This bug is rejected because from the supplied information there's no way to even start tracking this down. I initially attributed this to a hardware problem, but I've actually swapped the video card and disk into a completely different machine and the problem has recurred. The only other explanation is that the video card itself is failing and bringing the system down with it. [Bug 50079] Re: CD Burner needs file based temporary directory
The default install won't even create /tmp, leaving it as a subdirectory of /, ext3 normally. So for noobs, this isn't an issue. What you say suggests that if you do a manual install, the installer creates /tmp as tmpfs. Seems to me people tweaking their filesystem layout should be able to figure out that you need enough swap/tmp to burn a cd/dvd, and the _logical_ place to find a temporary image would be /tmp. Moving the temporary file will create endless confusion. If you don't have enough space, the solution is increase swap/the size of /tmp, not move the directory. Moving the temporary file to /var will result in the same issues when it fills up, but be harder to figure out what's wrong. It's also easier to increase the size of /tmp as it's based on swap, than /var, which may be on its own fixed size partition. ** Changed in: nautilus-cd-burner (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- CD Burner needs file based temporary directory https://launchpad.net/bugs/50079 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 52155] Re: Amarok crashes when playing .mp3, .wma, and .ogg files
From: http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/FAQ Amarok crashes during the Collection scan, always at the same point. What's happening? It's likely that one file in your Collection triggers a bug in the TagLib library, and makes Amarok crash. You can identify this file by looking at ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection_scan.log. You should report this crash to the TagLib bug database on bugs.kde.org and attach the broken file. Afterward you can remove the file from your Collection and repeat the scanning. [edit]Amarok crashes when I play a certain track, everytime, what's wrong? This usually means TagLib is crashing while reading that track's tags. Report the bug against TagLib at [1]. [edit]audio playback seems choppy. What causes this? Is there anything I can do? Audio playback can be affected by many things on a Unix/Linux system, including choice of drivers, sound card, the desktop environment you use, or even the filesystem you are using. You might try some of the things mentioned here http://ck.kolivas.org/faqs/audio_hints.txt [edit]Amarok crashes often, what can I do? Upgrade your ALSA libs and utils to the latest version, or use OSS, or OSS emulation If you use MySQL as the database backend, try the SQLite one, it is slightly more mature (the Amarok code, not the db itself) Try a different audio-engine. Make sure that all the libraries that Amarok uses were compiled with the same GCC version as Amarok itself. The situation when Amarok is compiled using GCC 3.4.x and linked against taglib which was compiled using GCC 3.3.x can lead to crashes even if you are not editing tags. If you're using KDE with artsd, try disabling auto suspend if idle after... in the sound system settings or at least don't use a value of 1 second since that will interfere every time amarok switches songs. Otherwise, forward us the backtraces when the email pops-up (you'll see). If you get a crash often you will get it fixed for sure if you forward a really good backtrace to us. See the next sections for assistance there. [Bug 51576] Re: rss-glx really slow (only 1-2fps) since recent fglrx driver update
Noticed this comment that exactly describes the problem, so I'd say the fix is known, and probably available upstream. Note: setting memoryLimit=0 in ~/.xscreensaver as they suggest does not fix the problem. From: /usr/share/doc/xscreensaver-gl/README.gl If you are having problems with running the GL screenhacs from xscreensaver, but not from a window, please see http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#gl-mem, especially if you are using nVIdia's GL implementation. This has appeared as a SIGSEGV crash and as a failutre to allocate GL context. In particular: 1.I upgraded to 3.33, and xscreensaver won't run GL hacks any more (or they run slowly), but they work fine from the command line. Try editing your .xscreensaver file and changing the memoryLimit setting to 0. Version 3.33 introduced the memoryLimit option as a precautionary limit to prevent runaway memory use if one of the display modes happened to be buggy; it prevents any program launched by xscreensaver from allocating more than that much memory. It defaults to 50M, which is a lot. However, apparently certain OpenGL libraries (notably nVidia) do something strange that makes them appear to allocate more than 128M of memory for every OpenGL program! Consequently, those programs die on startup because they aren't able to allocate memory. On some systems, memoryLimit doesn't cause the GL programs to crash, but instead, causes them to run slowly (non-accelerated.) Turning off the memory limit should work around this. -- rss-glx really slow (only 1-2fps) since recent fglrx driver update https://launchpad.net/bugs/51576 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51648] Re: PCMCIA/Compact Flash does not recognize/automount CF flash card
Rebooted now can mount CF card (doesn't automount however). On other other hand, noticed this in /var/log/messages: Jul 3 23:39:14 localhost kernel: [17179716.916000] pcmcia: Detected deprecated PCMCIA ioctl usage. Jul 3 23:39:14 localhost kernel: [17179716.916000] pcmcia: This interface will soon be removed from the kernel; please expect breakage unless you upgrade to new tools. -- PCMCIA/Compact Flash does not recognize/automount CF flash card https://launchpad.net/bugs/51648 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51576] rss-glx really slow (only 1-2fps) since recent fglrx driver update
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver The rss-glx screensavers on dapper used to run at rates similiar to breezy. Since the recent update to fglrx 8.26.18 (off the Seveas repo), frame rates are now only 1-2fps. Frame rates are normal (20-30fps) when run as just the screensaver executable in a window, eg /usr/lib/xscreensaver/matrixview, so I suspect gnome-screensaver is the culprit.
