[Bug 238908] Re: [Hardy] Shutdown through ssh or console impossible when X is running

2008-06-10 Thread Jerzy Mansarliński
Hello. Thanks for your bug report. As far as I know the default behavior of
shutdown command (without options) from upstart package is going into
single-user mode. So, that what you have described seems to be correct behavior.
If you want to turn off your PC by shutdown, you should run it with -h
option: sudo shutdown -h now.

To remove an old kernel and free up disk space use sudo apt-get remove
linux-image-old version-generic

However, if you tried to install a new kernel and installation failed due to
lack of disk space you should follow these steps:
1. Move temporarily initrd.img-old version-generic and vmlinuz-old
version-generic from boot to other location
2. sudo dpkg --configure -a
3. Move temporarily initrd.img-new version-generic and vmlinuz-new
version-generic from boot to other location
4. sudo apt-get remove linux-image-old version-generic
5. Move back initrd.img-new version-generic and vmlinuz-new
version-generic

Replace old version and new version with proper kernel version.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) may be a little
misleading. It means that the whole upgrade/instalation process failed. And
from log files we know that it is virtualbox causing the problem.
I hope I answered your question.

[Bug 231881] Re: trash icon disappears after logging off and then logging in

2008-05-21 Thread Jerzy Mansarliński
I can reproduce this bug using fresh install Hardy Heron with latest updates.
gnome-applets 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
 gnome-panel 1:2.22.1.3-0ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:
1. Login in gdm to your account
2. Logout
3. Login to the same account

Result: missing trash applet icon

There is no crashes, no errors. The trash applet process is running.

If I login to an other account, the trash icon is present.

I'll mark this bug as confirmed and reassign it to gnome-applets.

It's probably a problem with sysv-rc package, which contains update-rc.d

Hello.
LVM is currently supported in Ubuntu Alternate install CD. Also if you have
network access you can install lvm2 package in your live cd environment and
install Ubuntu from normal cd. You can find instruction on the Internet.

If you want LVM support in main install CD you can vote on this idea
