Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-02 Thread Greg Erskine

Hi Howard,

I can understand your frustrations!

Although we have documented the limitations and given warnings many
times all over the place, it really depends on when you came into the
conversation, and it is highly possible to download and install the
Audio version missing all the warnings, which is what you have probably
done.

The situation is probably a result of the "non-commercial" nature of
piCorePlayer. There will always be a few rough edges, probably more than
a few. :)

Just to be clear: The Audio Optimization kernel is not for LMS servers.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-02 Thread Howard Passman

Hi Paul, Not sure what wasn't clear. probably talking about 4 different
pi's with 4 different uses. I will say that when someone offers a "Audio
Optimized" anything, a lot of us will jump at it. It kind of insinuates
it would be useful for anything related to music reproduction. Some of
us use the server a a player. In my case, the pi I use in my car has a
thumb drive with a music library on it. It makes perfect sense to me to
use it as a server and a player. It has the added utility of being able
to hook it to a pair of powered speakers and use it around the pool.

That said, I'm starting to understand the Audio Optimization kernel, so,
o.k., I get it. Use it on a Ethernet connected, sever use device only.

Yeah, I'm a little put off. I have on many occasions admitted my lack of
understanding when it comes to the voodoo you guys do. If I have to be
able to understand instinctively what it is you're doing, then I and
folks like myself, should stick with the iPod or SONOS. I get the
feeling Logitech felt it wasn't worth supporting uneducated users
either.

Howard,

Please dont take this the wrong way. But I cannot follow anything
you said.

One thing that seems to be a common thread..folks are using the
Audio Optimized kernel, and have no idea what it actually does. These
versions are tweaked to reduce latency, They should not be setup as a
server or use WiFi, as all that stuff just reintroduces latency that we
are trying to control.

please dont use that version unless it is understood completely
how RT kernels operate..

better to you, then great.

Hi Paul,

I am using a Pi ZeroW, so no problem there.

Thanks for your reply about 3.5 (I started working with this back in
February which is why I was still on 3.2)

Are you aware of a problem with the library being shown as "empty" on
3.5? I setup everything fine (fresh install from the download link you
provided above) made all settings as per 3.2, the library media scan
worked ok in that I can see on the :9000 page "1824 albums with 23738
songs by 743 artists. However, the "My Music" folder is empty and when
I connect with my Squeezebox Classic it says the music library is
"empty". I've rebooted twice and also re scanned the library.

I've searched the 3.5 thread and no-one else seems to be reporting the
issue, any idea what it could be?

Thanks for the feedback.

Another question: in the past the old Audio Optimized version was not
suggested with WiFi.
What about the new Real Time Kernel one?
Moreover and generally speaking, when is the new one suggested?

Today I am running 3.22 + WiFi + USB DAC Teac UD-503, playing 24/384
FLAC without any issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-02 Thread Howard Passman

I guess I spoke a little too soon. I update my pi3B to 4.0AudioCore and
WiFi didn't work so I went back to 4.0.0-B5 and WiFi still doesn't work.
Is there a way to go back to 3.50? Not listed on the available updates.

Also, went ahead and update an old pi B. It actually worked fine up
until I tried to access the server, other than just play or selecting
and playing a playlist. When I tried to look at the server (Music
Source) it stopped. If I reboot it, I can once again choose a playlist
and play it. Until I try to select any other menu item, it plays. I
reverted to 4.0.0-b5 and WiFi works, but access to the server is iffy.
One time you can make a selection, such as Albums, and it works and then
next time it times out and just spins for a few minutes. After a few
minutes it will start playing again and you may or may not be able to
make a selection. When it times out I still have access through the web
interface so I'm confident the WiFi is still working when it can't
contact the server.

The pi3B+ I have works fine. I don't use WiFi, but I do use AP Mode and
that works fine. Oddly enough that one is a server (LMS) and I am using
4.0 AudioCore. Everything seems fine with it.

I think I'll wait on updating the server, which is my 4th pi.

So I guess my only real question is how can I go back to 3.50 on two of
these pi's.

Thanks,

Howard

2018-08-02 Thread Howard Passman

I've updated two out of 4 of my pi's with perfect results. I do have a
question about something I may have just noticed.

Was there a warning about running LMS with the AudioCore in 3.5.0? I've
been running two of my pi's that way on 3.5.0 and haven't had any
issues.

I can change it on my home server, but am still using one of my pi's,
which is a server, for outdoor and car use. I would like to use the
AudioCore if possible.

Thanks for all of the hard work.

Thanks for the confirmation. Could this be flagged and monitored as a
reminder, maybe on the first page of the web interface and / or under
the Tweek section? I guessing most people won't do upgrades that often
and might forget about this additional step.

Greg,
1. If you could include the paste URL in your post it will make it
easier for us to find- not quite sure where that URL comes from, must be
from Pastebin, I will look out for it next time.
2. When you first did the 3.5.0 to 4.0.0-b5 upgrade and it didn't
connect, did you try multiple reboots? - yes, first by cycling power,
then when I had connected an ethernet cable I selected reboot on the
front page.
3. the wifi passphrase with this release of pCP. It is only generated if
you use the [Wifi settings] web page - I note that while the SSID and
the Password are populated on the settings page, if you only enter the
Country Code then you are asked to enter the SSIS, Password and Country
Code.
4. You have an interesting collection of SSIDs in your area. Are the 7
"dog" SSIDs on the same wifi router? Yes, the neighbouring houses are
weekenders and rarely occupied and when my children and their friends
would come to stay there was always a hassle with passwords so I added
"guest" networks with their respective network name and passwords. The
dd-wrt is from a sloppily configured router in our attached cottage.
5. I note that there is no "Ping LMS test" info. Is that normal for you?
No, there is normally Ping LMS test info, but the server may have been
off.

Now, I regard this not carrying the SSID and password through a major
upgrade as a minor "nice to have" that can be fixed in the fullness of
time, not a showstopper.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Picoreplayer HDMI I2S

2018-08-02 Thread samcklee

Hi All,

I have been using the Pi i2s either standalone or through Allo reclocker
and isolator successfully with many diy dac.

Recently my friend lends me a Singxer dac that does not have any CMOS
i2s but only a 3.3V Differential HDMI i2s connector. I have tried to
connect my Pi HDMI into this dac and select HDMI Audio on the
Squeezelite page but it does not work.

Is the Picoreplayer HDMI audio work by sending i2s audio out? or purely
only mean for connection to a TV HDMI? Can anyone enlighten me how the
Picoreplayer HDMI works?

Any help much appreciated.
