Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
The new quad board sounds very appealing. It would be a great Squeezebox to take with me during travel. It would be fitted with a 1TB hard drive, use WiFi in adhoc mode so that it can talk to an iPod or iPad with iPeng (and playback mode enabled). No need for an Access Point makes the whole thing compact and easy to carry. The Wandboard would keep its hard drive in sync with my NAS by means of Rsync when it is sitting at home. Love the idea. 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Boom, 1 x SB Radio and 2 x SB Touch - all wireless 1 x Wandboard behind the bedroom ceiling ReadyNAS NVX running LMS 7.7.2. w iTunes plugin iPeng on iPod Touch. I intend to put the WB and the SSD into a single enclosure. Only want one power supply connection going into it. Tack soldering a couple of wires to the PCB where the pins for the barrel plug receptacle protrude through the carrier board PCB, seemed like the easiest way to do it. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
I don't know what it is with me and desktop PC hard disks, but they keep failing for no particular reason. A 2TB Seagate drive that was only bought 3 weeks ago, to replace the most recent failed drive, decided to pack up on Saturday after 300 hours use. Oh well, at least the issue according to the SMART info is a new one on me, 184 End-to-End_Error. Googling seems to suggest that it is the cache on the drive that is the issue this time. Anyway, releasing a new CSOS image is delayed yet again. After several failed disks (like 20 or more last year, some of them with just a few months of use), we decided to switch from Seagate (Barracuda series) to Western Digital at work. Don't know what's happening with Seagate disks lately, but they die like there's no tomorrow. Now we've been using WD RE4 series for a few months and yet none of them failed. They are a little bit more expensive than the barracuda series, but cheaper than equivalent Enterprise Class HDD's from Seagate. Wish I could contribute and help you in any way, because you guys are doing a great job. ¿Maybe funds for a new HDD?. Since i've burned the r1 image i've never shut it down decently. Just pulled the plug everytime. I guess I've done that about 50 to 100 times. Up till now no problems. So just put the image on sd, do all settings and make a backup of the image. In case somtehing goes wrong you can use the backup. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay for Linux - where is it?
Better late than never... I just tried SqueezeLite and it is brilliant!!! What an amazing little program! I am running it on a Lubuntu Virtual Machine with just 256MB of RAM and it runs like a charm. In fact it hardly uses ANY RAM. I bet it can even run on 128MB or even a 64MB VM without a GUI. I downloaded the binary file from the googlecode and then I ran chmod +x to make it executable. Then, I ran it ./squeezelite-i386 and nothing happened! The terminal was just stuck. But then by fluke I ran iPeng on my iPod Touch and the son of a gun was right there! Ready to be played with! And it worked like a charm right away! Anyway thanks letting me know about this terrific player. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
I've been trying to get the optical out on the swamp board to work. I'm currently using R4, with just the squeezelite upgrade for sampling. When I have squeezelite setup for the spdif out and boot the board I get red on the output for a couple seconds, then it goes black for about a minute, then comes back on when squeezelite starts up. When I play a file the reciver I have it plugged into locks on to the signal and says it is the same sample rate as the file I'm playing. BUT there is no music. Alsamixer doesn't have any controls for it. I tried stopping squeezelite and use aplay to play a wav file and get the same results, receiver locks on and gets the correct sample rate, but no sound. I checked the files in /proc/asound and they say the interface is up and running with the appropriate parameters. I don't see anything in the log file that would give any indication of anything wrong. I tried the plug interface and get the same results. I tried alsa params of 40::16 and 40::24 and got the same results. BTW the swamp board uses a different transmitter than the wandboard and it IS connected the right way! I tried plugging the Touch optical out into the receiver and it plays music just fine so I think the receiver is working well. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thanks, John S.
