[Bug 224985] Re: firefox-3.0, not saving history or bookmarks, the navigations buttons (foward, back, etc) does not work
I haven't followed through this whole thread in detail, but fwiw I had a problem in firefox 3.0.8 on Ubuntu 8.10 on an XO (OLPC) laptop not saving bookmarks across restart (history and other prefs were fine), and I solved it with the details here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/225257/comments/28 -- firefox-3.0, not saving history or bookmarks, the navigations buttons (foward, back, etc) does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 225257] Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 not saving normal or live bookmarks
I was experiencing the same problem. Ubuntu 8.10 on an XO (OLPC) laptop. I had reported it here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7040160#post7040160 And another user echoed the same problem as well on a DellE520, ff3.0.8, jaunty. I tried gregory's suggestion. The short answer is that it was bookmarkbackups that was the problem. This was a pretty much new install/config (I noticed nearly right away that bookmarks weren't working -- I had never been able to successfully save a single one after a restart), so I still think there is some kind of bug in terms of why did this happen, although it's nice to have a fairly simple workaround. [Bug 356768] [NEW] ath5k driver hangs periodically, please include trivial patch in kernel
Public bug reported: Precisely as the title says - I have the ath5k non-LBM driver in use, on latest Jaunty, amd64, 2.6.28-11-generic, and I periodically have the problems described on bugzilla.kernel.org's bug #12068. There has been a patch available for ~4 months, which is approximately 10 lines all told, and simply adds sanity checks to the reset call in the driver which causes the problem. It's worked for me for four months, and I've been adding it by hand. Intending no disrespect here to the developers, I am less than happy about the apparent decision not to try to fix this bug in Intrepid. Also, the conflicting reports regarding the nature and extent of this bug -- people saying the bug appears and goes away for no apparent reason, people disagreeing on whether fixes work for them or not, etc. -- suggest to me that the problem still might not be fully understood, and that this isn't a good time to abandon groups of users yet. -- [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264196 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 337040] Re: [LENOVO ThinkPad T61] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]
Came here to report a similar problem. The machine comes back from hibernate sometimes (modulo a bug in the ath5k driver). The machine always "comes back" from suspend, but the graphics never come back up - I can switch VTs using Ctrl-Alt-F[1-7] appropriately, and I can tell it's switching because the Caps and Num Lock lights vary by VT (e.g. if I set Caps Lock on VT1 and then switch to VT6, the light goes off, and comes back again if I switch back to VT1), but nothing ever displays on the LCD. I can reproduce this endlessly. I just suspend and try to resume. Easy as pie. This user has a Quadro 140M, and I have a Quadro 270M. (T61 vs T61p). Apport just kicked me over here to file this bug, though, so I'm reasonably certain it's valid. [Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust
Gumby, the builtin keyboard on a laptop is hooked up (internally) to the computer the same way as an external PS/2-style keyboard would be. This explains why the workaround (with a "kbdrate" command) fixes your laptop's internal keyboard. Wolfwitch, when you say that the "kbdrate" workaround works for you "when using any keyboard", are you trying this with both PS/2 and USB keyboards? If this workaround fixes a USB keyboard, I think that's news. And I'm having a hard time, too, accepting that this bug is too hard to fix quickly. -- [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264196 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

And everyone should note that this issue also applies to desktops, since most keyboards nowadays use USB (and may or may not come with one of those purple USB-to-PS/2 keyboard adapters). [Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust
As best I can tell, this "kbdrate" command DOES NOT WORK AT ALL on my system (Intrepid, 2.6.27-11-generic). I have a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard (configured in Keyboard Preferences as a "Generic 105-key (Intl) PC" model), which I've tried connecting to my desktop both via its native USB connector and via a purple adapter to the PS/2 keyboard jack. I've tried "kbdrate -r 4 -d 750", both in /etc/rc.local and in a terminal window, but I still get a much faster keyboard autorepeat no matter what I do. The xorg.conf workaround also DOES NOT WORK AT ALL for me. I am most definitely not a novice, but I fully agree with "Gumby" that this is a critical bug for novices. Even if one of the workarounds we've been discussing did happen to work, it is not acceptable to expect a newbie to type a command in a terminal window (much less edit a configuration file) even ONCE -- to say nothing of doing it every time they restart or log in. -- [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264196 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 302485] Re: No persistence with USB Creator in Ubuntu 8.10
I repro the "no persistence" on several separate ubuntu machines. I don't recall the attempts to write making the stick unbootable though. Was using a 4GB corsair, freshly formatted fat32. ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 AMD64. I maxed out the persistence file size for my stick (about 3.1 GB). usb-creator proceeded to write the iso to the disk but at the end a small window with a red warning circle with a white horizontal line appeared. There was no text message. I closed that out & rebooted. It booted into the live system properly. I created a small text file on the desktop and one in / . neither one persisted through a subsequent clean reboot. As a test I later manually created a casper-rw file in the root of my usb stick (there was not one present) and persistence started working. I see the casper packages are not a dependency of the usb-creator package. Lupine: do you have them installed? I do not. there's a thread over at ubuntu forums where several people report problems w/ persistence: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1077904 -- No persistence with USB Creator in Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

And the "pam-keyring-tool" workaround didn't work for me either. I was still being prompted for the login password. [Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins
Not for me, it doesn't. I upgraded a new Hardy system to Intrepid today, and it's started demanding "Enter login password to unlock keyring" after doing an autologin. It wasn't doing that in 8.04.1 before I did the upgrade. This new system was going to be for my mother, who is not very computer- savvy at all. I was hoping to convert her computer from Windows XP to Ubuntu, but a crucial part of that plan was that the new system was going to use autologin and timed login so she wouldn't ever need to enter a password. (It's her home system, and she lives alone, so the security risk of autologin is acceptable -- and I'll do all the software updates and such which would require an admin password or "sudo".) This seemed to be working just fine when I initially installed 8.04.1, but upgrading to 8.10 broke it. This is a SHOWSTOPPER. Unless I can get rid of this prompt to "unlock the keyring", my mom simply WILL NOT ACCEPT this awkward new system and will insist on keeping her Windows system. (Or else I guess I'll have to wipe the new disk, reinstall Hardy, and set up everything all over again from scratch WITHOUT upgrading to Intrepid.) -- libpam-keyring broken on autologins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137247 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155415] Re: Thunderbird freezes on dual core system
Hi, John -- Thanks for your comments. I tried changing the way I launch Thunderbird. Instead of invoking the executable directly, I am now exec'ing it from a shell script that captures any output into a log file. After I did this, Thunderbird courteously obliged by freezing :-}, and I got the following error: *** glibc detected *** /home/richw/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin: malloc(): memory corruption: 0xaad841a0 *** plus a backtrace and a memory map, which I'm including here as an attachment. Since this is my production work environment, I really can't "disable all plugins/addons/extensions" without creating what, for me, would be an unusable setup. [Bug 286905] Re: contact crash in calendar after update kde 3.5.10
I am not one of the people to report the original crash, but I do see a crash using Korganizer (within Kontact) when I have enabled a Google calendar in read-only mode. I believe that this is the same problem that Andreas has reproduced. The crash report is attached, and it looks very similar. My steps to reproduce this problem (note that this started occurring with kde 3.5.10; I had done the same steps previously with kde 3.5.9 without a crash): 1) Open kontact, switch to calendar 2) "Enable" a Google calendar by checking the checkbox in the Resource View 3) Scroll the calendar window. On scrolling the calendar window, kontact/korganizer will crash. It's interesting to note that I can no longer even disable the Google calendar in the Resource View by clicking on the checkbox. Attempting to click anywhere in the korganizer view seems to crash kontact in the same way. I've disabled this resource by ~/.kde/share/config/kresources/calendar/stdrc by hand and setting ResourceIsActive=false for the Google calendar. The most recent change to my system was to install kdepim-dbg and valgrind. I will attempt to attach a valgrind report to another comment. ** Attachment added: "kontact.kcrash" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18891079/kontact.kcrash -- contact crash in calendar after update kde 3.5.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No, I haven't been having this problem for several months now. I'm currently running 8.04 (2.6.24-21-generic) -- same video card and monitors, still Xinerama -- and the cursor works just fine on both monitors. I don't remember exactly when the problem went away, but I think it would probably have been after I upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy. Sorry I forgot to come back here and update the bug report at the time. And FWIW, I never had this problem on my home machine (where I'm using an Nvidia card and Twinview -- something I don't have the option of doing on my work desktop). -- Xinerama cursor problem in second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163482 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 285737] Re: synaptic package manager crashes in ubuntu 8.10 beta
The problem is not one particular package--the program freezes when I type the letter "o" in the search criteria. If I begin to type "compiz"-- as soon as I type "co" Synaptic freezes; if I want to type "fonts" as soon as I type "fo" it freezes. Every time I have to do a forced quit. Maybe I just have to reinstall Synaptic Package Manager because it has become useless for any program that has an "o" in the name.
