Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer

2016-01-17 Thread tcutting

When using applets in JiveLite (on PiCorePlayer), where to the logs go?
I've reviewed the log file specified by the PiCorePlayer configuration
(Squeezelite settings/log file name), but I don't find any of the
expected log messages from an applet. Where do the applet logs go? Do
I have to configure something to actually create logs from the applet?

I am not using Picoreplayer, but its quite simple to solve your question
under Raspbian.
You need (in my case):

- a small Bluetooth Mouse [image:

https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/_base_v1/products/arc-touch-bluetooth-mouse/mk_ATBM_slvr_large.jpg]
- Some python script
- and your done.

OK that allows you only 4 things

- Volume up/down
- prev. Song
- next Song
- pause

I dont think (better dont know) that Picoreplayer has all the needed
libs on board.
Since i am using a Ramdisk, having a backup of my SD Card and these are
cheap as hell...

At the risk of cross posting (I posted this in pCp 2.0 thread), I ask my
question here because it is a Jivelite setting, and not a pCp 2.0
setting per se.
My is question as follows; one of the Jivelite screen settings is *-date
and time format-*. Does this mean that there is or will be a clock
screensaver plugin or applet?
TIA,

Because this version is so different from the others it is not possible
to use the "In situ" upgrade/downgrade system to go down from version
2.00 to a previous version. If you for some reason want to use an older
version you will have to download the previous version and burn it to
your SD-card.

Hi Greg.
Thanks for you reply. Router is definitely within range as it lists it
when I run the diagnostic/scan mode from the picoreplayer GUI.

As a sanity check I booted the pi from another SD card running a Raspian
and the wifi worked fine so that proves the hardware is functioning
correctly. Have been over the SSID & password a dozen times - it almost
feels as if those parameters aren't being passed correctly to the OS.

If not you should copy all "your" stuff and start from scratch by using
a fresh image from squeezeplug.
Otherwise you always have to change lms settings when its started.

The script - well i dont know why these sleep(s) where added and if they
make any sense.

I've been trying to play 16/44 with no upsampling or buffering, for
several hours today. After about an hour the volume became very low and
sound was garbled (not the typical loud static hiss issue though).
Pausing/playing/track advance on LMS had no impact. I tuned the dac off
and back on and poof, sound back to normal. Who knows for how long
though. I'm starting to think that the "iec958:CARD=SA8005,DEV=0" output
device setting just doesn't play nice with the dac. Unfortunately.

Sorry, I'm a bit late with my answer ;-) This is from dmesg

Code:

[2.595667] usb 1-1.5: new high-speed USB device number 4 using dwc_otg
  [2.697669] usb 1-1.5: New USB device found, idVendor=7392, idProduct=7811

SerialNumber=3
  [2.697730] usb 1-1.5: Product: 802.11n WLAN Adapter
  [2.697748] usb 1-1.5: Manufacturer: Realtek

And ifconfig shows that it dropped A LOT OF packets (reaching 20
soon after about a day...).

Nevertheless, I can reach the Pi as soon as I start a song, so it's not
really an issue for me anymore.

By the way, this is my current project and its nearly finished:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFRwOS8BOsY

I'm sorry for the wrong format, originally it was just planned to be a
WhatsApp message to a friend... ;-)
I saw the original version on the internet in 2014 (
http://www.cnet.com/news/rewind-this-raspberry-pi-cassette-player-plays-spotify-tunes-on-actual-tapes/
) and always thought that I had to rebuild this using piCorePlayer to
integrate with my home sound system.

Actually it has a very high WAF! My wife can put in (for example) a
cassette which selects her favorite internet radio stations and when
pressing play, the cassette player starts (and also every other
synchronized device). No need for a smartphone app etc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelit

2016-01-17 Thread Plasma

Hello Everybody,

first of all I'd like to thank the team behind the piCorePlayer as it
seems to be exactly what I was searching for ages now!

Unfortunately I'm experiencing an issue and I'm hoping that someone can
direct me to a possible source of the issue.
I've set up a Raspberry B+ with the latest image (2.00) and booted the
RasPi with cable network - no issues so far.
Then I attached the Wifi Stick (TP-Link TL-WN715N V2.1) and configured
my wifi network - unfortunately the PWD has special chars so I expected
something failing (the UI states that PWDs have to be alphanumeric only)
and indeed it fails when using the wifi setup via web interface.
So I logged on via SSH and adapted the /home/tc/wifi.db and the
/usr/local/sbin/config.cfg to use my password with special chars. After
that I ran the script wifi.sh and the network connection gets
established - I can even load the web UI over the Wifi-Stick and log on
via SSH.

Now where's the issue? As soon as I disconnect the network cable, the
wifi stick is no longer reachable; web UI and SSH are no longer
responding. Only My router is of the opinion that the wifi stick is
still working (also the led in the stick is still blinking).
As soon as I reconnect the cable network the piCorePlayer gets available
again over the wifi-stick IP. Also SSH works great connecting to the
wifi-stick IP.

I'm assuming a power issue, but the power adapter can deliver 2.5 Amps,
which should be more than enough, imho. I hope the issue is not related
to the PWD.

Also I had an issue once that disconnecting the wifi-stick and
connecting it to a different USB port killed the piCorePlayer
installation. I had to completely re-write the image to the flash card -
is disconnecting a network device from the RasPi while it's turned on a
bad idea somehow?

I greatly appreciate any help - I hope I haven't overlooked anything in
the docs.

Thanks,
Plasma

2016-01-17 Thread Greg Erskine

Hi w7r,

I believe your wifi adaptor is support by piCorePlayer, I have a few. So
normally it should be very simple. :D

The main reasons for wifi not connecting:

1. Incorrect or invalid SSID
2. incorrect or invalid wifi password
3. Hidden SSID

I assume for testing your wifi adaptor is close to your wifi router.

That's the fstab, I think it looks is quite normal:

to test all the hardware is working okay - which it is.

I've written piCorePlayer to my sdcard, attached via cabled ethernet,
booted without issue and can access the web GUI. So the on to configure
wifi is where my issues begin. I'm persistently getting a message of:-

Set to try a few times to obtain a lease.
Attempting auto connection With GONZONET
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :

Network connection down! Attempting reconnection two times, etc,
etc

I'm completely at a loss as to whats going on, it almost as if the
wireless params aren't valid/not being read - I've tried editing the
newconfig.cfg and used different combos, have changed the hostname just
to make sure it's implemented my changes which it appears to have done
so for all but the wifi part. Has anybody else seen this behaviour?

I've attached the output of the diagnostics WIFI.txt and listed below.

Really appreciate any suggestions as to what's going on here.

Nope - please move all (except the server.prefs) to
/var/lib/squezzeboxserver/prefs.
The server.prefs.temp should be moved as server.prefs to
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs.

Code:

for file in $(find /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/old_prefs/); do if [ $file !=
server.prefs ];then mv $file
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/${file##*/};fi;done && mv
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/old_prefs/server.prefs.temp
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs

After that you can restart lms.
ElEsido wrote:

If its working - shut down your backup/transfer device and run the
script - you should see - nothing happens.
You also can use that script as "your" user - look what happen if you do
that:cool:

You can leave the script and the mountpoint in it.
Since my last smb share is loong time ago (i use cifs instead) your
on the "secure site" if you dont change that right now.

Currently playing 16/44. The loud hissing came back for a minute but I
was unable to powercycle the dac during that time. I'm trying to catch
it hissing and see if a powercycle of the dac fixes it, temporarily at
least.

Thank you, Steen , but I must apologize I am very new to anything
Linux.

Do I type this command into the piCorePlayer "Output Setting" field? In
place of or in addition to the current iec958:CARD=SA8005,DEV=0 entry?

Thank you very much for your help!

I also see in the Audio Tweaks section some options to change USB
communication. Maybe that could help? (It's been playing fine for
several hours now so I am very close to having it work, I feel, and it
sounds very good when working.)

Might the buffer settings have an impact? I don't see much online re the
buffer...

When I selected HDMI output on the one PI using it, it stopped all
audio. Only when I pasted back sysdefault:CARD=ALSA did HDMI start
working again.

I also had this problem on all my PI's (posted on the old thread,
sorry). Starting from scratch worked for me. Didn't know about having to
expand the memory first. Never had to do that before.

Wow, that brings back memories - my first DAC was a r-2r ladder on a
parallel output port, back in 1978. Fortunately technology has moved on
since then. :)

Hi guys,

i have ordered the official touchscreen for my picoreplayer. Everything
works fine. But there is something wrong in the right corner of the
display. There is a small square with different colours in it. These are
same colours as the dispaly boots. I mean this big square with different
colours on the startscreen. I hope you know what i mean. Is the dispaly
broken? Can somebody help me?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite in Antique Bakelite radio

2016-01-17 Thread hagensieker

This is an update on my project.

Pi B+
IQAudio DAC+
IQAudio AMP+
Raspian Jesse
Jivelite
Rotary encoders
3 Amp Power Supply

Took a Crosley 1950's era E-15 case which oddly enough fit the Raspberry
Pi Official Touch Screen PERFECTLY. No mods, no cutting. It's almost
like they predicted the advent of tablets.

Got a couple 6" L Brackets at Lowes, with short stand offs at the top
and longer ones on the bottom to correct for the minor tilt.

I need to mount the rotary encoders and find some big old Chrome knobs
and I guess it'll be done. Also might add a headphone jack and I need
to pair it with some speakers. Ideally I'd love some old Bakelite
enclosure speakers but probably just stick with some bookshelf speakers
I already have.

Also need to make a back for the thing as well I guess.

What a blast. I'm about 90% done but just taking it slow. IQAudio
stuff sounds quite great as well. I'm surprised.

I am not a Big Fan for usernames and passwords in a shellscript - that
mount should be in /etc/fstab...
Since i have no clue about that squeezeplug (ask Truehl) i leave that
line even when i -hate- / dont like the unsecure "welcome scriptkiddy"
scripts.

I EVEN HAVE NO CLUE WHY THAT SLEEP IS ADDED - SO I LEAVE IT WHEN ITS
MOUNTED BUT OTHER THATN SLEEP AFTER THE RSYNC - WE USE THE TIME THAT
CHOWN NEEDS AS YOUR SLEEP.

Code:

#!/bin/bash

  #vars:

  echo "/timecapsule is mounted"
  sleep 15s

echo "Changing ownership of music to user $myuser and group music."
  chown -hR $myuser:music /data
  echo "ownership changed"
  umount /timecapsule
  echo "timecapsule unmounted."
echo "Now its Time for a rescan"
  squeezeboxserver-scanner --rescan --novideo --noimage
  echo "exiting. Enjoy the music."
  }

  if [ "$(whoami)" != "root" ]

The microUSB cable used to deliver power is quite important. I solved my
power issues with one of 'these cables'
I'm powering a Pi2 with IQaudioDAC+ and 7" screen with one of those
cables from a 3 x USB power supply from Ikea rated for 2.4A for a single
output.

Do you have PS to Raspberry Pi and the USB from Pi to screen? If so,
this is backwards. Try PS to screen first, the screen provides power to
PI. May need short USB to MicroUSB.

There is no doubt that you have a undervolt issue:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=82373 it can be
because of insufficient power supply or because the connecting wire is
too thin and results in a voltage drop.

This is discussed several times in the raspberry forum:

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelit

2016-01-17 Thread mfsoa

Dear Community,

I've been using piCore Player on a new Pi 2 model B, taking data via
wired ethernet and feeding a Marantz SA8005. Everything works great via
hifiberry digi+ w/ toslink, through 24/192. I have trouble using the
coax spdif, w/ no sound when using a wall wart and some sound but w/
dropouts using a Jerome linear power supply I used to use for my Touch,
so I guess the coax issue is power-related but anyway that's not why I'm
writing.

When using USB, I occasionally get a horrific loud continuous
white-noisy kind of continuous hissing static. Sometimes I can tell when
it's about to start - the music starts to "tear" or "spit" and I know
"oh crap here it comes".

Sometime it plays OK for hours but I never know when I'll get blasted.

I've tried a few different USB cables -no difference. The static seems
to happen more frequently when I switch tracks. Happens on 16/44 w/ or
w/out upsampling as well as w/ higher-rez either upsampled or not.

Thinking this may be a buffering issue I added buffering to the Buffer
Size Settings tab (tried 4:4000, I think). I thought this fixed it
but then it came back.

I noticed that when I turned the volume all the way to 0, via a Duet
controller, that the hissing stopped, and came back full volume when the
volume was set to 1 out of 100%. Sometimes I hear music playing through
the static and even at volume level 1 out ouf 100% this music plays at
full volume. Thinking that the whole static issue is somehow related to
the volume control I disabled it but the static still comes back.

So I don't use the USB anymore which means no DSD.

I'm left thinking that this may be a quirk of the Marantz, where it
sometimes loses the USB connection and responds with a full-volume blast
of white noise. Very unpleasant as you can imagine.

Any ideas? Any hints? Better yet any solutions? I installed the piCore
2.0 and same problem.

One thing I didn't try was to remove the digi+ to see if it has any
impact on the USB.

I'll try to borrow another USB dac so I can check out this issue and the
coax issue as well.

Thanks in advance for any assistance! (although my setup does still
sound great through the toslik!)

-Mike
