[Bug 550040] Re: Don't work CPU fan cooling at TOSHIBA satellite U505-S2925BN in the Ubuntu 10.04 beta1

2010-03-29 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 543042] Re: pressing CANCEL in policykit super user mount dialog shows silly error message

2010-03-29 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Martin: I guess you can simply run 'sudo killall polkitd', and it will
forget your authentication.

One would have to check whether gvfs actually redirects
POLKIT_ERROR_CANCELLED to G_IO_ERROR_CANCELLED, and if so, then add it
to the ignore case in Nautilus. Or simply add that condition in
Nautilus, and see if it works! If it's not the case, it would be worth
considering canceled authentication as G_IO_ERROR_FAILED_HANDLED, which
seems to be intended for this case.

[Bug 535417] Re: mdadm monitor feature broken, not depending on local MTA/MDA or using wall/notify-send

2010-03-29 Thread ceg
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mdadm

  Anybody who cares about redundancy to use mdadm probably cares enough
  about redundancy to want being informed if redundancy is degraded.

  Debian systems do have at least local mail enabled and package mdadm
  asks for a mail address to notify during mdadm install.

  By default ubuntu system support no local mail and mdadm package was
  patched to suppress the debconf email question, without setting up mdadm
  --monitor to use wall or notify-send as an alternative.

  As informing a human is a serious data protection topic mdadm should
  depend on a package providing at least local mail services and/or use
  wall/notify-send to get the message out.
+
+ ---
+
+ The monitoring facility of mdadm is very important to get notice if
+ somthing goes wrong with your raid.
+
+ So you can replace disks etc. ahead of a total failure.
+
+ To send out notifications mdadm needs a sendmail command (MTA mail
+ transport agent ).
+
+ To deliver mail localy you need a mail delivery agent (MDA)
+
+ Things like exim, postfix open network ports and are large and not easy
+ to configure, but of course provide the sendmail command and delivery.
+
+ If none of the large MTAs is installed, yes mdadm should pull in a
+ replacement like esmtp + procmail but no postfix on desktops.

[Bug 248355] Re: Evince doesn't anti-alias graphics

2010-03-29 Thread Benjamin Humphrey
Our entire team has the same issue in Ubuntu, across Karmic and Lucid.
The fonts are okay, but the images are very jagged/not anti-aliased.

I'm not sure whether this is the same issue as what we are having so I
have posted some screenshots. If it's the same bug and it has been fixed
then that is fantastic, can't wait for it to hit main.

The PDF in question is http://ubuntu-manual.org/ubuntu-manual-draft.pdf

Our team is https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual and we're on IRC in
#ubuntu-manual on freenode.

[Bug 534040] Re: new light theme hangs for 20 seconds before desktop loads

2010-03-29 Thread Peter B P
Since the latest updates (20th March), there is still a 20+ second
'hang' before the wallpaper appears, however, now the panels do not
load, but the desktop icons do. With no panels, Lucid is essentially
unusable. Have to use ctrl-alt-delete to restart.

I can confirm that Lucid B1 with last weeks updates take a fair while to
go from sucessful login to wallpaper; Gnome-DO however appears
immediately, but no panels, desktop icons or anything else does for
10-15 seconds. When it does, everything seems to work fine however.

I'm putting this in GDM so it goes on the right path. Indicator session
just asks GDM to switch to the user. So it seems this is likely to be a
GDM bug.

what syslog was showing then and short after:

[Bug 542588] Re: Evolution wouldn´t send or r eceive mail. Starts to, and then no progress, though prompted for password and and wouldn´t take a wrong one

2010-03-29 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

  The monitoring facility of mdadm is very important to get notice if
  somthing goes wrong with your raid.

  to configure, but of course provide the sendmail command and delivery.

[Bug 550910] [NEW] Latest update makes fonts unreadable

2010-03-29 Thread Brent N.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

I am using lucid-beta-1, with all updates, on an Acer Aspire One
netbook.

The netbook-launcher fonts have become white blocks after the last
update. Up until that point they looked great.

The blocks are different sizes, according to the character, but not even
close to readable. Each character is just a single white rectangle,
approximately the size of the letter.

(note, I have adjusted my default font size to 8pt, but changing this
back to 10pt only makes the blocks bigger)

[Bug 539330] Re: GNOME Color Manager Shows in Software Center as Color Profiles

2010-03-29 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
You could override it in app-install-data-ubuntu, but that would work
only temporarily until app-install-data-ubuntu is abolished.

I'm tempted to say that if you want a program to have a markedly
different name in the menus than it does in the software catalogue,
that's a branding bug in the program.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

2010-03-29 Thread timosha
The bug is not completely resolved with the latest libgnome-keyring. I
can open one (1) password protected samba share and are prompted for
username and password. When I select remember forever gvfsd-smb hangs
with 100% CPU load when I try to open another password protected samba
share.

When I delete the key in Seahorse the whole thing starts all over again.
In noticed in Seahorse that the password is stored as use: Saved
password or login in Ubuntu 9.10 the password is store as Network
Credential with a network icon in front of the password.

Tested this on 3 machines: Thinkpad R51 R52 and HP dx2400.

Subject: [Bug 471867] Re: no audio on toshiba satellite laptop

 Hi Barry,

 Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
 release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

 If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
 Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
 gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p alsa-base 471867

 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
 be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
 issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

 Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
 upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil
 icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
 deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

 Please let us know your results.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
 inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2010-03-29 Thread Ashwin N
Confirming that I see this bug in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) too. That
is, sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config does nothing. The command
executes and returns to the prompt.

[Bug 381183] Re: mdadm assembling -but not auto assembling- after crash

2010-03-29 Thread ceg
Do you actually use the name /dev/md_d0 in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf?

Maybe you updated the superblocks to that name but not mdadm.conf.

The following will recreate a static mdadm.conf and update the initramfs
images:

# start your array manually
# cp /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf.bak
# /usr/share/mdadm/mkconf force-generate /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
# update-initramfs -k all -u

[Bug 548924] Re: aufs broken in ti-omap kernel

2010-03-29 Thread Amit Kucheria
This[1] is not an oops, but a BUG_ON() called on purpose inside the aufs
code. The function follows:

static int do_open_nondir(struct file *file, int flags)
{
int err;
aufs_bindex_t bindex;
struct file *h_file;
struct dentry *dentry;
struct au_finfo *finfo;

FiMustWriteLock(file);

err = 0;
dentry = file-f_dentry;
finfo = au_fi(file);
finfo-fi_h_vm_ops = NULL;
finfo-fi_vm_ops = NULL;
bindex = au_dbstart(dentry);
/* O_TRUNC is processed already */
BUG_ON(au_test_ro(dentry-d_sb, bindex, dentry-d_inode)
(flags  O_TRUNC));

h_file = au_h_open(dentry, bindex, flags, file);
if (IS_ERR(h_file))
err = PTR_ERR(h_file);
else {
au_set_fbstart(file, bindex);
au_set_fbend(file, bindex);
au_set_h_fptr(file, bindex, h_file);
au_update_figen(file);
/* todo: necessary? */
/* file-f_ra = h_file-f_ra; */
}
return err;
}

From the fragment, triggering the BUG_ON(), it seems to check if the
aufs file/branch is readonly and if a truncate flag is set on the file.

So my question then is, are we doing something illegal according to aufs
expectations?

Do I understand right?

It is not and alsactl problem that sound volume is set to zero during
boot.

It is instead a PulseAudio problem which only happens with this laptop
