Re: [RCU] Message date is blank

2021-10-18 Thread Vincent Van Houtte
I didn't know that timezones can have 2 forward slashes in their name.
Maybe test if replacing "America/Kentucky/Louisville" with
"America/New_York" in your configuration makes any difference?

Hello,

Thank you for your advice. You gave us four things to try.
Unfortunately none of the four successfully resolved our issue. The
header of the date field is visible, but no date is shown. For
simplicity I will address each of the four individually.

1) Tried other skins in roundcube?
Yes we have tried classic, larry, and elastic. Larry and classic have
a place for the date but the date is blank.

2) Looked at raw email headers, confirmed there is a Date: header?

Yes, an output of a message header is below.

3) In roundcube config.inc.php file, check $config['list_cols'] has
"date" listed in the array?

When I do a search for the list_cols array, below is the output that is
returned;

[root@hcp config]# grep list_cols defaults.inc.php
$config['list_cols'] = array('subject', 'status', 'fromto', 'date',

As you can see, date is listed as an element in the array.

4) Or confirmed the default (defaults.inc.php) has "date" and isn't
being over written?

Below is the output of ls -al /usr/share/roundcubemail/config.

[root@hcp config]# ls -al /usr/share/roundcubemail/config

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2815 Feb 8 2021 mimetypes.php
[root@hcp config]#

I don't see anywhere in any of those files where date is being
overwritten. If that's not what you mean could you explain further?

I thank everyone for the advice already given and I am grateful for any
additional advice anyone can give. I do need to find a resolution for
this issue. Thank you

I believe the configuration file can be used to set defaults for all
users + you mentioned that only you and two friends are actually using
Roundcube, so that should be manageable as a tradeoff to start from a
squeaky clean installation, no?

Re: [RCU] filter by header

2019-11-13 Thread Vincent Van Houtte

So, you're actually confirming that 'filter by header' is working
correctly, but that it is not sufficient as a measure against spam?

I believe you should direct your attention to configuring a spamfilter
such as spamassassin or spamd on your mailserver and then train that
spamfilter to become better at catching spam - this is not really
something you want a mailclient to handle.

Vincent

Hi FLorian,

Interested in this as well.

Looking through my config, I remember I did not find a working config to
set up authentication, so I just set it to 'none' and blocked the 4190
port in my firewall (Dovecot and Apache/Roundcube are on the same box).
This of course blocks other MUA's as well.

My roundcube configuration is at version 1.4b - yours?

I would suggest to follow the upgrade manual posted on the wiki:
https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail/wiki/Upgrade

I believe the database schema has changed, but the installer (if you
have enabled it) should pick this up and run the update database script.
If not, you could just try to run the script manually - the script is
located in the ./bin directory IIRC (you did dump your database, right?)

Why are you not upgrading to the 1.3 branch? I just installed 1.4b
(admittedly on a very low traffic server) and it runs wonderfully.

bullshit

Field 'alias' doesn't have a default value (SQL Query: INSERT INTO
`users` (`created`, `last_login`, `username`, `mail_host`, `language`)
VALUES (now(), now(), 'arcgraph', 'www.arcgraphics.ch', 'en_US')

the table has a column 'alias' with no default value which is not
listed

in the insert - mysql basics

Although your assessment is correct, it misses the overall picture. The
question relates to an existing installation that was merely updated.
There is no reason why RC would need to create (INSERT INTO 'users') a
new user upon login.

Even if my suggestion would be wrong, I don't see any reason to use such
language, especially from someone dissing the lack of respect of other
people.

Re: [RCU] RCM appears to be the culprit for non-delivery of some emails to GMail addresses

2018-09-03 Thread Vincent Van Houtte

Hi,

Something seems off, and I would not suspect RC as the first culprit:
* PEBKAC: if the receiver has set up rules to move certain emails to a
folder that (s)he didn't check

* PEBKAC: if the email is in a junkmail folder that wasn't checked
* Qmail bug? Maybe increase log level?
* Other bug? At my wife's office, we hit an Evolution bug last year that
was known for many years, but apparently nobody cared enough to fix it
until we were hit - the client reported that sending had succeeded, but
exim never actually sent the email...

In general, I don't believe Gmail would reject email and not warn either
the sender or the recipient. Did you try the Gmail support form?
https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/2920052?hl=en

If you want, I can give you my gmail.com address (off-list) so you can
send a few testmails to me. I have 0 mail rules set up and know how to
check a junkmail folder, so if that can help you solve the issue, I'd be
more than happy to report to you what I did and did not receive.

People,

This is my setup:

Fedora 28 x86_64 workstation + Firefox <=> Fedora 26 x86_64 Server +
RCM + QMail + multiple domains <=> Internet

I have multiple email addresses for the multiple domains I run web
sites and mailing lists for - last night when I mailed to someone from
phr AT philiprhoades DOT org to a their GMail address - the mail was
not delivered. I went through a bit of debugging with the recipient
today and what I know so far is:

- If I use RCM and the phr email address to send mail - even though
the QMail logs say that the mail was successfully delivered - it never
actually arrives - BUT no bounce message is ever received either.

- If I use swaks on the server to send a test email from the phr
address to the same person, it is delivered OK.

- If I use qmail-inject on the server to send the original email that
failed from its Maildir Sent dir to the same person, it is delivered
OK.

So it looks like something that RCM is adding to the headers is being
objected to by the GMail servers or something - of course since
nothing is ever actually delivered or bounced, I can't compare the
header lines of the failed emails to the successful emails so I can't
make any more progress trying to work out what the problem is.

I have occasionally had rDNS issues but my diagnostics don't seem to
fit that non-delivery issue . . anyone got any ideas? Is it possible
that GMail servers can successfully accept emails but then silently
fail to deliver them to recipients?

Thanks,

Phil.

Re: [RCU] SMTP Error (554): ... (5.7.1 <em...@email.it>: Relay access denied)

2017-08-09 Thread Vincent Van Houtte
There is a certain level of added risk if you do not verify the certificate,
but for non-critical systems (that are secured properly nonetheless) I would
assess this risk as acceptable.

On the other hand: since Let's Encrypt started handing out free certificates, I
don't see any reason to hold on to self-signed certificates. The process to
acquire a new certificate and to periodically renew such certificate is pretty
easy.

Do you mean you're using php's mail()-function to send emails? In that case I
suggest you read the changelog before you upgrade...

Re: [RCU] Caldav/Carddav

2016-12-28 Thread Vincent Van Houtte

Cool. Let's see what people have working and what can be done.

The result I'm trying to get: Roundcube with calendars and contacts
that are available through Caldav/Carddav protocols, so users can
switch between RC and Thuderbird or "smartphone" clients with ease.

I tried with OwnCloud first, but the calendar refused to work
correctly with some other clients and the mail app is very limited, so
I switched back to DAViCal as a caldav and carddav backend and have
installed RoundCube as a frontend for both email and carddav (through
the plugin that you mentioned). I have not been so lucky with the
caldav-plugin, and apparently it is not working anymore with newer
versions of RoundCube (although I don't remember where I have read
this).

This is my main concern, up maintaining and so on.

BTW, if you have tips on using DAViCal I'd be happy to see them (I'm
using Postfix/virtual), you can send them here or off-list.

If you're using Debian, then the packages davical and libawl-php should
be installed from the backports repo. It's extremely easy to follow the
DAViCal installation guide and you'll be up and running in no time.
Since this is not the place to discuss DAViCal, I'll send you my Apache
virtualhost config privately. Combined with some DNS rules for
autodiscovery, LDAP (and maybe Kerberos, which I haven't tried yet) for
authentication and Let's Encrypt for SSL certificates, it's a robust
platform. The only thing that is missing really is scheduling with
external people, but a good calendaring client should be able to take
care of this without the need for server-specific features.

Another person replied to me as well (off-list, and I think it's
possible that the ML software doesn't "do it's thing properly"
(reply-to uses the original sender and not the ML's address))

My reply to the mailing list was bounced - you received the email
because you are automatically cc-ed by RoundCube.

It would seem that all we're missing is CalDav client support for at
least a one-solution web front.

With every release, the Nextcloud platform is getting closer to reaching
that one-solution webfront. I didn't try it (very) recently, but if they
nail the 'remote calendar' and 'remote addressbook' functionality, you
could just keep using DAViCal and your mailserver software as the
backend and travel back and forth between RoundCube+InfCloud and
NextCloud as the frontend until one or the other has prevailed.
