John (and anyone else affected), We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that time. I cannot reproduce this issue using Ubuntu 18.04 and Thunderbird 60.2. "Move new junk messages to" applies to messages that are automatically determined to be junk. From your STR, there is no training, hence no messages can be determined to be junk. So. We have a bug that is a year old, renders junk functionality useless and is still present in latest version. As Kent pointed out in comment 5 we need steps to reproduce. Here they are: 1. Create new profile 2. Start TB and create POP account using startup wizard (uncheck "use TB as default mail client") 3. Let TB download all mail 4. Enable "move new junk messages to" 5. Mark message as junk -> message is flagged but not moved This happens regardless if executed in safe mode or not. I've followed all hints on

I've also manually hacked the junk folder settings into the prefs.js as
the TB UI didn't let me set them:

Still- not working, however settings are now displayed in TB UI at
least. This sucks :(

I have the same problem. I am using Thunderbird 5.0. But this has been a problem for years. Marking a message as junk in Inbox using the junk icon does not move it to the junk folder. But the reverse works, i.e. marking a message as "no junk" in the junk box moves it back to the Inbox. I'm seing the same problem with Local Folders used as Global Inbox for a bunch of Pop accounts. In additional, while "Enable adaptive junk controls" is checked, I'm unable to select a folder to move the junk to (neither for Local Folders not for any of the pop accounts). I had the same problem on a fresh Ubuntu 11.04 installation (while I had no problems on another computer which was upgraded ). In comment 3, however, STR stated that neither -safe-mode nor a new profile helped. I wonder if this is an IMAP related? I had similar issues previously with GMail when I first swapped over to using GMail via IMAP. I have seen similar reports to those of the reporter in the past, that junk mail does not move, frequently with unknown cause. In fact bug 487610, which the reporter states as causing a regression here, fixed one such case (where adaptive controls were not enabled.) Looking at that patch, I don't see any likely changes that would cause the regression described by the reporter. Reporter has also not described the kinds of tests that would be needed to confirm that his symptom is indeed a regression of that bug. What is needed to fix these kinds of issues is a clear set of steps to reproduce. The steps given in comment 0 are incomplete, as I can do those and not see the bug. Really the STR needs to start from a fresh profile, but I would expect that with a fresh profile the reporter would not be able to reproduce the bug. So these problems I suspect occur as a consequence of a particular order of enabling features and manipulating folders. If we had a clear STR of a particular sequence that caused this issue, we might be able to fix it. Public bug reported: when Thunderbird finds spam when grabbing email it will move it into the junk folder, if i mark a message ass junk it stays in the inbox. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Thunderbird 2. Download your emails 3. Mark a message as junk 4. Message does not move Expected: It should move the message to junk folder. I have it set to move them to junk folder. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Thunderbird 2. Download your emails 3. Mark a message as junk 4. Message does not move Expected: It should move the message to junk folder.
