If I am the only one in this situation, close the ticket. It might
still be more related to server than else. But with Outlook or
Thunderbird, the same server, never had this or any other issue.

Re: [Bug 1696618] Re: Certain emails are not loaded properly via IMAP+

2018-07-19 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hello,

I have to say it happens very rarely with newer versions, it's much more
stable on my computer. But on another slower computer, it tend to happen
more frequently. I have found a workaround, which is deleting all local
cache of evolution, forcing it to resync the messages.

I can give you a mail account on my server if it helps for testing it
out. Might be the server/client combination problem too.

Thank you,
Cheers,
Simone

[Bug 1705391] Re: PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets

2017-07-26 Thread Simone Lussardi
Guys, seems I have found the conditions in which it happens. I have
successfully managed to *not* make it happen.

If you set the radius server IP property to match the public address,
this crash *will* happen, no matter what MTU or other encryption things
are set. PPP on Android doesn't have this problem.

Let's assume your PPTP server is at public IP 1.2.3.4, and such server
has an inside LAN IP of 192.168.79.1, you have two options:

A) You can leave the server IP property empty, in which case ppp will
work just fine !

B) You can set to a value, in order to do some manual routing on client
side later on by using that server IP.

But, if you set such property to 1.2.3.4 (matching exactly the public IP
on which the interface connects to) it will create this race condition
after a while and start sending crazy packets, crashing the ppp module.
Could be due to a looping-back broadcast.

Even though it might not be important for everyone, it shouldn't happen
that a property set on server side can crash a module on the client.
There should be a check.

Cheers,
Simone

[Bug 1705391] [NEW] PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets

2017-07-20 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

Hey guys, I have a very weird issue here. PPP works fine for 1-5
minutes, then it hangs with CPU usage very high, and I noticed it start
uploading insane (but fake) bytes to the tunnel. To do a simple test, I
started watching a YouTube video, and when the problem started to
happen:

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
  inet addr:172.16.99.9 P-t-P:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1400 Metric:1
  RX packets:26586 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:5921622 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
  RX bytes:35077655 (35.0 MB) TX bytes:2885396935 (2.8 GB)

Then it crashed, and VPN turned itself off. I tried everything: MTU,
tunnel parameters etc. Please note I am a guy with 20+ years experience
in networking and I own an IT company. This is definitely a BUG of PPP.
It started happening since Ubuntu 16.04, before I never had this issue.

Simone

[Bug 965895] Re: After boot, NetworkManager indicator menu only shows four entries

2012-09-24 Thread Simone Lussardi
This bug is still there and very annoying for an LTS version. Sometimes
one is in the middle of a conf call and you just cannot disable/enable
the network to make the missing items appear...

On one side, I noted that the bug shows itself 100% of the times when
starting the computer with Wireless disabled (hardware switch), while on
some rare occasions, with Wireless enabled it does not show. Lenovo T400
here, with iwlwifi driver.

[Bug 995848] [NEW] Mouse hover Window decoration icons' hover effects incorrect

2012-05-07 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

Hi guys,

This bug was also present in a much more evident way in Ubuntu 11.10,
along with focus behavior not working properly with *any* theme.

Regardless of video driver, mouse-hover window decoration icons doesn't
have any effect. Then suddenly, and randomly, it starts to work on every
window after having enlarged one or opened a certain number of them.
Impossible to identify a pattern, but it happens with any theme being
used (currently using Adwaita, but happens also with the default one).

Cheers,
Simone

[Bug 995864] [NEW] Network indicator's menu doesn't work properly !

2012-05-07 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

Hello guys,

This bug is quite annoying, and seems stricly related to *nm-applet*.
Starting up the laptop with Wireless, brings a cut version of the
network menu, and it's impossible to connect to any VPN connection or
switch Wireless network. If starting up the laptop with Wireless
disabled, the menu is even further reduced to just 4 items (Enabled
Network / Wireless and Connection Info / Edit Connections). Some other
times some weird combination appears, like VPN entries completely gone,
but still, they are there if you edit them !

Switching Wireless on and off resolve the problem, and menu fully
appear. Even waiting for 1 hour after boot, it doesn't make the menu
appear correctly.

This problem happens at every boot.

Cheers,
Simone

2012-02-01 Thread Simone Lussardi
There is already a bug opened for *Browse* problem only:

Please I kindly ask everyone to click on This bug affects me over that
one, so that it can be confirmed and moved.

Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre: can you use that bug for the fix instead of
opening a new one ?

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2012-01-12 Thread Simone Lussardi
Ivan: is what I have been trying to say for ages. Sometimes it works on
larger windows, but mostly on small windows is broken as per your video.
I have resolved the problem by trashing compiz-decorator (which is just
a symlink to unity-window-decorator) and using Emerald instead. And from
my experience, it is not only happening with ATI video cards.

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-12-01 Thread Simone Lussardi
Should be easy to reproduce, and have nothing to do with the theme in
use (I use Adwaita for both windows and controls):

1) Start with nothing opened, best just after logon, Unity 3D.
2) Open Home folder from the Unity panel, unmaximized.
3) Mouse over the minimize/maximize/close icons, they will change color/aspect
as you mouse-hover them.
4) With only that window open, click now on the desktop anywhere to loose focus
and keep window in sight. Buttons appearance and title bar will change, to
visually inform that the window has lost focus (pick Nautilus because
apparently it has the greater chances to be displayed correctly !).
5) Minimize Home window.
6) Now, you open Calculator.
7) Mouse-hover the buttons again, they will *not* change aspect, altough they
will work.
8) Click on desktop anywhere to loose focus and keep window in sight. Buttons
and title bar will remain in focused state. Sometimes, it happens also that it
opens in unfocused state and always stays there (pick Calculator because is the
most likely to have this problem, dunno why, but also happens with any other
window, also terminal).
9) Restarting compiz-decorator has no effect at all.
10) With emerald this problem doesn't happen.

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-23 Thread Simone Lussardi
Thank you Omer for the feedback. My system is fully updated, even with
all proposed updates. I am not a newbie of Linux/Ubuntu, I have plenty
of programming experience as well. If you need any help in
debugging/verifying I can help, this issue is really small but much
annoying because it disturbs an otherwise very good experience.

The updates did solve one of the issues, the one related to the Scale
plugin in compiz that cut out the title bars if the windows was outside
view. But focus issue remain there, as per message #19 above.

I have installed Emerald on Unity from sources, have also modified a bit
to better understand how events are handled, and issue of focus is not
there in Emerald, so it should not be related to how events are sent by
the underlying window manager system, it merely is a unity-window-
decorator/metacity issue.

Another note that may be helpful, on gnome-shell problem is not there,
focus is always behaving properly. I seriously doubt is due to the theme
as well, as it happens with any theme.

[Bug 894242] [NEW] ibus daemon causes nautilus to crash

2011-11-23 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

Happens randomly, and very specific: when you close a Nautilus window. I
have ibus enabled with Chinese PIN YIN Input Method, and seldom use it.
Just ibus running in background causes the issue. When the bug occur,
desktop items disappear, Unity launcher behave erratically and CPU usage
stays at 100% for ibus-daemon process. After a while, python goes to
100% as well and stays there for some time. To make desktop become
normal, have to logoff/login again.

2011-11-22 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hello Guys, are you going to do something about this ? Need any help
with it ? Is pretty much embarassing... For me personally, I cannot
mount my phone or any other devices over Bluetooth, so even Gammu is not
working (to backup phone data), and have to resort back to 1920s USB
cable connection.

Downloaded daily build of 12.04 LTS today and much to my disappointment
I can see that the bug is still there, rendering Bluetooth almost
totally useless. Tried to report the bug but ubuntu-bug failed with an
error message... oh well...

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-22 Thread Simone Lussardi
Sebastien: I confirm that this bug happen on *any* Ubuntu 3D with *any*
card/any driver (tested on ATI/intel with stock drivers). I have tested
on several desktops and laptops. Focus is not behaving properly, and it
only happen when using Metacity as a window decorator (used trough
compiz-decorator -- unity-window-decorator -- metacity). The other
related bug during scaling has gone with a compiz update in the proposed
repositories. So, it is not related to FGLRX driver. I confirm also that
on Ubuntu 2D it doesn't happen.

To verify once more that is absolutely and only related to window
decorator stuff, I have downloaded, compiled and installed Emerald, and
run for several days with emerald --replace as window decorator. Focus
behaviour is *always* correct, on Ubuntu 3D. Do you need help to test
out some patches ?

Good, one problem related to this bug has been fixed by a compiz update

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-10 Thread Simone Lussardi
OK, I also found a way to get back the right focus behaviour, and I
think is proof that is related to *unity-window-decorator* --
*metacity* communication. Of course, only talking about Unity 3D.

1) Open a lot of windows and keep them at normal size on screen (NOT
maximized); some if not all, will have the wrong focus behaviour as explained
extensively above. ATTENTION: do not open programs that may corrupt data if
closed directly, as we are going to reboot the system trough terminal later on.
2) Open a terminal window.
3) Run the command metacity --replace
4) Entire unity interface will disappear
5) All windows will be replaced by metacity compositor (which anyway is already
running trough unity), including window borders. Shadows will be gone.
6) Magically, all focus behaviour will be correct now, and with the same theme
in use. Of course cannot use ALT+TAB and unity launcher, top bar will be gone.
7) To restore the system from this situation, press CTRL+ALT+T to open another
terminal
8) Do a sudo reboot command.

So, when unity-window-decorator is launching metacity compositor,
something is wrong in there, just my 0.02$.

Actually bug's title should be changed to totally wrong focus
behaviour, because is really not only the transparency (which with the
help of Sam I have disabled), but the entire behaviour of focus is
wrong.

It does happen also without fglrx drivers, also with open-source
drivers. It doesn't happen when you try Ubuntu from the USB...

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-08 Thread Simone Lussardi
Done some more testing today. Basically, we can divide the bug in 2
categories:

(testing done with Adwaita theme enabled, and fglrx driver enabled
(doesn't matter anyway, happens with any driver)).

1) Wrong window border focus: on some windows (happens randomly), top
bar icon mouse over doesn't work (as per screenshot). When the window is
focused, bar is sometimes transparent and sometimes not. When opening
apps, it may appear unfocused even if the app is focused. Focusing
doesn't change the status of the top bar of the window border. I can
provide screen-shots. Weirdly, Nautilus windows are unaffected by this
problem. It doesn't make any difference if the program has a launcher in
the Unity app launcher or not.

2) Very bad aspect when using scaling: when opening 2 windows of the
same program (e.g., Nautilus), regardless of point 1 above, the top bar
of the window get totally messed up. When moving mouse over one or the
other window, the top bar may totally disappear, appear in pieces,
flash, messing the screen up. If the window border is over the edge of
the screen, when applying scaling to select the window the top bar get
cut exactly on the point that is over the edge of the screen. If the
window is maximized, it appears in scaling always without borders. It is
still related to unity-window-decorator because window content and
behavior is correctly shown.

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-05 Thread Simone Lussardi
Done some more in-depth testing, correlating the problem to a possible
openGL/video card/driver issue, but it's not.

First of all, I am running:
- Lenovo T400
- Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit with Unity
- ATI Radeon HD 3400
- No switcheroo enabled (onboard Intel video card disabled by BIOS)

Did the following things:
- Purged fglrx driver totally and re-fixed a base install of the stock driver:
problem still there.
- Reverted to the default theme (Ambiance): problem still there.
- From the install disk (USB), try Ubuntu: problem is not there...
- Upgraded fglrx driver to latest version from ATI website (11.10... how nice
is that !): problem still there.

It seems to me that is related to the compiz/unity plugin. I will see if
I can find a way to make it disappear to see what plugin is exactly
causing it.

[Bug 885941] Re: Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-04 Thread Simone Lussardi
Add one more note. The behaviour is very bad when you open multiple
window of the same app, then you use the launcher to open the Scale
windows selector (for example, if you have 3 windows it will show all
of them maximized, and mouse-over them will highlight the title bar).
Sometimes the title bar appear cut, erratic, sometimes disappear
totally. Sometimes does not appear at all, especially if the window is
maximized.

[Bug 751689] Re: Thinkpads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'

2011-11-03 Thread Simone Lussardi
Guys, I have had same problems with all versions of Ubuntu (from 10.04
till 11.10). Used thinkfan to control and put in disengaged mode, the
only way to cool things.

Funny end of the story, turned out to be the a dirty cooling unit. All
thinkpads has quite good dissipating units, but they tend to be clogged
extremely easily. Moreover, some dust get into my fan and was vibrating,
so I disassembled entire dissipating block, cleaned tons of dust that
was stuck in the dissipator, properly lubricated entire fan unit with
some WD40 (circuit friendly), and the result is incredible. I live in
the tropics and sometimes I use my T400 without AC. When doing normal
activity, fan always throttle normally as it should do. If I use max
performance, it will go to the top admitted by auto (which is never same
as disengaged in thinkpads) and temperature will slowly increase and
stay steady at no more than 70C (GPU too) even if room temp is nearly
30C.

Thinkpad fan is purely controlled by the BIOS. You can install all sort
of utilities to manually control the speed, but nothing beats BIOS
settings, that are working properly with a clean unit.

If anybody has the problem with a perfectly clean unit, then please
report it here.

[Bug 751689] Re: Thinkpads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'

2011-11-03 Thread Simone Lussardi
Forgot to mention: with stock ATI drivers (my PC has HD Radeon 3400),
the GPU always stays above 60C even when resting, and CPU get some side
heat from the GPU. But even on that configuration, the CPU is never
going above 70C, because performance are less in 3D, so GPU always stay
more or less the same. With fglrx driver, GPU always stay around 45~48C
at rest, triggering the fan to throttle around the second-to-highest
level, with high room temps.

[Bug 885941] [NEW] Windows top bar focus transparency not behaving properly

2011-11-03 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

The top bar (title bar, button bar) of windows is supposed to be
transparent when window is not focused and in background. Behaviour
seems to be random. Sometimes the bar is not transparent when in
background, and sometimes it stays transparent even when the focus is
given. Happens randomly with any window and any program. Happens either
with fresh installs of Ubuntu 11.10 and upgrades from 11.04 to 11.10 (so
is related to Unity itself). Tried all kind of tricks in compiz without
any success.

Attached a file, where behaviour is exactly the opposite as it should
normally be !

[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-11-03 Thread Simone Lussardi
Ubuntu 11.10 32 bits, Lenovo T400, ATI Raden HD 3400, fglrx driver
installed, same as all of you. At full speed of processor, is always
using at least 1% of the CPU (throttling between 1% and 3% at full
idle). I think this bug is also causing some slight choppy behaviour
when dragging windows around.

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2011-11-02 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hey guys:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11417570#post11417570

Could be related to regex matching of the window name ! When you open
certain files in read-only mode, LibreOffice append a (read only)
string somewhere in the title, it could mess up the matching of the task
manager of Unity. Hope is useful to fix the bug ! Is really very
annoying, and affecting a lot of people that are not posting on
Launchpad.

issue, while you if you open from the app launcher the app directly and
then the file, is all well.

Log maybe useful to you guys.

And this is what happen when I try to browse:

This bug is terribly similar to the GVFS related bug I had once I tried
to upgrade my libimobiledevice on my 10.04 Lucid installation. At the
time, I upgraded an iPhone OS and wasn't unable to connect anymore.
Found a fix for the library, but it required to upgrade also GVFS. After
I did, I got exactly that problem and that error. Seems a reincarnated
bug...

2011-10-25 Thread Simone Lussardi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 872044 ***

It is not a duplicated bug. Essentially I get the same problem with my
Nokia phone and Bluetooth (Lenovo T400 laptop). Worked like a charm with
10.04, 10.10, 11.04, then I did the upgrade to 11.10 and while I *can*
send/receive files from either my laptop or the phone (bi-directional) I
*cannot* browse the device. After the second attempt, entire Bluetooth
applet crashes on Unity and to re-open it I have to restart the
computer.

[Bug 238208] Re: Need MemoryStick driver Ricoh R5C592 (part of R5C832/822chipset)

2011-10-25 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hello guys,

I have modified your source Maxim to compile on Kernel 3 and Ubuntu
11.10 (I tested 32 bit only), I have attached the patch here, hope is
useful to somebody ! If someone need, I also have a version that compile
on Ubuntu 11.04.

For all those with Lenovo T400, the 7.1 reader is not in the Kernel by
default, and need to compile and install manually.

As for the original, just unpack anything into a folder, open a terminal and cd
into that folder, then:
make
sudo make install
sudo make load

It will then reload automatically at startup.

Cheers guys,
Simone

** Attachment added: ATTENTION ! Compile ONLY on Ubuntu 11.10 with Kernel = 3
