Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

Hi

I cannot install this, can't find "libftdi.tcz"

Someone has already logged an issue for this but no response so I guess
Slimmer is abandoned?

Has anyone installed recently with any success? Or, would someone be
willing to share an image of their working PI?

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2021-03-26 Thread penrodyn

Hello there,

Slimmer on PiCorePlayer is EXACTLY what I need, however I'm I finding it
doesn't seem to work following the instructions on the latest build of
PiCorePlayer.

Has anyone installed from scratch recently with an I2C 20x4 LCD, and if
so I'd love to know what version of PiCorePlayer "just worked". I have
no issue doing some extras on top of the original instructions I just
feel I'm shooting in the dark at the moment.

Having said that, if anyone knows of an alternative distro for Audio
which allows menu navigation via the LCD and some GPIO buttons I'm all
ears.

Thanks in advance
Lee

2021-02-20 Thread Anduliu

Good day.
I've been struggling with this installation for days, on my old
Raspberry B +
I have done all the steps and install all the dependencies
libftdi is installed as they say on page 16
md5sum -c libftdi.tcz.mdt.txt
as indicated in the forum, although the second download does not work.
lcdproc-server works fine in testing with my i2c 16x2 display
The problem arises in slimmer, which already gives errors in the tests
and obviously nothing works after the restart.
I'm already lost and I don't know what to do

Hey! So glad you've been able to get slimmer working on pcp7 - I'm
currently trying to get it working on my pi4. However, I cannot find
libftdi.tcz in any of the repos from pcp web interface. How did you get

slimmer.conf is OPTIONS="--lmshost 192.168.1.202 --lmsport 9000 --input

Hi,

after getting Slimmer up and running in PiCorePlayer 6, I am now trying
to activate the remote control again.
I installed under Tweaks> IR-Page Lirc, set the correct GPIO port and
uploaded my own lircd.conf.
The remote control also seems to work, the commands
Code:

irw

 and
Code:

mode2 -d /dev/lirc0

issue the remote control commands correctly.

Next I found the Lirc event number.

Code:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices
  I: Bus=0019 Vendor=0001 Product=0001 Version=0100
  N: Name="gpio_ir_recv"
  P: Phys=gpio_ir_recv/input0
  S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/ir-receiver@1b/rc/rc0/input0
  U: Uniq=
  H: Handlers=kbd event0
  B: PROP=0
  B: EV=100013
  B: KEY=fff 0 0 4200 108fc32e 2376051 0 0 0 7 158000 4192 4001 8e9680 0 0
1000
  B: MSC=10

But when I start Slimmer with
Code:

--input /dev/input/event0

the software doesn't respond to the commands.

Does anyone have any idea why?

Best regards
PiPlayer

Hi Guys,
slimmer is a helpful tool to get my own "radio" working.
As I'm not familiar with programming so I'd like to ask you if someone
has a tip.
As I can see on github there is a feature for turning on and off the
backlight of the display by lcdproc. But this is not included in the
last compiled version. So how do I get the latest version onto my
device?
Another useful function would be a POWER Button which controls the LMS
Clients Power status. At the moment I use SBPD but this is not
compatible with pikeyd. Once I run SBPD pikeyd stops working.
Is there a option to fire a shell command (eg. pcp power) from pikeyd as
slimmer cannot handle a power command?

Thanks a lot!

It was a test build which supports Pi 3. Now that is already in the
bundle, so there isn't any new build for your problem.

Sorry, but I don't have any Pi 4s, nor time, so can not develop any
solution for that problem. I would try some other method to inject
keyboard events for Slimmer (like lirc with a remote or some pikeyd
alternative), or I would use an older Pi with pikeyd.

The problem is that pikeyd thinks the GPIO base address is at
0x2020, but it must be somewhere else on the Pi 4. There is some
code in pikeyd which tries to find out what the GPIO base address is,
that should be revised/updated.

(from the other thread I linked to you can see that there are easy hacks
and slightly more complicated but more platform independent changes that
could be made to pikeyd assuming that the only issue is the base
address)

I see that pikeyd has not been changed for 7 years.
Perhaps this thread from Raspberry Pi forum would help someone who wants
to update it
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=244031

However, do you need pikeyd/lcdproc to achieve what you want to do?
There might well be other ways to do it now that already work on RPi4.

Hello, im try to install lcdproc-server, slimmer, and pikeyd to
raspberry pi 4 with picoreplayer 6.0.0.
On repository "Official PiCore repo" is not found libusb-compat.

Here is my solution:

Download the libusb-compat from ibiblio
wget
xxx://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/9.x/armv7/tcz/libusb-compat.md5.txt
wget
xxx://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/9.x/armv7/tcz/libusb-compat.tcz.md5.txt

sudo tce-load -i libusb-compat.tcz

Copy to auto install directory and add to onboot.lst.
cp libusb-compat.tcz* /mnt/mmcblk0p7/tce/optional/.

Open onboot.lst
sudo vi /mnt/mmcblk0p7/tce/onboot.lst

Add the flowing line:
libusb-compat.tcz

On raspberry pi 4 the pikeyd not work - im have the problem with memory
maping:
tc@piCorePlayer:~$ sudo /usr/local/sbin/pikeyd
Config file is /etc/pikeyd.conf
Polling 5 GPIO pin(s).
Found 0 I/O expander(s).
Ready.
GPIO base: 0x2020
mmap: Operation not permitted
Failed to map memory
tc@piCorePlayer:~$

Please help with pikeyd compiled for RPI4?

Thanks Asen

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2020-04-10 Thread piPlayer

Hello, I found the solution myself. The pikeyd service could not be
started because the kernel module /dev/uinput in pcp6 is not started.
The solution was to enter the "modprobe uinput" command in the
/opt/bootlocal.sh file before pikeyd was started.
Here are my installation steps for "Slimmer" under pcp 6.0.0:

- Open the Picoreplayer web interface
- Execute Resize FS (100MB)
- Install ipv6-4.19.105-pcpCore.tcz from PiCorePlayer repo
- Install libusb-compat.tcz from the Official PiCore repo
(if this error occurs: mount: / tmp / tcloop / libudev: failed to setup
loop device for /mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/optional/libudev.tcz)
- Press "load" a second time to completely install the extension
- Establish an ssh connection with Putty
- cd /mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/optional
- wget
http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/9.x/armv7/tcz/libftdi.tcz
- wget
http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/9.x/armv7/tcz/libftdi.tcz.dep
- md5sum libftdi.tcz> libftdi.tcz.md5.txt
- continue according to instructions point 3 to point 15:
https://github.com/terba/slimmer/wiki/Building-a-player
- note: at this point, slimmer will not work properly yet
- Enter the following command at point 16:

cat >> /opt/bootlocal.sh << EOF
modprobe uinput
/usr/local/etc/init.d/lcdproc-server start
/usr/local/etc/init.d/pikeyd start
/usr/local/etc/init.d/slimmer start
EOF

- sudo filetool.sh -b
- Reboot

After Raspberry Pi has rebooted, Slimmer starts correctly.

Hello, I almost got slimmer running under PCP 6.0.0. The reason why the
executable slimmer does not start is that there is no input device named
pikeyd. The udev rule, which is included in the slimmer bundle, does not
seem to work. Here is the content of the rule:

SUBSYSTEM=="input",ATTRS{name}=="pikeyd",NAME=="input/%k",SYMLINK+="pikeyd",MODE=="6440"

Does anyone have any idea why the rule works under PCP 4.1.1, but not
under pcp 6.0.0?

Ok, thanks for the hint. A long time ago I recompiled the slimmer
executable from the source code for another player. If I use this
slimmer file, the backlight function also works via i2c. I did not know
that this function is not included in the slimmer bundle.

The backlight control code is commited in the Slimmer source repo, but
not released yet. So you have to build an executable yourself from the

Hello,

does the backlight off function work for you when the player is in
standby? For me, the display comes on as soon as voltage is applied and
always stays on even after the player has been inactive for a long time.
If I comment out "BacklightInvert=yes" in the file Lcdproc.conf, the
backlight goes out as soon as Lcdproc starts. So I think it should be
possible to control the backlight.

The libftdi extension in the tinycore 9.x repository has a 1 at the end
of the name, so it is libftdi1.tcz

I've uploaded libftdi1.tcz to the picoreplayer 10.x repository for
picoreplayer 5.x and 6.x and can be installed from the Extensions
section of the pcp web gui.

The libusb extension is already in the 10.x repo and loads okay.

It's a bit complicated. Tiny Core like distros mount the software
packages (the package files) over a loop device read-only. So you have
to change the slimmer.tcz package file, and put your executable into it.
Or you can put the binary somewhere in the home directory of the tc user
and store it permanently with -filetool.sh- and change
-/opt/bootlocal.sh- to start this one not the one in the package.
Theoretically.

runs alot after pCP has already started and playing music.
Further in detail: After reboot, the screen goes blank (expected), and
once pCP has rebooted LMS autostarts the song.
About a minute after this, the "Welcome" message is displayed, and the
correct song is displayed immediately after.
Is this expected? Did anyone else encounter this?

I'm using a Raspberry Pi 1 B+ with pCP player-only installed.

The services for slimmer are started after everything else in PcP (from
bootlocal.sh). So music may be audible before slimmer's screen come up.
But one minute looks too much.

You do not need the complete slimmer bundle. Slimmer uses the pikeyd
daemon to turn gpio input into keyboard shortcuts.
You can also use pikeyd without slimmer: 'link'
(https://github.com/dozencrows/pikeyd) However, you must create a .tcz
extension yourself.
Alternatively, you can use the squeezebuttonpi daemon: 'link'
The pcp-sbpd.tcz extension can be loaded from the picoreplayer web
interface.

Hello,

I want to use slimmer/LCDproc to drive the VFD display of my (broken)

and wrote a python script which sends the necessary info to my hardware
through a serial(GPIO) connection to my hardware. Because the python
script is somewhat sluggish I searched or another way. Then I stumbled
upon Slimmer. I already got it running on a HD44780 but I can't figure
out how to get the rawserial driver running through the GPIO serial
port.

Code:

echo "hello" > /dev/TTYAMA0

which popups on my VFD but when I activate the rawserial driver for
LCDproc nothing happens. I've been googling around for a while now but
can't find any solution up till now. Any idea how to tackle this? Thanks
in advance.

Hi Tbali,

For me an audio player must be able to adjust volume without delays and
menu selection. I grew up with analoge amps and a big dial for volume,
and pause buttons on tape and CD players , and that is the way I still
prefer it on my media players. Also with jivelite I need a volume knob
as the slider isn't in all screens.
I will test slimmer first before I judge it. I've got an 1602 screen
here that should work for a first test.

Hi Tibali,

I just got my pi running wit external buttons and rotary control from
the QueezeButtonPi software.
My next goal is to add a display and see if a TUI ( Text User Interface
) is working for me.

As this project is adding HW buttons for functions , and a rotary
controller, Using both at the same time is likely to create a conflict.
Has anyone already used both ? And what pitfalls do I need to avoid ?

The obvious one is double pin assignment/usage, and should not be too
difficult to keep separated.
And I will read the whole thread again to be up to speed on this .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-12-09 Thread tbali

Hi,

Is the -Size=20x4- option set correctly in LCDd.conf in the hd44780
section? I think your hardware must be correct, if some text appears on
the display. My tip is some configuration problem on LCDproc side.

You can also test if slimmer works OK. If you change your LCDd config to
the -curses- driver and run LCDd in the foreground. It will emulate the
screen on the console (ssh terminal session) you are running LCDd. I
think I added the curses driver to the piCore package too, but I'm not
sure.

Or you can connect to LCDd (localhost) with telnet and type the required
commands in, to display some test strings on your LCD.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-12-09 Thread hlarsen2

Hi,

I have tried to add the Slimmer "package" to my piCorePlayer, to get a
LCD display showing what the player is player. I am a bit stuck in
getting it running smoothly, as my 4 lines display only shows 2 lines -
and not even at the same time :(

When playing, only the first line is on, showing the playing time and
track number. If I turn the rotary encoder, line 3 will show the volume
bar. But I cannot get any "Artist", "Album" or "Song title" to show up,
as is shown on the Slimmer page.

My setup is as follows:

- Running piCorePlayer version 3.21 on a Raspberry Pi A+.
- Slimmer installed as shown on the
  "github.com/terba/slimmer/wiki/Building-a-player"- site.
- Hitachi 20x4 display, with i2c interface (incl. 3,3V to 5 V
  bidirectional level conversion interface).
- The LCDd.conf is configured as shown on the
  "github.com/terba/slimmer/wiki/Using-an-i2c-LCD"-site, with the
exception of the i2c address which has been changed to 0x3F.

I have tested the display and i2c interface on an Arduino, and it works
perfect.

There is obvious something which I have missed, but I cannot figure out
what. Can anyone help me with some clues?

Hi! I also had this idea as the original SqueezeBoxes also scroll like
this. But it is out of my reach, because lcdproc's LCDd does the
scrolling by itself. You can open a feature request at their site:

The "hold" a key actions don't work with the keyboard nor LIRC as it
uses the keyboard input chain as well.

I've only been able to use the hold action with LIRC using the
lirc_client library which we're using in the squeezelite IR
implementation. ie. holding the pause button for stop.

Ah, good to know - that makes it much more comfortable to handle these
"special user things".

Do you know something about the keyboard commands selecting LMS
favourites/presets in jivelite?
The only thing I could find was the 'InputToActionMap'
in the github repository.
The list shows several combinations to store and recall presets, but
when I test the commands with a standard usb keyboard (qwertz) none of
them seems to work. So this seems to me not to be a pikeyd but more like
a jivelite problem.

Simply adding the

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-07-24 Thread mff

Is it possible to get pikeyd working together with a touchscreen in pcP?

My goal is to get a working touchscreen (already running) and some
additional hardware buttons for volume and presets.
When I try to set

Code:

/usr/local/etc/init.d/pikeyd start

at the end of bootlocal.sh it seems to be ignored.
When the line is added before the pcP "internal rebootstuff" only pikeyd
is recognized as input and no more touch input is working. :(

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-07-09 Thread ElFishi

Got it working, but I would appreciate a hint how to do it right.

I copied the content of /etc/udev/rules.d/99-slimmer.rules to a new file
98-lircd.rules and changed from piked to lircd like this:

Code:

SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{name}=="lircd", NAME="input/%k",
SYMLINK+="myremote", MODE="0644"

added /etc/udev/rules.d/98-lircd.rules at the end of
/opt/.filetool.lst

I now get /dev/myremote and can change slimmer.conf to

Code:

OPTIONS="--lmshost 192.168.0.115 --lmsport 9000 --input /dev/myremote
--encoding ISO-8859-2"

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-07-09 Thread ElFishi

So, next challenge:
I can get LIRCd to run with -uinput by the way Ralpy describes. I can
also configure my own lircd.conf file so it contains the right keys for
slimmer. And I can start slimmer with

Code:

--input /dev/input/event0

and have slimmer react on my remote.
Practically I don't seem to have a problem, as lirc consistently comes
in as event0.

I have tried the udev rule from the 'wiki '
(https://github.com/terba/slimmer/wiki/Using-a-remote)and put it in a
file called 98-lircd.rules in /usr/local/etc/udev/rules.d/ .
But it doesn't seem to do anything. At least I don't get a file
/dev/input/myremote .

Wrong place for the file? Rule no good?
Any help appreciated.

TBH the pcp startup process is complex to handle all the options we
support.

It's easiest to install using the webgui as you've done.

Then change the configuration so pcp considers it not installed by
changing changing IR_LIRC="yes" to IR_LIRC="no"

sudo vi /usr/local/sbin/config.cfg

Then set lircd to start from the user commands on the tweaks webgui
page.

/usr/local/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc0 --log=/var/log/pcp_lirc.log
--uinput

Save the config and reboot

Excuse me if I'm being thick:

If I install LIRC via the tweaks page in the pCP web gui, the squeezlite
command line is automatically extended by -i and the LIRCd command line
does not get the --uinput option.
Is there a way I can tamper with these commandlines?

Without pCP I don't know how to install LIRC.

Make sure squeezelite is NOT running with the -i lirc.conf option and
that lircd is run with the --uinput command line option.

thanks for chiming in.
So how would I go about to make squueezelite stop listening to lirc and
instead have lirc inject keyboard events that slimmer can pick up?

Depends on how pcp is configured.

Running only squeezelite, then the lirc_client linked to squeezelite is
used to read IR events from lircd.

Install jivelite and lircd is reconfigured to inject the IR events
through uinput to emulate a keyboard and the IR option is removed from
squeezelite so that both are not trying to read IR events.

pcp has different lircd.conf files for each mode.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Slimmer

2017-06-30 Thread ElFishi

I'm still waiting for my IR receiver.
In the meantime I finished the buttons/encoder and hooked them up.

Made a funny observation:
The encoder worked to wrong way: clockwise decreased volume, CCW
increased.
So I figured I only need to swap the pin numbers in pikeyd.conf.
Wrong: swapping the pin numbers does nothing. I needed to swap the keys
to

Code:

ROT 6 13 KEY_RIGHT KEY_LEFT

I don't know, but I think if you install it with pCp, you can easy
reconfigure it and save the new config with filetool.sh.
