[Bug 2070326] Re: Unable to Disable ChaCha20-Poly1305 Encryption to Mitigate Terrapin SSH Attack
It sounds like you're encountering difficulties in disabling the ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption cipher to mitigate the Terrapin SSH attack. Your approach to modify the SSH configuration files and restart the SSH daemon seems correct. Here are a few additional steps and considerations based on your report: Steps to Reproduce: Edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/anti-terrapin-attack.conf to include Ciphers -. Edit /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d/anti-terrapin-attack.conf similarly. Restart the SSH daemon using systemctl restart sshd. Check the available ciphers using ssh -Q cipher. Expected Behavior: The ChaCha20-Poly1305 cipher should be disabled and should not appear in the list of available ciphers after the configuration changes and SSH daemon restart. Actual Behavior: Despite making the changes and restarting SSH, the ChaCha20-Poly1305 cipher continues to be listed among the available ciphers. Additional Information: Could you please provide the operating system version and SSH version you are using? It would also be helpful to see the output of ssh -Q cipher before and after making the configuration changes. Any relevant logs or error messages from /var/log/auth.log or SSH logs might provide clues. Resolution Attempted: You've already tried editing the SSH configuration files and restarting the SSH daemon, which is the correct approach. Impact: The persistence of the ChaCha20-Poly1305 cipher poses a security risk, leaving the system vulnerable to the Terrapin SSH attack. Next Steps: Investigate if there are additional steps or configuration parameters needed to effectively disable the cipher. Consider consulting SSH documentation or community forums for insights into similar issues reported by others. If you have any updates or further details, please share them. We're here to help troubleshoot and find a resolution. I just upgraded my xubuntu box to 21.04 as well with a very similar problem. In my case the message is "error: sparse file not allowed" and a second later "Press any key to continue...". The image is now properly added to Budgie Control Center and can selected as a background + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + * It is possible that gnome-desktop thumbnail creator provided additional functionality or handled a wider range of images than GdkPixbuf. + * Mitigating factors are that this is very specific to the Budgie desktop, and it only directly impacts users who set wallpapers. 1. I have deleted the card0 file and restarted my machine. I still experience the same slowdown using wayland, but not when logging in with x11. The effects are still evident when opening a folder with nautilus, when navigating the system settings, and when choosing a download location for a file in Chrome, for example. 2. I include the journal.txt file you requested 3. Neither gnome-shell nor any other process has been observed to use higher than 12% cpu while experiencing the issue 4. The information about my system drivers was obtained by going to the system Settings app, then System > About > System Details > Copy. The nvidia-utils-545 driver had to be installed when I reinstalled ubuntu and upgraded to 24.04 beta recently, to make the graphics work properly. [Bug 2062082] [NEW] 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem
Public bug reported: Apologies if I have misfiled this bug - this is a report of an issue affecting Wayland in Ubuntu 24.04 beta. Using 24.04 beta logging in with Wayland. Nautilus has very significant performance issues. Doesn't happen when logging in with Xorg instead of Wayland. Opening Nautilus windows - including normal windows navigation, and the file download location dialogue in things like Chrome - extremely slow. Takes approx. 10 seconds to process user double clicking to open folder. Attempting to drag folder across screen usually doesn't work, or takes a very long time. Not very skilled at debugging, but programmes like Gimp, which has its own built-in folder explorer for choosing a location to save an image, do not have this problem. Ubuntu 24.04 with X does not have this problem. No performance issues have been noticed with folder navigation, stat'ing files etc. over the command line. It is only nautilus and Wayland that give me this issue, so I suspect it is not an issue with my SSD. The following output was observed when starting nautilus over the command line: /home/me/ $ nautilus . ** Message: 23:43:50.560: Connecting to org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen After approx. 10 seconds, the folder opened on screen. I double clicked on a sub directory, and it took about 9 seconds to open. I have attempted to show that this is not an issue with my SSD here: /home/me/ $ date; cd workspace/; touch foo.txt; ls foo*; cd ../; date; Wed Apr 17 11:58:16 PM BST 2024 foo.txt Wed Apr 17 11:58:16 PM BST 2024 As you can see, no unusual slowdown was observed. Obtaining the following setting for my bug report, I note that the 'Settings' GUI utility is among the areas affect by my very significant system slowdown. [Bug 2048808] Re: (don't) MIR aiohttp
I'm an aiohttp maintainer, so let me know if there's any questions or things we can help with. Just to clarify a couple of points though: - python3-typing-extensions is not needed on Python 3.11+ - python3-async-timeout is not needed on Python 3.12+ (and I suspect we'll deprecate the library itself too). So, if you're only concerned about more recent Ubuntu releases, they could be skipped. aiohttp 3.10 however, will have 1 new dependency aiohappyeyeballs (though this will hopefully be temporary as we'd hope for the code to be upstreamed to Python later). All of the dependencies are fairly small though and have never had any security issues I'm aware of. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2048808 Title: (don't) MIR aiohttp To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-aiohttp/+bug/2048808/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2055430] Re: curses input box with mouse-support enters test 588 589 whenever terminal window focus changes
The fix for my application is to add: $cui->set_binding( sub { }, "588" ); $cui->set_binding( sub { }, "589" ); I provide this as a workaround. it suggests that 588 and 589 are to new KEY_* values that are perhaps merely not-handled but now-should-be in libcurses-ui-perl engine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055430 Title: curses input box with mouse-support enters test 588 589 whenever terminal window focus changes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcurses-ui-perl/+bug/2055430/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1976563] [NEW] All text and images in Gnome Shell are corrupted
Public bug reported: See attached screenshot. The corrupted text and images are only appearing in the Ubuntu desktop environment (like the login screen, dock, and the bar at top of the screen). I restarted my PC again and it is still stuck on the low resolution. This Ask Ubuntu answer (https://askubuntu.com/a/1167437/1589552) did allow me to force my resolution to 1920x1080, but a few things still seemed off: - The display settings page in the Gnome settings app still showed my display as "unknown display" and did not have any options for changing the resolution. - A WebGL-based application I use for work was very slow compared to normal. I reverted the change to my Grub config and now I'm back to 1024x768. I have an Nvidia GTX 1060 connected to a 1920x1080 monitor via HDMI. Let me know of any other information I can provide that would be helpful. Also let me know if there is a workaround other than reinstalling the OS. + Edit: I have a Windows dual boot on this PC, with Windows installed on a + separate SSD. I booted into Windows and everything seems completely + fine. Let me know of any other information I can provide that would be helpful. Also let me know if there is a workaround other than reinstalling the OS. [Bug 1970808] [NEW] Stuck on "Click or press any key" screen after resuming from suspend
Public bug reported: After suspending my PC, sometimes when I resume, I get stuck on the lock screen which shows the current time and says "Click or press any key". No matter which mouse button or key I press, the screen is frozen. The mouse cursor is displayed but does not move. It seems to occur more frequently when my computer has been suspended for at least several hours. I would say this issue occurs about 50% of the time (very roughly speaking). [Bug 1965651] [NEW] ubiquity crash stops the installation of kubuntu 22.04
Public bug reported: I created a boot-able USB using Kubuntu 21.10 and the package startup disk creator. [Bug 25830]
Encountered this bug today trying to get a plaintext format (with the mime type `application/`) to display as plaintext in the browser rather than Open With > Firefox (and opening a new window.) Is there still no workaround for enabling this type of functionality, even by modifying config files in the profile? I tried messing around with `handlers.json` (the file that holds the mime type preferences set in `about:preferences` under the "Files and Applications" header) but had no luck. Some content types in `about:preferences` permit users to select "Open in Firefox" while others don't. Where is the safelist of permitted content types for this behavior? Could a simple solution to this bug be to add an `about:config` flag that would allow power users to select "Open in Firefox" for any content type? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25830 Title: Option to display file in browser, treat as text/plain To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/25830/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1943840] Re: [FFe] Update the ubuntu-desktop-minimal seed to use the firefox snap
Olivier, I am not sure what is the reasoning here. That you obviously want to land this in a non-LTS version has nothing to do with the fact the base product is not ready and that the change was announced unacceptably late here. The Flutter-based installer is a nice example. You can obviously develop something for years ánd still land it in a non-LTS. Locking out users is not just about "the deb still being available". Some people will have the snap, others the deb, and others both. If they have both I have no idea which one is run when they click the FF icon. The upgrade scenario you mention in comment #7 does not seem to be the real world case either. We just got teleported back in time, where the only way for our helpdesk to know what happens when a user calls the helpdesk, is to open a terminal and run "apt-get" and "ps aux". This is a support hell, especially at scale. Because of a non-critical move to another package format. Thank you, sir, for your very prompt reply. My bad -- I totally forgot some packages originate in Debian and trickle down to Ubuntu. I followed your advice and opened a bug there. [Bug 1929244] [NEW] redis configuration enable include fragments by default
Public bug reported: Hello, lsb_release: Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS Release:18.04 (but the issue is observed on newer releases too.) package: 5:4.0.9-1ubuntu0.2 500 Summary: Expected behaviour: configuration fragments included by default Current behavior: configuration fragments aren't included by default Longer form: Currently the redis.conf configuration file supports the "include" keyword. However, by default, nothing is included. Problems can pop up when local configuration needs to be maintained between upgrades. The upgrade mechanism will prompt for manual intervention with the configuration file, if any changes were made to it. Depending on the amount of customization done therein, this could cause a time-consuming and error-prone situation of having to merge/patch things up. Other packages, such as Apache and MySQL (for instance, amongst many others), have addressed this by providing a "conf.d"-style directory and having "include conf.d/*" type of statement in the default configuration file that's maintained by the package maintainer. This is effectively the standard approach seen nowadays in Linux. The benefit is obvious: one can simply drop their local configuration file into the provided conf.d directory and upgrade away with far fewer worries. In summary, please consider affecting the following two (or three) changes to the redis package: 1) add an empty /etc/redis/conf.d directory to the package 2) add the statement "include /etc/reds/conf.d/*" to the bottom of the official /etc/redis.conf file to serve as an override of all default settings 3) it's not clear to me whether wildcard can actually currently be specified in the include statement. If they currently cannot be specified, please patch the code to glob using the pattern specified in the include, instead of targeting an individual file. Thank you! ** Affects: redis (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: config fragment include redis -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929244 Title: redis configuration enable include fragments by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/redis/+bug/1929244/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1927100] [NEW] Slow file dialogs, open and save
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu Mate 20.04. Sometime the Open and Save dialogs in GTK applications will over 20 seconds to display. I found https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/485 , which suggested this due to gvfsd-trash, and running `killall gvfsd-trash` which does temporary solve the problem. [Bug 1926487] [NEW] 3D graphics artifact / glitch
Public bug reported: The recent 5.8.0-49 update and also the 5.8.0-50 show a 3d graphics glitch. The problem was not present in 5.8.0-48. [Bug 1919070] Re: Unstable and frequent crashes kernel 5.4.0-66-generic on ASUS E201NAS (5.4.0-65-generic is good)
