Hello Maarteen, thanks, it worked for me! Now I only have to figure out how to set the character set to german again... [Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
Hello Chen, Works for me! Thanks!! Just one (small) addition: So to fix this, add with superuser permissions hid_logitech_dj to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules instead of /etc/initramfs/modules. For example: sudo su gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules Then do sudo update-initramfs -k all -u And then reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998651 Title: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/998651/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
Maarten, thanks for all your work - your youtube video gave me the clue that it had something to do with certain modules not loaded during bootup. How do we get what we've found out into the distro? When I tried using kubuntu 12.04 live CD, the keyboard doesn't respond during the bootup process either. [Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
Found the answer: In kernel 3.2 and 3.4 (but not 3.0), the module hid_logitech_dj is needed for full support of the unifying receiver. This module is not loaded into the ramdisk for our keyboards to work during the bootup process. I'm surprised that this bug hasn't been more prominent. So to fix this, add with superuser permissions hid_logitech_dj to /etc/initramfs/modules. Then do sudo update-initramfs -k all -u Reboot. Note that this bug exists in 3.2 and upstream 3.4. My first bug! Now what happens?

No, I didn't find a sloution yet. I didn't install the mainline builds (had no time to do, pretty busy with other things), but thanks that you did K. Chen. [Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
I tried the mainline builds. The same problem still exists. Other things I've tried - reinstall plymouth, plymouth-theme-kubuntu, plymouth-theme-kubuntu-text. I get the feeling that this is more of a configuration issue. As the original posts have mentioned, USB support does exist after decrypting the hard drive. [Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-precise/ ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998651 Title: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/998651/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
I have the exact same problem and I have not found a solution yet. We both did 11.10 to 12.04 upgrades (in my case, I used kubuntu-alternate), we both use logitech unifying receiver/keyboards. I am able to successfully enter my password and boot into linux when I used a kernel from 11.10 (linux-image-3.0.0-19-generic). I've tried reinstalling the kernels, grub2, and update-initramfs.
