[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-10-10 Thread Rocko
304.51 is the least crashy version for me. It was really easy to
reproduce the crash with both 304.43 and 304.48, but on 304.51 it only
happens occasionally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] Re: After X update, tty7 is very glitchy

2012-10-10 Thread Kevin Keijzer
I thought that autologin made a difference, but it appears that I was
wrong. This is more likely an X bug than LightDM-specific.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] [NEW] After X update, tty7 is very glitchy

2012-10-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Since last night's updates, automatically logging in with LightDM causes
the screen to be blank with only a cursor shown. The desktop does appear
to be rendered on the background, because moving icons and clicking
menus (after guessing where they are) does work. The only way to get
things normal again is by restarting the lightdm service.

It doesn't seem to happen every time, but it does happen a lot. I have
also noticed that when manually logging in, the dmesg output on tty7
sometimes blends in with the desktop; for instance, a black box with a
blinking cursor is shown, or when plugging in a USB thumb drive, the
output from 'mount' will be displayed, until I move my cursor over that
area.

I'm running fully up-to-date Xubuntu 12.10 (no proposed packages though)
on a laptop with Intel graphics (xserver-xorg-video-intel driver).

height (not sure on the height one though). Please fix it soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing

2012-10-10 Thread Andrew Flegg
Still not working for me. Purged nvidia-.*; installed NVIDIA-
Linux-x86-304.51.run from nvidia.com. Interestingly the xorg.conf it
created has ConstrainCursor in the *screen* section. However, the
launcher doesn't reveal whether it's there, or also in the Device
section.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log contains:

[ 316.060] (**) NVIDIA(0): Option ConstrainCursor no

Also tried setting the following to no effect:
* Launcher Reveal Pressure: 1
* Launcher Edge Stop Overcome Pressure: 1

This, combined with bug #741869 is having a real impact on me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064898] [NEW] No windows management

2012-10-10 Thread xDfg#$
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have no windows management with Gnome Classic. I can't minimize or close the
windows (I have no signs for this). Also alt+tab doesn't work.
I re-installed metacity, gnome-shell and gnome-fallback-session.

Now, I know there was a bug report concerning this issue here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053288
But my Bamf is already 0.3.2 and I'm still experiencing such issues (And of
course I have the latest updates) and everything works fine with Unity.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-10-10 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
Hi there,

Still having freezes with 304.51 on a Linux-x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04, X.Org X
Server 1.11.3

2x560 Ti in SLI with 3 monitors in Xinerama

Xorgs shows 100% cpu in top:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

   1949 root 20 0 295m 189m 48m R 100 3.2 17:13.36 /usr/bin/X :0
vt7 -br -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-BChVza

See attached Xorg log for details.

I can provide files, or trace activity or whatever you need to find and
correct the bug; just ask me !

Strange thing, the driver just before seemed to work well, about [mi]
EQ overflow continuing. it was somehow adaptive or something like
that, then, it was freezing for a second, and then, continue.

With the 304.51 I don't see this behaviour anymore, and then X goes 100%
and freezes.

(its all about X freezing, not crashing or such).

Cheers,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064192] [NEW] [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 has been made fit for XServer 1.13

2012-10-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

New stable 173-driver was released on 2012.10.04
:
 * Added support for xserver ABI 13 (xorg-server 1.13)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-ia32-173.14.36-driver.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-173.14.36-driver.html

Additional information is at hand on the linked pages in the drivers
documentation.

So there woudln't be as many complaints as been seen on the last release...
if this could be included for the final-release of Quantal 12.10.

This regards also to nvidia-common (?)

and

nvidia-settings (which comtains mvidia-xconfig)

Thanks for the great support to help making Ubuntu better every day.
Quantal beats W8 already by numbers :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064979] [NEW] Mouse cursor teleports between two different locations

2012-10-10 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Public bug reported:

Using newest Quantal the mouse cursor started behaving strangely. When I
move the mouse, the cursor jumps back and forth between two locations,
which can up to a centimeter apart. Both cursor locations move according
to mouse motion.

If I push the cursors to the top left corner, they overlap. However in
use they start to slowly drift apart again.

This is not a rendering bug. The cursor actually moves. This can be
verified like this:

Suppose the two mouse locations are A and B and there are application
two buttons called 1 and 2. These buttons are separate, they have some
space (or another widget) between them. Then one moves the cursor so
location A is over button 1 and location B is over button 2. Moving the
mouse even a tiny distance makes the cursor jump between these two
locations randomly. When location A is active, pressing the mouse button
activates button 1. Correspondingly location B activates button 2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] Re: After X update, tty7 is very glitchy

2012-10-10 Thread Kevin Keijzer
I think I've found what triggers this behaviour: I have a line in
/etc/rc.local to set my initial brightness to a certain point. I believe
the last update to either X or LightDM causes a race condition which
triggers this bug. I have now added 'sleep 2' as the first line in
/etc/rc.local, and everything seems to be normal again.

Still, it might be worth looking into, as I'm most likely not the only
one with such a startup script.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] Re: After X update, tty7 is very glitchy

2012-10-10 Thread Kevin Keijzer
Edit: and once again I spoke too early, as the problem is back after a
reboot. I have now removed everything from /etc/rc.local, but it still
happens every now and then. And I can't get apport-collect to properly
work either, as it crashes as soon as I try to send the logs. Hence the
one big log directly from /tmp. Apparently that is also a known bug
(lp:1061493).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1059276] Re: Wine locks up when running multithreaded applications that touch both OpenGL and X11

2012-10-10 Thread Robert Hooker
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]

Wine needs an update to libxcb to include upstream commit
23911a707b8845bff52cd7853fc5d59fb0823cef. This commit fixes an issue
where multithreaded applications lock up when they use both OpenGL and
X11. This is being hit with a number of popular games on both quantal
  and precise.

[TESTCASE 1 - No wine required]

  1) download https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=67051
  2) compile and run: --- gcc -o test t.c -lxcb -lpthread; ./test
  3) When broken (without the patch) you'll just see o repeating over and
over, when working properly (with the patch) you'll see both o and x
appearing in the output.

  [TESTCASE 2 - Wine required]

  1) download http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41417 and extract it
  2) run wine graphics.exe and watch for it to get hung.
- 3) It should fade out or be hung on a green screen soon after launch without
the fix.
+ 3) It should fade out or be hung on a green screen soon after launch without
the fix.

  [Regression Potential]

- This patch is in the upstream libxcb repository and will be in libxcb
- 1.8.2 when it releases. more info on how regressions are most likely to
- manifest after update needed
+ This patch is in the stable libxcb 1.9 which was just released last
+ week. There has been no known fallout from it being in quantal for 2
+ weeks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065125] [NEW] After last MESA upgrade I'm expiriencing video-artefacts on my ATI RV630 [Radeon HD 2600XT]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065289] [NEW] Performance poor

Dear Friends,

I had a comparison between this system and an Asus EeePC netbook that
has Intel graphics and the EeePC has such smooth effects compared to
this system.

I would assume that this chipset is capable of smooth effects, as well.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065300] [NEW] [Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit] Severe instability of VIA Technologies Apollo MVP3 chipset and NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 graphics

2012-10-10 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am barely able to send this report from ubuntu-bug software.
I have this system with FIC VA-503+ mainboard and NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64.
It is probably the most unreliable computer I have ever had with Ubuntu.
Here are the symptoms I have seen.

1. Frequent freeze (50% of the time) during boot up (Nouveau displays a message
saying that GPU has crashed, and several seconds later the computer will
freeze.)
2. Sudden freeze during use
3. Sudden reverting back to log in screen

For 1, note that the freeze during boot up is most severe with NVIDIA RIVA TNT2
M64 only.
It seems to not have too many boot up freeze problems with other NVIDIA
graphics cards (i.e., GeForce 2 MX, GeForce 4 MX, and GeForce FX 5200).
Same with ATI Technologies graphics cards like Radeon 9250 and Radeon 9800 Pro.
For 2, sometimes when the computer freezes, I still see some access going on
with the hard drive, but it will eventually stop.
Keyboard and mouse will completely freeze.
For 3, it happens some times, not frequently, but I have observed it a few
times.
I did clean AGP and PCI connectors several times (Frequent cause of system
instability from my extensive experience of testing hardware with Linux.).
A little off topic, but I have a similar generation VIA Technologies
chipset-based mainboard (FIC KA-6011, VIA Technologies Apollo Pro133 chipset),
and while this mainbord doesn't have the same instability with NVIDIA RIVA TNT2
M64, it has frozen the computer when I was applying updates via Update Manager.
As as result, that installation of Ubuntu (10.04.4 LTS 32-bit) seems to have
gotten corrupted, and I can no longer automatically apply updates to that
installation of Ubuntu.
Is there a bug in the of VIA Technologies device drivers when used with
relatively older VIA Technologies hardware like Apollo MVP3 or Apollo Pro133?
Perhaps, VIA Technologies AGP GART device driver or PATA device driver can be
the culprit here.

System Configuration:

- Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit
  * All patches issued in the last 2 weeks have been applied
  * Linux 2.6.32-43-generic
- FIC VA-503+ mainboard
  * BIOS Version JE439 (I believe this is the last release version.)
  * VIA Technologies Apollo MVP3 chipset
- AMD K6-2 (I know it's old.)
  * 450 MHz
  * 100 MHz FSB
- 512 MB PC100 DDR SDRAM
  * 256 MB PC100 SDRAM DIMM X 2
  * Passes Memtest86+ v4.00 test in flying colors
- NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 graphics card
  * 32 MB SDRAM
  * Universal (1.5V/3.3V) AGP
- Intel 1000 Mbps Ethernet PCI card
- Maxtor 91360D8 13.6 GB PATA hard drive
- AT keyboard
- PS/2 mouse

2012-10-10 Thread Rocko
@Dmitrijs: To find which method is being used, do:

grep AccelMethod /var/log/Xorg.0.log

I find also that the titlebars of non-focused windows are often light
grey instead of black when using SNA.

And to change methods, put this in your xorg.conf to set the
acceleration method and then restart X:

Section Device
Identifier Card0
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod sna # or uxa, as appropriate
EndSection

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055400] Re: [nouveau] Major graphics corruption and flickering after exiting unredirected fullscreen mode

2012-10-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I have tested this bug with a quantal in a live session. The bug was
still there.

I am not going to push the bug upstream until I've upgraded my desktop
to quantal and re-tested though. Upstream gets quite upset if you report
bugs using older drivers (like in precise).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968218] Re: ssh x11 forwarding precise to oneiric causes glibc malloc(): memory corruption

2012-10-10 Thread Henry Wertz
Note, I see this bug between my Natty too... between my Natty
netbook and my Gentoo desktop (once the X server upgraded to 1.12.99,
and still with 1.13.0. Not sure why, because this computer just has a
mouse and keyboard, no touch screen or touchpad to provide exciting new
XInput events.) Installing libxi6_1.4.3-3ubuntu1.1_i386.deb from
Oneiric-updates works fine (no dependency problems and fixes the bug.)
