[Bug 2059401] [NEW] No sound from Jabra 510 speaker after upgrade to 23.10
Public bug reported: My Jabra 510 speaker used to work in older releases of Ubuntu but, since upgrade to 23.10 and switch to pipewire, only the microphone works. If I select the speaker output in settings or directly in Zoom I hear nothing. I found an upstream issue here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/1984. Some users report that pipewire master fixes the issue. I tried creating a file /etc/pipewire/pipewire.conf and adding the configuration from that ticket: context.properties = { default.clock.quantum = 2048 default.clock.min-quantum = 1024 default.clock.max-quantum = 4096 } The Jabra speaker then started working in Zoom but the Ubuntu settings app showed no devices at all. I'm guessing that the quantum setting worked around the bug but creating the file overrode some other config that Ubuntu is relying on. It's not clear how to configure pipewire on ubuntu, upstream seems to use a different file layout. [Bug 1912851] [NEW] Dell 5530: Trackpad, wifi and thunderbolt screen stop working after upgrade from kernel v5.4 to v5.8
Public bug reported: After installing the v5.8 kernel, my laptop becomes unusable with multiple issues: * Trackpad stops working * External screen connected over USB-C stops working * Wifi stops working I collected the apport report to file and then rebooted in v5.4 to send it. On v5.4 this laptop is pretty stable with all three of the above working reliably. Interestingly, the USB hub itself in the monitor works fine because I can use the keyboard through the monitor. It's only the graphics that stops working. Screen stays off when I plug it in. I also noticed that the laptop screen runs in a different resolution rather than the one I selected while v5.4 was installed. [Bug 1899766] Re: Xorg freeze after selecting large cursor
Found the source of the v4l warnings; I was experimenting with v4lloopback to use a camera as webcam. Disabled that and it's gone away. Unfortunately, /var/crash is empty and I didn't see any report from the right time in the errors webpage. After applying the change to add "Crash" to the crashdb.conf, I still don't see a crash dump in /var/crash after repro. However, I did find that the problem only repros in NVIDIA PRIME mode, not Intel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899766 Title: Xorg freeze after selecting large cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-435/+bug/1899766/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1896229] [NEW] systemd-networkd thinks it loses its lease every renewal
Public bug reported: With a server running 20.04 on AWS, I noticed connectivity glitches once per half hour. Eventually managed to correlate it with DHCP renewals. Each time systemd-networkd does a renewal, it logs that the lease was lost and goes through a cycle of removing and re-adding the IP and routes (Even though it's the same IP and routes). This causes disruption, especially to SNATted flows; if a packet arrives for an SNATted flow during hte windows where the IP is removed then (I think) the host sends a RST and the flow gets torn down. (In any case, such flows get lost during the glitch.) I'd expect a DHCP renewal to be completely transparent; the IP shouldn't flap, it should just be updated to have a longer lifetime. I managed to capture a PCAP of the DHCP renewals along with a debug log from systemd-networkd. [Bug 1895434] [NEW] Display corruption after suspend with recent kernel update
Public bug reported: For the last few days, after suspending and resuming, I get display corruption in Google Chrome. Parts of the UI are replaces with black boxes. Resizing the window causes it to redraw but if I switch back to the original size then it goes back to black. I noticed it on 5.4.0-47 and backed down to 5.4.0-45 but still see the same. Looks like 5.4.0-45 was only released a few days before 5.4.0-47 so maybe I didn't reboot in that time. Those are the only upgrades I can see in the right timeframe. [Bug 1882510] [NEW] IRQ/51-SYNA2393 using lots of CPU after suspend/resume
Public bug reported: After a suspend/resume cycle (using "deep" suspend mode), the process IRQ/51-SYNA2393 uses considerable CPU 10+%. Using the trackpad for a few seconds seems to fix the issue. I don't normally use the trackpad while docked so it's a bit annoying to have to remember to use it just to get this problem to go away. Looks like others have hit the same issue; I found this on askubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1138642/ubuntu-18-04-drains-battery- very-fast-after-wake-up-from-a-deep-sleep ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: linux-generic 5.4.0.33.38 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-33.37-generic 5.4.34 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-33-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: shaun 2997 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: shaun 2997 F pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Jun 8 11:30:07 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-12-11 (544 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 1834583] Re: [eoan][regression] GNOME Shell hangs when closing a Java dialog; hung in (varying functions under) meta_stack_get_default_focus_window() from meta_window_x11_focus()
I was hitting this on disco-proposed. I found that it was resolved by setting an APT priority of -1 for disco-proposed and doing a dist- upgrade (i.e. downgrading all packages to disco-updates). [Bug 1822089] Re: Frequent (silent) USB disconnects with Dell TB16 dock
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I see something similar (but different) to bug 1766076 on a Dell 5530: - Using kernel 5.0.4 from UKUU (because current Ubuntu kernel suffers from other bugs that make this dock unusable) - BIOS 1.6.0 - TB16 dock with a single monitor on the display port, providing power, using native enumeration setting in the BIOS - Microsoft comfort curve keyboard, webcam, headset connected to dock USB ports - Wired ethernet via the dock. Keyboard stops responding frequently. There is no output in dmesg when this happens. If I later unplug the keyboard I see a disconnection message in dmesg and I can reconnect it to the same port. Sometimes it works for a day after this, other times it works for <60s. - Other devices disconnect too but the pattern is different. [Bug 1822089] [NEW] Frequent (silent) USB disconnects with Dell TB16 dock
Public bug reported: I see something similar (but different) to bug 1766076 on a Dell 5530: - Using kernel 5.0.4 from UKUU (because current Ubuntu kernel suffers from other bugs that make this dock unusable) - BIOS 1.6.0 - TB16 dock with a single monitor on the display port, providing power, using native enumeration setting in the BIOS - Microsoft comfort curve keyboard, webcam, headset connected to dock USB ports - Wired ethernet via the dock. Keyboard stops responding frequently. There is no output in dmesg when this happens. If I later unplug the keyboard I see a disconnection message in dmesg and I can reconnect it to the same port. Sometimes it works for a day after this, other times it works for <60s. Other devices disconnect too but the pattern is different. [Bug 1738534] [NEW] Processor turbo dsiabled/throttled after suspend
Public bug reported: After suspending/resuming my laptop on battery power, I noticed choppy video playback. I've narrowed it down to the CPU being locked to lower frequencies after suspend/resume (only on battery). Plugging the laptop back in does not restore the normal performance, nor does suspend/resume after plugging it back in. [Bug 1662355] [NEW] Signon shows up as Safari
Public bug reported: Signon UI popped up and asked me to log into Google. [Bug 1661764] [NEW] Videos stutter with thermald enabled
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Yakkety, I noticed youtube ad vimeo videos slow down and stutter after a few minutes but it didn't seem to be due to buffering. dmesg logs hinted that some sort of throttling was happening. I tried stopping thermald and that seems to help. sensors reports the CPU temperature is a bit higher with thermald disabled (91-2C vs 87C) but I'd rather have my laptop run a little hot than be unusable for watching videos. Since it's a mobile part, the rated max temperature for my CPU is 105C so it seems like thermald is taking drastic throttling action while there's still quite a bit of headroom. Obviously, it'd be great if I could watch youtube at 65C instead! CPU is an i7-3517U, Samsung NP900X4C-A03US laptop. I've tried with and without "intel_pstate" enabled with similar results. Fan is working as expected: seems to spin up high when it's hot and shut off when it's cool. I tried cleaning out the case but it made no difference and the fan doesn't seem dirty (it's small and ducted though so I can't really clean it). [Bug 1643165] [NEW] Wifi drops out regularly after upgrade to 16.04
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to 16.04, my wifi has seemed a lot more flaky, it'll drop out for 20s every few minutes then come back. network manager still thinks that it is connected, but websites will fail to load/time out. Reconnecting to the AP (by clicking on it in network-manager) seems to re-establish the connection. I typically sit 6ft from the access point so the signal is strong and much stronger than any nearby APs. [Bug 1643163] [NEW] Wifi doesn't work after resume, fixed by forcing scan
Public bug reported: Often after resuming from suspend, my laptop (Samsung series 9) is disconnected from the wifi and it doesn't seem to reconnect. Network manager seems confused; it displays that it is connected, but it shows the wrong access point (i.e. one of my neighbour's access points that I don't even have the password for). Running iwlist scan manually fixes the problem almost immediately and network-manager starts showing the correct state (connecting, then connected to the right AP). Very similar to bug 1332904 but apport recommended filing diags on a fresh bug report. [Bug 1332904] Re: Network manager stopped scanning for wifi networks
I have the same symptom (wifi ends up disconnected after resume, cured by running a scan manually) but I'm seeing this after upgrading to 16.04. One oddity is that network-manager often shows that it thinks it is connected to an AP after resume but it's not the correct one. It seems to think it is connected to my neighbour's AP, for example. I wondered if the APs had swapped channels due to autodetection or something. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1332904 Title: Network manager stopped scanning for wifi networks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1332904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1484919] [NEW] Kernel oops associated with BIRD/netlink
Public bug reported: Scale testing our product, which uses the BIRD BGP daemon, on Google's GCE cloud, we see frequent (40% of hosts) Kernel Oopses and reboots on kernel 3.19.0-25-generic #26~14.04.1-Ubuntu with BIRD running. This is the standard GCE-provided Ubuntu image. If we replace the image with a stock Ubuntu one (kernel 3.13.0-61-generic #100-Ubuntu), installed from ISO, then we do not see the issue. If we stop BIRD then we no longer see the issue. I suspect that this is an issue with the way BIRD is using netlink, triggering a kernel bug. It seems to happen more at scale, when BIRD is doing more with netlink and we have thousands of routes in place. [Bug 1451085] Re: Ivy Bridge laptop overheats with intel_pstate enabled
I (still) don't have Windows and the BIOS update is (still) Windows only. If I had it, I'd do it. I don't even have a restore disk because Samsung don't provide one. I'd have to buy a copy of Windows from them ($30 admin fee IIRC) to go through the BIOS update process. [Bug 1451085] [NEW] Ivy Bridge laptop overheats with intel_pstate enabled
Public bug reported: Noticed my laptop getting hot over the last month or so. Investigating, I ran 'cpupower frequency-info' and found that all my cores were running at 2.8GHz pretty-much constantly despite being mostly idle. My laptop was using the intel_pstate module for CPU frequency governing. I tried switching between powersave and performance governors but they both showed the same issue. Adding intel_pstate=disabled to my kernel command line switched over to using the acpi-cpufreq module and the ondemand governor. With that enabled, my CPU is back down to 800MHz-1.1GHz at idle, as expected and it immediately stopped overheating. [Bug 1399077] [NEW] File copy dialog disappears, won't re-show, can't alt-tab to nautilus
Public bug reported: I'm copying a large amount of data from my digital camera (which mounts with gphoto2). With a copy in progress, I alt-tab away to google chrome and then alt-tab back to nautilus. The copy dialog is gone and the menu option on the nautilus icon to Show copy dialog does nothing. The copy progress is shown on the icon. In fact Alt-tabbing to nautilus seems to fail while it's in this mode entirely. The focus stays on chrome the whole time. The only way I can get to nautilus is to move chrome out of the way and manually click on the nautilus windows. [Bug 1037285] Re: /boot fills up after many kernel upgrades
Some thoughts on this bug: When /boot does run out of space, it causes the next install of a kernel package to fail, leaving the package in a broken state as far as apt is concerned. That makes it impossible to remove the old kernel packages using apt: apt won't remove packages until you successfully run apt-get -f install to fix broken packages but apt-get -f install won't run until you remove the old packages. That means that the only way to get things working again is to manually remove some old files from /boot, then run apt-get -f install and then apt-get remove to remove the old kernel packages. That's a real pain for a technical user like myself but it's impossible for a non-technical user. This bug might not be a security vulnerability in its own right but it can certainly compound other security vulnerabilities. Being stuck with an unpatched kernel even though you have a cron job that does a sudo apt-get upgrade every night could be a big problem. I suspect that more users will be affected by this bug but the lack of a clear error probably means that non-technical users just give up or ignore it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037285 Title: /boot fills up after many kernel upgrades To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1037285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1196073] [NEW] signon-ui keeps spawning facebook security warning page in background
Public bug reported: For the last few days, I've noticed a page suddenly appear in my browser on the facebook domain (happens every few hours). The page is on a simple white background with the following text: Success SECURITY WARNING: Please treat the URL above as you would your password and do not share it with anyone. The URL looks like this: https://www.facebook.com/connect/... Last time, it happened at the same time that signon-ui told me that I'd been logged out of google so I thought, maybe signon-ui is renewing its login on all my accounts and that's somehow triggering the facebook page. To verify that, I opened signon-ui and went to the facebook account. As soon as I did, it spawned a new copy of the blank page and it did that each time I tried to log in via signon-ui. I tried revoking access to ubuntu in my facebook settings in the hope that that would clear any bad state. After doing that, when I try to log in via signon-ui it spawns the facebook confirmation page in the browser instead of in signon-ui's in-window browser and when I click through to the end then I get the security warning page. [Bug 1176380] [NEW] Kernel BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffa03ff521
Public bug reported: Just after reboot with a new kernel, I saw a Kernel Oops/BUG scroll up the screen. light dm didn't load properly (I saw the mouse overlaid over the kernel Oops text instead of the user picker) and Ctrl-Alt-F1 made the mouse disappear but didn't give me a console so I had to do a hard reboot.
