[Bug 595344] Re: jockey failed to install Broadcom B43 wireless driver
FYI, firmware-b43-installer is not included in the Maverick LiveCD, so you can no longer install the Broadcom wireless drivers using the LiveCD. I've opened a new bug report for this as Bug 653790. -- jockey failed to install Broadcom B43 wireless driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 653790] [NEW] firmware-b43-installer is not included in the Maverick LiveCD
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity In Maverick, both firmware-b43-installer and b43-fwcutter are needed in order to use the Broadcom wireless cards. Since the Maverick LiveCD only contains b43-fwcutter, it's not possible to get wireless working on these cards after installing Maverick unless you establish a wired internet connection first and download firmware-b43-installer. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: iso-testing -- firmware-b43-installer is not included in the Maverick LiveCD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653790 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 648631] Re: Intel graphics drivers not working on new kernels on Maverick?
Ah, I see what you meant now, sorry. The 2.6.35-16 kernel rebased to the 2.6.35.2 mainline kernel, so the same logic applies, you just have to test the mainline 2.6.35.1 and 2.6.35.2 kernels instead of 2.6.35 vs. 2.6.35.1 for the presence of the bug (and of course still do everything else in my first post). -- Intel graphics drivers not working on new kernels on Maverick? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/648631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 648631] Re: Intel graphics drivers not working on new kernels on Maverick?
Please purge the xorg-edgers PPA so you can get a cleaner debugging environment (default Maverick packages). Please upgrade your system, since there's a chance that this bug might have already been fixed in a more recent kernel. At the text console, login, and then run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade". Once you boot into the current Maverick kernel (2.6.35-22.33 at the time of writing this), please attach debugging information to this report by typing "apport-collect -p linux 648631" into a terminal. If your problem is still present in the current Maverick kernel: The -15 kernel (which is the kernel that introduced this bug) rebased to the mainline 2.6.35.1 kernel. This indicates that there might be a problem introduced between the 2.6.35 and 2.6.35.1 mainline kernels. Please install both of these mainline kernels from the Mainline Kernel PPA [1], along with the most current mainline kernel (v2.6.36-rc5-maverick/ at the time of writing this) (installation instructions can be found here [2]). Then please test whether the bug is still present in all three of these mainline kernels (including dmesg from all three kernels would also be helpful when you report if they work or not). Thank you for taking the time to debug and hopefully make Ubuntu better. Hi Leann, After upgrading my system, I've discovered that the cursor is back. I'm pretty sure it's the fbdev driver that restored the cursor, because the xorg-server containing that switch was one of the updates, and now my -20 kernel has a working cursor (it didn't before the upgrades). [Bug 613349] Re: CTR + ALT + F1 (actually all of the terminals) not working
What packages did you update to break this? It looks like you recently upgraded to the -24 kernel; does booting into the -23 kernel in GRUB fix the problem? Did you try switching VTs in the same session you filed this bug? There's no indication in the logs that a VT switch was requested. If you didn't try switching, please try again and then upload the output of dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Please also run 'sudo intel_reg_dumper > intel_reg_dumper1.txt' on a fresh boot. Then try switching VTs and run 'sudo intel_reg_dumper > intel_reg_dumper2.txt'. Then upload both files to this report. If you can find a working configuration (like using a different kernel), it'd be helpful if you could do the same procedure as above on that configuration too. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - CTR + ALT + F1 (actually all of the terminals) not working + [gm45] CTR + ALT + F1 (actually all of the terminals) not working -- [gm45] CTR + ALT + F1 (actually all of the terminals) not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apt When adding a PPA through add-apt-repository, it generates two files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d. One is a .list containing the 'deb http://...' info, and another .list.save, which is a backup of the former. [Bug 613276] [NEW] usb-creator doesn't copy files to usb drive unless it's opened with root privileges
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usb-creator Steps to Reproduce: 1) Open usb-creator-gtk. 2) Select ISO (10.10 daily-live). 3) Erase disk. 4) Click "Open" to mount it. Then after a while this window closes and is replaced by one containing: An uncaught exception was raised: [Errno 13] Permission Denied: '/media/disk_/casper' It looks like this is right before the window saying "Copying files" is supposed to come up, based on the timeframe. [Bug 609044] Re: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs VESA VGA
Ah, I see the problem now. ureadahead is causing the system to run out of memory before the kernel sets up the swap space. So without the spillover into swap, it's forced to kill processes, one of which is plymouth, and this explains why you're not seeing it. Just search the kern.log you uploaded for "swap" and you'll see what I mean. [4.011349] 0 pages in swap cache [4.011350] Swap cache stats: add 0, delete 0, find 0/0 [4.011352] Free swap = 0kB [4.011353] Total swap = 0kB [4.016847] 751615 pages RAM [4.016850] 524290 pages HighMem [4.016851] 12490 pages reserved [4.016852] 443 pages shared [4.016853] 215331 pages non-shared [4.584624] Adding 2096444k swap on /dev/sda5. Priority:-1 extents:1 across:2096444k All that is *after* the ureadahead/memory errors I posted above. I agree that you might as well open a new bug against ureadahead with 'ubuntu-bug ureadahead' at this point. It'll contain all the Apport information they'll expect (instead of this xserver-xorg-video-intel info) and they won't have to wade through 10+ comments trying to figure out the problem. So if you wouldn't mind running 'ubuntu-bug ureadahead' immediately after booting into Maverick, and once you've finished reporting, post the ureadahead bug's url here and mark this report invalid. [Bug 609044] Re: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs VESA VGA
Shane, Are all the boots in kern.log from the default Maverick boot? They seem to be using the Maverick kernel, but I also noticed you suspended in a couple of them, which would be hard to do if you can't boot :) It seems ureadahead is taking all of your memory, and then both it and plymouth are being killed to free some of that memory. From kern.log, most recent entry (on the bottom): [3.994657] ureadahead invoked oom-killer: gfp_mask=0xd0, order=0, oom_adj=0 [3.994664] ureadahead cpuset=/ mems_allowed=0 [3.994669] Pid: 371, comm: ureadahead Not tainted 2.6.35-10-generic #15-Ubuntu [3.994672] Call Trace: ... It also looks like you don't have any swap space. Is this true? Did you not set up a swap partition when you installed Maverick? If there's no swap space, then that's why you're running out of memory, and you should create a swap partition. A new version of ureadahead was also uploaded recently, ureadahead 0.100.0-6, which fixes bug 501715. This bug caused ureadahead to use much more memory than it should. Chris, Are you sure this isn't an X bug? There's a segfault in the Xorg.0.log.old (which is the default boot where the error occured). Wouldn't this be the problem? If I allow the startup process to continue without interference to change options, I eventually end up with a blank screen, no response to mouse or keyboard except for ctrl-alt-del, which preforms a shutdown. ctrl-alt-f1 will not bring up a terminal either. When I turn on the 'nomodeset' boot option I can see the boot splash, can ESC out of it and see boot text. The other options in the live boot option screen do not seem to make an appreciable difference. With my moderate amount of linux experience, I'm going to postulate that this is a graphics chipset driver issue because of the display corruption and the fact that 'nomodeset' at least improves the boot experience. [Bug 605667] Re: [arrandale] Maverick boots to a black screen: "(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected."
Good, I see it's working a little better with the latest updates from xorg-edgers. It's now giving problems with the DRM driver in the kernel: [25.710] drmGetBusid returned '' [25.710] (EE) intel(0): [drm] failed to set drm interface version. [25.710] (EE) intel(0): Failed to become DRM master. so it'd be helpful to get the dmesg output for the error and see what the kernel says. I'm willing to bet that if you can shutdown normally using the power button, you can also switch to another VT with Ctrl+Alt+F1. This makes gathering logs much easier, as I'm sure you know. So now I'd like you to recreate the scenario above, but this time add 'drm.debug=0x06' as the only kernel parameter. This will add debugging information to dmesg. Then switch to another VT after recreating and get a copy of /var/log/dmesg, the output of 'dmesg', and another copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log for consistency. cat /var/log/dmesg > BootDmesg.txt dmesg > CurrentDmesg.txt cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > Xorg.0.log.txt (or however else you want to capture those three files.) If you can't switch to another VT, you'll need to SSH in from another computer to get the two dmesg logs (alternately you could cherrypick that particular boot from kern.log, copy it to another file (so the file is smaller and only contains the relevant boot) and upload that along with Xorg.0.log.old). -- [arrandale] Maverick boots to a black screen: "(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605667 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 605667] Re: Kernel Panic on Live USB Boot, Intel Graphics not working
Please update your Maverick install first: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade Then remove/backup your xorg.conf file: sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak (you can revert with 'sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf' if you need to) And then reboot without any boot options (quiet, splash, xforcevesa, or nomodeset). This should recreate the bug with the default settings (quiet and splash just add noise, so even though they're default, removing them gives a cleaner debugging scenario). After this freezes, reboot using 'xforcevesa nomodeset' so you can get a usable desktop, and upload /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old to this bug report. This should give us the Xorg.0.log for the broken default boot, which is basically the complete Xorg.0.log you took snippets from in comment #1. Thank you for taking the time to help bugfix Maverick while it's still in its development phase. If you have any questions about these instructions, please let me know and I'll try and explain them better. As a sidenote, booting with 'nomodeset' gave you a kernel panic because the -intel driver in Maverick doesn't support User Mode Settings anymore (only KMS), so when you tried to boot without KMS, the kernel got very confused and gave you a kernel panic. ** Summary changed: - Kernel Panic on Live USB Boot, Intel Graphics not working + [arrandale] Maverick boots to a black screen: "(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected." -- [arrandale] Maverick boots to a black screen: "(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605667 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 583146] Re: [i915gm] X crashes. startx: "Fatal server error: Failed to submit batchpuffer. Input/output error"
Furious Dave, Because different graphics bugs usually present with the same symptoms, we ask that everyone files separate bugs for each system. Please file a new bug with 'ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel' during the same boot as the crash (using SSH or TTY), or if you have to reboot also attach /var/log/kern.log. Thank you. -- [i915gm] X crashes. startx: "Fatal server error: Failed to submit batchpuffer. [Bug 585923] Re: [gm45] xserver completely freezes each time when executing paraview
Please recreate the issue with the xorg-edgers PPA packages and the latest current mainline kernel [1] (installation instructions here [2]). After you recover (i.e. reboot), upload /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. Also check cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state If there's anything in there other than "no error state collected", upload "/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state" too.
