[libreoffice-users] constant crashes

2013-07-02 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz
Good afternoon
I do have an ordinary ODF Writer file, about 14 MB in sizebecause of
about 60 monochrome pictures (writing a book).
This file is usually open in print preview mode.
When I try to switch to web layout, so that I can see more text
without all those funky margins and spaces betweeen pages,
LibreOffice (3.6.5.2) ALWAYS crashes due to an unexpected error as it
calls it.

Is there anything I can do about this VERY annoying behavior?

Thank you.

2.  to keep a copy of all the images in a sub-folder in the same folder as the

So a BIG THANKS from me!! :)))

I wonder if it might be good to make a wiki-page list of people we think are

we have all made LibreOffice what it is today and that result is superb.
Other mailing lists, such as the devs and docs team have lists of their

One reason i noticed this over-sight was the QA people wrote to me to ask
how to get more people interested in their competition and i really didn't
have a good answer.  I don't think i have the type of influence they were

more posts to this list and that seems to have generated fantastic results.

So, good work to all!!  I hope you are having fun over there and maybe

This question makes me wonder, just why there are so many LO versions and
frequent new releases. I can't keep up, and I find myself torn about
upgrading. I want the latest and greatest, but I've had problems with newer
 versions resurrecting old bugs.

I'm sure there's an overriding philosophy that has been adopted, but I
wonder if we might be better served with fewer new releases.

Apache seems to have taken quite the opposite approach with no new releases
of AOO since its 3.4.1. Perhaps something somewhere between the two
 extremes
 might be nice.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Spelling controle

2013-07-02 Thread Dries Feys
Tom,

We're getting off topic, but about the languages :

Belgium has 3 languages : a small part speaking German, a big part
speaks French and the rest speaks Dutch. Many Flemish people speak
Dutch (Flemish, but it's similar), French and English. Some speak
other languages as well, like German and many others, dependent of
your personal interests.

Jan is coming from the Netherlands, where there is only 1 official
language. They tend to learn rather English and German, and sometimes
a bit French, but just like everywhere : it all depends to your
personal interest.

[libreoffice-users] Developer-specific brochure

The marketing team are currently producing various brochures/gatefold-flyers
to attract various different types of people. Right now they are working on
one to attract developers but they have already done ones for various
specific event and for different types of people.

Unlike every other similar thing created by any other successful company
they try to cram in as much text as possible and carefully minimise any
design elements or attractive images. However, they are beginning to run
out of room so hopefully the QR Code might help them.

Annoyingly i can't post to their Nabble so i have to use this one and then
copypaste the link into a normal email to them!

Tom :)

When I try to switch to web layout, so that I can see more text
without all those funky margins and spaces between pages,
LibreOffice (3.6.5.2) ALWAYS crashes due to an unexpected
error as it
 calls it.

Is there anything I can do about this VERY annoying behavior?

 Thank you.

Opera have also just announced recently that they will be releasing a

announcement early builds for Windows and Macs were available and Linux
was coming soon.

I haven't checked in a couple weeks, but there might be some progress on

Not infuriate, but it is a mild annoyance. As an example; if you were

sure you do save regularly and fairly frequently, perhaps incrementing
versions occasionally to ensure you can easily go back to a previous
state.
2.  to keep a copy of all the images in a sub-folder in the same
folder as the document, or elsewhere that is easy to get to so that if
images do vanish from the document then it's easy to replace them
3.  Work on your document locally and then upload back to the network
or Cloud or usb-stick or where-ever you keep it.

Hi :)
We are going off-topic.  Normally i quite enjoy that but in this case the o.p's
problem is not yet solved.

Also i don't want to be an apologist for an awkward set-up that i don't like
either.  I've been told that a lot of people did pester the-powers-that-be to
make the lists as they are and that the poll we took didn't get close to the
same numbers of people requesting the more sensible method we used to have or
some other more sensible method.

The timing was really ironic for me.

When this odd mailist behavior was instituted a while back, many people
complained and it was decided by the instituter that there was to be a
poll about it and if most people in the poll complained, they would
return to the standard behavior. What ever happened to that?
All I see are complaints about this behavior. I don't remember anyone
saying they loved it.
Like the other poster, I find it mildly annoying - especially after
sending, I realize I used the wrong method and have to do it all over

[libreoffice-users] Default font and size

2013-07-02 Thread John R. Sowden
I am having a problem setting the default font in calc. This is usually
not an issue, as I often start a new sheet from an existing sheet. But
if I start from the first menu, I get a font called 'arial' (sounds like
a mermaid or m$). Since I am using an oss program, i would prefer to
use an oss font, e.g. freesans. per help, I an supposed to open a Write
sheet and set the font in the 'tools' section. This works for write,
not for calc.

Assistance?

Hi.
Select the whole sheet, set the font (freesans).
Click FileTemplatesSave
Select Categories = My Templates.
Give a name to the New template (defaultcalc) and click ok
Click FileTemplatesOrganise.
Double click My Templates, select defaultcalc
Select Commands button drop down menu and select Set as default template.

New calc sheets now open with your font (and other) settings.

Thank you for your step by step instructions. A Couple of problems:
There is no file-templates menu selection. There is is 'file-save
as template' and 'file-templatemenu'. There is also no
'file-templates-organize, or any organize under either of the 2 menu
selections that I found. I was able to execute the beginning steps,
but I was unable to save as default template. It seems that you are
using a different os or versions than I am. imltho (less than), this
is a bug, as a common user interface is crucial to user, newbies (of
which I am not one) and developers.

I'll play arround some more. I think you've got me on the right
track. When I went to save the file under 'save a template', there
was already a 'default' file there.

John

Hi. I think as Regina points out, your version and mine differ, but you
seem to be on the right track.

I don't mind getting 2 copies of so many emails.  After clearing 20 emails i

Hit reply all.

This is the only list I belong to that requires that selection. Then, the
person you're replying to gets two emails, unless after hitting reply all
you go into the To box and manually delete the extra emails.

The font is set in the document template.

Take an new document.
Open Styles and Formatting window. Right click style Default, then
Modify

Goto tab Font and choose your favorite font. OK.
Save the document as template.
Set this template as your default template.

How to do this depends on your LibreOffice version, because a new
Template Manager has been developed.

I had failed to right click on default. But I do not see any dialogue
or check box to make this the default template. I looked in 'save',
'save as' and 'save as template'.

Hi. It could be under Commands if you see that anywhere. It would
certainly be much easier if there was a simple Save as Default Template.

Let's try, hopefully we have the same version.
I assume, that you have already used Save as template.

Use File New Templates or 'Templates' from the start screen. You
shout get a dialog with title Template Manager.

Select the tab Spreadsheets. There you should see your new template.

Make a single click on your template to select it. Now you get a toolbar
at the top. And there you find Set as default.

Kind regards

The answers that you have been given - to create a new default
template in the required font - are good, of course. But you may
like to check what happens if you start a new document using this
template and then create new sheets within the document. I fear you
may find that the font defaults back to Arial.

I trust this helps.

I've warned multiple times about this. So, if you're participating and
you don't see your name, let us know :-D If you're participating and you
think the count is much too low - don't stress, the numbers are very
rough and we recognize that some checking will be needed when the
contest is done on Friday.

So without further delay:

participate in good faith :-D !

If you will follow Steve's description yes, because there the first
sheet has got a direct formatting. But that does not change the general
setting and the new sheet will have the general setting with Arial.

If you will follow my guide, the new sheet will have the new font,
because it is changed in style.

I usually also set my favorite number formats in the style. And I set
the language to 'none' and make a new style text_de and text_en with
language German and English respectively.

And as I like printed grids I change the page style too.

Unfortunately it is not possible to set column and row width/height in a
style.

I trust this helps.
