Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 Installation problem
Hi :) Revo Uninstaller has a free trial period and they think that you will find it so invaluable that you will purchase it after 30days or whatever. Personally i intend to try it once, completely declutter the Xp and then uninstall it. I have ended up buying a few things that way. Perfectdisk was a classic example. Have you been able to check the 3.5.x's md5sum or Sha-whatever to check that you have a proper error-free download?|Did you download from the official TDF page or some other website? (many other sites also offer the official download but it's not always so easy to check the 3rd party has got it right on their site) http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If you try to re-run the 3.5.x installer it 'should' offer a choice of 3 options which includes Repair as the top option. I found that useful for adding in components that i hadn't thought i would need. I must admit that i tend to use GnuLinux myself and only use Windows very occasionally now and mostly that is just to fix whatever problem one of my colleagues has run into. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 Installation problem
Hi :) Dohhh, sorry. My turn for missing an earlier post! I hadn't realised you had already tried re-downloading. Sorry chap! It is probably best for you to avoid the 3.6.0 at this point. Beta-testing pre-release versions is better after you have some idea of how to get back to safety. The 3.5.4 is probably the best version to install right now although a lot of us are sticking with the 3.4.6 on machines we can't fuss about with all the time. The 3rd point is roughly equivalent to a service pack so 3.4.6 is roughly like 3.4 Sp6. However the .4 is usually where a branch suddenly becomes very much more stable so i am moving towards getting that on all machines except the one i can really play around with where i will hopefully get time to test-drive the 3.6.0 before it gets released properly. It's always good to try the latest beta somewhere where you don't need to rely on it always working in order to get real work done. We don't normally have all this trouble trying to install LibreOffice on Win7 which is why we are a bit stuck. Usually it just goes through really smoothly. On Xp i would usually approach pretty much any problem by defragging, disk-cleanup, running MS updates and rebooting but none of that should be causing problems for LibreOffice. I think just pick a version of LO, it doesn't really mater which one. Then uninstall all other versions and try installing just the 1 again. By the way do you have OpenOffice, NeoOffice, Lotus Symphony or any othe Office Suite installed on the machine? LO installs easily alongside MS Office but sometimes does have troubles alongside one of the OOo forks. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 Installation problem
Hello, I have done that and there is nothing there. Note that the pop-up window asks me to 'Close LibreOffice 3.5 and 3.5 Quickstarter' and they are not on my computer, so how can I get past this? I think there must be an error in the installation system. How can I get through to the people who put the installer together? Thanks for trying! Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 and Win 7 UAC
Hi :) Ahhh, that is the cunning thing about renaming instead of just deleting your old profile! Either way forces LO to reset back to factory defaults by generating a whole new copy of the default settings. Renaming has the advantage that you can copy back some of the settings from your old folder into the new one until it breaks again. Then you can just delete out the bit that caused the breakage and perhaps gradually pin-point exactly what caused the problem. Most times i don't have time for that as it's faster and easier just to tweak the 1 or 2 things i happen to remember at the time. I do need to start getting more organised about it tho. When I try starting it as a regular user, the splash screen appears and the progress bar starts, but only gets to a point where it says activating Danish dictionary (etc.) and all out of a sudden, Windows concludes that LibreOffice is not working anymore. Does anyone have an idea why this happening? Maybe my registry is messed up, but what are the interesting entries? (The installation is working flawlessly on my Win 7 laptop...) I tried de- and reinstalling several times, but encountered no change in behavior. Any thoughts? I hate Vista. I had to reinstall 3.4.5 twice to get it working on my Vista Laptop. Vista is a bad OS, compared to XP and Win7. One thing you need to do is reboot between uninstall and the next install. Also, I would make sure the program data folder for LO is removed after the uninstall. There may be things that are left in that type of folder that could be the issue. Also, make sure your downloaded version was completely downloaded. Sometimes people have their downloads unfinished from one of our mirrors [which the download system choose for you]. For now, I would stick with 3.4.5. If you can. 3.5.0 is the cutting edge version or some people call it bleeding edge when these type of errors happen. To be honest, unless you need any feature that is new with 3.5.0, I would stick with 3.4.5 for a bit longer. It is always nice to see what the newest version is all about, so to speak, but if you want to use LO without any issues, stick with the previous version when the newest one ends with .0 or .1. These are not for the people who need it for day-to-day, business, or enterprise, applications. I have been using LO since the first month it was out. I am sticking with 3.4.5 till 3.5.x gets to .1 or .2, at least, since I use it for home-office work. -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5
I just installed 3.4.5 on an older DELL with XP Home SP3 and I had troubles and had to do a repair reinstall to get it running properly. With each system, there are differences. Some will install and run with no issues, while others will have issues to overcome. Of course, it did not help that the guy had not used his anti-virus since summer of 2009 [according to the add/remove programs system to get rid of the old anti-virus package and replace it with a new/better one]. Thanks for your answer Jay, Before LO 3.5 I was using LO 3.4.5 with no problems and with no crashes before. Besides, before sending the question, I repaired the installation to test if the first set-up had any problems with the same result and so, I reinstall LO 3.4.5 and it works perfectly. Do you think that the complete removal of LO 3.4.5 with Revo Uninstaller could resolve the problem? Thanks in advance and kind regards. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5: bug hunting session and new features
I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to officially participate in the bug-hunting session. I'm just a user, not a programmer. I haven't even yet figured out LO's bugzilla or feature requests system, so forgive me if I'm putting this stuff in the wrong place. For those who will be participating, I offer the following comments on behavior I've noticed in LO 3.4.4. on Windows 7. I assume most of these issues are well known by the developers. I know I'm reporting these things in the wrong place, but I can't find a place on LO's website for feature requests. 1. The Graphite port of Linux Libertine G has several issues: a. My attempt to use the algn option in a character style for Footnote Characters always results in a crash. b. The itlc and lith and hang options don't seem to work on my system. c. Anytime I try to generate a table of contents in a document using Linux Libertine G, LO crashes. 2. For some odd reason, I've noticed that the Formatting Aids often change by themselves, unchecking every option, so that, when I click View, Nonprinting Characters, nothing shows up. I have had to go into Options, Writer, Formatting Aids, several times to recheck my options. I have NOT noticed that behavior in the Portable version of LO, only in the standard version. In terms of feature requests, I would love to see the following at some time: 1. A tabbed document interface, like Atlantis (rssol.com), or Lotus Symphony (but without all the other senseless changes IBM made to the menu structure). 2. The full path of the current document in the Title Bar. 3. Full support for the expert glyphs of OpenType fonts, such as old style numbering and true small caps. The Graphite/Linux Libertine option is great (even if incomplete and buggy) but it's limited to the one typeface. 4. An easy way to assign hot-keys to special characters (such as Alt-. to insert an ellipses (...)). I have to believe it can be done, but so far I haven't been able to figure it out. (By comparison, Atlantis includes a hot-key option in its Insert/Symbol dialog) 5. A better justification system -- more like that used in LaTeX, especially with the Microtype package. 6. Better hyphenation. I often find word being hyphenated at the wrong location (ex. arbit-rary, instead of arbi-trary). I don't want to sound ungrateful. LibreOffice is an absolutely wonderful package. I've been using Star/Open/LibreOffice since SO 5.2. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5: bug hunting session and newfeatures
Hi :) There si a guide for installing different versions in parallel http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel Hopefully it works a bit better. For a single machine it is probably a lot better to just uninstall and reinstall unless you need to make sure you have a working version that you are familiar with in order to meet unexpected deadlines. Uninstalling and reinstalling is easy and doesn't take long but it's not always time that one has in a working office.
