Re: MAIL MERGE TO AN OPENOFFICE CALC DOCUMENT

2015-03-28 Thread Alexandro Colorado
I see, I am sorry is giving you troubles. I am not sure exactly how to
reproduce the error and all I can do is forward you some tutorials.

Basically the mailmerge has to do with fields, the Mailmerge Wizards is in
fact a macro that assign these fields and automagically go ahead in a
sequence.

To debug these mailmerges you would need to go to the assigned field and
see if there is something wrong being defined. Fields are very powerful and
can have something more than just squence, but lso conditionals,
randomizers, references, etc.

We have a whole book on Fields[1] that you can learn from. But this is for
your own education on the platform. To solve the issue I think you can
re-build the mailmerge and go step by step (if you haven't have to). And
pay close attention where the field in question is being created. Another
strategy is to breakdown the merge and do the merging in sections, meaning
that you would need to generate the mailmerge with only the fields that you
think have issues and see if this is being repeated in isolation. If this
works, then there might be some other field interrupting the process.

PD: Sovleigh Haugland has an excellent tutorial on Mail Merge althought is
a bit dated, it still works wonders. It explores and redescover the power
of mailmerging. [2]

OpenOffice has a really advanced PDF engine, including index, annotations,

beyond PDFCreator.
And OpenOffice has a PDF icon right next to *Print* on the toolbar,
really no reason to overlook it.

As for Images, I recommend using *OpenOffice* *Draw* instead. You can
export JPEG/PNG/SVG/GIF/WMV etc.

You are welcome and is great that it worked for you. Just remember this

could happen with any piece of file (document, music, image, etc.), for

be redirected to that new player. Is just the way Windows handles
relationship between file formats (pdf, doc, mp3, mp4, etc.) and

Re: Download Problem

2015-02-25 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Well you can edit your windows menu to link to your OpenOffice program. To
do this on a Windows you need to open the Windows Menu, right click and
select, add program and a dialog will ask you to *Choose File* and go to
your *Program Files *directory and select *Apache OpenOffice/soffice.exe*.
This will add an OpenOffice icon on your menu and will have a quick access
to OpenOffice.

Re: need help with a problem

2015-02-19 Thread Alexandro Colorado
OpenOffice is not a company, no offices, no phone. Is a community and a
project, you are free to use it, test it and distribute it.

You can also hire support from companies that do professional support for
it. They do have a phone number:
http://www.openoffice.org/bizdev/consultants.html

We would need more information in order to determine when and how does the
Freeze happens. It could be a third party application interrupting on the
closing process. Please give us the version of OpenOffice that you are
using, the current one is 4.1.1.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do here, but simply inserting a

Re: Can't open OpenOffice files

2014-11-12 Thread Alexandro Colorado
There are many ways to do it.
a) Re-install OpenOffice over itself.
b) Manually assign the file-type to the program.

The first one is a bit more intrussive but is faster. The second one
will be safer but will take more steps.

File association relies on the Operating system and NOT on OO. So the
steps has to happen in windows.

To perform the file association follow this steps:
- Go to Control Panel on Windows
- Go to Control Panel Home Default Programs Set Associations.
Select a file type in the list and click Change Program.
- Select the extensions you neeed (doc, docx, odt - OpenOffice Writer, etc)
For further details go here:

Re: too much memory used

AOO doesnt use that much memory. AFAIK is a 80MB downloaded, installed
is only 370MB. And as far as RAM goes, when using around 500MB of
virtual memory and only 130 of RES memory after opening a document,
(2)spreadsheet presentation, base document and draw document.

So if your computer is under 512MB it should run adecaute. In all
cases an upgrade of RAM should cost u around $25-$ 30 USD.

Subject: too much memory used

Hello:

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been using Apache OpenOfficeOrg for about
three years now and never wrote about this issue.

I swear by this program, but I’ve been having increased problems with the
amount of memory it’s using.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I can get the program to stop

using up to 400K of memory and slowing down my computer.

Admittedly, I should upgrade my memory, but it’s still pretty annoying that

the program is taking up so much memory while I’m trying to write.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Chev

A quick test: make a new Writer file (/File /New /Writer file). In it
type dt, then press F3 key to get dummy test in the file. Now /File /Save
As; put Test into the File name box, Select ODF Text document (.odt) in

Response for #3 above:
You can get the latest version of openSUSE from:
http://www.opensuse.org/en/
openSUSE 13.2 is scheduled for release on Tuesday (Nov 4).
I've been running LibreOffice on it for several months. It works.
ApacheOffice should also run on it. I know it does on the current 13.1.
Also you also run the Chrome Browser or its Linux form, Chromium. I use
Chromium for a lot website, no problems so far. This is sent from my
production side when I use LibreOffice exclusively.

I have not heard if either runs under the Chrome book OS.

The link was for the chromebook script to load opensuse, I know there
is one, but I couldnt find it on google. Is a related project of the
chroagh. There is another one for fedora, all resides on github, but I
cant really seem to find them at the moment. I didnt dedicate much
time either, if people really want to get them, I could spend more
time looking for them. But I think I respond the question here.

The biggest problem however when dealing with Chromebooks is that the
first generations were ARM while the latters were Intel x86_64. So
there should be some pre-selection on which model of the chromebook
you have. I currently own a chromebook HP 14 (intel) and run Arch
linux using the chroagh.

This is not the Distro link, since is not meant to be installed as
dual boot system but as a chroot distro which lives paralllel to the
chromeos and can be started and switch with a keystroke (alt-fn-F3)
while ChromeOS lives on (alt-fn-F1).

If that's the case, then just read on how to export as PDF or DOC and

Re: [libreoffice-users] Is there a way for a Basic macro to detect what application is running it?

2014-10-20 Thread Alexandro Colorado
A
ctually there was another change from the post that I put before, the
Setup.xcu seems to be replaced by the registrymodifications.xcu

This has an ID check that list the following node:
 item oor:path=/org.openoffice.Setup/Office
prop oor:name=LastCompatibilityCheckID oor:op=fuse
 value411m6(Build:9775)/value
/prop
 /item

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a vendor name, but I hink this
could be good enough, unless someone come with a better node.

While checking if the type is a struct can be a good workaround, it's not
completely future-proof; there is a need for a function to distinguish
between version of the Basic API (not only between AOO and LO).

If you did the following try doing /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice

I installed Kubuntu 14.04 32 bit (I have no spare 64 computer). I used the
out of the box (i.e. default) settings.
When it was installed and started up correctly, I used Synaptic to
uninstall libreoffice-core.
I downloaded Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz
double clicked on it so that it opened in the system archive manager, which
extracted it to /Downloads/en-US (other languages will use a slightly
different folder.
I opened a terminal and did
cd Downloads/en-US/DEBS (I already knew where I was going!)
and then
sudo dpkg -i *.deb and answered its prompt for my password.
After that command had finished, I then (still in the terminal) did
cd desktop-integration

sudo dpkg -i *.deb
After this was finished, links to the OO components had been installed in

2014-10-19 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Make sure soffice exist and is not a broken link in /usr/bin/soffice

If you install OpenOffice from our website, it will reside on
/opt/OpenOffice/program/soffice

Otherwise, please check the pacakge information, googling here is the
openoffice package for Kubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/~apacheopenoffice

However is terribly outdate (3.4) currently we are on 4.1.1

My best recomendation is to download from our website.

There sure be an environmental variable somewhere related with the

One way is to consult the Setup.xcu of the product. Here is a forum post

Now I see that 4.1 has been released. With hope that some of these issues

the program to not even open at all, giving me not responding messages,
hijacking my computer so that I couldn't even do things in other
applications and finally I had to force quit it.

If all of that weren't bad enough, I went on your support forum to talk

Not only are you people incapable of writing a fully functional program,

I have also been using it for many years.

Re: AOO Ripoffreport

2014-08-23 Thread Alexandro Colorado
That is how reputation work, is not illegal to give negative reviews
to products. Specially products that respond to enable free ways of
distribution like ours.

However the bigger picture is not whenever if there exist or not
negative reviews (I am sure Firefox and Linux have their own share).
But whenever the industry as a whole recomend OpenOffice which is what
marketing should be all about.

Instead we have a half death marketing list, there is currently no
campaign for the 4.1.1 launch. No preparation for a back to school
or seasonal message we want to transmit and is not like we are
actively looking to give conferences and/or participate with industry
journalists on the IT field.

So in a sense we are doing next to none job on pushing our brand, and
instead we are ranting about relatively small scams.

To your point, we could use an international number even if its just a
recording directing people to use the mailing list for further
interactions.

The reason for filing the lawsuit, would be to remove the misleading

On an equally dis-encouraging note, negative reviews crop up on a number
of sites, usually with even less apparent justification as this one,
but, as happened here, the review is for a completely different
product/service.

Countering the negative reviews, is an arduous process of education.

This seems to be some issues on the operating system side, as the
files aren't really associated with the correct program.

Since we don't have orange icons except for impress is hard to know

suggest to do a screenshot of the icons and put them on

fix any file association on your OS please read this tutorial from

I assume you are using Windows 7/8:

When using Open Office 3 before if I wanted to send an attached piece of

Some have the Open Office icon next to them and open perfectly.

There are also free ebooks on http://www.odfauthors.org/apache-openoffice
And finally on our own documentation site:

Make sure that you donwload OpenOffice from our website or from Sourceforge.

Once done that, please check out our templates here:
http://templates.openoffice.org/

This will help you with your document design issues.

Also to enhance the safety of your documents, please create a folder
named 'backup' and go to OpenOffice Tools - Options and General -
Path to set up the location where your backup documents will be saved.
Here is a very nifty tutorial about it:

OpenOffice has a backup location where you can recover your latest
versions of your work. You access it from Options - General - Paths

You can see where backup resides and get yuour documents.

Also when you suffer from unexpected crashes, you are always presented
with a crash report to fill out. At this stage this is not nearly a
crash report which is completely useless to learn from it.

Re: How to put my resume file from email into the open office application and then send as a file

2014-07-08 Thread Alexandro Colorado
I think what he/she meant is something like what Microsoft Office has,
which unfortunately is not the case in AOO. AOO sends the document to
the mail client as an attachment as opposed to email body.

This makes it hard for a resume user to email his content seamlessly.
there have been projects that have been implemented to fix this but
the issue remain on the email client as well. How can
Outlook/Thunderbird/Kmail, etc return the html document back into ODT?

Until then, email attachments and extra loading steps need to take
place. Maybe some Google Summer of Code project to be solved once and
for all.

We just need to learn how to program the COM instructions and internal
application messaging.

Not sure why you're having a problem. Just highlite the entire resume
and paste it into OO or any word processor.
You should then be able to correct the line and paragraph spacing, and
the font and the justification. The only problem you will
have, I believe, is that any apostrophes or quote marks will be straight
inch marks. And you'll have to go thru and correct them
all one by one.

If there is more to this than meets the eye, post again--I have been
doing something similar to this for some time, as editor
of a small-circulation Newsletter. There is an additional technique i
have used once in a while, but if you don't need it, I won't
go into it, since your distro may be different.

Re: Absurd thing about macro security

2014-07-05 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Can you tell us what does ur macro actually do?

Most of these settings are declared on the XCU whicch are XML. The
schema could have changed or something along those lines like the path
on the ~/.openoffice/ folder.

However maybe you run your macros within AOO which could be a
different service, so until we dont get that information we cant tell
which change could have an effect on your macro.

On 7/5/14, Johnny Rosenberg gurus.knu...@gmail.com wrote:

now run Apache OpenOffice on Ubuntu 14.04 rather than Ubuntu 12.04. Anyway,
one of the first things I did, was to throw LibreOffice out the window and
install Apache OpenOffice.

There are a few spreadsheets that I edit every day, almost, and the first
thing I experience after a fresh operating system install is usually that I
need to add macro paths to the macro security paths list.

I usually add them one by one when I need them and for now I only need to
run macros in spreadsheets at ”~/Kontor/Ekonomi/” (in English:
~/Office/Economy/). However, to open those spreadsheets I click on a link
located in a folder on my desktop, ”~/Skrivbord/Frekvent använt/” (in
English: ”~/Desktop/Frequently used/”). All I did so far was that I added
the ”~/Kontor/Ekonomi/” path to the macro security list thing, and it
worked perfectly for those weeks. Until today.

Now, when opening one of those spreadsheets, it says that it won't run any
of my macros.

So now I just gave up and added ”~/Skrivbord/Frekvent använt/” and Apache
OpenOffice seemt to be happy with that. But why, WHY, WHY, WHY did it work
before today? I've been opening those links all the time since I put them
there, without any kinds of problems!

The only thing that is different now from before, is that I moved my
computer a few meters and that I use two screens instead of one now. How
could that matter?

Best regards

The 'Home' button takes you to the first cell of the sheet while End to the

Because I have arthritis in my hands I don’t use the trackpad, and if
I move the mouse to the right selecting cells it leaps too fast to
control. The only solution I have found so far is to cursor to the far
right cell I want and then mark the text (going left) with the mouse
because the left edge of the spreadsheet stops the cursor. This is
awkward and time-consuming.

The OSX (and OO) keyboard shortcut “Command C” only marks one cell (or
pre-selected text) to copy. The functionality I need was available in
Lotus 123. The lack of it in Open Office is the only reason I have
not moved my larger spreadsheets to OO.

I would like the same kind of command for the keyboard cursor to mark
cells for Command Delete but that is less critical.

Thanks for any help, Maggie

A nonsense. .uno:WordCountDialog shows the Word Count dialog, and
the user can already customize a toolbar by adding this command, as it
was suggested to the OP (the command is under Category Options with
the name Word Count.

Why this is not included by default on the xcu from the toolbar is the
real question, shuffling code around, is really not the biggest issue.

It does make sense to have it on Properties and Tools. Having them on
the

taskbar seems out of place. Just cuz MSO does it, is not a good excuse.

Another nonsense. These are completely different features: a modal
dialog that blocks all user input until it is closed vs. a live status
indicator that gets updated as the user works with her/his document.

Not sure how you define feature, for a user, a word counting tool is the
same feature regarding of its on a modal dialog or a live status. It
serves the same porpouse. And yes, originally I just advocate to have the
modal dialog triggered from the toolbar or from a different menu option
(maybe the panels). Live status was only clear now. This 'live' features
is a different workflow of code but not a different solution for the user
IMO.

OpenOffice does not normally open PDF files. To do so, and to be able to
