I'm having a problem with the Italic button in OpenOffice.org Writer. I

normally elsewhere.

I usually use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+i, but for turning it off
neither way works now. Bold and underline button work without problems.

[Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.3

2008-01-29 Thread Martin
If anyone is contributing to this task, they should join forces with
Debian Java maintainers.

So, since the Debian import freeze came and went a long time ago and
feature freeze is just two weeks away... no 3.3 in Hardy then... most
likely. :(

And downloading and running from the website doesn't work (I've
forgotten what the error was for me in Hardy and I'm back in Gutsy now).
Oh well.

Yes, I know. But it is fixable (reparent to a window as large as the

So... it is still a bug and should be kept open until it is fixed in
Compiz and Ubuntu can change mode. (Having this fixed in Compiz won't
automatically mean that Ubuntu's defaults will change.)

[Bug 86583] Re: user must run fsck by hand on FS corruption detected at boot

2007-11-18 Thread Martin
99.% of users of ubuntu, if they find out how to run fsck at that prompt,
 will say YES
to every of fsck's suggestions, only a few kernel hackers would know enough
 to not follow
 the defaults in fsck.

I wonder if even kernel hackers know enough to not follow fscks
suggestions... seriously...

so i suggest that instead of dumping the user to a shell, something
like that is displayed:

Serious filesystem corruption detected; Press Enter for automatic
 recovery, F12 for
 manual recovery (expert mode)

Why not just run automatic recovery. I don't really see mere mortals
doing anything else. It might be interesting for filesystem developers
doing some sort of debugging. But if you're a filesystem developer, you
can set up your system to not run fsck automatically anyhow.

If a question is to be put on the screen, I suggest making it timeout
after a couple of seconds. But I really don't see the point in asking at
all.

Did mkdir /var/run/screen dir, chmod 775 and chgrp to utmp. Don't see

When an application crashes the cpu spikes to 100% and the whole system
becomes unresponsive. After a few seconds I usually manage to do a
killall apport and everything is peachy again. It never fails.

I'm surprised apport is even enabled in this state... :/ It's bad enough
that an app has crashed, but why effecively bring the whole system to a
crawl?

[Bug 58430] Re: Command-line recovery required when fsck reports an unexpectedy inconsistency

And if there's some tool out there that is better at recovering data

Anyways, asking and making it CRYSTAL CLEAR and DEAD SIMPLE what needs

now.

[Bug 160394] Re: network manager unable to switch between wired and wireless connections

2007-12-12 Thread Martin
I've got the same problem with network-manager. I'm on Kubuntu, and I'm
using it with the Knetworkmanager applet.

Selecting a wireless network from the list won't get me a connection.
Knetworkmanager says Connection failure, and re-connects to the wired
connection.

However, unplugging the LAN cord causes network-manager to get connect
to wireless instantly (often but not always).

I'm attaching /var/log/syslog and dmesg for the timeframe of the event
(choosing wireless network (eth1) in knetworkmanager, while the LAN cord
is connected).

[Bug 172651] Re: Can't run screen in Gutsy

2007-11-29 Thread Martin
 Not so obvious to me.

Well, it's obvious that /var/run/screen can't be created when screen is
run (as !root) so it must be created before that. At boot? At install
time? Don't know. But yes, if it is supposed to be created by some init
script, and isn't, perhaps finding the bug in that script ain't so
obvious...

Is your /var/run mounted as a tmpfs ?

$ df -h /var/run
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
varrun252M 96K 252M 1% /var/run

Haven't setup /var/run to be anything else than what the default install
gave me. (In other words, it should just work (tm) :)

Hi,

since my upgrade of the kernel to 2.6.22-14.47 adept didn't crash anymore. May
be that's related to the kernel or other upgrades. I will monitor this
problem and report asap. Synaptic I used with Feisty, but 'I don't have
installed yet under gutsy. Apt-get or aptitude I'm using rarely, only if some
other people tell how to use.

The internet connection is indeed a strange probleme, because everytime I'm
opening adept related software, internet connection will break and I have to
wait about more then one minute to establish it again. Sometime it helps to
call my router via ip address, so it seems the DHCP is lost.

Re: [Bug 222876] Re: package gcc-3.3-doc 1:3.3.6-15ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade:

2008-04-29 Thread Martin
Yes you are correct.

   apt-get install gcc-4.2-doc
will install the documentation for the latest version compiler

   apt-get remove gcc-3.3-doc
will remove the documentation for the much older version 3.3
compiler

no removing didn't break anything on either my two test systems
the old system (continually upgraded since the Ubuntu 5.1
breasy badger CD*)
*  or
the brand new installed system (Kubunto 8.04 CD).

   - When you remove it, notice that nothing else is removed because
   nothing else depended on it.
   - All the new updates and programs will be using the newer gcc
   compiler (version 4.2)

Besides, the error occurred because the update tried to re-install all your
registered packages correctly after 8.04 baseline files were in place and
this was the only package that had problems.

You would only need the (gcc-3.3-doc) docs for gcc 3.3 if you needed to look
up a compiler switch because you were using that old version of the compiler
for a specific project.

[Bug 224356] [NEW] Unable to choose location (frozen in subregion)

2008-04-29 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

I wanted to add Ljubljana in slovenia in location but the way the regions and
subregions are set for Slovenia it is impossible to select Ljubljana as a
location, even though it is the capital of the country and not a region. The
only location it allows to select is Brnik, which is the airport.
Same happens for Maribor, however not for Portorož, as there is a subregion and
a location by that name.

Ways to reproduce:
1. install Ubunto 8.04 Hardy Heron (update from 7.10)
2. click on the clock on the panel toolbar
3. open up Locations and click the Edit button
4. Select the locations tab
5. Click the Add button
6. enter ljubljana in the search field and click Find

Now a lot may be dependent on the weather data provider so I am not sure hom
much of this is their bug or Ubuntu's.
My suggestion is to either remove subregions for Slovenia (it is a small
country) or to correct it so the subregions have the cities with the same names
as regions.

2008-06-26 Thread martin
Same bug for me.

If I boot with the last 2.6.24-19, the nvidia driver (nvidia-glx-new
from ubuntu repositories) is not used, and not listed in System -
Administration - Restricted drivers.

My keyboard layout change too, it switchs to USA (I use french
keyboard).

No problems if I boot with the 2.6.24-18.32 kernel.

I attach my xorg.conf and my Xorg.0.log (after a fresh restart with the
2.6.24-19 kernel) in the next comments.

I join too my last updates, as I don't know wich packages cause the bug.
Note that there are 2 updates listed, in 2 different days. In fact I
haven't try to boot with the 2.6.19 kernel after the first update, so
perhaps it's a package from this list.

Tell me if can give other information ;) .

AW: [Bug 226130] Re: Pressing esc character on IR remote reatcs like esccharacter pressed two times on the keyboard

2008-05-12 Thread Martin
Hi djbmister.

The lines

patch -p0 core.py.patch
patch -p0 mythtvhandler.py.patch

are not working.

I have used

patch -p0 core.py.patch
patch -p0 mythtvhandler.py.patch

This is working. After I have appllied the patches, I have regenerated a
.lircrc file with the MCC.

1. The behavior is not changed. From a newsletter website, pressing the ESC
key brings you out from the news center up into the main info center
2. The old lircrc files were included all the files inside .lirc. After the
patch there are only ~/.lirc/mythtv and ~/.lirc/mplayer inside the .lircrc
file.

Have you any further suggestions?

Best regards

Martin

esccharacter pressed two times on the keyboard

The Lirc generator has two entry's enabled for enter, which in turn
creates two entry's in the .lirc config.

It then enables on 'enter' as an escape, causing it to escape twice

Please see attached patch, to rectify this fault.

unzip file, patch files in /usr/share/pycentral/mythbuntu-lirc-generator
/site-packages/MythbuntuLircGenerator

[Bug 204996] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.24-12 lockup

2008-05-14 Thread Martin
I'm experiencing this bug too. I have Dell D400 laptop with Intel
graphics, audio and wireless. Mostly it happens when browsing the web
with FF3 (what is actually 80% of the time). The last time it happened
was while scrolling down the Slashdot page.

Another thing which might not be in direct connection with the lockups.
When watching Flash videos I experience stuttering about every minute
(but not only with Flash). I noticed that at that time the Xorg process
jumps to 2 or 3%. Also, touchpad scrolling breaks down after a couple of
these stutters.

Finally, when shutting down the laptop, it freezes too. This occurs very
often. I also can't use hibernation anymore because of this.

In Gutsy everything worked flawlessly (only bluetooth module after a
couple of wakeups from hibernation couldn't wake up too).

I'm attaching my dmesg.

[Bug 199580] Re: attempt to access beyond end of device when transferring data to sony ericsson w810i memory stick

2008-05-16 Thread Martin
I haven't had a chance to try it in Windows, but I can't imagine the
same problem exists there -- after all they guarantee Windows support
and I'm sure they tested it thoroughly there. If it's not working on
Windows, that's a valid reason for returning your device and getting
your money back. Not so much for Linux.

I tried a card reader and it's working perfectly there. However, it
would be nice if it were working with the phone as well -- could you
mark the bug active again? I really don't think it's S-E's fault alone
(apart from the fact that they don't publish their code).

[Bug 204979] Re: [hardy] wifi led status light doesn't work

2008-06-23 Thread Martin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 176090 ***

Some strange behavior for the Acer Travelmate 8215. Both WLAN and LED
work, if the driver is restarted manually. Kill switch can be used to
turn off WLAN, but not to turn it on again. Therefore, the module has
to be unloaded and loaded again.

[Bug 204996] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.24-12 lockup

2008-06-13 Thread Martin
I hope I'm not too annoying, but I have agree with Sergio. If this was a
regular release I wouldn't mind, but since this is an LTS release, I do.
I was really looking forward to recommend (and support) it to many
friends, relatives and colleagues because of that, but since this
unfortunate experience I have it installed only on my laptop which gives
me the headaches and one LTSP server which seems to be fine. Another
computer on which I tried to install Mythbuntu had to be rollbacked to
Gutsy. Thus other machines I support are being put on hold. I can't
imagine I would have to support even more computers with a problem like
that.

Is there anything that can be done to get this fix released for 8.04.1?
There were no results mentioned from git-bisect that was proposed to
Elod. I have no idea how to perform git-bisect, but I volunteer to do
it. Anything to get rid of this pest.

I have an older version of my current machine; it's similar enough that
drivers are mostly the same. I did a clean install of Hardy on that one,
and there's no lockups on it so far. This could possible be related to
something happening or being left over from upgrading the system, rather
 than reinstalling?

[Bug 109985] [feisty] drag stopped working

2007-04-25 Thread martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

After I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty, dragging stopped working. Single-
click, Double-click, scroll and circularscrolling all work perfectly.

I'm working on a NEC P550, and it used to work in Dapper and Edgy.
According to Device Manager it is an AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint (synclient
-h doesn't work).

Xorg section:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Synaptics Touchpad
Driver synaptics

Option Device /dev/psaux

Option SHMConfig true

[Bug 110326] ATi radeon dual screen issues

2007-04-26 Thread martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I experience some nasty bugs with my dual-monitor setup. I'll first
explain the setup I'm using, and then the bugs I encounter.

I've got a NEC Versa P550 laptop (Centrino) with an Ati Radeon M300
(PCI-Express) videocard, and Ubuntu Feisty installed (upgraded from
Edgy, which was a clean install). At home I use the built-in TFT-screen
(1400x1050) in combination with an external monitor (1280x1024). In
dual-monitor setup the external one is the primary. Because the driver
doesn't detect the external screen (which isn't a problem on Windows), I
force detection in the xorg.conf with the MonitorLayout option:

Section Device
Identifier Radeon Mobility M300 DualScreen
Driver ati
BusID PCI:1:0:0
Option MetaModes 1400x1050 1400x1050-1280x1024 1400x1050+1280x1024
1280x1024 1024x768
Option MergedNonRectangular true
Option CRT2Position LeftOf
Option CRT2HSync 30-83
Option CRT2VRefresh 56-76
Option DesktopSetup horizontal,reverse

Option MonitorLayout LVDS,CRT

Option DynamicClocks true
Option AccelDFS 1
Option GARTSize 64
Option EnablePageFlip 1
Option ColorTiling 1
EndSection

To make sure I always can see the login screen etc, I use the single-
monitor setup as default (1400x1050, first on the MetaModes line).
Second entry is the dual-monitor setup, third and fourth are fallbacks
for when I want to use a beamer or so.

I'll use 'mode 0' for 1400x1050, 'mode 1' for 1400x1050-1280x1024, and 'mode 2'
for 1280x1024
mode 0 always shows on both screens: it outputs 1400x1050 on the internal TFT,
and on the external port which my external monitor can't show correctly (19
Philips TFT, it skips every 3rd pixel or so)
-

The problems (in random order):
1. On login, the correct mode is choosen for the display: mode 0. However, the
Virtual resolution choosen is for mode 1: position is centered, and I can
scroll to the left and right. That means I can see exactly half of the login
field, and the left half of the empty background on the right.
2. After login, mode 0 is choosen. However, now the virtual resolution for mode
2 is choosen. To get the proper resolution, I have to change the resolution to
mode 2 and then back to mode 0
3. xrandr -s 0, 1, and 2 all work perfectly, as well as Preferences-Screen
Resolution
4. Mode 0 always shows up on my external monitor, even though it isn't capable
of doing that.
5. The third entry of the MetaModes line (1400x1050+1280x1024) doesn't show up
in xrandr.
6. Setting all this up was a hell, mostly because the external screen couldn't
be detected
7. Some popups that want to show up on both screens (especially workrave) show
up twice on 1 screen in mode 0 and mode 2 (maybe needs a separate bug).

Most of them are the same in Dapper, Edgy and Feisty, but some things changed
in Feisty:
2. this used to choose mode 2. This was far easier: only one command on the
console and you're done. Now it's up to two ;)
3. xrandr used to malfunction sometimes, preferences-screen resolution didn't
work at all
6. I'm not sure about this one, I'll do a clean (Feisty) install next month.
7. was introduced in Edgy, didn't do that in Dapper.
- screen saver now pops the password dialog up on the right screen. In mode 0
on Dapper and Egy it used to place it on a place where I couldn't see it.

I'll be happy to give more details, if needed.

[Bug 113793] Re: error in terminal after upgrading to Feisty

2007-05-31 Thread Martin
I have noticed that when this error occurs, Aptana (Eclipse) becomes
unresponsive. I haven't noticed this happening with any other application, nor
have I been able to reproduce the bug.
If another user has the same problem and also uses Eclipse I immagine it would
be a nice clue.
Let me know if there is any further information I can provide.

[Bug 113793] Re: error in terminal after upgrading to Feisty

2007-05-31 Thread Martin
Given that wpshooter doesn't seem to be running Eclipse (www.eclipse.org), it
seems it's not to blame for this error. In my opinion, then, it raises this
bug's severity since it affects other applications and the overall stability of
the system (whereas it was reported so far that it only outputed syslog info in
the console).
Massimo, what info do you need in order to clear the 'needs info' status of
this bug?

[Bug 114655] Re: Computer often resumes immediately after suspend or hibernate

2007-06-01 Thread Martin
As I don't use suspending much since this bugreport and I also upgraded
kernel (from ubuntu repository), I haven't reproduce it recently.
Therefore now I will start using suspend again and let you know my
results soon.

[Bug 80215] Re: Alsa does not work on Fujitsu-Simens Lifebook C1410

2007-04-19 Thread Martin
I've upgraded to Feisty, but with the same result. It still does not
work. There seems to be a bunch of bugs related to the ICH7 rev 2, this
might be a duplicate of one of the other filed bugs??

[Bug 77212] Re: No screen upon resume from suspend to ram (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020)

I had the same problem on a Fujitsu-Siemens C1410 with i915 chipset and I just
uncommented the line that as default said # SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true
It now works as it should. Great!

[Bug 102354] Re: [apport] gs-esp crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-04-20 Thread Martin
I tried now to print a random html page to pdf using kprinter, eg.
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/string-functions.html
Before applying your advice I got again SIGSEGV.
After applying your advice the pdf file was successfully created, although
there were missing some fonts (ps version was just ok, pdf was unreadable). But
this may be other issue :-)
Thanks.
