The more common encoding schemes are variants of UTF-8 and ISO-8859. For LO you can show the encoding by going to Save As... and check Edit filter settings. In Gleany there should be some sort of drop-down menu to select the encoding you want. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Having been sickened early on by the "advertising" coming from Apple, Samsung and others, the "signature" of my business mail notes that it was produced using Linux and open-source applications. (If I am forced to use a mobile, it notes that K-9 Mail is the FOSS source.) One should be making every effort to promote open source and letting the world know that there alternatives to the commercial applications that try to hold us captive. I don't generally use Impress, but I know from changes in Writer that I have had to look for things (including the Insert Document function from 5.x). I just opened Impress (6.0.3.2) and a) (based on Virgil's reply), found the insert file function slide function (oddly to me, under Slide rather than Insert) and b) checked the help file which in an sub-entry for insert has instructions for inserting either a whole file or selected slides. This is similar to changes in Writer, although, actually, more accessible in the Impress help file than the Writer one. Actually, I cannot find equivalent help in Writer at the moment as the Insert document is now handled by Insert text from document which I do not see documented or at least clearly indexed (at least in my Spanish-language help files), neither do I see the possibility of selecting only part of the text before insertion (which makes the label for the command misleading). Anne and Virgil, I am not sure why some menus have changed, but I think that we have to recognize that LO faces two issues. First, some of the menus are exceedingly long at this point (at least in Writer) and so subject to reorganization. Second, some functions may be redone rather than completely lost, and redoing should, perhaps be our first assumption leading us to either hunt around, check the help files, or, later, resort to the forum. In addition, since we are using the bleeding edge version of LO, we have to expect not only changes, but perhaps some flaws in those changes and be prepared to give feedback. I have discovered one problem with resizing related to Gtk3 in 6.0. I find one change in Word annoying (where one could formerly create columns by marking the text and clicking "columns" and now must insert a section and then the text in the section). There feedback is the crucial thing. The column command change may be related to changing and expanding functionality or simply a lack of understanding of good workflow for the users (although I will give the benefit of the doubt here). In this case I am foregoing feedback at the moment because, while I find the prior organization more flexible and reasonable in terms of workflow, I cannot say it impedes my work. It simply changes the order in which I do things. After filing this with Mageia, it turns out that the problem also appears in Fedora. Re: [libreoffice-users] Limit on resizing windows in LO 6 (GTK)
Thanks to all who have responded, but let me see if I can clarify and add to what I havve learned. 1. The limiting factor is the menu bar (File, Edit, View . . .) where there are no icons. What is worse, I have a Spanish interface which makes some of the items (words only) longer. I have seen no way to change the size of the font on the bar, nor is it possible to hide the menu bar, although there is a work around to create a macro to do so mentioned in LO and OO fora. 2. The Anaphraseus extension is added to the menu bar, not a tool bar. 3. The problem does affect LO 5.4.3.2 which I have on the computer from which I am responding. It did not bother me there because I have yet to add that extension there. However, minimum sizing IS affected by the space required for the menu bar. (As a parenthetical comment, when I work quikly, I can resize the window smaller UNTIL the menu bar loads. I offer this in case someone wants to test on an affected installation.) 4. This is NOT a problem in the Windows version of 6.0. Sizing the window smaller simply progressively hides the menu bar. 5. Although LO has always been GTK based in Linux, I am not sure if it now has a Qt interface to integrate better with KDE/Plasma which may not be affected, hence my addition of GTK to the subject line. (Input here welcome!) 6. MOST IMPORTANT: Now that I understand better what is going on, Tomorrow, I will recheck LO's Bugzilla for existing bugs and if none is reported, will report this. I will also report the bug number to this list, in this thread so that others can see and add to it. Again, many thanks for the help on this matter.
