2010-10-26 Thread Bob Earp
Dear all,
I realize this is from the competition (well, sort of a competition !!), but
there are some good points in the published white papers that SumTotal Systems
has on-line at www.sumtotalsystems.com/resources/whitepapers.html

Enjoy !!

RE: libURLftpCommand help required please....

2010-05-24 Thread Bob Earp

Many thanks for the replies on this.Mark/Jim - I've played around with
quotes/no quotes, changing the address elements to include ftp.ashford.ca,
httP://ashford.ca and combinations thereof, but I still get the error message
error invalid host address. I'm using Rev Enterprise v4.0.0 build 950 BTW.If
it helps, I do get stuff returned without and error if I use put url
http://test:myt...@ashford.ca; into fld resultsDave - It wasn't the LIST ftp
command I was after, I just used that as an example of an ftp command that (I
assumed) the libURLftpCommand would do as it seems to say that in the
dictionary. I also tried HELP as the dictionary suggests, but I still get the
same error. What I want to do in the end is read seta file permission on
the server. Right now there is one file named test.txt on that URL that has RW
set, and of course you can see it at www.ashford.ca/testFYI, it is put
libURLftpCommand(HELP,ashford.ca,t...@ashford.ca,myTest) into fld
results that gives me the error invalid host address message, yet in an
ftp client such as FileZilla I can use ashford.ca as the host address,
t...@ashford.ca as the username, and myTest as the password, and it all works
fine.Thanks again for the feedback help.best, Bob...Bob Earp - White Rock,

libURLftpCommand help required please....

2010-05-22 Thread Bob Earp

I'm trying to send an ftp command to a site, and being a neophyte at these
things I'm not having much success. This is what I'm using, what's wrong with
it ?
put libURLftpCommand(LIST,ashford.ca,t...@ashford.ca,myTest) into fld
results
The example above is using LIST as the ftp command, ashford.ca as the host
address, t...@ashford.ca is the username and myTest is the password. If I use
the same parameters in FileZilla all works OK. Yes, these are all real
parameters, at least until I get things going and delete the ftp site ;-)
Eventually I'm hoping to read write permissions of a file in that location.
When I finally get things going I promise I'll share a sample app that demos
how this all works, for anybody who is interested. Then again, maybe there is
one already out there somewhere ?
Many thanks in advance, Bob...

Setting file permissions on remote server

2010-05-21 Thread Bob Earp

I have an app that reads/writes from/to a data file on a remote server. So far
there's only been one user of the app, but I wish to allow a number of users to
use the app in different locations, which means I have to consider the case
where more than one user wants to write to the file at the same time.
I was thinking that setting the data file's permissions read only with the
first user to open the file would be the easiest way to solve this, but can't
seem to get that going. Maybe there is an easier way, or more probably I'm
just being a dufus here ;-)
In any event, does anybody have some words of wisdom/guidance, or better still
a sample ?
Many thanks, Bob...

Judy, if you haven't seen it take a look at the BBC series The Last Enemy.
It was on PBS under their Masterpiece Classic program, but you can see all
about it at http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/lastenemy/welcome.shtmlI think it was
produced around the time national identity cards were being considered in the
UK, and is another one of those great British conspiracy series.If you like
such things, there's also the classic House of Cards trilogy which is really a
modern day Macbeth in both plot and acting. Brilliant !!

The Brits beat us to it on that one; it's a UK requirement AFAIK to have

enthusiastically jumping down that same stupid rabbit-hole.

Re: Import temperature and switch on/off the heater with Rev

2009-02-03 Thread Bob Earp

Paolo, to my knowledge there is no capability within Rev of communicating with
a USB port, although I think Chuck had been working on something along time
ago.I've been wanting to use a Rev project as an interface to the aircraft
simulators we build and have been working on getting Rev on OS X to talk to a
PLC for some time now, unfortunately with limited success. As mentioned in
other posts, Rev communicates quite well with serial ports, but alas they don't
come on Apple platforms. I've been using an IOGear USB to Serial adapter, but
for some reason the system seems unstable. The last time I tried it I kept
getting what appeared to be a bit shifting on the response from the PLC and got
so frustrated I gave up.I've been using an EZ-PLC which is very economical, but
the support for low level serial port communication is almost non existent.
I've recently discovered the Arduino (which was invented in your part of the
world) and am now considering communicating with that via ethernet.If anybody
has more to add on this subject I'd be extremely happy to hear about it !!best,
Bob...

Slightly OT - finding time

2008-08-13 Thread Bob Earp

Dear Eric, Chip, Ray, Scott, Sara, Devin, Andre, Klaus and all of the other
incredible and regular contributors to this list (sorry I can't list you all),
you must obviously have invented a new time machine and are only sharing it
between you. I need it !!

I find barely enough time to scan digests and maybe once in a year answer
something before at least 10 of you have provided solutions and wisdom I could
only dream of. Not only that, but you find time to write tutorials and
example stacks, and then sit and discuss the merits of one solution over
another. Sheesh... I wish !! How do you do this ??

I know its been said before (and hopefully Kevin Miller is reading this), but
without all of you Revolution would have gone the way of Oracle Media Objects.
He should at least give you all free lifetime upgrades if not shares in the
company.

On behalf of the rest of us (and I think I'm in the majority group), many, many
thanks for helping on a daily basis. No, correct that, it's generally on an
hourly basis !!

Warmest regards, Bob.

PS, what's happened to Dan these days?

Error with Quicktimeeffects.qtx identified

2008-05-07 Thread Bob Earp

When running a stack on an XP machine I get a Windows error reported as Error
Signature with the Modname as quicktimeeffects.qtx, a ModVersion of 7.4.5.67
and Offset 00035857 (whatever all of that means!!). I think the error happens
when an audio file is trying to start, but can't be sure. The weird thing is
I've only been getting this on one PC, others test OK. The stack is running as
a standalone.

As far as I can tell the machine in question is in the same configuration as
others that are OK, and the latest version of QT is loaded.

Anybody have any ideas??

Tnx, Bob...

David, maybe I'm missing the point, but why wouldn't you use a more graphics

are equally as good. Then again maybe you wished to build the buttons on the

Just wondering...

Missing Examples in document dictionary

2007-06-16 Thread Bob Earp

I've just loaded Rev 2.8.1 build 470 to a new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.9
and the weirdest thing is that although I can access the Documents Dictionary,
the are no Examples being displayed in the definitions. The word Examples is
shown but there is just blank space underneath it. After the blank space there
is additional text as you would expect, just the examples are not shown.

With the help of Roger Guay (who has the same config and everything works
fine), we've uloaded/reloaded, got new copies of Rev from the site, and
compared file sizes. I have no plugins loaded and as this is the first time
I've run Rev on this machine I can't say I have s/w conflicts or not, however
there's not anything particularly weird loaded.

Anybody got any ideas ?? Could this be a OS or hardware problem on this
machine?  T

Re: Relative folder paths

2007-05-29 Thread Bob Earp
Bill,We needed to use relative paths for audio and video clips, plus graphics
in our CBT engine some time ago, and came upon the same problems as you.
Particularly as sometimes the projects were distributed via CD or DVD and we
had no control over what drive letter/name was being used. I'm not sure if our
solution will help you but I'm totally gob smacked to be able to offer
something to this group instead of continuing to be a leach on the Rev society
!!We overcame it by calling an initPaths handler (see below) called from an
openStack handler. We then wrote our own video and audio handlers that refer
to those globals. The graphics are handled by making sure we refer to just the
file name (not the path) in the Name property of the Image control, which is a
bit weird as sometimes it is displayed in the Property Inspector including the
current path and file name.You'll note that we had to deal with the paths
differently for MacOS vs Windoze. If you'd like the audio and video handlers
(which include the ability to stop the media via an ESC key press), I'd be
happy to upload them. They're very small. I seem to remember that Rev was
saying that relative paths were a new feature, but I haven't looked into it
recently as what we did solved our problem.HTH, Bob...on InitPaths -- get and

RE: Setting the default source path for Image controls

2007-01-18 Thread Bob Earp
Many thanks David, Jim and especially Tereza for your help.

I already use external folders for audio and video files, and set relative
paths for them when opening the stack, saving them in globals. They're easy as
you're setting the target file when you either play them or use a player.
The images were more difficult as I didn't want to set the fileName property of
every image control in the stack when opening it !!

I ended up setting the defaultFolder to the graphics folder path on opening the
stack (after doing the audio video paths), and then I just set the fileName
of each image control to the bare filename of the image (no path) when placing
the image control on a cd, and all seems to work fine.

The only weird thing is that if you are editing, you'll see the whole file path
in the Source field of the Image control properties window even though you've
only originally set it to just the filename. Maybe a logical way of doing
things, but confusing none the less !!

Thanks again, Bob...

Setting the default source path for image controls

2007-01-14 Thread Bob Earp
First a rant, rave... call it what you will, maybe even me being more of a
dufus these days after a recent birthday. Unfortunately I haven't had the
luxury of spending a lot of time with Rev over the last year, and am just
getting back into it, hence my reliance on its documentation, which has
certainly improved greatly since I last looked. However I'm still getting
extremely frustrated at having to rely on others to help me overcome what
should be a simple look-up in some reference material. This time it's trying
to find properties and messages for image controls.

The documentation Dictionary says To see a list of messages that can be sent
to an image as a result of user actions or internal Revolution events, open the
Transcript Language Dictionary page of the main Documentation window, and
choose Image Messages from the Show menu at the top. To see a list of all the
properties an image can have, choose Image Properties from the Show menu.
H... doesn't seem to be a reference on the main Documentation
window to the Transcript Libray and can't find no schtinkin Show menu.

Oh well, back to the source of all information, you folks :-)

I wish to set the default path for image controls, can this be done? If so
what is the property for it? Failing that, anybody know if a referenced image
(in an image control) can be relative rather than absolute?

Tnx, Bob...

Basic UI idiosyncrasies (bugs?) with 2.7.1 Win version

2006-05-19 Thread Bob Earp
Greetings from a very warm and sunny west coast, normally referred to by people
not living here as the wet coast

I just had a chance to compare Mac vs. Win versions of 2.7.1 (side by each) and
a number of basic UI idiosyncrasies (bugs?) really highlighted themselves on
the Win side of things, and I was wondering if this is new to v2.7.1 or just
new observations for me. The most frustrating one is not being able to get the
whole of the Rev UI and the opened stacks to be the topmost windows (with other
Win apps open), when clicking on any of the Rev UI windows or an open stack
window.

For example, if I have a stack open with the message box open (and no other Win
app running) I will see the basic Revolution interface bar, the Tools palette,
the Message Box window, and the stack window. If I now open, say, Win Explorer
it opens on the top of everything (correct/expected behaviour), but normal
Windows behaviour then means I should be able to click on any visible part of
the stack, or the Rev UI (Tools palette, Message Box, etc.) and everything to
do with the Rev UI including the open stack windows should all come to the
front. However, only the window you click on comes to the front, except in the
case of clicking on the main Rev interface bar and then just some of the Rev
components (not all !!) come to the front. I say not all as I know the
Documentation doesn't, but I haven't had time to try every component !!

I guess this is because Rev does not bind all of its components (and any open
stack windows) together, as is standard Windows practice with other apps.

I can't find anything on Bugzilla which is strange as I'm sure this sort of
behaviour has existed for some time. Am I missing a pref or something, or is
this really just life with Rev running in Windows ?

Thanks, Bob...

PS. setting the Backdrop to true does not help !!

(no subject)

2006-05-11 Thread Bob Earp
Thanks Phil. I too tried resizing the flds but the group is a bg obj and it
then grows to encroach on other areas, plus the blank/space didn't work for me
either. I was hoping there is an undocumented property of flds that looks
after vertical alignment. If there is then this list would certainly know
about it !!

text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Okay, I was a little too quick.
As I reread your request, you're looking for a way to grow and shrink the text
without changing the rect of the field, correct? I think your only other option
is to have a blank line (containing a space, or maybe empty would work) at the
top of each menu field, and let that first line grow and shrink in the opposite
direction of the rest of the text, so the text remains centered vertically in
the field. However, I messed around with that idea for a few minutes and was
not able to make it work as well as the 'grow/shrink field' approach. You could
indeed kluge it together by having your menu text in borderless transparent
fields that sit on top of fields with visible borders. That would give you the
visual effect I think you're after. Phil

Fld text vertical alignment - fld animation

2006-05-10 Thread Bob Earp
I have a group of flds that I'm using as a menu with a simple animation that
grows the size of text when rolled over, and shrinks the size of text (back to
the original) when the mouse leaves. The problem is that the text does not
stay vertically aligned in the fld, so the appearance is the text grows down
rather than grows centered.

I can kluge the size of the fld to make it look right, but..

Any ideas ??

Script at the group is:

on mouseEnter
 set the defaultCursor to hand
 repeat with i = 1 to 4
  set the textSize of target to (the textSize of target + 1)
  wait for .02 seconds
 end repeat
 put flushEvents(all) into temp
end mouseEnter

on mouseLeave
 repeat with i = 1 to 4
  set the textSize of target to (the textSize of target - 1)
  wait for .02 seconds
 end repeat
 set the textSize of target to the ATT_defaultSize of target
 set the defaultCursor to arrow
 put flushEvents(all) into temp
end mouseLeave

Re: RevMedia for CBT/eLearning

2006-04-26 Thread Bob Earp
The solution is not as easy as one would think !!

An awful lot has been written about sound pedagogical design (for adults at
least), and the jury is still out as to a single solution. Suffice to say
training programs tend to get written to suit audiences, cultures and subject
matter, and to do that requires an authoring environment with significant
flexibility if a team of authors are expected to deliver quality content to a
variety of clients.

Here's the conundrum...

If you have a tool such as Rev and a content developer capable of quality
scripting such as Dan Shafer (sorry Chip, he insisted I give him a plug !!) ,
then all is well. But RARELY do you find an affordable quality content
developer (one that understands and is skilled at adult instructional design)
that can script.

As such, one must provide an authoring environment that supplements scripting
skills as for sure you can't supplement quality instructional design skills
despite what some marketeers will say !!(e.g. our tool will produce a
training program in three clicks...)

Our experience is that most of the solution revolves around the ability to
break the learning down into tiny chunks (less than what a card contains) and
be able to freely navigate forward, backwards, and jump without the need to
script and all with logical transitions (both learning and visual). The other
part of the solution is to make what little scripting the content developer
does, as structured as possible without them even knowing it. This is so that
a team can develop a project with common standards and we can maintain it in
the long term.

We've done all of this (and much more) in other languages (the last being
ToolBook) and will do it in Rev just as soon as we can find a benefactor ;-)

best, Bob...

PS, I look forward to chatting with anybody of similar interest at RevConWest
where I'll bring the old development shell we have.

Re: RevMedia for CBT/eLearning (Preston Shea)

2006-04-25 Thread Bob Earp
Thanks for the reply Preston. Myself and colleagues have been developing CBT
stuff (mainly technical subjects that include mini simulations) for an awful
lot of years and have used most tools that could be referred to as RAD, and
some specialized CBT authoring products. Hypercard, SuperCard, and ToolBook
have been the tools of choice until Rev came along, and we are now using that
but only for simulations and RAD work.

The problem is that we have developed a major suite of authoring tools and a
very good navigation shell within ToolBook that increases our productivity
immensely while not requiring content developers to know much script. The
authoring/delivery environment is very robust and extremely well liked by
clients as they get to maintain their own projects with very little training or
skills. We are very slowly moving the TB stuff to Rev, but we've invested
years of development and don't have the luxury of a major project to pay for
the redevelopment. So when I saw RevMedia released that mentioned its use as a
tool to develop training, I was encouraged that maybe a new solution had
evolved.

However, over the years an awful lot of applications have said they were
training authoring tools (even PowerPoint !!), but almost none are a tool that
anybody seriously into the development of CBT/eLearning would wish to use. I
suspect that RevMedia falls into this category.

best, Bob...

You may get swamped with replies about using Rev for CBT/eLearning because
 the whole Card family of software has been used for this kind of
 programming since way back in the days of HyperCard. Has to do with
 simplicity of use and Apple's historic position in the education market, I
 suppose. If you check out the links here, on the Rev website and Rev web
 ring you'll find dozens, possibly hundreds of active developers in the
 education/training area. Many of them offer free modules for quizzes
 etc.This sort of show-and-tell is so simple to create with x-talk that most
 people seem to just make their own. I'm not sure what limitations in
 navigation you are thinking of, but if you post a specific question here you
 are pretty likely to get a solution.There are some products that promise
 drag-and-drop creation of eLearning software. I used one by Mmedia that
 was nifty but time consuming. There are some quizmaker gizmos out there that
 have a sort of fill-in-the-blanks interface that is even more idiot-proof.
 The problem is that if you want a product that is pedagogically sound and/or
 visually appealing, you end up having to write some sort of code instruction.
 There may be an easier language to pick up than Revolution, but I don't know
 what it is. Preston

RevMedia for CBT/eLearning ?

2006-04-23 Thread Bob Earp
Has anybody got comments/reccomendations about using Revolution Media as an
authoring tool for CBT and/or eLearning ?

It appears to have very limited navigation capabilities, and also basic things
like quizzes/tracking don't seem to be there, but of course that could be fixed
with some custom scripting.

Just wondering if anybody has tried to use it or thought about using it.

Text to speech engines for Windows

2005-09-15 Thread Bob Earp
What's the best English text to speech engine for Windows? I see there are
ones from Microsoft, WinSpeech, Lernout Hauspie, ATT, and maybe others.

Are there others for Spanish, Portuguese and French ?

Also, through searching I see references to SAPI 4.0, SAPI 5.0 and SAPI 5.1
(I assume) standards for these engines. Are there any problems associated
with a particular version and a release of Windows ?

OT - Reporting a socket packet pocket error...

2005-09-02 Thread Bob Earp
I sent the following to the ed list but obviously very few people are
reading that which is a shame because there's some good people lurking there
;-)

Anyway

The following was kindly sent to me by a friend: unfortunately I don't know
who the original author was other was or I'd quote them. I did take a litle
poetic license however (sorry in advance Dan). Try to read this as you
would read The Cat in the Hat, or similar.

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort,
and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation’s hopeless and your system’s gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
that’s repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall…

And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse;
then you may as well reboot and go out with such a bang,
‘cuz sure as I'm a poet the sucker’s gonna hang.

When the copy on your floppy’s getting sloppy in the disk,
and Dan Shafer's code instructions are causing you a risk,
then you'll have to flash the memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM,
and then quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mom !

Well, that clears up an awful lot for me when I use Rev on a Pee Cee…..

Happy Labour Day (note the spelling !!)

best, Bob…

Documentation - Webnotes

2005-08-19 Thread Bob Earp
The concept of Webnotes in the documentation seems like a great idea and
help solve a lot of issue that some folks have with Rev documentation (not
me of course ;-) ). However, the first time I tried Webnotes nothing
happened and on enquiry on this list it was suggested that the server was
temporarily kersplatzed.

I now see some Webnotes displayed (see \ keyword as an example) but the
icon (the little world one) for uploading additional notes is still
inactive. The print icon is also inactive !!

I can't find reference to activating either of these, does anybody know how

once you have selected to show them on the bottom of the Documents window,
but I still don't have an active icon to add/edit the Webnotes. The little
Globe icon (I believe it's the one to do this) is inactive: as is the
printer icon actually !!

Should I be activating this somehow?

Tnx, Bob...

Re: Bug 2722 on Windoze

2005-08-11 Thread Bob Earp

Dan,
Both word and words seem to work on WinXP, however words only seems to
work in the find, sort, search and numbers functions.

best, Bob...

PS, Rev is definitely quirky, that's why you love it ;-)

~~~`
I just updated BZ#2722 which deals with OS X's lack of recognition of
the word words in any context I can find. I'm not near my Windows
machine for a day or two but if someone can check this and confirm
that it's Mac or OS X only, I'd appreciate it.
And vote for the bug if you want. It's probably not hugely serious
but the docs clearly say you can use words but only the singular
works.
Bugzilla REALLY works !!
2005-08-11 Thread Bob Earp
I just thought I'd let the sceptics know that Bugzilla (aka Rev engineering
 support) REALLY works!!  Now saying that may indicate that I was a sceptic
too, well maybe ;-)
After posting [Bug 2931] Wrong/Omitted Revolution version number a very
short time time ago, I was pleasantly surprised to get a message today
saying it was fixed, yahooo!!
 and this was without any solicitation to others to vote for it.
For all those naysayers I'd like to comment that yes, Rev is quirky (at
least on Windoze) and you have to have patience to learn and become
confident with it, but the developer community trips over itself to help so
you're never far from expert and free support.  Put a $$ figure on that !!
Now I have even more confidence in Kevin, Mark and the rest of the Rev gang
in that they are listening to us and actioning requests, but please remember
they have a whole world to satisfy plus a bottom line to consider, so their
priorities may not be yours...
ActiveX control for Rev in PowerPoint ?
Does anybody know of an ActiveX control that will enable a stand-alone stack
I'm still learning the nuances of Rev (that's polite-speak for being dumb
Maybe adding a get flushEvents(all) to the end of your handler/s would
stop this ?
altPlugIns Icons
2005-07-25 Thread Bob Earp
For anybody interested, I have uploaded a tiny stack to my user space (Bob
Earp) that has 32 x 32 pixel icons for use with Chip's great altPlugIns tool
for Flexible Learning's Scripters Scrapbook, Richard's RevNet and Eric's
Color Picker and Resource Picker.  It's called altPlugIns_icons.rev
I certainly would not call these professional graphics, but they are a tad
better than a whote question mark on a blue background ;-)
Many thanks to an absolutely fantastic developer community and all of the
support you willingly give on an hourly basis.
best, Bob...
PS, Eric, I have yet to find a problem running your tools with Chip's
toolbar except for all of your bugs of course... just
kidding about the bugs, the tools are great !!
Re: Icons for plugins
2005-07-19 Thread Bob Earp
Thanks to all for responding to my request.  Unfortuantely Chip's altPlugin
only seems to accept .png as a graphic format, so I went ahead and made some
32 x 32 pixel .png icons for RevNet, Color Picker, Resource Picker and
Scripters Scrapbook.  They're not glamourous, but at least they are a tad
better than the default white ? on a blue background ;-)
I'd upload them to my space on the Rev server if I could get soembody to
send me a b. key to let me get on it (3 tries already to no avail), but
in the meantime if anybody would like a copy of the icons please e-mail me
at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: embed/install font
2005-07-18 Thread Bob Earp
Thanks Chip, I'll see if I can get this going however, I can't get some of
the customers to agree to loading anything at all on their machines, yeah,
go figure !!
I know I sound like a worn out record, but I really don't have a good answer
when they say to me but we didn't have to do this with your ToolBook
projects
Thanks again, Bob...
Bob,
Here's how I would probably go about this on XP..
1) Research what registry entries are changed in Windows when installing
a TrueType font
2) Suck up the font into your app:
set the uMyCustomFont of this stack to URL (binfile:C:/myfont.ttf)
3) On startup spit it back out:
  a) find the specialFolder(36) which gives you the current Windows
directory and append it with /Fonts:
put specialFolder(36)  /Fonts/ into tFontPath
check to see if your font exists
put myfont.ttf after tFontPath
if there is not a file tFontPath then
  put the uMyCustomFont of this stack into URL (binfile:  tFontPath)
  -- SET REGISTRY STUFF IF NECESSARY
end if
then check to see if you need a restart, or you can just start using the
font.
As mentioned, I believe there's a DLL somewhere which may make this
easier, but I don't know where.
Re: embed/install font
2005-07-18 Thread Bob Earp
I need this BIG time, and it mnay be a show stopper form me moving a whole
mess of customers form ToolBook (where this isa breeze to do) to Rev.  At
RevConWest Andre Garcia said that he thought he had a way of doing this by
using a custom property to store the font, but I haven't heard from him
since then.
Bob Earp - White Rock, BC.
I remember the days long ago in Hypercard where you could install a
font as a resource in a stack, and it 'just worked', even though we
were warned not to for some reason.
sqb
I'm creating a presentation and I need to be sure the user has access to a
Unicode font. I'd like to standardize on Bitstream's Vera font, which is
free and very good.
1) Is there any way to access the font dynamically without installing it on
the user's system? A while ago there was a thread Own fontsuite with
standalone? Several authors referenced the EXT.dll as a way to dynamically
access fonts on the PC. How is this done? Has anyone successfully employed
this technique?
2) If I can't access it dynamically, how do I install it? I purchased
InstallGadget, but that currently doesn't update the Windows registry upon
installation.
Any ideas on how to address this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Brad
Icons for plugins
2005-07-18 Thread Bob Earp
I'm using Chip's incredibly wonderful altPlugin to manage a bunch of other
great plugins, but a lot of the plugins don't seem top come with a 32 x 32
pixels icon by default.  Are there any available for specifically RevNet,
Color Picker, Resources Picker, and Scripters Scrapbook or do I have to
continue to generate my own ?
Is there a better way of scanning this list ?
2005-06-10 Thread Bob Earp
I continue to be amazed at how much useful information passes through this
list on a daily basis, and the incredible speed that one gets a response to
ones questions (many, many, thanks to all!!), however even with digests set
the time one spends browsing is a lot and I was wondering if anybody had
developed a stack to read the list in a more intelligent manner.
I seem to remember an old SuperCard stack that somebody had written to do
the same for the SC list, or then again it may have been an HC stack.
Yes, I have used the search feature and no, I am not about to try to learn
speed reading at my time of life ;-)
Thanks again for the speedy response.
Weird PC Transcript error problems....Help!!
2005-04-11 Thread Bob Earp
The following is repeatable on both an HP laptop and a desktop running
WinXP.  This along with a number of other inconsitencies of Rev on PC's is
driving me crazy to the point I'm on the verge of giving up on it, and I
really don't want to.  If anybody can help I'd appreciate it.
If I create a simple one card stack with a single button that has the
following script everything works fine;
on mouseUp
 put the ticks
end mouseUp
The ticks get put into the message box.
I can also create a simple one card stack with three graphics grouped and
named Foo, and a button with the following script, and everything works
fine;
on mouseUp
 hide grp Foo
 lock screen
 show group Foo
 unlock screen with visual iris open
end mouseUp
The group shows with an iris open, albeit at completely different speeds on
each machine.
However, if I add put the ticks in the second example as follows, I get an
unquoted literal error at the line unlock screen with visual iris open.
on mouseUp
 put the ticks
 hide grp Foo
 lock screen
 show group Foo
 unlock screen with visual iris open
end mouseUp
I can repeat this with other handlers and get different errors, but in every
case I do not get errors when doing the same on a Mac.
Is the error handling different on the PC ?   I have reloaded Rev a couple
of times and just accept the default settings regarding the script editor
etc.
Thanks for your consideration, Bob...
