[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810217] Re: [MIR] wayland protocol package

I'll look at addressing these concerns, and multiarching the libraries.
I'd like to keep the transitive dependencies of mesa multiarched.

2011-08-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
tabbernuk:

Hmm it sounds like you have different bug to that described here (e.g.
you see corruption in things other than text). I would suggest opening a
separate (new) bug report (and then post a link to the new report here)
because if the bug I see is fixed your issue can remain open if it
continues...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820832] [NEW] xorg 100% when scrolling in gnome terminal

2011-08-04 Thread bitcl...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

When gnome-terminal starts scrolling continuosly (i.e. tailing a log),
the Xorg cpu usage bumps up to 100% and my machine becomes deadly slow
(even though it's a 8 cores westmere). This problem was visible on 10.10
but with 11.04 it became much more evident.

Please note that I use Xorg with Xinerama and nvidia dual head (one
screen on landscape mode and another logical screen made of 2 physical
screens in portrait mode linked together by nvidia dual head)

Thanks,
Vincenzo

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend

2011-08-04 Thread Fionn
I'd like to strongly emphasize my opinion that this is certainly NOT a
duplicate of #554984.
Bug #554984 is about enabling tracpoint scrolling generally.

THIS bug, however, is about X forgetting certain settings, namely the
trackpoint wheel emulation, which have been enabled via xinput, during an S3
(suspend to ram) cycle.
Since X is not being restarted in the course of this event, it should also not
change or forget its settings.

Putting the required statements into .xsessionrc as recommended in
#554984 as a workaround does not apply for this bug, too, since that
file is only evaluated at X startup and not at resume from s3.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 554984

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend

2011-08-04 Thread Fionn
Although this bug is most certainly not a duplicate of bug #554984, it might
(or might not) be related to bug #489830 which seems to have useful hints in
the comments. Whether or not this actually is the same issue should be properly
investigated before flagging this as dupe again, IMHO.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] [NEW] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Ubuntu 11.04 package version 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 (was the same for
2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1)

Heavy screen corruption appears after some ~12h usage. It is similar or
probably includes font corruption reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/745608, but certain other GUI elements, for example desktop
background are corrupt too. Corruption appears after logging in and out
to system between different users using different applications in
different screen modes, but I haven't fount a clear recipe how to
produce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] Re: Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
I add the links to related pictures in another bug report.

Heavy corruption of desktop and fonts:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389588/Medium%20corrpution%20desktop.png
Medium corruption:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389610/Heavy%20corruption%20desktop.png

I also tried fixing the problem with some workarounds and applied

Section Device
Identifier Intel
Driver intel
Option Tiling false
EndSection

in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This seemed to protect the desktop from
corruption, but still corrupted the Ubuntu menu bar (see the image
attached to the report).

If I applied DebugWait=true from xorg.conf, the corrution appeared the
same as before.

** Attachment added: Minimal corruption when applied Tiling=false from
xorg.conf

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820918] [NEW] The screen gets garbled after a few hours of use

2011-08-04 Thread Mynk
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have noticed this problem on my desktop (hoping details were picked by
apport) on Ubuntu 10.10 also and was expecting it to be fixed on 11.04
but I still see the issue. It gets really annoying as I can't do much
with the screen in this state - A Ctrl-A and Esc usually clears up some
of the mess.

I don't see this issue on any other machine so I am sure it is a problem
specific to the hardware. I am attaching the screen capture along with.
Kindly let know if any other details are needed and apport didn't pick
up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 129041] Re: xterm icon available by default

2011-08-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Since the default session is unity, which doesn't have a menu as classic
GNOME, I'm inclined to close this bug as 'opinion' rather than implement
'NoDisplay', as the package in oneiric does install .desktop files by
default.

The rationale is that apart from Ubuntu/Xubuntu, the other variants
don't seem to include xterm by default, so if people install it they
most likely want to see the app in the desktop menu as well..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
Sitsofe:

I reported the bug on my i945 with the desktop etc corruption at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/820881

However I suppose the bug on my i915 is the same one as described here,
because I see mainly font corruption. Window buttons are a small
exception which is quite hard to notice, but this was also reported in
the original bug report on i915. I believe these reports belong
together, because they both consist of similar defects (extra vertical
lines on small sprites). Or do you suppose there should be also separate
bug report on window buttons for i915?

And I want to stress that I didn't have the font corruption problem on
Ubuntu 10.10 (and before), or at least it didn't happen often enough for
me to notice it (although I still think I have seen it couple of times
during past years).

I object to this being marked as Opinion. Who intentionally uses
xterm? If it needs to be there as part of the fallback support, fine.
But it is the ugliest 2 menu items in the default install.

When I boot either FreeBSD or Windows 7, I NEVER have a hang and NEVER

I believe this problem is related to KMS or X startup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT

2011-08-04 Thread Anoop Karollil
Switched to the nouveau drivers. No Unity (there apparently is an
experimental dri package libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental that you can
install to get 3D support - but I want things stable). Seems stable now
and fast (alt tab etc) too. I do wish this gets fixed though.

** Summary changed:

- X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick GeForce 9600GT
+ X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT

2011-08-04 Thread Jonas Schmuttermair
I could install the package without error-messages again after
uninstalling alll newer kernel versions than: 2.6.32.32. now fglrx-
amdcccle seems to be installed properly but imo it does not do its work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 821043] [NEW] No video signal with Natty (11.04 Desktop i386)

2011-08-04 Thread m...@bartschnet.de
Public bug reported:

Setup:

Monitor: HP LP2475W
KVM-Switch: ATEN CS1784
Notebook: FSC Amilo Si 2636 (INTEL GMA 3100)
PC:DIY INTEL GMA 3500

As usual the KVM-switch is attached to the monitor via DVI. Notebook and
PC are attached to the KVM-switch via DVI-over-HDMI. Up to Maverick
(10.10) everything works fine.

But when I tried to upgrade the notebook to Natty or used a Natty-LiveCD
with the PC, the monitor displays No Signal and about every 30 seconds
the screen is visible for about 500 milliseconds. After switching back
to Maverick, everything works fine, again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 807161] Re: [Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller] Display sluggish, black background and repeated windows drawn when external monitor is connected

2011-08-04 Thread Daniel Manrique
Just tested these systems with the 2.6.38-11 kernel from -proposed, they
still have the same behavior as originally described.

Again, if I bring the external display's resolution down to 800x600
(640x480 on one system as nothing higher will work), both displays
look/work fine and performance is good with no sluggishness. But with
the default optimum resolution on the external panel it has sluggishness
and corrupted display.

2011-08-04 Thread Christian Niederreiter
Public bug reported:

Controls are not rendered completely, for instance in gEdit. Please view
the screenshot.

The bug happens on my VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd
Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Reproduce the bug by opening a text file with gEdit.
I also see the bug in the Unity2D panel, Eclipse and other programs, as well as
in Classic Gnome sessions (without desktop effects).

Tested resolutions: 1366x768 and 1024x768

I tested both the Oneiric (2.15) and Natty (2.14) version of xserver-
xorg-video-intel on Natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-08-04 Thread josejuan05
I have a HP dm4-1100 (sometimes notated dm4t) with the 5470 switchable
graphics. I tested bisects 001, 004, 005, 006, and 011.

001, 004, and 006 each booted properly 10 times out of 10.

005 failed the first three times before I gave up on it.

011 booted 10 out of 13 times. The last two times I booted 011 I didn't
get the evergreen error, and my cursor appeared (and would move
properly), but I couldn't do anything else. I took some pictures with my
phone of the error on the last two times, and if you think it would be
helpful I can transcribe them, but I'd rather not if you do not think it
would be of any help.

Stephen,

I had the same problem with the latest kernel update breaking my click
pad in lucid. I went back to the -32 kernel and the click pad still
works under that kernel. I have the hp touchsmart tm2t-1000. If you
have access to the older kernel you might give it a try.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-08-04 Thread David Medberry
Likewise, my HP ProBook 4320s works fine with the older kernel but the
clickpad is broken with the 10.04.3 kernel.

I just changed GRUB_DEFAULT=2 in /etc/default/grub followed by sudo
update-grub2 to make that kernel default (and it will more or less
break if a newer kernel comes out, thereby alerting me to the change
at which point I can try the new new kernel and see if the problem
persists.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 821181] Re: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2011-08-04 Thread Daniel Manrique
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I notice you're running Ubuntu 10.04, and trying to install the NVidia
drivers for that version (nvidia-current 195.36.24). However, your
kernel version is 2.6.38-10, this is not the kernel that shipped with
Ubuntu 10.04 (that should have version 2.6.32-21 to 2.6.32-33). Thus, it
is possible that the nvidia drivers fail to compile because they weren't
written for the kernel you're running.

Is there a reason why you're not using the 2.6.32 kernel, or why you
haven't upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04, which does include the 2.6.38 kernel,
as well as NVidia drivers version 270.41.06 which are compatible with
kernel 2.6.38?

I could suggest two things, both to try to solve your problem and to
confirm my hypothesis.

First would be for you to install and boot the 2.6.32 kernel for Ubuntu
10.04, then retry installing the NVidia drivers. However given the
newness of your NVidia card, it might be that it it not supported by
that version of the driver.

Second, if at all possible, would be to upgrade your system to Ubuntu
11.04, and then try to install the drivers that the stable 11.04 release
will suggest.

Please do let me know whether these suggestions work, as it will let me
know how to classify this report.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 821267] [NEW] Video driver fails to stay active

2011-08-04 Thread John Dee
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to 11.04 I noticed I could not launch WoW within .wine.
I found the video drivers were Installed but not activated. The only fix is
to go into synaptic Package manager and uninstall everything related to nvidia.
after the required reboot everything works fine for 2 or 3 days (i shutdown
every night).
