[Bug 169147] Re: Inkscape crashes when importing a PDF file

2009-08-26 Thread Alex Valavanis
An interesting development...

Attempting to open the file at startup (inkscape file.pdf) results in
a crash, while attempting to open the file after startup does not.

[Bug 419143] Re: [karmic, regression] Printing with HP Laserjet 4100 broken

2009-08-26 Thread Till Kamppeter
If you have CUPS 1.4.0 already, the USB problem is caused by a new USB
CUPS backend. For this backend the usblp kernel module must be
unloaded.

Edit /etc//etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf adding a line

blacklist usblp

and then run the command

sudo rmmod usblp

Now CUPS should see your USB printers again.

[Bug 408615] Re: libasound_module_conf_pulse.so is missing from lib32asound-plugins

2009-08-26 Thread stereoit
2 Søren Holm, I think today I had this partial-dist-upgrade which
replaced libasound2 packages so I guess until 2 weeks ago you have used
older version of that package which included the
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so.

Since today I had the same problem. Temporarily I've moved /usr/lib32
/alsa-lib to /usr/lib32/alsa-lib.disabled and unpacked
libasound2-plugins_1.0.20-1ubuntu6_i386
[http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29924427/libasound2-plugins_1.0.20-1ubuntu6_i386.deb]
to be /usr/lib32/alsa-lib. Dirty solution but it seems to help.

I hope guys manage to build this 32 bit version including this
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so as it will block all skype users until
then.

The fact that two of you have started seeing this within the past few

look very close to Kyle's (with the invalid looking date 222-22MM-

Thank you,

[Bug 419099] Re: Please remove fai source package and all resulting binary packages from karmic

2009-08-26 Thread Stephan Hermann
well,

we discussed it with Thomas on #fai...

And we have only one possibility: remove FAI source package or nothing...cause
we don't remove single binary packages and fai-server is a result of the fai
source package.
as we have tomorrow FF and I (nor siretart) don't find the time to upload at
least a non working package to karmic, it's difficult.

Thomas wants it to be removed, and I agree here for Karmic. We could,
however, try to push some packages to FAIs uni-koeln.de archive some
packages for ubuntu, marked as very, very experimental.

Regards,

PS: Or we discuss it on #...@oftc right now :)

switch of the notifications. Is it documented somewhere how one can do that?

2009-08-26 Thread Aravind Gopal
in windows partitions (which is flexible) i can create partition in
any name and can be monitored or analysed for usage or
representation/navigation style is also more user friendly.

friend the above one is a problem but my real problem is that during
the installation of ubuntu 9.04 i partitioned and formated nearly
onethird of the hdd capacity in ext3 file system and the mount point
was given(typed, as it wasn't in the list) as 'backup'. I created one
partition as 'User' and another one as 'Home' . apart from root and
swap.
in my system winxp is loaded in the primary partition c:. d and e are
ntfs and fat32 formated partitions.
after installation of Ubuntu , i can see but cannot use the partition
'backup'. as it is in ext3 it cannot be used from win xp either.
more over it would be useful if some tips were shown about mount
points during partitioning. such as if u create a separate home
partition ur data will not be lost if u reload/reinstall Linux again,
etc, etc.
i like free areas like in win xp.

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
while instaling ubuntu 9.04 64bit in my 780g chipset amd machine,
one of my partition formated in ext3 which i want to use as i use partitions
 in windows.
partitioning software in ubuntu installer forced me to mount it for
 partitioning in ext3.
as i don't want to mount as specified mounts such 'home', 'user' , etc. i
 gave another name 'back up'.
but after installation i cant open/use it from ubuntu or windows (as it is
 formated in ext3).

my intention was to back up the database folder (mysql/postgresql) to the
known/non predefined location, and then back up to some other location. why
linux cannot give options like the download folder in firefox or my documents
folder in open office setting to use partitions instead of pre defined mount
points to all. for eg . why user cannot be able to set the 'home folder' be a
folder 'home folder' named in D or E or F or etc. drive/partition. Not needed
 for all existing mounts.

Someone who DOESN't know what it is is a candidate for running it,
because they almost certainly want email.

  * Once knowing that you have to configure program A, how MUCH configuration
 should you
have to do to simply disable it? It should be dead simple, not first
 tell me all about you,
then I'll let you turn off a checkbox.

Strongly agreed - I'd forgotten about Evo's breakage in that regard.

If Ubuntu is going to make those decisions, and still wants to allow
users -- let's not require them to be EXPERTS -- to diverge from the
default choices, there should be a document that describes the decisions
made and how to configure the system otherwise.

Fair point, and if such a doc doesn't exist on wiki.ubuntu.com now would
be a good place to do so, and the weekly developer news would be a good
place to socialise it so that people know to add stuff there (like the
gnome strachiatella bits).

[Bug 403316] Re: dpkg: warning: obsolete option '--print-installation-architecture'

2009-08-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau -
1:0.0.10~git+20090823+569a17a-0ubuntu1

---
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (1:0.0.10~git+20090823+569a17a-0ubuntu1) karmic;
urgency=low

  * Merge package from Debian experimental. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
+ debian/control:
  - Remove mention of using module-assistant; we have a DKMS source package
  - Add dependency on quilt for our snapshot-date patch
  - Replace dependency on linux-nouveau-source virtual package. Instead
depend directly on nouveau-kernel-source. Version this depends to
ensure a compatible kernel ABI (= 0.0.15).
+ debian/rules:
  - Call patch target
  - Generate snapshot-date in get-orig-source
+ debian/patches/01_include_snapshot_date
  - Use snapshot-date included by get-orig-source to define NV_DRIVER_DATE
in configure. Helps upstream identify obsolete drivers with Xorg.log
+ debian/xsfbs/*
  - Update build-system helper from pkg-xorg. No longer uses deprecated
--print-instalation-architecture. (LP: #403316)
  * Add debian/README.source from quilt package for policy compliance.
  * New upstream snapshot.

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-08-26 Thread MarcRandolph
ah - another question: Do you all use remote frontends? If so, do you have a
real IP address set for the backend rather than 127.0.0.1?
Or did you all happen to change a configuration? Do you use EIT? Random idea:
Perhaps the format of the EIT changed, and triggers a bug in MythTV.

[Bug 419176] [NEW] Pulseaudio crashes with illegal hardware instruction

Public bug reported:

Public bug reported:

*.a usr/lib/nx/

better?

I don't use any extensions with firefox, right now i cannot create new

2009/8/26 Micah Gersten launch...@micahscomputing.com

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can
become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this
with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to
delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to
disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the
 problematic one.

But the adress is the same like last open page from this pannel. Control
buttons (back, forward, reload, stop) are blank (on all panels, pages...).
And some pages (like this to report bug or ubuntu wiki) still has an icon of
 loading page.
Thats all. I haven't got these problems before, I don't know any reason

[Bug 416646] Re: 2.0.0.23 is available

2009-08-26 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thunderbird uses the system NSS library and is not affected by the NUL
character vulnerability (it was fixed in USN-810-1). Mozilla.org also
fixed rendering crashers in 2.0.0.23 without issuing MFSA for them, so I
wrote a general advisory for them.

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-08-26 Thread Kelvinelk
The error which i get are similar in format to Kyle's. It seems to
happen mostly in the middle of the night but it has been happening for
some time, around the time that it was first reported by Kyle. It is
only recently that it seems to be getting far more frequent.

Background to my mythtv setup:

I have been running mythtv for a couple of years now, initially using
the packages that came with ubuntu, then moving to the weekly builds
from mythbuntu. I have a remote frontend and the backend sits on a
private subnet. EIT is used to collect the radio information only on
DVB-T. Tuner card is a Hauppauge Nova-T 500.

The issue always seems to occur when the backend _appears_ to be idle,
but perhaps it is actually doing some housekeeping or something in the
background? I am reluctant to start using 0.22 and wait for the bug to
occur as we record things daily and any database backup will quickly be
out of date.

For now I will try alistair's trick of turning off the jobqueue thread,
and if that doesn't work, try running backend with --nohousekeeping
also.

Work around:
Use program provided at http://linux.thaj.net63.net/. This has to be

this I have got both MythTv and XBMC to work.

[Bug 419182] [NEW] Windows 7 can not find driver for es1370 card

2009-08-26 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

Windows XP in KVM 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.3 (kernel 2.6.28-15-generic)
recognizes the Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1370 device automatically and I can
hear the audio.

On the same KVM Windows 7 (Evaluation copy, Build 7100) only detects
presence of Multimedia Audio Controller, but can not automatically
find driver software for the device. I tried to find the drivers on the
internet, to no avail. It is a bit strange that such an widespread card
does not have driver in Windows 7...

If the problem is in windows 7, then close the bug as Invalid.

[Bug 419185] [NEW] DCP135C: Displaced print / edges cut

2009-08-26 Thread Ekkehard Buth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I'm using Brother DCP135C printer with Intrepid (9.04).
Printout of OpenOffice documents is shifted about 1/4'' to the left and 3/4''
to the top. In the result the upper and the left edge are cut.
Tried to fix in system-config-printer 1.1.3. Test printout shows the same
result.
Cross checked with openSuSe 11.1 DCP135C installation: printout in SuSe correct
and unshifted. Comparison shows different Imageable Area settings:
Page SizeLower-Left Upper-Right Resolution
Ubuntu8.26x11.69 0.0x0.0 8.26x11.69 720x720
Suse7.87x11.3 0.19x0.19 8.06x11.49 600x600
verified ppd-file and both are identical (except page size setting, but this
is not the problem in this case).
Checked the bug report log of the system-config-printer help function and
found:
   'D [26/Aug/2009:13:09:37 +0200] [Job 45] *** stack smashing
detected ***: /usr/Brother/Printer/dcp135c/cupswrapper/brcupsconfpt1
terminated',
   'D [26/Aug/2009:13:09:37 +0200] [Job 45] === Backtrace:
=',
   'D [26/Aug/2009:13:09:37 +0200] [Job 45]
/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x48)[0xb8036da8]',
Seems some program crashing under way. Print continues however but is
displaced. Manage to get complete printouts with 83% scaling, but printouts are
reduced in size and white bar at page bottom.

progress dialog not show the text 0% (making it appear as though it was
doing nothing

Can this please be applied to the jockey trunk

[Bug 295414] Re: Wireless network keeps disconnecting in Intrepid

2009-08-26 Thread Saleh
I am using Jaunty 9.04 and I can confirm this behaviour. The
disconnection is random and happens most frequently when the connection
is idle (no traffic). I've removed network-manager and installed wicd.
So far, no disconnections.

I am using Acer TravelMate 3270 with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG.

[Bug 419188] [NEW] gpg-groups not usable with Seahorse

2009-08-26 Thread Mark Preetorius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Groups of keys that are defined in gpg.conf
(e.g. group mygroupname = 0xABCD9DB0 0xABCD9540)
do not show up in the choose recipient dialog, when running the encrypt
command from nautilus contextmenu, so they are unusable.

gpg itself works fine with
gpg -er mygroupname file.odt

[Bug 418509] Re: [Karmic] Hangs during shutdown

2009-08-26 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
I have one more issue because of this. Immediately after rebooting via
sysreq my system wont boot saying fsck failed and cannot start recovery
shell. And I have to reboot again, then it will check filesystem coz of
unclean shutdown and then it boots normally.
