i wish to use calc libreoffice for my work, list archiver for my inventary and 
video 10.000 and other stuffs..but for calc how i can add formule easy..?
my dream:add extention or add new feature for random (generator):-upper case 
letters
-lower case letters-numbers-number of letters
is it possible for to create new feature or not?

yesterday, i teach my 3 students, they have different os: 1 windows, 1 mac os 
X,1 linux.
during in lesson, Libreoffice Draw (version 5.0.3.2)

-add shape rectangle- mouse click to rectangle (selected) but default colour of 
selected is Blue?

---windows selected colour is Blue---linux selected colour is Blue---Mac os X 
selected colour is Green..this is error or normal?

this is possibile to fix?

i cant return old version of libreoffice because 4.4 is slow and 5 is faster 
and many new features.for now i use my code script worked with path url for 
5.0for moment works only for linux..
if you use linux with libreoffice then you can say me what is your distro linux 
used?

remake new code for 4.4 over, changed gui for dialog of theme firefox, form is 
good and cool gui but it's MISSED path url..you can read all messages

Basic script can't be merged into LibreOffice as far as I know. It needs to be 
in C++.

for now i-m understand, then my experience graphics, publisher, greeting card, 
with LOD is good but not TOP because LOD is not professional for VECTOR 
GRAPHIC, to be software high flexibilit and high professional is INKSCAPE, 
(there are many functional like as CAD, Rhino 3d for SNAP for node and path, 
shapes, page.  i say : it's besf for you is INKSCAPE, but LOD is good for base, 
LOD vs INKSCAPE: WINNER is INKSCAPE. LOD cant not compare to inkscape..becausa 
inkscape compare vs to illustrator (adobe) ok?scribus is for page magazine, 
book, high professional, LOD or LOW is good, but libreoffice will be 
enhancement ok?
but i like libreoffice againt to microsoft office (dollars) ok?

Actually, all I'm doing is laying out a greeting card.  The print shop
needs 1/8" margins, and I'm a stickler for detail.  I agree that Scribus
or a CAD program has more flexibility, but I like LO.

Seems like the consensus is that my suggestion is possible, but will
have to wait for funding.  Makes sense.

Well, if someone cleans up the "theme dialog" again, or any dialog box 
in the future, please make sure the functions/options that were part of 
the old version are still available in the new one.

I lost the use of my favorite theme[s] with the new "theme box 
display".  My preferred theme does not come up in the first selections, 
no matter how I search for it.

hello from Libreoffice 4.3 is best than 4.4 and 5.0 for PATH URL from a theme 
firefox (personas), BECAUSE:4.4 and 5.0 is changed GUI and delete path of url..

libreoffice 5.0 (4.4) search form: 
1) "Dandelion Seeds . Water Droplets" not detected!
 2)"VanillaOrchids" not detected!
 SO THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO USE...instead version 4.3 is TRUE worked 'copy and 
paste' url path!this is true EASY TO USE IT FOR USER NEWBIEit'sRIGHT? 
but please to ask to team developers to ADD new INPUT-TEXT for URL...it's 
simple to add new input-text, it is right?SO to keep the dialog of 4.4 and 5.0 
and ADD new input-text for url, it's possible?

Yes: LibreOffice does this very efficiently.  It's weird that this 
web page suggests an exceedingly complicated way of doing what 
LibreOffice does natively!

That's exactly the brochure facility that I described in response 
to your previous enquiry.

To print an A5 booklet on (folded) A4 paper:
o Set your page format in LibreOffice Writer to A5 and Portrait - so 
it is the actual format that you want in the finished document.
o Set your printer's settings to A4 and Landscape - as the printing 
will actually be.
o Either:
Tick Tools | Options... | LibreOffice Writer | Print | Pages | Brochure
Or (on the fly):
In the Print dialogue, tick Options... | Pages | Brochure.

As before, if possible install a (freeware?) virtual PDF printer, so 
that you can experiment with the technique without wasting paper.

Apparently yes!

Are you speaking of your earlier need to print A4 pages as a brochure 
on A3 paper?

I'm curiosity what is freeware virtual pdf printer?

It's a program which, when installed, appears in your list of 
printers.  But there is no physical printer.  Instead, when you use 
the virtual printer - through the print dialogue in the usual way - 
the program creates a PDF document representing what would have been 
printed.  The advantage here is that you can test the Brochure 
facility without wasting paper.

I can't speak for this platform.  Try doing a search for PDF virtual

You have discovered that drawings in LibreOffice (perhaps 
understandably) behave differently from text documents.  Whereas text 
flows naturally from one page to another in a text (Writer) document, 
material in a drawing (Draw) document is positioned in individual 
slides and does not flow between them.  The moral, of course, is that 
you need to decide on your final format before positioning material.

But there may be a workaround.  You appear now to want to print the 
A4 images on A3 sheets.  LibreOffice has a brochure facility which 
enables you to print images in this way - combining two slides onto 
one page and automatically positioning them so that a resulting stack 
of double-sided A3 sheets will fold into a correctly ordered A4 
booklet with one of your A4 images on each page.

o Return your slide format to A4 and Portrait.
o Print your document with your printer settings at A3 and Landscape.
o To create a brochure, either go to Tools | Options... | LibreOffice 
Draw | Print | Page options and select Brochure, or (on the fly) in 
the Print dialogue, select Options... | Page options | Brochure.

Even if you don't want the slides ordered as for a brochure, you may 
be able to print parts of the document to create the required effect, 
possibly by saving parts of your document as separate documents.  If 
possible, you may wish to install a virtual PDF printer (freeware 
versions are available), so that you can practise to see what happens 
without wasting your nice A3 paper.  Note that LibreOffice's own 
Export as PDF... facility cannot help you here, as this does not 
respect the brochure concept.

Hi :)
What happens if you do click on the thing, as you are supposed to do in order 
to activate it?  Does that de-activate it?  If you move your mouse arrow away 
from the control does it stop zooming?  

If you hover over the control but make sure you are not scrolling the 
mouse-wheel nor pressing any buttons it still zooms?  That's the problem right?

Ok, so you are using LO 3.5.4(?) definitely 3.5.something on openSUSE.  

I'm not sure how to record your desktop on openSUSE, it's probably the same
way i would do it on Ubuntu but i don't know that either.  

I'm still not clear what the problem is.  
1.  Is it that when you move the mouse arrow over the screen it gets stuck
over the zoom controls at the bottom right of the screen?  or does it
 move
away
 from there but stay stuck with the same controls?  Is the
 problem that
once you start zooming then you can't do anything except zoom?

2.  Is it that the zoom goes rapidly from minimum to max or vice-versa
without allowing you to just zoom in (or out) just a small amount?

both Ubuntu 10.04/GNOME [32-bit and 64-bit] and 12.04/MATE [64-bit].  I did 
not wait for the repositories to have the new versions of LO available in 
their repositories.  I prefer to get it from the LO download pages.  I run 
3.5.6 on all my active Windows and Ubuntu systems, and update my stored [think 
of backup or spare systems] to the latest one I use every few months.

I do not know why I do this, except I remember when I installed LO from the 
repository in its early days, the splash screen was different than the LO 
download page version.  So I started to wonder if there was any other 
differences.  So, I just stuck with the LO download page[s] version[s].  It 
works for me.  Others may prefer to deal with the one button upgrading that 
the repository update/upgrade system can do to ease the process.  Being that I 
now run an older version of Ubuntu [10.04], on my default desktop, that does 
not get many back-ported packages, I tend to look at things a little 
differently than someone that keeps their system's OS up-to-date with the

 when my mouse go to over the area zoom slider # is AUTO-DRAG but i dont 
 click drag and move, but it's automatic active auto-click-drag this is 
 strange...
 but maybe problem from all monitors are multi-touch-screen ...maybe this is 
 problem with libreoffice auto drag area zoom-slider??

3 compuers are all-in-one: asus

but problem is not resolved (but works as perfect but there are not 'automatic' 
or 'save to default changed' when i changed config from PDF to PostScript 
(Level from driver)
this problem is not know where is problem from...from libreoffice or linux 
distro (my is opensuse 12.1) this is not clear where is problm.. but few days 
me and users(opensuse and libreoffice) will found resolved and i will reply 
here email users.

BTW ... the fix for the same problem on Samsung and other printers is to 
install the opensource SpliX driver (it may be in the various linux 
repositories). The driver is for any printer making use of the Samsung Printer 
Language (SPL), some of which include printer made from: Samsung, Xerox, Dell, 
Toshiba ...

Once installed it fixes the problems with landscape printing.

I think you will find that the problem is not with LibreOffice, but with the 
printer settings with your Linux distro (OpenSuse). You need to go into your 
printer setup and make sure that you have chosen the right preferences and the 
right driver. If your printer uses SPL (Samsung Printer Language), then you may 
want to try the SpliX driver to see if this will fix the problem.

As you say in your message, it will be nice to know how you fixed this. Thanks 
for doing this.

hello

i use calc LibreOffice 3.5:build-413, with opensuse 12.1 and KDE 4.8.5.

my page format is: A4 landscape (horizontal), this is OK
but
for print : need to rotate left or right (90 degree ) to vertical for print..

Hi,

did you try to first export to PDF and then print this PDF with acrobat or some
other pdf printer? It sometimes can work better than printing directly.

i'm looking for :

1 - how block an image/a graphic to background for OTT?
   -because i wanted to create new document template for my colleagues not 
modify to background OR cancel background..

2 - VERY IMPORTANT: i NEED to be disable over mouse...because when my 
mouse is over to background and click it so i cant write my words because 
background is selected..but background is already to send back (use send to 
back)
like as example impress has MASTER SLIDE so it can't modify background close of 
master, this is very GOOD for impress but i want same to my writer with 
template OTT...how?

i use libreoffice 3.5.4

You want to create a random alphanumeric string?

These may help you in your quest:
=INT(RAND()*10) will create a single random digit as a number.
=CHAR(48+RAND()*10) will create a random digit as text.
=CHAR(65+RAND()*26) will create a random capital letter.
=CHAR(97+RAND()*26) will create a random lower-case letter.

Alternatively, you could make a list of the sixty-two characters; suppose these 
are in A1 to A62.  Then
=INDIRECT(AINT(1+RAND()*62)) will create a single random character from the 
set.

This may give you a start; I trust it helps.

     Normally, gradient background is a part of the background choices
for Writer and Impress, but it is not with Calc. The only thing
available is background colors.
     The cell styles does have a tab named Font Effects. You might get
something you could use from there, but it won't be gradients.
     I don't know how much you know about styles. They are very useful
when using LO. The F11 key will open the Styles and Formating window.
When you open this window in Calc, the Cell styles are listed in this
window. The Calc guide should have information about how to use styles
in it.
