Has anyone achieved these improved graphic results with MS Paint?

If so, could you pls share the steps?

I'm guessing it can  be done in GIMP but GIMP and I are not in

Thank you kindly.

GIMP or ImageMagick are what I would use for this.  With ImageMagick,
you can use the "convert" command to scale the image.  Just keep in
mind, when you upscale an image, its quality will suffer since image
data is being "created".   If you're not worried about that, either of
those tools would work.  It's been a VERY long time since I've done
this BUT there was a free Windows utility you could install that would
add image scaling to the context menu of an image file.  So, you could
right-click the file and choose the "scale" (whatever it's called)
menu option to scale it up or down.

I just don't know if that utility exists still or if it's compatible
with Windows 10 or 11.

You profile is stored in:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4

you can rename this directory, and restart LO, then this directory will
be re-created (with the default).

Now you only have to find out where the autocorrect settins are in this
profile (if there are any...)

On my system the autocorrect things seem to be stored in:

"C:\Users\Luuk\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\autocorr\acor_nl-NL.dat"

At least, that was my conclusion when opening that file with 7-zip, and
seeing the contents of 'DocumentList.xml' which did contains a manually
added entry in the auto correct list.

Hi Luuk,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I fully understand the structure of
the user profile and I see acor_en_GB.dat and acor_en_US.dat in the
autocorr subdirectory.

Fixes I have tried:

* Delete one or both those dat files, with a full system restart each time.

* Delete both the dat files and replace them with copies from a new
install on an identical machine.

All failed to restore the default "AutoCorrect > Replace" options.

There has to be some other configuration setting in the profile that
influences this option.

Getting late here, so tomorrow I will spend a "less than enjoyable" day
reconstructing my profile and writing a program to trigger a backup of
my good profile _*BEFORE*_ LO ever starts and gets the opportunity to
attack and corrupt my profile again.

Regards
Dave

Hi,

Maybe too late, but the path under Tools/Options/"LibrOffice/Paths"

has an "AutoCorrect" setting, which should be set to the UsersPath:

"C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\autocorr"

The internalpath is set to:

"C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\..\share\autocorr"  (or: "C:\Program
Files\LibreOffice\share\autocorr")

In this latest directory i do see all default autocorrect files for different
languages.

But unfortunately there seems to be another setting missing?

Using openfiles.exe (from Microsoft) you can see which files are open.

(link:

first you have to enable it using: openfiles /Local ON    (and do a reboot)

After that you can query with files are open using : openfiles /Query .

More details on how to use this are given on the link given above.

The checkbox for "always save new version" is an inclomplete quote, it says:

This means that a new version is only created when you close the document,

Then the formula: =TIMEVALUE(REPLACE(A2;3;1;":"))*24*60

Will return: 74

Basically first replace 'h' for an ':'

timevalue returns the minutes since midnight.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Calling a libreoffice basic function from a python script

This page shows the answer to your question:

I am working on linux Mint.

I started with a basic Sub I found. In it's original form it had 3 rgb
values hard coded and it popped up a message box that displayed the
color value from the rgb input. I rewrote it as a Function that took
the rgb values as parameters.

Here is the basic:

Function ColorExampleFunc(r as long, g as long, b as long)
Dim lVar As Long
lVar = rgb(207,231,245)
msgbox "The color " & lVar & " consists of:" & Chr(13) &_
"red= " & red(lVar) & Chr(13)&_
"green= " & green(lVar) & Chr(13)&_
"blue= " & blue(lVar) & Chr(13) , 64,"colors"

end function

Here is the python:

#test_basic.py
import os

result = os.system('soffice
"macro:///Standard.Module1.ColorExampleFunc(207,231,245)"')

This works as it will pop up the message box with the color value
displayed. What I need to do is capture that color value (which is
usually an eight digit number) in variable in the python script.

I printed result and it was equal to 0.

It's been a long time since I did anything in basic. I imagine I would
have to get rid of the msgbox code and set the rgb values equal to a
variable and then return them, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Does anyone know how to get the color value in the python script?

Thanks, Jim

Shouldn't there be some easy way to replace every occurrence of those
cell ranges in all my formulas?

I don't think any automatic system could do exactly what you probably
want.

Say your range is A1:B5 on Sheet1 and suppose you name this as Name.
You may think that "Name" is now synonymous with "A1:B5", but no:
instead it is shorthand for "$Sheet1.$A$1:$B$5". There are thirty-two
variations on "Sheet1.A1:B5" you may have in your spreadsheet, each
including a different combination of those dollar signs. As you will
know, each version behaves differently if you fill ranges from a cell
with a formula containing it, or if you copy and paste from such a
cell. So the differences are important. By including "Name" in a
formula, you are choosing to imply the anchored or absolute version of
the range.

In order to preserve the precise meaning and behaviour of your
existing formulae, any automatic system should replace a spelled-out
reference only when it includes all five dollar signs. But in practice
one may rarely add all those dollar signs in formulae, instead using
only as many are necessary for the filling or copying that one is
expecting to need. I suspect you wouldn't be impressed if an automatic
system failed to replace "A1:B5" or "A$1:B$5" with your newly defined
"Name". But if it did, it would corrupt some spreadsheets that you or
others might compose.

And when I say easy, I mean easier than doing search and replace on
each one of them one by one. I can't find such a feature. Is there an
extension for it?

When you do this, you would need to determine in each case whether the
replacement by the range name would be appropriate. And an automatic
system could not do that for you.

I'm going to write a macro for it, ...

Which of the thirty-two variations will it replace?

If every combination has a unique (range-)name,  who cares?

A1:B5 ==> range1

A1:B$5 ==> range2

A1$:B5 => someOtherRange

I trust this helps.

Hmm, interesting question. The BZ tdf#73691 sheds no light, and I can't
remember any discussion of adding it to a menu. But it was prominently
advertised in the release notes for 5.1
<https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.1#Unicode_character_input_with_Alt.2BX>

The actual .uno:UnicodeNotationToggle command is available to assign in
Customization receiving default en-US name in Customization of "Toggle
Unicode Notation" and can be added to Menu, Toolbars, and Context menu. It
shows for LibreOffice globally as +x -- Command Name and the keyboard
shortcut are localized and configured by os.

I could possibly see it assigned to the Standard toolbar, adjacent to the
Special character dialog button.
But, I'm not sure how it could be ussed from menu, and which menu -- Insert,
Format or even Tools -- would hold it. Checked, and it does _not_ appear on
any MS Office menus.

So kind of seems the enhancement of the BZ issue was fully implemented--with
no functional reason to add it to a menu just to expose the shortcut.

Stuart

More simply, if you know the Unicode point desired, U+200A --it can be
directly entered into LibreOffice and then toggled directly. The shortcut in
Windows, Linux is: +x.

If macOS we had to use a different shortcut: CMD+Option+x

(implemented in tdf#73691 as modified, macOS assigned internally in
LibreOffice source to use X_MOD1_MOD2).

That should allow you to directly enter a known Unicode glyph, just be
mindful that if working with a font that does not define a glyph you'll be
dependent on font fallback and/or will receive an "undefined glyph"
placeholder on document canvas.

Look in the Unicode block of 'General Punctuation. There are a slew of

Thanks. Looks like I want to use “thin space” Hex 200A. Is there an easy
way to do that from the keyboard? None of the ways I’ve used on Linux or
Windows seem to work.

And Windows users can use this (if you only can remember hexcodes)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_input#In_Microsoft_Windows

This makes it possible to enter the hexcode via your keyboard, so you
will get an "A" when entering ALT  "+" "41" (without the double quotes)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Calc: moving/sorting rows on Sheet1 don't update formulas on Sheet2 that refer to them

2019-04-10 Thread Luuk

On 10-4-2019 05:32, Tim Deaton wrote:

Steve & Brian, thanks for your replies.

Despite decades of working on spreadsheets, I can't say I expected
it.  But then, it's the first time I'd found myself in this particular
scenario.  But after your first sentence, I think I can see the logic
- even though I wish the spreadsheet was smarter.

I actually am doing a lookup from Sheet2.  But the food names on
Sheet1 is the index column, and I'm using the lookup function to pull
the calories, carbs, etc into Sheet2.  That's why I was sorting Sheet1
on the food names - both to make it easier for VLOOKUP to find a
match, and to make it easier for me to create the link between the two
sheets.

Unless someone has any other suggestions, I guess I'll have to
remember to insert new rows wherever my noew foods need to be, and/or
to use ALT+SHIFT to drag new rows to where I should have inserted them
before I created them.  I'll probably also need to regularly use
|Paste Special| to convert those formulas pulling the food names into
Sheet2 into hard text, since this is more fragile than I expected it
to be.

Perhaps there's a way to setup a pull-down pick-list to pull the food
names into Sheet2?  Perhaps I can investigate that later.

-- Tim

You should not be doing a lookup from sheet2, but you should do it from
sheet 1

Simple Example:

Sheet1:

Three columns

A Date; i.e. 10-04-2019   ('DD-MM-', or whatever dateformat you are
using)

B Food; ie. 'pasta', 'pizza'

C Carbohydrates; formula:
=IF(ISERR(VLOOKUP(B2;Food.$A$1:$B$50;2;0));"?";
VLOOKUP(B2;Food.$A$1:$B$50;2;0))

Sheet2:

Two columns

A Food; i.e. 'pasta','pizza','macaroni', etc

B Carbohydrates;  the carbohydrates in the food...

After this sorting sheet1, or sheet2 is no problem.

The only 'problem' i have with spreadsheets is that i am always
referring to fixed ranges (like the $A$1:$B$50), which fail after adding
more than 50 lines ;)

Does the equivalent feature exist in Excel?  What I've found is, when

In EXCEL you can do this:

A B C
1 2 3
=A2+3 =B2+3 =C2+3

(I used CTRL+T to show formulas, you should see the values 4,5,6)

When you select A1:C3, and choose 'Insert'/'Table'

After this, typing the value 7 in cell 'A4', en pressing 'Enter' results
in the fields B4 and C4 being updated with the same formula as in row 3.

How can this be achieved in LibreOffice Calc ?

Excel has also a function named SUBTOTAL()

[libreoffice-users] message about "This document contains macros."

2019-03-03 Thread Luuk

Today i added a worksheet to a libreoffice-calc document.

After saving/re-opening this document i get the message as in the
subject of this mail.

Why?

i do not see any macro's, when looking under:

Tools/Macros/Edit/

And also , there are no macros in this document, and have never been
there, in this document

This is in LibreOffice 6.2.0.3 (x86) (Windows 10)

Should i file a bug?

I created a bug report after reading above.

it seems that 'automatic font selection in macro' works as i would

choosen before entering the 'insert/special character' screen is set back.

But there seems to be (a small) bug in selecting the correct character

Install nodejs (see https://nodejs.org/en/)

Download, and install 'google-timeline-to-csv' in a directory.

Now when you do this:

'node index.js'

You might get an error about missing library's.

To install those missing library's type:

'npm install fs path xmldoc json2csv moment'

(npm should be installed together with nodejs)

First - redirecting the reply email to the User mailing list (the website
ML you originally posted to is for issues regarding the LibreOffice website
not the application).

Second - LibreOffice has always had the ability to run in what is referred
to as 'headless' mode. This means there is no GUI active while all the
document processing functions are available. The application even has
command line options specifically designed to take ODF files and generate
other fie types (html for instance) from them, in this non-GUI mode. This
feature is used as a backend for web applications today in production
environments. You can also call macros (sriptis) from the command line and
again if the macro is written properly can run just fine in this headless
mode.

Finally - I don't personally have a bunch of links for you with information
on setting that up but expect others on the users list will.

Best wishes,

What is the purpose of the chart? You do not need 105000 objects to

The fact that a screen has only (a limited) number of pixels, has

Sheet styles do not allow to adjust font etc.

I choose character style to set the desired font for all sheets.
Problem:
I DID set a certain "date format"
and
a certain "number format".

However, this gives me either an incomprehensible 5-digit number for
the dates (of birth),
or alternatively a similarily incomprehensible 5-digit number for the
age = 2 digits.

I found under:
Tools - Options - General -> a "Two digit options":

   Year (two digits)

Defines a date range, within which the system recognizes a two-digit
year.

In LibreOffice, years are indicated by four digits, so that the
difference between 1/1/99 and 1/1/01 is two years. This *Year (two
digits)* setting allows the user to define the years in which
two-digit dates are added to 2000. To illustrate, if you specify a
date of 1/1/30 or later, the entry "1/1/20" is recognized as 1/1/2020
instead of 1/1/1920.

That may be wonderful in certain situations, but leaves me having to
choose between the "age" (MOST of my patients have a 2-digit age!!!)
or "date of birth" of my patients.
And, naturally, having to format those columns by hand, for all sheets
(and maybe all eternity)

AND ... my patients turn out to have a VERY strange "date of birth":
70 ("age" translates into ) 1900/3/10
25                                   1900/1/24
33                               1900/2/1    (I am sure, there is
some logical rule, but I cannot see it)
The above cited help section does NOT indicate any way of how to
*DISABLE *that function.

Is there a way to do so?
I tried to just delete the number in the year field. THAT did not work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Thomas

A date is kept, internally, as a number.

So if a cell contains 33, nd is displayed as a date, you will get
'1900/2/1', which is 33 days after counting the days started.

BTW: Why are you storing age ? Next year all your patients are one year
older. Is it not much better to just store birthdates?

Any suggestions?

I do not think its possible to create a user-defined event in a Macro in
LibreOffice.

The docs say nothing about how it can be done.

Not quite. The backspace key deletes the character to the left of the
cursor's position while the Del key deletes the character to the right of
the cursor's position. I want to make ctrl-d function like the Del key.

Yes sorry, that is correct. They are different deletions. The "Delete"
performs what is also called a "forward delete".
Have looked at the project source code. The forward delete action is among
a class of actions directly implemented in the edit shell and assigned to
the keyboard (symkey) for the Delete key.

It is not available to assign to additional Keyboard shortcut or menu
entry.

Doing so would require creation of an UNO commond to perform the deletion,
that would be available for use in UI customization.

That seems like something that should be corrected. What other actions
are directly implemented like that?

In the meantime, would it work to define a macro that does
forward-character and then backward-delete, and bind it to Ctrl-D?

- Robert

Creating a Macro that does do just that would introduce a (maybe)
unwanted feature.

Executing this while the cursor is at the last position of a document,
the forward-character wil do nothing, but the backward-delete will
remove the last chaacter of your document (if any).

I found the gudea font here:
https://fonts2u.com/gudea.font

When i create a document with the next letters:

éèë

óòö

áàä

íìï

úùü

And export it to PDF, i do see something like the above,
but the 'o' and 'a' line (second and thirg line) is empty.

Must have to do something with the font?
I'm on Windows 10 with LO 6.0.6.2

LibreOffice seems to be offered in the  first language you have there

In Windows 10 you can increase the size of the fonts for all
applications using:
- rightcLick the windows logo, and choos System
- choose Display
- under 'Change the size of text, apps, and other items', choose a
higher percentage (i.e. 125%)

The problem is the wrong choice of the school ('only DOC or DOCX documents')
Try to solve the problem, and try not to find a work-around as solution.

or, another example

if you change B374 to: 01-01-2016
and B375 to: EOMONTH(B374;0)+1
and copy B375 to B376:B385, and change Format cell to 'MMM'

C374: ="D3:D"&(2+A374)
C375:

copy C375 to C376:C385

change D374 from '=SUM(D$3:D$33)' to '=SUM(INDIRECT(B374))'
copy D374 to D375:D385

This can be solved using the INDIRECT function

Example
A1: 1
B1: 2
C1: 3
D1: "A1:C1"
E1: =AVERAGE(INDIRECT(D1))

This will result in E1 showing the average value of cells A1:C1

It's named 'FirstOfNextMonth()'with a reason! ;)
Also note that this 'example' function can be adapted to return another
date (whatever the OP wants).

To return 'NextMonth()' next question should be solved:
What is next month, if current date is 31 januari?
a) 28 februari, of 29 februari, depending on the year being a leap year
or not
b) 3 march 2018, (31 days after 31 januari)
c) something else.

The same question for 31 march, and other months which have a NextMonth
with less days than the current month.

Re: [libreoffice-users] macro to only change month

2018-01-28 Thread Luuk
You can write a FUNCTION to get next month

Function FirstOfNextMonth(dDate as Date) as Date
    if Month(dDate)>=12 then
        FirstOfNextMonth = DateSerial(Year(dDate)+1, 1, 1)
    else
        FirstOfNextMonth = DateSerial(Year(dDate), Month(dDate)+1, 1)
    end if
End Function

When you use = FirstOfNextMonth(Now()) is will return 01-02-2018  (if
your date-format = DD-MM-)

user should know
"

4. Times in cells
A cell can contain a clock time, but the time is really stored as the
corresponding fraction of a day. For example 6 AM is stored as 0.25
because it is ¼ of the way from midnight to midnight, but it is
displayed as 6:00:00 AM. You can use Format → Cells → Numbers → Category
→ Time to display clock times in many formats, for example H:MM or HH:MM
or HH:MM:SS, and any of these can have an optional AM/PM if you don't
want to use 24-hour (military) time. A cell can contain both a date and
a time. The value in the cell is the sum of the integer for the date and
the fraction for the time. Format date/time cells by combining a date
format and a clock time format. For cells which represent durations
(difference of two clock times), the value could be more than one day,
that is larger than 1, or even negative. The previously mentioned clock
time formats display only the positive fraction; Calc adds or subtracts
whole days until the time is between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59. To display a
duration which exceeds 24 hours or is negative, you must enter the first
part of the time format in brackets in the Format code field: [HH]:MM:SS
or [HH]:MM or [HH] or [MM]:SS or [MM] or [SS]. There is no cell format
which displays durations as days with hours/minutes/seconds. Be sure to
remove the AM/PM format code from duration cells since they don't
represent clock times, and always use one of the bracketed formats.

If I want to filter out not equal data now, I use advanced filter. I
put an operator "<>"in front of criteria data and transpose these
criteria from rows to columns. What can I do if I have thousands of
criteria records and there are simply not enough columns in spreadsheet?
Of course I can divided data into several spreadsheets but I want to
avoid that. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

gordom

What 1024 criteria are not enough to solve your problem?

Can you share (a piece) of your problem? Maybe someone knows a smarter
way to solve your problem using Calc.

Hi Don,

Your SELECT statement is indeed incorrect; it seems as though you don't
fully understand joins (I could be mistaken, but your syntax is off
by enough to suggest this).

Firstly, choose a format for your SELECT statement to make it easier to
read. I've reformatted it below using one such formatting standard that
I've used in the past, but you can of course choose your own. The
important thing is that it isn't simply one large blob of text.

Secondly, use table aliases. After the table name in the FROM clause,
you can include a table alias, which you can use elsewhere (including in
the SELECT clause) to refer to the table. These are often much shorter
than the table names, making the whole statement easier to read. Also,
if you are including a table more than once (for different join
conditions), I think you are required to have aliases to distinguish
between the two table uses. You are actually doing this in your
statement, and it gives rise to an ambiguity.

Thirdly, JOINs are complicated, as there are many options: INNER
JOINs, LEFT, RIGHT and FULL OUTER JOINs, CROSS JOINs, NATURAL JOINs,
etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org//wiki/Join_(SQL)

The most common (in my experience) are INNER and LEFT OUTER JOINs.
Don't worry about the rest for now.

Think of it this way:

For inner joins, with the condition in the FROM clause

(i.e. FROM tableA a INNER JOIN tableB b on a.id = b.id)

You are adding all rows from tableA to a result set, then, for each row
in tableB that matches the condition, you are adding all the fields
from tableB to that row of the result set (if more than one row matches
a row in the result set, the existing row is duplicated). If a row in
the result set doesn't match any rows in tableB, it is removed from the
result set.

For OUTER JOINS, of the form:

FROM tableA a LEFT OUTER JOIN tableB b on a.id = b.id

You are doing the same thing, except that should a row in the result
set not match any rows in tableB, it is not discarded from the result
set, and instead NULL values are used for all fields that would
otherwise have come from tableB.

You are absolutely right, but the *syntax* is different in LO
see link i posted earlier

Hi all,

I have a set of tables for contacts, and a somewhat complex query that
seeks all the available contact information on a subset of the contacts.
By "incomplete result set", I mean I have one contact that does not show up
in the query results, but should.

I know why: that contact has phone and e-mail information, but does not yet
have a record in the address table. Everyone else who has an address
record in the address table shows up in the results. I would like to see
what information *is* available (regardless of whether or not there is an
address record (or even if there is an address, but no phone/email
information).

I am fairly sure I need to change the join type (using LEFT or RIGHT) on
the relevant table(s), just not sure how exactly. My current query is
(built in Design View, copied from SQL View):

In design mode, right-click on the link between two tables, and click
'edit'...

If you want to manually edit the SQL, the syntax is shown here:

I think LibreOffice will always start to open documents in the path
specified under:

Tools/Options LibreOffice/Paths/My Documents

a comple list of start options can be seen by entering:
'libreoffice --help'
on a shell-prompt
