Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
A few months ago I discovered that gapless playback of Ogg/Vorbis files was not working flawlessly in piCorePlayer. The playback is gapless, but during the transition to the new track a small glitch is audible. I started a separate thread about it on this forum, but that remained silent unfortunately. In the meantime I have done a fair amount of extra testing and I hope this thread is a better place in search for a solution. Test hardware: RPI2 + HifiBerry DAC. LMS: 8.2.0 I have tested the playback with several piCorePlayer versions and other software: - piCorePlayer 8.x, 7 and 6 all give audible glitches - piCoreplayer 5 plays flawlessly - Squeezelite-X gives audible glitches - HifiberryOS & Squeezelize version 20211105 plays flawlessly - Foobar2000 plays flawlessly Of course the source files were 100% fine, ripped securely and 100% gapless. I also transcoded the Ogg/Vorbis files back to Wav and Flac, and *all those transcoded files play flawlessly on all tested versions of piCorePlayer and Squeezelite-X! * Although the glitches during gapless playback of Ogg/Vorbis are small and often only audible when transitions are rather quiet, there should be none because Ogg/Vorbis supports gapless playback by design. It might be related to Squeezelite, but I am not sure because of the fact that HifiBerryOS & Squeezelite works fine. And I am also curious why piCoreplayer 5 works fine, something must have changed in later versions. What can be tested more to find the root cause of this issue? *Living Room:* RPI2+HifiBerry DAC+ Pro & piCorePlayer *Attic:* RPI2+HifiBerry DAC+ RCA & piCorePlayer *Other rooms:* 6x SB Radio *LMS*: Version 8.2.0 on Xubuntu 21.10 zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 'Official' docker container for LMS?
I have done my first testing with x64 via docker-compose. I was successfully able to pull the 7.9.2 and 8.0 images, both 7.7.6 and 7.9.3 gave a 'manifest unknown' error. This must me something with the image-syntax/label in my compose file. The following tests on the 7.9.2 and 8.0 containers went fine, with the same, existing settings: - Create, scan and play music from a (docker-test) local library: mp3, ogg, flac - Config and play music via Spotty - Play several internet radio stations - Switch an existing player from my main music library to the 'docker-test- library I had a few hassles with port 9000 and LMS, because my docker-management tool Portainer by default also uses 9000. First I tried to remap LMS to another port, but then the local music library wasn't accessible for other players. In the end I remapped Portainer to something else, so LMS could run on 9000. Below my docker-compose: Code: logitech-media-server: container_name: lms #image: doliana/logitech-media-server:latest-7.9.2 image: doliana/logitech-media-server:latest-8.0 restart: unless-stopped ports: - "9000:9000" - "9090:9090" - "3483:3483" - "3483:3483/udp" volumes: # folder where lms stores its data (cache, logs, prefs) - ./lms_storage:/srv/squeezebox # folder where lms should look for music - /data/lms-music:/srv/music environment: # use time of host - /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro # use timezone of host - TZ=${TZ} As you can see I use an environment variable (.env file) for the timezone. What is the purpose of the localtime mapping, it seems double to me. *Living Room:* HifiBerry DAC+ Pro & piCorePlayer *Attic:* HifiBerry DAC+ RCA & piCorePlayer *Kitchen:* SB Radio *Other rooms:* 4x SB Radio zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

This is indeed possible, but on a regular Ubuntu/Debian installation you might run into hassles with the ownership of the sound device when running Squeezelite, especially when more users are active on the system. Btw: I am running LMS on self installed Linux systems for 10 years now (Debian Stable and Xubuntu LTS) and also experimented with a separated /var plus different locations for my music collection. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] install lms on linux
This is of course possible, but requires some basic linux skills. My first question is: what do you mean by 'boot disk'? Is this the disk where your entire linux system is installed? And is LMS installed via a deb-package? The basic installation of LMS is not that big, but the database + artwork etc. can grow hefty. Those data is stored in /var. So the most pragmatic solution in your use case is probably to create a separate partition on a different disc for entire /var. You need to create a mount point as well of course. The exact steps depends on your specific installation, but I think several examples/tutorials can be found on the internet quite easy. *Living Room:* HifiBerry DAC+ Pro & piCorePlayer *Attic:* HifiBerry DAC+ RCA & piCorePlayer *Kitchen:* SB Radio *Other rooms:* 4x SB Radio zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112030 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I remember experimenting with a delay times, but that didn't work 100% for me. My manual workaround is a restart command for LMS in /etc/rc.local. I don't know if that is a solution for PiCoreplayer systems. I am still hoping for a permanent solution of course. Yes, this is an old one but... After a few months of experience with the solution above, I have to resurrect this post :p In the end the boot sequence tweak only solved part of the problem: Internet Radio indeed worked fine this way, but Triode's Spotify plugin didn't. After a regular reboot or startup of the system Logitech Media Server still needed a manual restart before Spotify worked. So I'm back to the /etc/rc.local workaround. The issue must have something to do with the combination of: - Startup sequence of several services / processes of the system: the network by default is started AFTER Logitech Media Server. - The startup scrips of Logitech Media Server. - Upstart compatibility (in the future: Systemd). - Network Manager Question: Is there a more elegant solution possible than /etc/rc.local? In the end I still think a more fundamental change in the startup scripts of Logitech Media Server is needed for Debian/Ubuntu based systems. zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102220 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Xubuntu 14.04 startup sequence of LMS
Tnx. Fiddling around with the Boot Up Manager did the trick; I changed the start / stop priority of LMS to 98. It seems to work, although the network itself is managed by Upstart and cannot be configured via this tool. zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102220 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
[SlimDevices: Unix] Xubuntu 14.04 startup sequence of LMS
I am running LMS 7.8.0 on a Xubuntu 14.04 server installation and am I having an issue with the startup sequence of the network and LMS. LMS, by default on my system, starts before the network interfaces. Therefore LMS is not able to log into mysqueezebox.com automatically. This means that I am not able to listen to Internet Radio. The network interfaces of my server are managed by NetworkManager and I don't want to change that. As a workaround I have added a restart of LMS in /etc/rc.local, but this is not a very nice solution IMHO. Is there a better solution for my problem possible? As far as I understand LMS is using traditional start/stop scripts and is not using upstart or other init-daemons technics, maybe that complicates the situation? zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102220 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
