[libreoffice-users] Position and Size - Rotation tab doesnt work in vers 4.1.1.2 (impress)

2013-09-04 Thread Gerald Pechoc
If I want to rotate either a LINE object or a RECTANGLE object it does
not work, accept some 2 or 3 degrees deviation.

I have done as described under
https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Rotation
but there is no correct result.

In former versions that worked, but version 4.1.1.2 is not usable for me
because of this failure.

Does anyone have a work around for this behaviour?
I am using Libre Office on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Best regards
Gerald

[libreoffice-users] Suggestion: Change the zoom with Ctrl+ Plus(+) and Minus(-) Key shortcuts

2013-09-04 Thread logos
Hello. I think it would be a good idea to add a shortcut when you are Editing

In normal view there is a zoom in and zoom out shortcut with Plus(+) and
Minus(-) Keys, but not at the editing mode.

In fact, I think it would be better to use the Ctrl+ Plus(+) and Ctrl+

[libreoffice-users] Re: How to show postgresql exception errors in 4.1 Base when using a form?

Le 03/09/13 22:29, Roger Nutbeam a écrit :

Hi,

I have a form for entering some data. The data is checked using a trigger
function in postgresql. If an exception is raised by the function, nothing
is shown in the form. It just doesn't complete entering the data, i.e. move
to the next row in the data grid. If no exception is raised the data is
entered into the table via the form, and the cursor moves to the next row.

Entering the data manually using SQL outside of Base, returns the exception
when it's meant to. The postgresql function is working.

AFAIK, this is not currently supported by the postgres native driver,
and I'm not even sure it is by the more general JDBC driver ? How would
you tell the driver that the statement execution called by the trigger
has failed, when all of this is stored and executed on the server, about
which the driver knows nothing ?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Suggestion: Change the zoom with Ctrl+ Plus(+) and Minus(-) Key shortcuts

2013-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Good post!  Thanks :)

This is a good first place to ask about almost anything.  If we don't know or
if we think other places might want to have their say then we can always
signpost you but people on this list might also carry on discussing the
issues here too.  I think a lot of us, especially new people here, don't quite
realise all the different teams that work on different things in LibreOffice.
So signposting helps us let people know of other ways they might be able to
get involved with LibreOffice.

I noticed that Ctrl and mouse-wheel does zoom in and out.  So presumably it
might not be too tough to add the Ctrl and + or - to do the same thing.  I
suspect that if you use GnuLinux you might be able to reconfigure your own
keyboard or create keyboard-short-cuts as a temporary work-around but it would
be much nicer to have the feature properly implemented in LibreOffice.

It is possible to post feature requests but the way we do that is by using
the same system as we use for bug-reporting and that feels a bit strange
sometimes.  It is the most efficient way even though it seems odd.  So the
guide on posting bug-reports is somewhat useful but asks for things that you
obviously don't need to give for a feature request.  Then one of the drop-downs
has feature request as one of it's options.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Same document and different count of sides under windows and linux libreoffice versions

2013-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Usually that is because the Windows side has Page settings set to US Letter
whereas the GnuLinux size assumes the more international A4 as used by almost
the entire rest of the world (incl Canada).

You might find other programs in Windows also assume US Letter and to affect
all of them you might find changing your Locale and Regionalisation settings
might help.  Sometimes it is the printer that is set to US Letter and that
might affect other machines that use the same printer.  If you want to minimise
the amount of change then in LibreOffice just go to

Format - Page - Page (2nd tab) - top drop-down lets you change paper-size

However i suspect that might only affect just the 1 single document.

Other reasons for the change is a change in the fonts used by Windows.  Tim of
Kracked Press once gave me a very much nicer version of Arial and on the few
machines where i installed that people started using Arial more only to be
slightly disappointed when viewing their documents on other machines that just
had the default Arial.  GnuLinux has a ton of fonts that are not installed by
default on Windows (and similarly vice-versa) so changing OS means the document
has to substitute for something similar but not quite the same.  It's a pain.
A lot of the fonts included by default in Windows have copyright notices but
still allow you to install on GnuLinux.  It's piracy (unless you have
fulfilled the termsconditions) but a lot of people do it and it's rare to get
prosecuted for it.  The GnuLinux fonts use copyleft (such as Creative
Commons CC-by-SA) and even encourages you to install anywhere you like.

Hi :)
The chances are that they will be really happy to hear that people do like and
enjoy using their Extension.  If they are able to make time to fix it for the
newer versions of LibreOffice then they are likely to do so.  It might mean
they need 1 version for AOO and another for LO so it's getting to the stage
where it would be good for them to license their Extension under a GPL, MPL,
LGPL or other suitable copyleft agreement so that other people could modify

Report it to the author of the extension, or the distributor if it is

FWIW, there are quite a few of the older extensions which no longer work
at the moment in 4.1 because of changes in the way extensions need to be
registered, and also because of certain changes in the API. If the
extension author has not updated his/her extension to take that into

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Presentation slide does not show graphics visible in 'Normal'

2013-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
You might be suffering from an extremely rare and intermittent bug so it would
be great if you could post a bug-report about it and let them know what you
have tried already that didn't work
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
You might find a few duplicates and 1 might match your case more closely than
any of the others.  if so please try to add to that instead of creating a fresh
new thread.

Most of the time if this bug does ever surface then it seems to happen if you
have Auto-backup or Auto-save type features on.  if you switch them off the
bug vanishes
Tools - Options - Load/Save - General
and untick options such as Always create back-up copy.

I think it's been about a year since we last saw anyone suffering with this bug
so it's not an easy one to pin down and fix!  Most people using the back-up and
auto-saving options are completely fine however much they try to set-up things
to reproduce the problem.  You might even find that if you switch the options
off and then next week switch them back on again that you also find it tough to
lose images.

Tom :)

Have you tried...

*Presentation Minimizer*: the Presentation Minimizer extension reduces
the file size of the current presentation. Images get compressed and
unnecessary data is removed. Image quality size can be minimized. Screen
and projector presentations don't require the same quality as
presentations intended for printing, and can be optimized. Object
Linking and Embedding (OLE) objects are useful during the design phase,
but can be twice the size of a regular image. Presentation Minimizer can
replace OLE objects with images, with no quality loss. In addition to
reducing file size, Presentation Minimizer can remove speaker notes and
hidden slides so that you don't accidentally publish confidential
information. The wizard summarizes all changes to be made to the
presentation, and estimates the file size saving. Presentation Minimizer
also works on Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.

...on low memory machine?

I tried starting Libreoffice after a fresh reboot with nothing else active.
So I guess that the problem is not memory but display size.
I tried another display, by the way, with the same result. What is still
bad, is that it drops the images silently in both cases (Slide Show and

What I'd expect Libreoffice to do, is to inform me should anything go wrong.

I'm guessing here, but have you inserted the images as links?  There is a
tick box at the bottom of the Insert picture dialogue.  If you choose
links, there should be no difference if you view the presentation or export
it as PDF on the same system, where the images are still available at the
same paths.  But if access to the image files is no longer available (maybe
they were on a removable device which you have removed) they cannot be
displayed.  And if you move the presentation to another system before
displaying or exporting it, the image files will again no longer be
 available at the same paths.

Another possibility, I think, is simply insufficient memory on your system
to display the images.  What happens if you close other applications?  Does
that help?  Will the presentation display correctly on another system with
more memory?  You can tinker with memory settings at Tools | Options... |
LibreOffice | Memory.  Does that help?

If memory is the problem, could you improve things by reducing the
resolution of the images?  You may have high-resolution images suitable for
printing in large format.  But that could be far higher resolution than can
be displayed in a presentation.  You could pre-process (copies of) your
images to reduce the resolution - and therefore file size - to something
suitable for display on a screen.  Does that help?

You could test fairly easily whether the problem is fundamental or related
to the number and size of your images.  Just make a copy of your
presentation and delete all but a very few slides and images.

Hi :)
When LO starts and offers the recovery option then just cancel that recovery.
That should get you to the right version of the document.

As to why LO is crashing in Mageia using KDE 4 i really have no idea.  Does
your package-manager have a fix broken packages option?  If you installed
LibreOffice from their repos then perhaps try the other version directly from

I am still going with the 4.0.x branch but maybe just go to the updated

Hi :)
When LO starts and offers the recovery option then just cancel that recovery.
That should get you to the right version of the document.

As to why LO is crashing in Mageia using KDE 4 i really have no idea.  Does
your package-manager have a fix broken packages option?  If you installed
LibreOffice from their repos then perhaps try the other version directly from
the upstream page
http://www.libreoffice.org/download
I am still going with the 4.0.x branch but maybe just go to the updated
version 4.0.5.

Just discovered that if I accidentally hit Minimise instead of Exit,
the current LO session seems to get lost, and the only way I can get
back into the document is to Logout/Login and go through Recovery
(thereby losing whatever changes I had made in the last session).

After Minimising, how is one supposed to get back into the Minimised
session?

(No such problem with other apps.)

Maurice,

I have noticed with openSUSE with XFCE that using the scroll wheel on an apps
title bar will cause it to disappear.
The title bar is left on the screen. The first time I saw it was rather
surprising.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LO 4.0.4.2 disappears if Minimised!

2013-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
It 'should' be really easy to de-minimise.  Writer 'should' have a small
tab-type thing in your taskbar/launcher/panel/whatever to show that it's still
open and clicking on that 'should' bring the document back.

If it's just kinda disappearing then maybe it's weirdly gone to a different
workspace without taking you there at the same time.  Try
Ctrl Alt and the keyboard arrow keys
Most distros give you 4 in whichever DE you happen to have chosen.  SliTaz and
some others might give just 2 so i press the Ctrl Alt left arrow about 4 times
to see what is open on other workspaces.

There is probably some fancy work-space switcher and if you just click and hold
down on that it might show you all 4 workspaces at the same time.

However, it just sounds like LO is just misbehaving, perhaps needs a dependency
fixed or updated or perhaps a weird tweak or something or maybe an Extension
misbehaving.  On my version of LO on this machine it is behaving as you would
expect so yours is not behaving normally.
Regards from
Tom :)

Set the styles you wont and apply them to your title page. Make sure
that title page has different page styles then rest of the document.

Word's title pages are also a preset templates of different styles. once
you're finish with formating, save it as template so you can easily
reuse it. Word has them preset, in LO you have to do it yourself - but
only once.

Options in Format - First page might help.

See this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=448vyDDM99o

Hopefully someone will give you better advice.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Weblog extension not working in 4.1?

2013-09-04 Thread Alexander Thurgood
Le 04/09/13 13:28, Tom Davies a écrit :

Tom,

The chances are that they will be really happy to hear that people do like
and enjoy using their Extension. If they are able to make time to fix it for
the newer versions of LibreOffice then they are likely to do so. It might
mean they need 1 version for AOO and another for LO so it's getting to the
stage where it would be good for them to license their Extension under a GPL,
MPL, LGPL or other suitable copyleft agreement so that other people could
modify their code and join in with maintaining it. Any idea what license it
 currently uses?
 Regards from

The only place I could see the weblog extension available for download
was here :

http://extensions.openoffice.org/fr/project/sun-weblog-publisher

Now, as the original poster mentioned, this is the Sun weblog extension,
i.e. originally built and provided by Sun when it was running the OOo
development. So, unless the ownership has somehow been transferred to
someone else, how is it likely that Sun are going to be interested in
fixing something which they no longer support ?

One look at the comments on the page above indicates that the extension
has a long history of incomplete or faulty functionality. There is no
reason to assume that any one will be fixing anything anytime soon,
unless, as I indicated, the people over at AOO have decided to take over
responsibility for the extension (which doesn't seem to be the case from
what I have read in past exchanges on the AOO list). It is therefore
unlikely that this extension is going to get fixed over there.

Now, if the original poster got the extension via their Linux
distributor, then it is up to the distro to fix it (or not, as the case
may be, depending on their interest in it).

You probably want to use a frame instead of a table. On the Type tab
of the Frame dialogue, remove the tick from AutoSize: then the frame
will - as you wish - not expand to accommodate its contents. If
necessary, you can create your one-cell table inside the frame, but

2013-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
That looks good to me :)  I'm not really familiar with posting bug-reports or
feature requests but that look good imo.  It might be years before anyone looks
at it or it might catch a devs attention tomorrow (QA will probably deal with
it first).  There is never any way of knowing but with something like this it
might be possible to add it to the Easy Hacks that new devs use to get a
feeling for how to code for LibreOffice.

So, i would use the mouses scroll wheel and avoid thinking about this feature
request.

I did once avidly follow a couple of bug-reports i had posted in Ubuntu but
only 1 of them got worked on and that was about 6 months after i had posted it.
I was quite surprised anyone bother tbh as it was a minor point but i
celebrated when my idea did get in.  One of the others was not a bug but just
something that everyone had to work-around if they had a certain graphics card
and it was really easy to do so.

So, don't wait anxiously for it and please don't judge us badly if it never
gets attention.  I hope it does but there is no way to make it happen.

Alexander, I'll do it with the Ctrl and mouse scroll wheel for now. At the
internet browsers (e.g firefox, chrome,...) or in programs like evince
watching pdf for example, you can zoom in or out with both, Ctrl and mouse
scroll wheel or Ctrl and a +- key.

That is why I think it would be a good implementation. Personally I am used
to the Ctrl plus +- key rather than Ctrl and mouse scroll.

You can often obtain the same effect using a
touchpad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scroll_wheel says:
... touchpads are often made with the edges acting to scroll the
page (rather than to move the pointer), partly making up for the
lack of a scroll wheel. On laptops with multitouch capability,
scrolling is usually achieved by touching and dragging two fingers
on the touchpad at the same time. Many Linux distributions offer a
third method of scrolling using the touchpad, where the user will
first activate scroll-mode by pressing in a corner of the pad, and
than dragging in a circle around the center of the pad, letting go
of the touchpad will switch back to the default mouse-mode.

Hello Tom,

I noticed that Ctrl and mouse-wheel does zoom in and out.  So
presumably it might not be too tough to add the Ctrl and + or - to do
the same thing.

Ctrl+ Ctrl- already have meaning in Spreadsheet, Ctrl- is also already
assigned in Writer. I've not checked other parts of LO, as I rarely use
them.

[libreoffice-users] Start Up Question

2013-09-04 Thread Jay Ridgley

Folks,

I seem to have gotten one of my settings messed up, and do not know how I did
it.

I want each instance of a spread sheet, document, presentation to be separate
not connected. If I quit a spread sheet I want just that one to go away, NOT all
of them.

I have more then one set of files I am working with in separate directories. I
do not want them connected, in any way.

It used to work that way under open office, however, libre office they are
connected; somehow..

Current version in use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LO from a PPA at version 4.0.4.2.

How do I fix the problem?

Cheers,
Jay

Re: [libreoffice-users] Start Up Question

2013-09-04 Thread Don Myers

Hi Jay,

I run Libre Office in Ubuntu also. I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 with Unity.
I use the LO from the Document Foundation and not the PPA. The three
applications I use most are Writer, Calc, and Base. I always place each
of them in the Launcher. Many times I will have all three open at the
same time. If I close Writer, Calc and Base stay open. I've never had
any issue with closing a document in one closing any of the others which
are open. A few days ago I went from LO 4.0.5.2 to LO 4.1.1.2. The
4.1.1.2 has some bugs in with respect to using it with Unity. It works,
but not really as it should.

I always close a doc with F4. After pressing this I am returned to
another doc or the start center if no other docs are open.

Using Fedora 19 and 4.1.1.2
