It's ok the new language selector but in server environments without X

[Bug 198497] Re: cannot rename video file

2008-03-05 Thread getaceres
Yes. If I enable it the result is the same.
I've observed that when I add a video file, I can rename it clicking on the
name and the preview doesn't show on the first time. But once it has been
edited, further tries to edit the name show this behavior.
Also, I tried cutting and pasting part of the name (in a file names A-B.avi,
cut A and try to paste it after B). It gave me an error as if it was trying to
paste the file itself, and not the clipboard content.

[Bug 65164] Re: MASTER Firefox 2 can't save to fat32/ntfs partitions (e.g. usb memory stick) - results in empty file

2007-04-25 Thread getaceres
I tried commenting

if (aLocalFile.isExecutable()  !this.mLauncher.targetFile.isExecutable()) {
var f = aLocalFile.clone();
aLocalFile.leafName = aLocalFile.leafName + . +
this.mLauncher.MIMEInfo.primaryExtension;

f.remove(false);
this.makeFileUnique(aLocalFile);
}

and it works. Now I can download files to my FAT32 partition but I don't
know what side-effects this could have

I'm using Edgy and it happens to me too. When an application crashes and
I click on the systray icon, apport-gtk process starts to reserve

[Bug 65164] Re: Firefox 2 can't save to fat32 partition

2007-03-07 Thread getaceres
I'm saying that it works well in every other application except firefox, so I
think it's related to firefox. As a user, I can write in the fat32 partition in
all the applications (konqueror, nautilus, kget, gaim, amarok, even amule and
azureus) but not with firefox. It can write because it creates an empty file
but instead of filling it, the download ends immediatly and the file is left
with a size of 0 bytes.
I'm using the latest version and it's still the same. It's happening since the
first time I installed Edgy (it was in beta at the time). It didn't happen with
Dapper and I haven't tested Edgy yet.
I have tried disabling and uninstalling all the extensions, even deleting the
.mozilla directory and it still happens.

[Bug 144571] Re: Suspend and Hibernate kills network manager

2007-10-02 Thread getaceres
I've installed Ubuntu Gutsy beta for X86_64 and now suspend works all the times
(at least the five or six times that I've tried it). With the i386 version I

The other change has been that now I'm using ext3 instead of xfs as the root

[Bug 148744] encfs is not working on gutsy

2007-10-03 Thread getaceres
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to have an encrypted home directory for a user and I did the
following steps:

1. I created the user other_user and so, the directory /home/other_user
2. I created a directory /home/.enc_other_user and changed its owner to
other_user
3. Then I opened a terminal with sudo -u other_user -H gnome-terminal
4. Once in there, I created an encrypted volume with encfs
/home/.enc_other_user /home/other_user -- -o nonempty. It asked for a password
so I gave it one.
5. I unmount the volume with fusermount -u /home/other_user
6. I mount the volume again with the same command as in 4. It asks me again
for the password and I enter it.
7. I change to the /home/other_user directory and copy a file with cp
/home/getaceres/README .

At that point it is expected that a new file is created in
/home/.enc_other_use but nothing happens here. I can see in mtab that
encfs is mounted in /home/other_user and also if I unmount it with
fusermount -u /home/other_user it doesn't give any error. At that point
(after unmounting) the new copied file is supposed to dissappear, but it
doesn't and stays as clear text.

I'm using Gutsy updated to 2007/10/03 with encfs 1.3.2-1-1.
Doing the same process described above, it was working in Feisty.

[Bug 144077] Re: [gutsy] Regression - Desktop effects could not be enabled on ATI Mobility Radeon

I have a Radeon 9700 and trying to execute compiz with the open source driver
hangs the X Window completely. I can move the mouse but the screen is totally
unresponsive and ctrl-alt-back does not work, I have to reset.
I have tried with the Live CD and the result is the same, once it tries to

spinning. The funny thing is that using a Beta Live CD I can log in and desktop
effects are working perfectly.

[Bug 144571] Re: Suspend and Hibernate kills network manager

2007-09-27 Thread getaceres
It's strange but it shows a different behavior when it has a debugger attached.
It doesn't crash and it works after suspend.
Without a debugger I got two syslogs. The first of them the NetworkManager
program did not restart and I lost my connection but it didn't crash. I had to
restart manually the NetworkManager service.

[Bug 144571] Re: Suspend and Hibernate kills network manager

2007-09-27 Thread getaceres
The second time, it crashed.

I have tested a lot of times with gdb and in all of them it worked as expected.
It didn't crash and the connection was restarted.
It's difficult to test it for me because everytime I suspend there is about a
50% of probabilities that the laptop will fail to resume the videocard (the
screen remains black and nothing work) so I have to reset the machine very
often. I don't know if that could be related but I think it must be a problem
with the binary Nvidia drivers.

[Bug 148744] Re: encfs is not working on gutsy

2007-10-08 Thread getaceres
I've been using it for some days and it behaves in a very strange way. When I
copy files into the encrypted directory and then I unmount it, that files
dissapear from the normal view but when I mount the filesystem again half of
the previously copied files are not readable. Also, as I'm mounting a user home
directory, some applications I start try to read the recently used files and
they get strange names (I think that they read the encrypted name, which should
not happen) and also some of the previously copied files have dissappeared.
I don't know why it happens. I have tried creating a new user and a new
directory and I get the same behavor while in Feisty it was working perfectly.

2007-10-08 Thread getaceres
I've just installed the kubuntu packages over a functional Ubuntu Gutsy

Is there a way to use emerald or Gnome Window Decorator instead?

[Bug 131013] Re: starting compiz in KDE displaces adept from tray

2007-10-10 Thread getaceres
This is a problem that has been there since the first days of Compiz and
neither the Compiz developers nor the KDE developers have bothered to
fix this, so the Kubuntu developers will not fix it either because
Compiz is not officially supported by Kubuntu. If you want to have good
desktop effects in KDE, wait for KDE 4.0 or switch directly to GNOME
since, no matter what the Compiz developers say, it is designed with
GNOME and only GNOME in mind and so, most distributions have opted to
not support Compiz in KDE at all.

[Bug 335879] Re: nvidia driver 180.35 breaks KDE 4

2009-03-07 Thread getaceres
According to NVNews forums, the 180.37 drivers seems to fix the problems with
signals. If you don't want to update the repositories with the new drivers
without testing (although I doubt they will be worse than the 180.35 drivers),
please, post here the updated packages and we will test it.
Installing the drivers trough the NVidia installer usually prevents further
installations from packages to work correctly so to better test the drivers we
need some packages.

[Bug 342671] Re: Doesn't support installations which require a removal

2009-10-23 Thread getaceres
Today I've found another blocked update because it needed to uninstall
two packages. We are past RC so I don't think this will be solved in
Karmic. Maybe it will be solved in Lucid, maybe not, who knows. Seeing
that all the efforts in kpackagekit in more than six months have gone in
adding some useless animations while this extremely important bug
remains open, maybe it will last forever or until we have a 3D
multitouch enabled interface or something like that.

[Bug 342671] Re: Doesn't support installations which require a removal

2009-10-25 Thread getaceres
I'm sorry for my last comment. I know you are doing your job but I was very
upset because adept never worked as expected and now kpackagekit isn't working
either, so for two years there hasn't been a fully functional package manager
in Kubuntu and that's one of the obvious examples of Kubuntu being second in
support and lagging behind Ubuntu.
Anyway, I appreciate your work and I understand that this is a complex problem
involving all the design of Packagekit (and that Synaptic and Ubuntu in general
don't suffer it because they don't use packagekit at all). I heard that
KPackage will be replaced by KPackagekit in KDE 4.4, so having more support
upstream maybe will solve the problem faster.

I'm using Gwenview 4.1.2 in Intrepid and I have installed the kipi-
plugins and the libkipi0 and libkipi5 packages. However, when I open a
photo in gwenview and I select the plugins menu, all the categories are
empty.

** Affects: gwenview (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 268870] Re: ark doesnt open zips inside zips

2008-09-11 Thread getaceres
I've just tried it and it seems to open zips with zip files inside.
However it

1. It tries to open those embedded zips with the viewer so it fails. It should
open a new instance of ark or better yet, expand the zip as if it were a
directory, I guess this is more a wish than a bug.
2. It fails if the extension is not zip. For example, it fails to open jar
files while file-roller opens them. I don't know if this is an upstream bug or
if it's related to packaging, since the changelog of 4.1.1 states that it
should now open files by content.

[Bug 222557] Re: MemStick problem with card_reader (tifm)

2008-09-15 Thread getaceres
Is it possible to include the aforementioned fix in the default ubuntu
packages? It seems that the upstream kernel is not going to fix it.

[Bug 275700] Re: Kubuntu cannot be fully translated to other language after it is installed.

2008-10-08 Thread getaceres
I have installed language-pack-kde-es and I can confirm that I can't
fully translate KDE to Spanish. That was the case also for previous
versions of Kubuntu (KDE3 and KDE4) but it was solved once the kde-l10n-
es and kde-i18n-es packages were installed and I changed the language in
the systemsettings or kcontrol applications (language-pack-kde-XX does
not depend on kde-i18n-XX or kde-l10n-XX). So it is not invalid or it
has been a bug in language-pack-kde-XX that has been there since the
beginning of Kubuntu.

[Bug 263438] Re: Adept3: search does not provide expected results

2008-10-09 Thread getaceres
Yes, but the problem is that Kubuntu is going to ship with Adept 3.0 as
default (and only) package manager and that even if it's corrected in
Adept 3.1 before April, the people using Intrepid will have to wait for
six months with a weird semi-working package management application. I'm
not using Adept just because of this bug. For me it's completely useless
since I can never find what I'm looking for and I use Synaptic all the
time, but Kubuntu users may not be aware that Synaptic even exists. I
don't think that including Adept in its actual state as default package
manager is a good idea just because of this bug.

[Bug 263438] Re: Adept3: search does not provide expected results

2008-10-09 Thread getaceres
I don't think that reverting back to Adept2 is the solution but just
that this bug must have been corrected even in feature-freeze status
(since is not a feature, it's a bug) just because this bug makes the
whole application work in a strange way that most users would find
strange. For me, it would have been better to completely remove the
search functionality until it was ready than to release the application
with a semi-working search feature because either way, searching in
Adept3 is mostly useless. Anyway, I would have used Synaptic instead of
that because I rely too much in the package's name (normally I know the
package name of what I want to install or at least part of it) but with
that search functionality anyone can think that a package doesn't exist
just because the package manager does not find it.
