That's because they discovered that some packages in 3.6.2.had a problem
and so it's been temporarily suspended.

I have no information as to when it'll be up again.

[libreoffice-users] NA-DVD ISO 3.5.7 installs is now online

2012-10-23 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

The newest version of the North American Community DVD is now online at
the LO CD/DVD download page[s]. Now that the conference is over, etc.,
etc., the server admin[s] have pushed the .iso file to the mirrors. It
was uploaded the day after the 3.5.7 installs came out, but with the
conference going on, the admins were not available to do the pushing.

http://www.libreoffice.org/download/?type=boxversion=3.5.7

LO-3.5.7_English-NA-DVD_all-platforms_multi-lang_plus-extras_v1_oct-18-2012.iso
is a 4.2 GB file.

In a few weeks [mid November], I will be making the 3.6.3 version of the
DVD as well.

The 3.5.7 version is a good first time user or conservative install
of LO. I know that many of you would say that people should start with
the 3.6.2 version, or 3.6.3 when it comes out, but even the release plan
calls those version for early adopters, since it is a more cutting
edge version over 3.5.7.

So for those who want to distribute the last of the 3.5 line, here is
that version of the NA-DVD .iso file for you.

Here is the link to the background image, so you can create your own
label for the DVD. Test is easy to add, once you got the nice
background image to go with it.

 My suggestion is that you verify that the MirrorBrain HASH values for the

 can be certain that what you prepared will make it intact out to the mirrors.
 Each user then must be responsible for verifying their own downloads, with
 some trust that what is being downloaded is your original. Using the HASH
 values facilitates that at all steps--but you set the foundation for it.

 You can wait for it to post up to the mirrors and grab the MirrorBrain HASH
 (as either the Info, or Details link--same content), or you can ask your
 contact to provide you the HASH value of what they received at the transfer
 server. Or if you're conservative, just do both.

 Practice a bit with the md5sum, md256sum and you'll soon make it habit for
 all your data transfers--even locally between your computers.

[libreoffice-users] Macro to create sheets

2012-10-23 Thread Samuele Zampini
Dear All,

I am trying to write a macro in order to create some sheets once it is
invoked (e.g. through a button).

Sheet 1 contains a list. So cells in the first column contains a name:

A1 = player1
A2 = player2
A3 = player3
A4 = player4
A5 = player5
A6 = player6
..
An = playern

where n may change.

So I need a funcition that counts the elements in column A (numberOfPlayer)
and that create n sheets each called player1, player2, .., playern.

I wrote something like this:

Sub DateSheets()

numberOhSheets=1

  While Sheet1.A  numberOhSheets
 numberOhSheets = numberOhSheets + 1
  Next

  For sht = 14 To 14 + numberOfSheets
 Sheets.Add after:=Sheets(Sheets.Count)
 Sheets(Sheets.Count).Name = Rosa.A  sht-13
  Next
End Sub

What should I do to make it working? And how can I create a button to run
it?

Thanks a lot,

Samuele

I started working on the 3.6.x DVD with the editing of the Extra Page.
Then I decided - what the heck - I downloaded the 3.6.2 files and
created a 3.6.2 NA-DVD.

In the next 24 hours I will be uploading it to the server I have access
to. Then that file will be pushed to the mirror system. It will take
about 1 to 3 days from the time I upload the file till you will be able
to download it, if there is no issues on either end.

SO
I made a mistake saying there would not be any 3.6.2 NA-DVD - sorry.

As far as I can see the CUPS server never saw the print job.
It doesn't matter which printer they use ( students have 12

If you have two copies of LO open you have to close them both

Hi :)
Most studies about desktop users are funded by MS.  It's pretty rare to see
one that mentions OpenSource at all.  Mysteriously, the ones that get published
tend to favour MS, so it's really quite amazing to find one that might be
independent and might even discover some truths.  So, I think anyone that can

It doesn't take long to complete the survey and it can be done in chunks quite
easily.  I think we should support it so i am forwarding it to another couple
of lists.  It's interesting that their definition of 'newcomer' (they mean
someone in LO around 2 years or less) covers just about everyone using LO.  I
wasn't in OpenOffice.org but i get the impression that there are significant
differences in infrastructure, attitudes and approach.  Also their definition

Thanks, Tom.
I have used LimeSurvey to design the survey and it is indeed under a GPL
license. For those who want to save the survey and carry on some time later,
you just have to click on the ‘Resume later’ button and you will get a popup
asking you to enter your email address (don’t worry, I am not saving the email
addresses, it is all happening within LimeSurvey and I have no control). You
will then be sent an email giving you a link which when clicked will take you
exactly where you had left the survey.

I thought it was some convenient feature for those who are pretty  busy and
cannot dedicate 20 minutes in one go.

Please everyone, do not hesitate to give me any feedback about survey.
Feedback is always good!

Hi :)
The survey software is apparently released under a GPL licence and you can
save the survey at any point and then carry on later.  It doesn't need to take
much time although i can imagine a few people agonising over non-Yes/No
questions.  It's multiple choice so just whizz through and then maybe glance
over the page and make corrections

It seems like a good thing to do but it's a free choice

Thanks for those who have already taken part in the survey.

It has been brought to my attention that several questions refer to the notion
of membership within the LibreOffice community. By membership I am not asking
about TDF membership, instead I am referring to the point when you began
contributing to the LibreOffice software project (developing, reporting bugs,
writing documentation, etc...). TDF members however fully qualify for taking
part in the survey. It will be interesting to compare both types of newcomer
experience.

However, regular users are not included. I am definitely not saying that
LibreOffice users are not important for the community (since LibO would not
exist without its users) but simply that the survey targets the experience of
new contributors when joining the LibO project. It encompasses the tasks they
had to undertake to learn how to contribute as well as the interactions with
other community members while learning about how to contribute to the software
project.

Potential survey participants shall have joined the LibO community within the
last 2 years. LibO celebrated its 2-year birthday recently, and you may argue
that everyone in LibO then joined within the last 2 years. The survey applies
to people who joined the LibO community since it was created but who were not
previously involved in the OpenOffice project.

The survey description has been updated to clarify both aspects.

For those who are at the LibO conference right now, have fun!

Try in FilePrinter settingsDevice and set printer language from PDF to

Re: [libreoffice-users] RE: Survey about newcomer experience for LibreOffice project contributors

2012-10-23 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
The questions in the survey cover a lot of that.  Even if you don't think you
contribute much then it's still worth starting to fill it in.  It is likely
that you underestimate how much you contribute so let the form be the judge of
whether you do enough to be able to make sensible answers.

Some of the questions seemed to have certain assumptions about why you might
agree, or disagree with that particular question but then a subsequent question
would often allow me to set the record straight or at least push it in the
right direction a bit.

Kinda reminded me of a meeting where an intellectual voted in favour of an
amendment, which got accepted but then he voted against the main proposal
(which also passed which upset him a little).  People were completely baffled
about his actions until they really thought about it.
Regards from
Tom :)

 Most studies about desktop users are funded  by MS.  It's pretty rare to see
 one that mentions OpenSource at all.  Mysteriously, the ones that get
 published tend to favour MS, so it's really quite amazing to find one that
 might be independent and might even discover some truths.  So, I think
 anyone that can take the survey might well be helping both us and the people
 doing the survey.

 https://limesurvey.sim.vuw.ac.nz/index.php?sid=14153%E2%8C%A9=en

 It doesn't take long to complete the survey and it can be done in chunks
 quite easily.  I think we should support it so i am forwarding it to another
 couple of lists.  It's interesting that their definition of 'newcomer' (they
 mean someone in LO around 2 years or less) covers just about everyone using
 LO.  I wasn't in OpenOffice.org but i get the impression that there are
 significant differences in infrastructure, attitudes and approach.  Also
 their definition of member is a lot more open than TDF's so if
 you are not officially a member then you can probably still fill it in.

Remember that you must be a contributor though. A user who just asks
questions on the user forum should not fill out the survey. If you
regularly help others on the user forum, I would say you're easily a
contributor, but a person who only asks a question here or there,
probably shouldn't fill out the survey

Joel

[libreoffice-users] RE: LibreOffice Math: Export PDF- Control the output?

2012-10-23 Thread russurquhart1
Hi Regina,

We were looking for a way to create equations, and then have them exist as
single files, preferably as a pdf file, with as few steps as necessary.

In our work environment we then take the pdf files, and can use them in various
formats, for inclusion into our documents.

Thanks for your help,

Russ

Do not use Math for this task but insert the formula into Draw or Writer

BTW, what are you doing with a single formula in a PDF document?

Are they having problems printing from other programs?

Are all the work stations reporting the problem?

My thoughts are it is:

1. An bug in LO; possibly specific to openSUSE

2. A local bug in openSUSE

3. the print server has a bug

I have not had any random print problems with LO using Linux Mint 13

Sometimes renaming the .config/libreoffice/user/3 folder clears up a

This opens a dialog in which you can enter SQL statements and execute

 This would also require getting the HSQLDB guide for version 1.8.
The version on the hsqldb website is for 2.8.

   I have tried several other apps ( Firefox, Softmaker, Gimp )
   and they can still all print. Calc and Impress can't.

   Hi. If your at the stage of adding/removing LO. What if you try the
   opensuse install.
   I just recently updated my 12.1s to 12.2 for a more recent LO from suse.
   The upgrade option from the DVD worked well (with some bewares).
