[Bug 1912670] Re: Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time
For the time being my workaround is to disable xfce4-power-manager by: 1) Going to Settings → Session and Startup → Application Autostart and unticking the "Power Manager (Power management for the Xfce desktop)" item in the list. 2) Removing the "Power Manager Plugin" item from the desktop panel This at least prevents the problem from happening, until a fix is issued. I can only assume that the problem was introduced in an update during the last few weeks, as it wasn't happening previously. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912670 Title: Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1912670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1912670] Re: Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time
Before I try GNOME desktop, I tried some additional things: 1) From the Ctrl_Alt+F1 terminal console, running 'sudo systemctl restart lightdm' restarts my desktop environment and everything is ok until a few minutes idle time causes the problem again. 2) In the Xfce desktop panel I removed the Power Manager Plugin. I also used 'ps -ef | grep power' to identify the xfce4-power-manager process id, and killed it with sudo kill, such that no xfce4 power management processes are listed by ps. After allowing many minutes of idle time, the problem does *not* occur. 3) I booted into the default desktop environment from the bootable Xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS USB stick (the same stick I installed from back in May 2020). The problem doesn't occur, even though xfce4-power-manager is running. Does this give any further clues? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912670 Title: Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1912670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1912670] Re: Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time
Thanks. Here are the results of your suggestions, plus some other things I tried: 1. 'tlp' was not installed. 2. I installed 'powertop' and checked its 'Tunables' section. There were 6 entries for "Autosuspend for USB device xHCI Host Controller" all set to 'Good' - I changed these to 'Bad'. The problem still occurred. 3. Further diagnostics eventually led to my trying the following: * added "usbcore.autosuspend=-1" to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line in /etc/default/grub * ran: sudo update-grub * rebooted * cat /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend [shows -1 as expected] * cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb[1-6]/power/autosuspend_delay_ms [now shows -1000 - (was previously 0) ] but the problem still occurs. 4. Repeated the above GRUB change with the parameter 'autosuspend_delay_ms' rather than 'autosuspend'. * ls /sys/module/usbcore/parameters [shows an 'autosuspend' parameter but not an 'autosuspend_delay_ms' parameter] * sudo modinfo usbcore [shows: parm: autosuspend:default autosuspend delay (int)] * cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb[1-6]/power/autosuspend_delay_ms [now shows 0] but the problem still occurs. In all cases I still get the same five 'device removed' messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log as originally reported, and the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive after a few minutes idle time.
[Bug 1912670] [NEW] Mouse buttons and keyboard unresponsive after idle time
Public bug reported: If I leave my desktop (Xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, Xfce xfdesktop4 4.14.2-1, Xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14) idle for a few minutes, the mouse buttons and most keyboard presses become unresponsive. My "system power saving" setting is disabled (set to "never") and "display power management" is set to blank after 15 minutes, but the problem seems to occur sooner than that. Unplugging and re-inserting the mouse after a few seconds has no effect. The only keystrokes that have any effect are Ctrl+Alt+F1 for a terminal session (where I can type normally). Returning to the desktop with Ctrl+Alt+F7 the mouse and keyboard remain unresponsive as before. This occurs with kernel 5.4.0-62, and I also installed the 5.4.0-26 kernel and the problem happens with that too. When I reboot the machine everything works fine again, but after a few minutes of idle time, the same problem occurs again. I've only noticed the problem occurring in the last ~2-3 weeks. When I leave a terminal window open on the desktop running the command: tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log and allow lots of time for the problem to occur, no lines are appended in the terminal even after the problem has happened, but when I then use Ctrl+Alt+F1 and log in at the terminal console, the following additional lines appear in /var/log/xorg.0.log : [ 3805.283] (II) event1 - Power Button: device removed [ 3805.296] (II) event0 - Power Button: device removed [ 3805.312] (II) event3 - Logitech USB Optical Mouse: device removed [ 3805.344] (II) event4 - Eee PC WMI hotkeys: device removed [ 3805.364] (II) event2 - AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: device removed ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-62.70-generic 5.4.78 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-62-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.14 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip Date: Thu Jan 21 16:37:48 2021 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 730] [10de:1287] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 1049450] Re: Fails trying to hide the xfce4-panel panel 1
Srinivas, just for completeness, you may want to compare with my panel settings, which are: Mode: Horizontal (YES) Lock Panel (YES) Automatically show and hide the panel (NO) Don't reserve space on borders Row Size (pixels): 32 Number of rows: 1 Length (%): 100 (YES) Automatically increase the length and my panel is located at the top edge of the screen. Note that the tooltip help for the "Automatically show and hide the panel" checkbox says "This only works when the panel is attached to a screen edge", so try unlocking your panel then moving it to make sure its location snaps to a screen edge (and then lock your panel again). However, the screen edge can be a problem if you're using a television for your display (e.g. for a Home Theatre PC), as these often overscan (i.e. the edges of your desktop are beyond the edges of the display). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049450 Title: Fails trying to hide the xfce4-panel panel 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-panel/+bug/1049450/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 511312] Re: [Upstream] Draw omits x importing svg
Tested in 3.4.4 (build:402) and the problem persists. Tested in 3.5.0beta2... the graphic seems to be rendered correctly (open path, x in the correct position). However I don't recall seeing the Break option in the right-click context menu to break the object into its individual component parts for editing (I no longer have the 3.5.0beta2 installation available to verify this, but can confirm this option is present in 3.4.4). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511312 Title: [Upstream] Draw omits x importing svg To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/511312/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 815419] [NEW] Unable to disable wireless on Toshiba NB520
Public bug reported: Unable to disable the Atheros AR9285 internal wireless networking adapter of the Toshiba NB520 netbook. The Fn+F8 keystroke is unresponsive (but works correctly when booted in Windows 7). The ath9k kernel modules does not appear to provide any parameters to toggle the enabled/disabled state. The toshiba_acpi kernel module fails with a fatal error no such device. The omnibook kernel module does have a wifi enabledisable parameter, but the module fails to load. Blacklisting the ath9k (and toshiba_bluetooth) kernel modules partially disables the wireless, but the radio is still on (consuming battery unnecessarily and prohibiting use of the machine in wifi-restricted areas such as hospitals). Further details also at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1805187 Ideally the Fn+F8 keystroke would be fully functional. Failing that, a means of fully disabling the wireless radio (and re-enabling it without needing to reboot) would be an adequate workaround. [Bug 577493] Re: various dialog box contents not displayed
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: openoffice.org In OpenOffice Calc, various pop-up dialog boxes are displayed as an empty frame with no contents. This happens with the Insert Sheet..., Rename Sheet..., Move/Copy Sheet... dialogs from the pop-up menu obtained by right-clicking the tab where the sheet's name appears. It also happens with the Zoom View Layout dialog from the View - Zoom... menu, and furthermore this is also the case with this dialog in the OpenOffice Presentation and Writer applications. This only happens with some dialog boxes, while others appear to be displayed correctly. In all cases it is possible to display the missing contents of the dialog box by performing a shade and then unshade (or similarly a maximise/unmaximise) from the corresponding buttons on the dialog windows title bar. The problem has also been re-created on a second machine (also running the same versions, Xubuntu v10.04 and OpenOffice3.2.0). The problem is still the same as originally reported. No virtual machines, just a regular Xubuntu 10.10 installation on hardware, fully up-to-date with updates. OpenOffice reports the following version: OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 OOO320m19 (Build:9505) ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Ubuntu package 1:3.2.1-7ubuntu1 A separate hardware machine running Xubuntu 10.04 (with all updates) behaves correctly and does not have this problem. The OpenOffice version details on this machine are: OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483) ooo-build 3.2.0.10, Debian 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 The two apport information items preceding this post are from these two respective machines. [Bug 490410] Re: Application window does not resize correctly
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: openoffice.org When resizing the main application window, it does not resize correctly. In particular, when the top or left boundaries of the window are used to perform the resizing, the application's title-bar, main menu and icons are not redrawn correctly and become inaccessible. Steps to reproduce: 1) From the Applications menu, start one of the OpenOffice applications (Word Processor, Spreadsheet or Presentation). 2) Attempt to resize the window by dragging the top or left edge of the application window (you may need to click the application window's (un)maximise button (top right, next to the X for closing the window) to allow resizing). What I expect to happen: The application's layout (including the title-bar, main menu and icons) should be adjusted and re-drawn dynamically as the application is resized, and then finally when the resize operation is complete. What happens instead: The application's layout is not adjusted, and the title-bar, main menu and/or icons become inaccessible. WORKAROUND: Right-click on the application in the panel at the bottom of the screen, and choose Maximise from the pop-up menu... then repeat and choose unmaximise. The application is redrawn correctly in it's new size. (This does not work with Minimise - Unminimise). [Bug 490410] Re: Application window does not resize correctly
I just discovered that installing the openoffice.org-gtk package in Xubuntu somewhat resolves the problem, but it gives the whole spreadsheet contents a faded appearance (black text appears grey - screenshot attached) which is not good. Perhaps this gives a clue to the root of the original problem though. I have also updated the upstream bug http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6326 ** Attachment added: OOcalc on Xubuntu with/without openoffice.org-gtk installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfwm4/+bug/490410/+attachment/1734558/+files/oocalc_compare.png -- Application window does not resize correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 666256] [NEW] Data pilot value selection with (empty) is sort-dependent
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org In a Data Pilot, when (de)selecting values of a particular field (with the tick-boxes), sometimes the wrong values are (de)selected. In particular, this happens when the (empty) value is present, and appears to be sort-order dependent. In the attached example Pilot_bug.ods: 1) go to the sheet DataPilot_Sheet1_1 2) Click the down-arrow icon of the Category field (cell A4) and choose Sort Descending 3) Click the down-arrow icon of the Category field (cell A4) and deselect the third value (the blank one representing empty) The expected behaviour should be to remove the (empty) value from the category field, displaying only the Fruit, Spices and Vegetables categories. Instead what happens is that the Vegetables value is removed, and the (empty) category remains displayd (along with the Spices and Fruit categories). This behaviour persists with subsequent attempts to (de)select fields using the tick-boxes. The problem also occurs when a custom sort list is used. Only when Sort Ascending is selected can the fields be selected correctly. Finally, if the empty value is entered in the originating data and the data pilot is refreshed (e.g. enter Nuts in Sheet1 cell A8, and choose the DataPilot's refresh manu option) the new value is not recognised for (de)selection or in any ascending/descending sorts. [Bug 593405] [NEW] OpenOffice Calc crashes on delete Data Pilot table
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org OpenOffice Calc crashes when deleting a table created by the Data Pilot. Steps to reproduce: 1) Load the attached minimal example spreadsheet into OpenOffice Calc. 2) Right-click on the Data Pilot table and from the popup menu choose Delete... The problem was reproduced on another Xubuntu10.04 machine, but did not reproduce with OpenOffice3.2 running on a Microsoft Windows 2000 machine. When attempting to remove the table by deleting the corresponding columns of the spreadsheet, the table appears to have been deleted without crashing, but: b) when trying to enter data into the cells where the table used to be, an information popup appears saying You cannot change this part of the Data Pilot table. b) when right-clicking on the cells where the table used to be, the Data Pilot popup menu still appears (and choosing Delete... from this menu still crashes the application) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: openoffice.org 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.36-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Jun 13 20:21:36 2010 InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: openoffice.org ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- OpenOffice Calc crashes on delete Data Pilot table https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/593405 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 577493] [NEW] various dialog box contents not displayed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org In OpenOffice Calc, various pop-up dialog boxes are displayed as an empty frame with no contents. Both machines have the NVidia proprietary driver, but when this driver is deactivated the problem still persists. Regarding the other bug, I don't think it's the same... I've tried obscuring/revealing OpenOffice application windows and they seem to redraw themselves fine under those circumstances. I only get the redraw problem when I specifically resize the application from the top/left edges. I've not been able to reproduce the problem in any other applications besides OpenOffice (including Firefox, GIMP, Inkscape, Rosegarden, Audacity, Ardour, NetBeans, Synaptic Package Manager). -- Application window does not resize correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 490410] [NEW] Application window does not resize correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org When resizing the main application window, it does not resize correctly. Workarounds: Right-click on the application in the panel at the bottom of the screen, and choose Maximise from the pop-up menu... then repeat and choose unmaximise. The application is redrawn correctly in it's new size. (This does not work with Minimise - Unminimise). [Bug 482268] [NEW] connector loses track of position
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org When manipulating connectors in OpenOffice Draw, the connectors sometimes lose track of their position on the page and can't be selected. For example, in a blank OpenOffice Draw document: 1) create a connector (anywhere on the page) unattached to any objects. 2) move one of the connector's end-points (such that the connector's bounding box changes) 3) click on a blank part of the page to deselect the connector. 4) now try to click on the connector to select it. At this point the connector refuses to be selected except by dragging a selection rectangle which encloses its *previous* bounding-box (i.e. before its end-point was moved at step 2). The connector seems to think it's still at the old location on the page. This also occurs when one of the connector's end-points is connected to an object. In this case the connector's geometry is correctly updated after that object is moved.
