H Thomas,

attachments won't work on this list, I'm sorry.

You say you have editted the 'physical_network' table. Then you say
listNetworks doesn't work. the networks that should be returned with
this call are not in the table 'physical_network'. These are in
'networks'. This table does refer to 'physical_network' so maybe some
logical key relation is broken? make sure you don't have any existing
networks where physical_network_id==205

Steven,

You'll have to give the community more clues as to what your
environment is. In a clean (lab) environment you would only have to
update the cloudstack packages/management server. But that is probably
not what you want.

update procedures are described in the docs, for several hypervisor settings.

Re: Can't destroy system VMs

2013-11-02 Thread Daan Hoogland
H Carlos,

I wouldn't know about the mshost and mshost_peer but they seem
alright. The expunging ssvm are a real problem. I think Ahmed
mentioned that as well. You are having problems getting your ssvm in
the air. All other things are consequential. This is the first thing
to look at. Check the logs and the SMLog on the hypervisor to see what
happens when cs tries to start a ssvm. By your db you can see that it
tried to start it several times. Those are the expunging vm_instance
entries.

Daan

You can try removing the cpvm and vr at the hypervisor and change
their state to 'Stopped' in the db.

I realize this question may be more related to Xen OSS/ XenServer however
all the suggestions I found to my problem implies working on the Xen server
while my Xen server is managed by CloudStack so a stopped VM in CloudStack
doesn't even show up on the XeServer.

I have to migrate a VM (installed with HVM drivers) running on Xen OSS. I
grabbed the whole logical volume in a file, mounted the file, did some
changes to grub configuration file and /et/fstab to refer to the new
devices names (xvda vs. sda), then I converted this raw image in VHD format
using Virtualbox tools. Finally I imported the VHD file as template in
CloudStack then I deployed a new VM based on this template. The VM starts
then shuts down quickly but using xenconsole, I was able to see the console

My colleagues and I had the same question. I think the domain system
is just not crystallized completely yet. Whether it is a design or a
technical limitation, it needs more work obviously. If you have
specific requirements for your domain admins, please create tickets
for them in jira.

If there are users wanting to work on requirements for that please add
a proposal for a hackathon at ccc europe at

hackathons so far

2013-10-17 Thread Daan Hoogland
Users and developers,

So far the list of hackathons on CCC Europe has taken a serious shape.
Don't forget to check and make sure your personal or company interest
is represented at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/CCC+Europe:

h2. hackathon proposals
|| chair || subject || description ||
| Daan/? | automated testing | Improve the quality of releases by
adding more unit and integration tests to our automated test-suites.
Discuss whether the present suites of unit tests and bvt are enough or
we might need more classes of tests (i.e. component level and a
seperation of integration from functional tests) |
| Daan/? | modularization and plug-ability | make cloudstack more
plug-able and maintainable by 3rd party vendors. At the moment several
mudularization efforts are on the way. The UI guys are working on
splitting css, the storare guys are driving towards a better
plug-model for drivers and at a system level work is being done on
better organizing the injection framework. These might be worth
separate hackathons but a measure of communication is no luxury. |
|wido| Review Ceph integration | Further review and improve the Ceph
RBD integration for KVM and also look at Xen |
|Sebastien ? | API Interfaces | (AWS refactor, GCE, OCCICIMI
standard): Discuss the state of our interfaces, plans for future,
needs etc. AWS interface might need a refactor, GCE is a new
interface, OCCI is a standard and Isaac Chiang has developed an
interface. We are missing a CIMI interface. |
|Sebastien ? | DOCs | We are having lots of talks about docs, they
have been split in a separate repo, we need to discuss format, release
life cycle, format etc.
 |
|Sebastien /Wido ? | KVM Agent re-factor | There has been
discussions/wishes to re-write the KVM agent in something else than
Java. Review architecture, define a plan, find developers :)
 |
|Sebastien ? | Ecosystem support | The are lots of tools in the cloud
ecosystem, we should talk about docker, ansible, cloud
foundry/bosh…etc.and define a plan to have great cloudstack support in
all of those.
|
|Abhinandan/Jayapal | Virtual Router | Hacking various services
running on the virtual router and the services configuration via
management server.
|
|Kishan Kavala | Usage | Creating a flexible usage framework so that
new usage entities could be added easily.

mysql db, primary and secondary storage and a cloudstack-agent, and boxes 2
 - 4 each just have primary storage and a cloudstack-agent). It's nothing
fancy, but it's been working perfectly now for months. All seemed to go
very smoothly except for the very last step:

 {code}
 nohup cloudstack-sysvmadm -d cs-east-dev1 -u root -p support -a sysvm.log

 {code}

It could not restart the system vms for some reason. (I do not have the
original sysvm.log as I've now been playing with this failed upgrade for
two days). However, here is the sysvm.log from the very last attempt:

 {code}
 nohup: ignoring input

As I mentioned above, I've been playing around with this for 2 days now and
actually got the 4.2 management server to finally start, but none of the
System VMs worked. I even restarted all of the CentOS hosts (which was a
huge hassle), but that didn't seem to help at all. I eventually found this
 bug: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-4826 which seemed
 similar to my issues.

I was also experiencing a strange issue where all 10 of my private
Management IP Addresses were used for some reason. Every time I restarted
the cloudstack-management service, 2 more IPs were taken up, but none ever
got released. Also since the System VMs would not start, my secondary
 storage wouldn't start up either.

About an hour ago I gave up on 4.2 and I decided to roll back to 4.1.1 on
all 4 workstations. First I shutdown all VM instances, then stopped all
cloudstack-* services on all 4 workstations, and then ran a yum downgrade
 cloudstack-* on all 4 workstations:

I would like a nightly build, especially of the api docs. The generic
docs as well would be fine.
there is a jenkins job for those api docs at

Can I get karma to see if i can direct the artifacts from that somewhere?

Or should we use http://jenkins.buildacloud.org/? most of the doc

Re: VM launch error - The uuid you supp lied was invalid.

2013-09-09 Thread Daan Hoogland
Leeno,

You can check the uuids for the objects in xencenter against what is
in the cloudstack database. There is a mismatch there.

this is what xapi tries to say with Exception
com.xensource.xenapi.Types$UuidInvalid :VDI getByUuid for uuid:
331e6a93-cccf-44ef-98f5-b7ef6c4a8e51 failed due to The uuid you supplied
was invalid.

It is complaining about a vdi but it would be my guess that a cluster
id or something else is the culprit.

good luck

Next is monitorring availibility of all processes (and system vm's).
You would want to do this outside the system itself. for instance

Re: 答复: Monitoring feature for CS

2013-08-15 Thread Daan Hoogland
The ui uses the api which calls the management server, which delegates
functions to complete the api call to agents (for instance to query
hypervisors). To add monitoring functions you'd have to extend both
the api and the hypervisor drivers.

Have a look at http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/api/index.html to see
if you can do what you want yet.

Not sure if monitor portal connects hypervisor directly.

Do I have to ensure monitor portal to connect hypervisors?

For this you can check if the hypervisor vendor has any recommendations.

 Hi,

CloudStack and play with it I would understand, however given that I have
 to
go through a complex networking setup to get the Zone/Pod/Cluster/Host even
setup to start with, I haven't been able to get far enough in to start
 playing.

Based on what I have read, I think I would like to setup a Public Cloud,
essentially some hypervisors on a private network(lets say 10.1.254.0/24)
and storage on another network(let's say 10.1.253.0/24) and then all the
 VM's given public IP's(let's say 200.10.10.0/24). I don't understand how to
do that, or even what the difference is between a Guest network and Public
network(do they have to be separate?)

I'm used to just building VM's in vSphere and the reason I would like to
move to CloudStack is for the automation and ability to give not so
technical people access to creating VM's. On vSphere this would be easy,
iSCSI and Management on the same 10G NIC with different VLAN tags, and then
guest network on another NIC. Replicating this into Cloudstack with KVM
doesn't seem possible? Can I use VLAN tagging?

Other questions I have are around the multitude of DNS servers(internal,
external, etc) that the CloudStack Management server asks me for when I set
up the Pod/Cluster/Host as well as internal and external networks - then
 how
do I assign and make sure all configuration is okay across hypervisors?

If someone could point me towards a good guide I would really appreciate
 it.

 Mark

model works, I have read the documentation and enquired on IRC(without
response) and still don't really get it. I suspect if I was able to
 setup
CloudStack and play with it I would understand, however given that I
 have to
go through a complex networking setup to get the Zone/Pod/Cluster/Host
 even
setup to start with, I haven't been able to get far enough in to start
 playing.

Based on what I have read, I think I would like to setup a Public
 Cloud,
essentially some hypervisors on a private network(lets say
 10.1.254.0/24)
and storage on another network(let's say 10.1.253.0/24) and then all
 the
 VM's given public IP's(let's say 200.10.10.0/24). I don't understand
 how to
do that, or even what the difference is between a Guest network and
 Public
network(do they have to be separate?)

I'm used to just building VM's in vSphere and the reason I would like
 to
move to CloudStack is for the automation and ability to give not so
technical people access to creating VM's. On vSphere this would be
 easy,
iSCSI and Management on the same 10G NIC with different VLAN tags, and
 then
guest network on another NIC. Replicating this into Cloudstack with
 KVM
doesn't seem possible? Can I use VLAN tagging?

Other questions I have are around the multitude of DNS
 servers(internal,
external, etc) that the CloudStack Management server asks me for when
 I set
up the Pod/Cluster/Host as well as internal and external networks -
 then how
do I assign and make sure all configuration is okay across
 hypervisors?

If someone could point me towards a good guide I would really
 appreciate
 it.

 Mark

H Lucian,

It sounds like there is an option missing from your offerings or from
your network layout. Did you setup advanced networking or basic?

If I create a new network offering I also do not see it when I create a new

 Hello Kirk,

Thanks to point out the workaround to satisfy what I want.

Does it support non-English suffix? Like i-2-3-some Chinese chars

 Thanks

You can at least change the VM suffix in 4.0.x, i.e. i-2-3-yoursuffix
instead of i-2-3-VM. It is controlled with the instance.name
 parameter in Global Settings.

 Kirk

Subject: vms hang in expunged state

Hi all.

I have faced the following problem: virtual machines remain in expunging state

I use CS 4.1, CentOS 6.4, KVM.

What is the proper way to handle this issue ?

Re: [DISCUSS/PROPOSAL] CCC13 Hackfest: Storage Architecture Summary

Thanks John,

I am still studying on it but most is adequately describing our session.

I do not understand the last half sentence you write here. Does this
enhancement need the decoupling or an unsplit notion of storage and
hypervisor snapshots? I would think both but the start of the sentence with
'if' confuses me.

Does, 'We must make sure that the Storage/Hypervisor Decoupling work does

Re: There are private IP addresses allocated for this pod

2013-06-24 Thread Daan Hoogland
Nux,

Have a look at the file create_schema.sql from the git repository. As far
as I know there are no cascading deletes supported and as you started
deleting you'll have to follow the relations yourself. a mysql workbench is
going to be your best friend right now. 'host_pod_ref' is not ref'd from
just the host and pod tables.

There is no network left (other than the one for the basic zone,
which I need obviously). There's just the pod.
Where is this private range in DB? I cold try to delete it from there
and see if I can get rid of the pod.

Tried to delete the pod from the DB directly, but I'm getting this:

 SQL query:

 DELETE FROM `cloud`.`host_pod_ref` WHERE `host_pod_ref`.`id` =2

 MySQL said: Documentation
#1451 - Cannot delete or update a parent row: a foreign key
 constraint fails (`cloud`.`cluster`, CONSTRAINT `fk_cluster__pod_id`
 FOREIGN KEY (`pod_id`) REFERENCES `host_pod_ref` (`id`))

CC-ing in dev@, maybe they can advise on how to remove a Pod from the
 DB directly.

 Anyone?
