For the settings on reboot there is a menu item in the pCP specific part of Jivelite to make a backup - because pCP avoids writing to storage unless told to do it. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Noob Question - HDMI output with pCP/Jivelite and attached screen.
I don't remember if pCP is happy driving 2 screens. However, an alternative approach is to run some extra software to customise the output to a screen. I am sure that there is more than one set of tooling that does this - but I noticed this one was discussed recently. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?116489-Track-Info-etc-on-OLED-for-PCP I think the display part is generic and does not rely on using AudioSabre DAC. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Picoreplayer and HDMI output
I suggest trying the 32-bit pCP because pCP team often say that the 64 bit version brings its own issues. If that does not work then try removing the "hdmi" lines from the end of the file. If that still does not work then try putting a value in for gpu_mem ... perhaps 64 or 128 (and remove the # from the start of the line when trying it. The gpu_mem line should be "commented out" ... start with a # My last one is with someone else so I do not have the config.txt here. Best thing to do is post yours here (paste as text and surround it with (code) (/code) ... replace the round barckets with square ones ... plus state which pCP version you are running and paste in the text of the output of the list of devices after backup and reboot. In the past I have left those 2 lines in place and still used HDMI, but that was with KMS not FKMS. I read a description of them that said that they use HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) ... if that is the only way that they work then they might not work at all when directly connected to Raspberry Pi. So a suggestion ... see if you can get those HDMI connected speakers to work with a regular Raspberry Pi OS. If you can then it suggests that it should be possible with pCP once the correct incantations are found. You are multi-zone but the zones are very close together. Simply run an extra copy of Squeezelite with a different audio destination. You might have to write your own script but if you have found a description elsewhere then hopefully that guide will tell you how to do it. For the 2nd instance tell it to pretend to have a different MAC address so that LMS sees it as a different player - and give it a different name (eg sub). Just to double-check ... The system that you cannot reliably ping is where your LMS is installed. If you access the console you can stop LMS (by stopping the perl process that is running it). You can then check to see if the networking situation improves. If it doe then at least there is somewhere to research further. For example - something could be stealing all of the CPU and the system is unable to respond to pings etc in a timely fashion. Then you could remove the BBCSounds plugin from the file system and restart LMS. Then you could see if things are back to normal. It does seem unlikely though. If it does not work with a recent Raspberry Pi OS (I tested with 2022-09-22-raspios-bullseye-armhf ) then it is almost certainly not going to work with pCP. If using raspios then the only thing you have to do is sudo cec-ctl --playback because it defaults to using kms and the tooling is already installed. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Reading list in picoplayer ?
That warning is a general purpose reminder ... that you should shutdown LMS properly rather than simply turning off the power. pCP without LMS can tolerate simply being turned off because it once it is running it makes almost no use of the "disk". However, that changes when LMS is running. LMS frequently writes to the storage - and turning off while a write is in progress can make a mess of the file system and if it was writing the its underlying database then it is possible that LMS would not restart on reboot. The cursor keys work - which is enough to do basic things in non-grid skin. Would be great if someone in pCP team can repeat this success. I tried to repeat with 8.2 and it did not work ... Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] picoreplayer and plexamp headless on the same rpi
pCP is not a full blown operating system like Raspberry Pi OS ... so many things that you might think should be possible on a "regular" Linux system are not straight-forward in pCP. There is often a way to do it but at the expense of working out how the installer works for the application that you want. However, you can run Squeezelite on a regular Linux for Raspberry Pi. So while you lose the ease of use that pCP brings, you gain the ability to install and run pretty well anything that works on RPi. For SB Classic it is LMS that is (indirectly) driving the display so all of the controllable elements are in the LMS menu. For Radio (and Touch and Controller) it is the player (SqueezePlay/Jive) that is driving the display based on a different set of stats that LMS sends it. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer on RPi Zero W - first time wifi settings
Modern Windows Notepad can preserve line endings but I dont think it offers a save as choice. So if you start from a fresh file in Windows Notepad then it has Windows line endings. However, if your RPi is getting a reachable IP address then it is working. If pcp.local is not working (and you have not personalised the host name) then it implies, to me, that your Windows machine does not have mDNS support. For older versions of Windows, installing Apple iTunes is one way to get it. (not checked back to see which version of Windows you are running). LMS will not create that directory. If you can organise things so that the mount point etc on the new disk is the same as the old drive (move the old drive to a different mount point first) then you will not even need to rescan and all of the things that refer to a file by location will still work (eg playlists and, perhaps, ratings). LMS does not really care what the date is. The delay is probably pCP waiting for the time. You could try using the browser developer tools to trace the network activity to see if there is a request that takes a very long time to be responded to etc etc. On pCP 8 - the script that is being run is /var/www/cgi-bin/lms.cgi It does a bunch of things and then calls pcp_lms_status to see if LMS is running. Also some current models have 512MB - for example Raspberry Pi Zero 2W https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#raspberry-pi-revision-codes The models with less memory have, historically at least, had less powerful processors as well. So running LMS, Squeezelite on them does work but can be a bit slow - especially if you have a very large library. If you then try to run Jivelite on it as well then more memory is used up - especially where video memory is stolen from main memory. The general guidance has been to run LMS on a wired connection so that can sometimes limit its location. If it is in a cupboard under the stairs then it might not be a convenient place for a player (although some run audio cables over a long distance). My approach has been to always have a player on the LMS system. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Squeezelite is fine alongside LMS. Possibly on a 512MB Pi you would separate them but try it for yourself and be pleasantly surprised. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Have you set Ethernet as static IP in pCP - not the router? If you have then turn it off and see what happens. Main/Beta/Static If you have not set it there ... then the problem is that pCP is remembering the old IP address to reach LMS ... which is not reachable when the cable is removed. I am sure that this has come up before but I don't remember the solution. Someone will though. Or another way of saying it ... MS is installed as a plugin on LMS (and it can be installed on pCP where it is running LMS). It presents a web interface so needs a web browser to access it. pCP (today) does not have a web browser built in so to use MS on LMS on pCP you need something with a web browser ... like a modern mobile phone, tablet or computer with a desktop interface. Jivelite is the same software that runs on a Squeezebox Touch. It is a standalone application and not a web interface and does not provide a web interface for other systems to access.
