Re: [Bug 1440275] Re: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ
I have found a solution to this problem. Open Ubuntu Software Center, search for Language Support, download and install it. This is a language setting software used in Ubuntu (Unity version). It bears the same UN flag icon as the language tool in the GNOME control center, but it is a separate software. When you click and open this software, a dialogue box will pop up and will ask you if you agree to install the language packs which is incomplete. Click yes, and it will install the necessary elements which might be missing. Then go to regional setting, you will find your region on the list. Set the desired region and apply it. You should log out and log in again to make the change take effect. I think this is only a temporary solution. As Gunnar pointed out, the language tool in the GNOME control center should be fixed so that the regional formats can be set from there. 2015-05-08 6:29 GMT-04:00 Gunnar Hjalmarsson 1440...@bugs.launchpad.net: On 2015-05-08 09:31, Saurav Sengupta wrote: My problem, as linked to from comment #12, is that the Region Language panel does not list India (English). Even if it lists a non-English format such as Korean as mentioned in comment #10, it still does not list any English formats other than the few noted in the OP. Right. And I think you were close to the truth when you said in a comment on the Ask Ubuntu page that gnome-control-center seems to get its list from /usr/share/locale-langpack. That's approximately what happens, and it's fine when it comes to selecting display languages, but it's not correct for selecting regional formats. In other words there should be two separate lists, but currently gnome-control-center uses the list intended for display languages for both purposes. My somewhat technical comment was intended for Tim who is an Ubuntu GNOME developer. I might propose a fix later on, but I'd like Tim's view on which route to take first. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440275 Title: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in gnome-desktop3 package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Beta 2. Re: [Bug 1440275] Re: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ
Korean shows up in the language-selector panel, but not in the region-selector panel. As a matter of fact, no other regions except US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand show up in the region selector panel. The region-selector does show Other button at the bottom, but pressing the button has no effect: it does not give me choice of other regions. The choice is limited to the 5 regions mentioned above. This behavior of region-selector has not been corrected in the Beta version of 15.04. So I reinstalled Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS (which is free from this bug) and upgraded from there to 15.04. Now the GNOME control center panel is showing the correct regional format of numbers, time, temperatures and metric units. However, since I haven't clean-installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 from scratch, I don't know what the experience of other Korean users who took this route of installation might be. 2015-04-24 18:53 GMT-04:00 Tim t...@feathertop.org: So Korean shows up in the language-selector region panel, but not gnome- control-center panel? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440275 Title: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Beta 2. Re: [Bug 1440275] Re: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ
Yes, I did. I even removed Korean language pack and reinstalled it to see if the reinstallation makes the choice of regions available, but it still shows limited choice of British Commonwealth countries and the US. As you probably know, I don't need to install language pack separately, since when you set the locale to Korean, the system automatically downloads all the necessary language packs. So far no flavors of Ubuntu 15.04 cause the same issue but Ubuntu GNOME. (I even tried Fedora 22 alpha 1 and it did not have such an issue.) I found this issue about three weeks ago. I hoped the issue is gone after the RC version is released, but it is still there. Like I said, I will fresh install the 15.04 on another machine after tomorrow's release to see if the issue is gone. 2015-04-22 18:10 GMT-04:00 Tim t...@feathertop.org: This still sounds like you are missing the langpacks Run language-selector, click the Install/Remove Languages button, does it show Korean is installed? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440275 Title: Ubuntu GNOME only allows regional format setting for US, UK, Canada, Australia, and NZ Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Beta 2. [Bug 1353951] Re: gnome online accounts require autentication on startup
The bug reiterates in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04. I tried to lower the security level on Google's account admin page so the GNOME can get clearance in accessing the Google data (notwithstanding Google's threat of security vulnerability), but GNOME still fails to authenticate even with correct password typed in. I don't think the patch file works. [Bug 660968] [NEW] bluez daemon unstable on Eee 1015
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bluez The bluetooth daemon, bluetoothd, doesn't want to run for a long time. After a while it just...dies. Sometimes it doesn't die, but it says things like this in the log: Can't read address for hci0: Connection timed out (110) src/adapter.c:adapter_start() Adapter /org/bluez/16390/hci0 without an address unable to set mode: discoverable I have blueman and not gnome-bluetooth, but it shouldn't matter what client I have if they just interface with the daemon. I've noticed that if I do the temporarily visible thing (a feature not available in gnome- bluetooth), it works once and stays discoverable for 60 seconds and then goes to connectable, but If I try again, it just ignores it. If I try once more, the applet locks up, probably because it got a response from the daemon it didn't expect. The whole reason I got blueman is that gnome-bluetooth had spotty control over the adapter. I dodn't know how the bluetooth stack worked at the time, so I thought the root of it was in gnome-bluetooth, but I think it's in the daemon. It's not easily reproducible because it seems to happen at random. Is it a memory leak or something? I attached a hci.log from hcidumb. The capture time was from when I tried temporarily discoverable in blueman. I don't think it's too helpful. I also have the output of grep bluetoothd /var/log/daemon.log. This is more useful, I feel. I have Maverick. It was present in Lucid, too. [Bug 660968] Re: bluez daemon unstable on Eee 1015
Looking through the bugs here, I see many others have had this problem...shoot, I should have looked better before reporting. Oh well, at least I have the apport stuff up for more data for the cause...still, I really wonder what's going on. Bluetooth is the only thing that's not working right on my little Eee. One thing though, it seems to crash more if I put it in standby and bring it back up. The blueman temporarily visible thing is really getting on my nerves though. Seems like a good feature. -- bluez daemon unstable on Eee 1015 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 659608] [NEW] gnome-power-manager detects iPhone twice.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager The indicator applet icon for gnome-power-manager shows my iPhone twice as Cell phone when I click on it. It also seems to be inaccurate, going in 10% increments, though I don't have a point of reference to tell if this is normal behaviour. The iPhone is an iPhone 3G. [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work
I have a similar problem, I think. I have an ASUS Eee 1015PED. The touchpad works fine, even all the capacitive multitouch things, like the two-fingered scrolling and the three-fingered right click, but there is no Touchpad Tab in Preferences - Mouse, so I can't turn on the disable- touchpad-while-typing thing, or turn off tap-to-click...both problems are incredibly annoying to me, because my mouse flies around when I'm trying to type, and I always inadvertently click things with the touchpad while moving my finger. I tried running syndaemon, but it says it can't find anything. I tried gsynaptics, but it says it needs 'SHMClient' 'true' enabled in xorg.conf. That's not going to fly because there is no xorg.conf in 10.04 because there's no hal; it's all udev now, which I have no idea how to configure. I tried fiddling with synclient but it said there wasn't any driver to connect to. I think that, at least on my machine, the touchpad is operating on a lower level than udev is aware of, because my scrolling is working, but the Touchpad tab in Mouse is absent. This suggests udev is seeing it as a generic mouse, and some other driver or something is passing the touchpad-type stuff to the higher levels. For example, to get the Fn keys working on my 1015, I had to use a kernel parameter. Does getting the touchpad to work require a kernel parameter? I was directed to come here by looking at this: http://markmail.org/message/y5zvwpemhd63dfj5 Some outputs: lsmod | grep psmouse psmouse63245 0 - dmesg | grep mouse [0.392123] input: Macintosh mouse button emulation as /devices/virtual/input/input4 [0.586860] mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice [ 14.467520] psmouse serio1: ID: 10 00 64 -- Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550625 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 636670] Re: Network Manager says it isn't connected, but in fact it is
Hey, sorry I didn't reply earlier, I couldn't get access to the router for awhile. Anyway, I seem to have fixed it by fiddling with the radio settings in the router's config. The radio band and channel were set to auto. I set the band to Standard @ 20MHz (as opposed to Wide @ 40MHz), and the channel to 6 (2.437Ghz). Now NM works as it should. ** Changed in: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Network Manager says it isn't connected, but in fact it is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/636670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 636670] [NEW] Network Manager says it isn't connected, but in fact it is
Public bug reported: I have a ASUS Eee 1015PE netbook. When I go to connect to my home WiFi, it works fine and runs full-speed and all, but the Network Manager tray applet says it isn't connected to anything (greyed out bars with the red exclamation point). However, it only does it with this network. Also if I right click it, it says under 'Wireless Networks,' 'Disconnect,' but no SSID of the network I'm connected to above it. Otherwise, it's functions fine, I can disconnect and reconnect without a problem, my WPA key gets sent, the DHCP server in the router giver me a valid IP, etc. The ethernet connection also works. However, on any other network, NM reports the signal strength fine. I know it has to do with NM, because I tried it with WiCD, and it did not have this problem. The other networks I have tried were unsecured, WEP, and WPA with TKIP encryption.. The router that seems to be causing the problem is a Linksys WRT160N. The authentication I'm using is WPA, with AES encryption. The wireless adapter in the netbook is a Broadcom 4313 2.4 GHz PCI card, and I'm using the proprietary Broadcom driver, wl. The ISP is Comcast, with their cable modem/VoIP module thing. I haven't tried another network with AES encryption though, so I have a hunch it's related to that. If it means anything, the system detects the wireless card as eth1, not wlan0. To reiterate, when connected to this network, it actually works fine, but NM doesn't report so. In fact, I am using the same connection to report this bug. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.1. Indeed, ATT's DNS is slow. ATT is my ISP as well, and I also have a 2wire router, however, I have DSL and not U-verse, which is cable. A DNS tester for Linux would be here http://swmirror.org/drupal/node/92 . It just uses a big text file of 10,000 domains and looks them up rapid-fire, and averages the times. There's a pre-compiled binary in that zip. Might need dependencies though. People who have routers with gateways will make Network Manager incorrectly set the DNS to the router's internal address. This only works if everything is set to automatic. If you set the DNS manually in Network Manager, this can be fixed completely, provided you know the DNS's address, presumably from going on the router's config page and looking for it there if you haven't seen it. [Bug 574886] Re: Apt has strange network errors when updating indexes.
Put an update on this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1466944 To summarize what I said so far, I have bad DSL line quality (uncanceled echo) that's making my router flip out and randomly drop the connection. This also appears to be causing this problem with apt-get update, through there is no packet loss while the router near as I can tell, and latency seems to be OK. How many people here have DSL? If you have a router/modem thing, look in its config, however you do it with your model. Do you have uncanceled echo? [Bug 481763] Re: Limited functionality in CPU Fire Applet 1.4 in Karmic
Getting 1.6-1 from Debian unstable doesn't work for me, in Karmic. It has a dependency that breaks a package, specifically libfontconfig1. It needs 2.8.0, and breaks 2.6.0. Well, libfontconfig1 needs fontconfig- config, which is what actually breaks it, but that's besides the point. This package is important, because (in my main learning experience) I force installed fontconfig-config 2.8.0, and found it borked most everything that needed 2.6.0, which was a lot. Oh well, I have a separate /home partition, no worries. Keep in mind that I compiled my 1.6 from source, so this is probably the reason why there wasn't dependency problems, AND why the bug still exists in the compiled version. Come to think of it, the thing that remains static to me is libfontconfig1, which might be where the bug actually is, because 1.4 used to work fine on the same setup. libfontconfig1 may have been updated and broken something. This is all speculation of course... Packages are here: sid's libfontconfig1: http://packages.debian.org/sid/libfontconfig1 sid's fontconfig-config: http://packages.debian.org/sid/fontconfig-config There may be more, but I haven't gotten past libfontconfig1, so I can't be sure. -- Limited functionality in CPU Fire Applet 1.4 in Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481763 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 481763] [NEW] Limited functionality in CPU Fire Applet 1.4 in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cpufire-applet cpufire-applet 1.4-4ubuntu1 I have found a regression in the panel applet CPU Fire Applet, in reference to Jaunty. In CPU Fire Applet, mousing over the flame supposed to show the CPU usage, which doesn't work in Karmic. Also, more serious, is that Preferences... doesn't work at all. Selecting the menu item doesn't open the preferences window. Open System Monitor, Help, and About work correctly. I started crawling the web looking for some post to shed some light on the situation, but to no avail; however, I did find the source to v. 1.6. I went ahead and compiled it after getting a whole bunch of dependencies (libgtop2-dev, libpanel-applet2-dev, libgtk2.0-dev, etc, etc). I ran that, and still had the same problem. This is not major, but still an annoyance for me, because it used to be a convenient way for me check CPU usage, what with my s...@home and all, and I liked it nice and big, next to sensors-applet. With the preferences window gone, I can't change the size or sensitivity of the applet. I am now running 1.4 again, because I thought it would make more sense to run the repos one, which most people would have, and that there is no noticible increase of performance, extra features, or the fix to this bug in 1.6. I removed 1.6 with make clean, and manual config file deletion. I can't get any terminal output because I'm not exactly sure how to run it from the terminal. The executable runs with no error messages, and just sits there. i think I need to assign it to a panel from the terminal somehow to get anything useful to report. Expected: The mouse over function works, and so does the preferences window, with operable controls. Actual: The mouse over and preferences are completely absent. [Bug 472077] [NEW] usplash does not display certain splash themes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usplash Using 9.10 Karmic Final. usplash 0.5.49, startupmanager 1.9.12-1ubuntu1 Hello again. I've been having a problem with usplash. With certain themes, when booting or shutting down, only text set at the bootloader's resolution will be displayed. There is no splash screen whatsoever, even is quiet is enabled. If the default splash screen is used (usplash- theme-ubuntu), it works fine. usplash themes from the reops (debian- theme, usplash-theme-ubuntu-color) also works fine. however, themes from anywhere else (suck as GNOME look) have the above problem. Looking at my boot text (and also shutdown text), I found this: usplash main process () terminated with status code 3 Nothing else looked out of the ordinary. To make sure I am installing the splash screen correctly, this is what I'm doing: 1. I go over to GNOME look and grab a theme (Afisufi High Tech, for example: http://www.gnome- look.org/content/show.php/Asufi+High+Tech+Usplash+Theme?content=98360) 2. I download the file. I extract the contents of afisufi-high- tech-0.1-alpha-4.so.bz2, and end up with afisufi-high- tech-0.1-alpha-4.so 3. I get Startup Manager and go to Appearance -- Manage usplash themes... I hit add. I then navigate to where afisufi-high- tech-0.1-alpha-4.so is and open it. 4. I select afisufi-high-tech- 0.1-alpha-4. I close Startup Manager. It runs the post-config scripts and closes. 5. I confirm that the file ended up where it supposed to be by looking in /usr/lib/usplash. It is there. I confirmed that the resolution and color depth and things were correct. It is 1280x1024 at 24 bits (17 LCD monitor) Some notes: I uninstalled GRUB2 and installed Grub Legacy, simply because I think the whole not being able to directly edit this new grub.cfg, and having to tinker with the files in /etc/grub.d and /etc/default/grub is a little confounding, and needs some time to get some polish. (like the whole pulseaudio thing, which drove me up the wall for months in Jaunty, now seems to have gotten darn stable and causing no problems at this point) This also happened to me in 9.04 Jaunty. The usplash guidelines are to be attached along with the apport stuff. Also, just for kicks, an extended dmesg.
