[Bug 874763] [NEW] package samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package samba is not ready for configuration cannot configure (current status `half-installed')

2011-10-14 Thread Russell Gray
Public bug reported:

Running Distribution Update, two reports about Samba not loading and a
preceding report briefly about the video display software not being entirely
compatible with my somewhat dated hardware.
The load time until failure has been 3 hours 23 minutes.I was upgrading from
Natty, access to other details seems to be lost at this time.

[Bug 838778] Re: After installing Ubuntu One, there are 2 Ubuntu One launchers in System Settings

2011-09-06 Thread Michael Gray
QUOTING Dmitry Shachnev (mitya57):

This is caused by incorrect flags in ubuntuone-control-panel-
gtk.desktop.

Fix:
---
Categories=GNOME;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-GNOME-Settings-Panel;X-GNOME-PersonalSettings
+++ Categories=GNOME;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-GNOME-PersonalSettings

-

I tried making this change to /usr/share/app-install/desktop/ubuntuone-
control-panel-gtk.desktop but the file seemed to be empty or not there
(I was using gedit to access it). Could you please give some
instructions on how to make this change as it would be great to sort
this if it's an easy fix?

[Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-03-12 Thread Ryan Gray
I've got an HP Pavilion 6, and have had luck patching the xf86-input-
synaptics-1.3.0 driver. Anyone running Gentoo can use these
http://preview.tinyurl.com/4l69fe7 instructions, which worked out-of-
the-box for me.

For everyone else, patching xf86-input-synaptics with the attached patch
should fix things. I've had left, middle, and right click working
flawlessly, as well as two-finger scrolling and (slightly dodgy)
dragging.

[Bug 700899] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.10 crashes on install - every time I try

2011-01-09 Thread Tim Gray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried installing ubuntu 32 and 64 bit multiple times each on a Toshiba
120GB hdd on my lenovo T61. Each time, it crashed about 3/4 through the
installation. When it crashed, it came up with an error message. When
I clicked OK, it came up with another message to email you with what I
found, including a copy of the files. When I tried to reboot the
system, I had to force boot it with the power switch because it was
hung. It would not clear the error message and auto-reboot.

I didn't realize what you were wanting for the files, I thought you
simply meant the names of the files so you knew where the issue took
place. Had I known what you meant, i would have booted from the DVD and
retrieved the files, but I didn't understand, so I didn't save the
files.

When I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04LTS, it worked fine.

I am trying Linux for my first time, and am using a new (used) hdd (so
I could keep my original hdd unchanged to swap back), and was concerned
that I may have a bad sector on the hdd. However, since 10.4 installed
correctly, I no longer suspect the hdd, but rather the program.

I am quite good with computers and Windows systems, but new to Linux
systems. I decided to give Linux a try and see if I want to replace
Windows. I would like to try 10.10, but so far am unable.

Please see if you can tell me what the problem is and how to fix it. I
have 2GB Ram, 120 GB Toshiba SATA hdd. all else is stock configuration
for T61.

I see below where you describe the location of the files in the
installer log, and I've located them, but where do I put them to send to
you? I don't see any way of attaching them on this page.

Thanks,

Tim

This is the first time I have encountered this issue - whereby the icon,
the left-click menu and the details do NOT seem to reflect the various
charge states - for example, everything EXCEPT the charge history shows
a battery discharging and at almost 0 % charge. HOWEVER the charge
history is correct in showing a gradual increase in charge, from zero to
20% which is correct as the ac power supply is plugged in and has been
for the last 30 minutes or so. Incidentally when left-clicking the
battery icon I see that it is merely estimating and it will continue
to do so ad infinitum. This only started happening around midweek last
week.

I am running 10.10 32-bit Ubuntu with all updates. as of 24 10 10

Please indicate any information I can accquire to attempt to sove this
issue.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2010-10-24 Thread gray
Hello

OK I tried something hardware related

I was considering a new install of Ubuntu, using the 64-bit edition, so
booted off the live CD and noticed the same red outline of the battery
indicator as on the hard drive install...

...sooo I turned off the laptop and pulled the battery out, then shoved
it back in and restarted.

The power indicator now seems to behave normally ! The time to charged
is now slowly getting less and the details are now showing correctly - I
will monitor the situation for the next few days, but thus far the issue
seems to have been solved, tho I don't know if the issue was caused by a
simple bad connection with the battery / motherboard interface or if
there is some other switch which has been reset ?

The laptop is just over a year old - the battery seems to still be a
tight fit into it's compartment and there was definite solid click when
I re-inserted it.

Is it is possible that a kernel update somehow flicked a switch to cause the
issue ?

Do not use the 'amd64 deb of proposed fix' (#27). I was to hasty and
should have known patching/packaging could not be that easy. I left the

I'm sorry - since my last complaint, I have fixed the problem. Just in
case anyone else made the same foolish mistake as me... on the 'Output'

selected, and under 'Settings for the selected device', 'Connector' has
to be set to 'Analog Speakers': it will not work if set to either
'Analog Headphones' or 'Analog Output'.

(And for the record, may I please just add the sound quality on these
built-in speakers is rubbish.)

[Bug 632546] [NEW] apache and ssh hat mix up

2010-09-07 Thread John Gray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

We have been running a profile for apache for a while now. Recently I
put a profile in place for ssh. Everything looked good at first. Two
days later I restarted apache. I started getting tons of exceptions in
the logs on the ssh profile. Looking into it I realized that the
process that was reported the issues on the ssh profile was apache.
Specifically apache was finding the root hat for ssh. If I remove the
ssh profile and restart apache, the issue goes away.

Shouldn't these hats be is two different groups, or are they internally
just one big group?

[Bug 632546] Re: apache and ssh hat mix up

2010-09-07 Thread John Gray
Just as soon as I posted this, I figured out what's going on. Now I
don't think this is a bug after all. The problem is that apache was
restarted from within the root hat for ssh. And there wasn't a px for
it (there was an ix). Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 619521] [NEW] pam_apparmor fails to hunt through the hats

2010-08-17 Thread John Gray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

I have pam_apparmor set up for sshd as follows.

session optionalpam_apparmor.so order=user,group,default debug

It never searches group or default. It thinks it finds a hat the user
whether a hat exists for the user or not.

In complain mode, the debug messages are:

Aug 17 16:21:03 zeno sshd[22113]: pam_apparmor(sshd:session): Using username
'gray'
Aug 17 16:21:03 zeno sshd[22113]: pam_apparmor(sshd:session): Successfully
changed to hat 'gray'

Note, there is not a hat 'gray' defined. If I put it in enforce mode:

Aug 17 17:02:36 zeno sshd[3955]: pam_apparmor(sshd:session): Using username
'gray'
Aug 17 17:02:36 zeno sshd[3955]: pam_apparmor(sshd:session): Unknown error
occurred changing to gray hat: No such file or directory

Maybe we're doing something wrong, but I think its broken.

Yes, the current version of ftplugin/sql.vim imaps Left, Right, and
uses C-c as a sort of mapleader for insert mode. There are variables
you can set to customize the maps. You'll probably want to read the
documentation in :h sql-completion.

[Bug 240693] Re: vim-gnome is very slow to load

2010-05-19 Thread Will Gray
Or SESSION_MANAGER env variable is incorrect.

From Vim's help for -X options: When the X11 Session Management
Protocol (XSMP) handler has been built in, the -X option also disables
that connection as it, too, may have undesirable delays.

[Bug 534124] Re: Control-/ is broken in vim-gtk and vim-gnome

2010-05-14 Thread Will Gray
Vim detects that character / (0x2f) is different from character ctrl-_
(0x1f). Your terminal is the one that produces the ctrl-_ when holding
control and pressing /. Regardless, you cannot map ctrl-/ in either
case--you map ctrl-_. GVim and most terminals (e.g. xterm, gnome-
terminal, konsole) can make a ctrl-_ by holding ctrl and pressing 7 or
_. If that's not good enough, get on the vim-dev mailing list and
complain about it.

2010-05-13 Thread Will Gray
Constantine, AFAIK, the Vim documentation makes no such claim. It does
say that the presence of a vimrc will turn off 'compatible' mode,
regardless of whether Vim was started as vim or vi. Likewise, the
absence of a vimrc will default 'compatible' to on (unless set otherwise
in the system vimrc, etc.).

[Bug 353663] Re: vim scrolling in gnu screen broken (C-home/C-end)

2010-05-06 Thread Will Gray
It's not interesting that ctrl-home generates the same key sequence
inside and outside screen since that's a terminal emulator thing.

I believe the issue is that when TERM=screen, vim doesn't set the proper
termcap settings for interpreting the modified home and end keys (and
others). Compare :set End when running vim inside and outside screen.
I use a vim plugin to set those options to always recognize the
modifiers.

[Bug 572627] [NEW] ftdetect scripts not loaded from directories added to runtimepath

2010-04-30 Thread Will Gray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim-common

Introduced in version 2:7.2.330-1ubuntu3 in 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

The file /etc/vim/vimrc from the package vim-common has un-commented the
line syntax on, turning on vim's syntax highlighting. This causes
filetype detection to be enabled, which loads all ftdetect scripts from
the runtimepath. This change is harmful to users of the pathogen.vim
script, which edits the runtimepath. All the ftdetect scripts that
would have been found by doing syntax on or filetype on after using
pathogen are not found by the call to syntax on that happends before
using pathogen. This causes filetypes introduced in the bundles
installed using pathogen to not get detected.

** Affects: vim (Ubuntu)
