The only solution I've found is to install the madwifi-ng drivers, if someone wants to try. sudo su apt-get install subversion cd /usr/src # NOTE= or wherever you want to download the drivers source svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk madwifi tar cfvz madwifi.tgz cd madwifi make make install echo blacklist ath5k /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo ath_pci /etc/modules modprobe ath_pci Notice than installing this, will blacklist the ath5k driver so if you want to revert you'll need to delete it from blacklist.conf and remove ath_pci from modules. Also, if the driver is installed you'll see a new entry in jockey-gtk and it will ask you to reboot to apply the new driver. So it appears that it goes really really slow for a while and then finally kicks in. I think it might be a router incompatibility issue, because with a different router (still wireless N+) it worked fine. Hi, I have this same issue on an ASUS U30J since yesterday. I can't find any upgrades yesterday or the day before that are related in any way to wireless, unless you count chromium, and I am not even using chromium. I have been using Natty via dist upgrade from 10.10 for several weeks now, and the problem didn't show up until yesterday, so something must have changed, but I didn't do it! My WiFi card is Atheros (:P) and the driver is ath9k. Unfortunately, the workaround suggested above does not do anything at all for me, at least it didn't the one time I tried it. Have same problems on Asus UL30VT on Natty Beta 2 64 (last updates 16.04). Internet connecton is very slow around 126 kB to 1100 kB. I have a 16000kbits line. Same with a zotac zbox hd-id11. To me it seems this is a problem with the intel chipsets used on atom boards. Also very interesting, slow speed is limited to a connection. so singlethreaded I'm loading from a university site with 50 kb/s and multithreaded multiplied with the amount of threads(5 threads 200 kb, tested with firefox, original download manager and downthemall addin). in the evening I'll try wpasupplicant instead of network-manager. On my last upgrade (apt-get upgrade) to Natty beta1, many issues on the desktop were fixed but I totally lost my wireless connection. I can't even detect any wireless networks as shown in the screen shot. Hello, This also affects me. I have a Samsung N220 netbook. On Lucid it works perfectly, but on Natty I get really slow connection, even though the bars appear to be fine. Sure, often the best advice for the bios is to leave it alone unless it's a problem. I had various issues, and updated numerous times. Currently I'm at 1902 (or 1903). If you find this really irritating, and it's not fixed for you, I'd consider flashing an updated bios. You should be able to get them from Asus's site. Good luck. My Eee 901 is of the kind originally sold with Xandros and with the 16+4 GB SSD. The BIOS is revision 1703. I have the Eee 901 as well, and I've experienced some wireless issues too. I have had the problem of losing my connection entirely when I detach the power cord and run on battery. The workaround that seems to work for me is first to disable wireless networking with Fn+F2, detach the power cord, and after this enable wireless again with Fn+F2. Wow, that's very strange Timo, have tested it on 2 separate installs in my eeepc 901, and neither is an issue. Which bios version are you running, and is it (originally) the Linux or Windoze version of the eeepc 901? I recall there was some very weird behaviour with some of the bios versions... Re wireless, this has been increasingly hard to troubleshoot. Seems to work for awhile, then slows to a crawl. The way to 'fix' it seems to be turning the wireless off via the keyboard shortcut Timo used, Fn+F2, then back on again the same way. Seems to be working... then sometimes it's not. Any advice on what to troubleshoot, and when? Will try these commands next time I notice difficulties: iwconfig wlan0 nm-tool Also, what's the wpasupplicant, and how do I use it? Cheer. Please test with using wpasupplicant directly to see if the network is then showing up properly. Alternatively, you could try to reconnect the the wireless network, then once connected get the output of the following commands: iwconfig wlan0 nm-tool It would be best if this was all done in the best possible situations for wireless: with a clear line of sight, and as close to the AP as possible (within reason).
