linuxien_ref above, Debian seems
to be taking this approach and hopefully Ubuntu can as well, either
before Import Freeze (Feb. 18th) or as a Stable Release Update.
Otherwise, Unison may need reverted for the current version in Ubuntu
16.04 is mostly unusable.

[Bug 1543374] [NEW] [regression] Unison segfault when transferring data, "input_value: bad bigarray kind"

2016-02-08 Thread Shane Synan
Public bug reported:

After installing the latest round of updates to Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial,
Unison segfaults when synchronizing some files across SSH.

Steps
1. Install unison on a local machine running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and a remote
device running Ubuntu 16.04 and unison_2.40.102-2ubuntu2.
2. Synchronize certain types of files. In my case, the Rhythmbox database and
1 GB+ .tar.gz archives both caused issues.

What happens
Unison aborts on the server side while the client displays: Uncaught exception
Failure("input_value: bad bigarray kind").

What should happen
Files are synchronized as usual.

Reverting to the previous version unison_2.40.102-2ubuntu1 from Wily and
below works around the issue. As Unison was rebuilt without changes (
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/u/unison/unison_2.40.102-2ubuntu2/changelog
), I don't know if a third-party library may have changed instead.

I attempted to capture the report using "apport-bug unison"; if I'm
missing information let me know! I can almost always reproduce this
issue.

[Bug 1267059] Re: "Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies" does not work

2015-12-06 Thread Shane Synan
@Steve Brorens: It's actually the little "Tags" section under the bug
description and right before the comments that needs edited. Remove
'verification-needed' and add 'verification-done', and that should be
it!

If you can, you may want to change "Confirmed" back to "Fix Committed" -
that's for confirming the bug exists, not for confirming that a proposed
package fixed it. "Fix Committed" means the fix is developed, but
hasn't yet passed testing.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure about how to mark this as also affecting
Precise.

[Bug 1073488] Re: window management - if a window is always on top, it will always get focus after switching between workspaces

2015-11-06 Thread Shane Synan
I often have a calculator or a simple note-pad window always on top for
quick reference while I'm typing into a document below it. Switching
workspaces means I have to give focus back to the document every time.
I agree with ~amirmasoud that this is a bug, not a feature.

If there's any way I may help with debugging (such as running a test
build), let me know!
