Hello Johnny,

I can't reproduce your crash.
I am on Ubuntu 14.04 (32bit). Did you uninstall LibreOffice before
installing OpenOffice?

How to make it crash:
1. Start your operating system.
2. Rename ”~/.openoffice/4/user” to ”~/.openoffice/4/user.old” (or don't,
in my case it didn't matter at all)
3. Open Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 (4.1.1 will also do, I had the same problem
with it)
4. Select Apache OpenOffice Calc (I don't know if Writer has the same
problem, I almost never run anything else than Calc)
5. Hit F11 to open the stylist.
6. Right click a paragraph style, select New.
7. Apache OpenOffice crash.
8. Undo step 2 if you like.

Am I the only one with this problem? If so, where do I start looking for
what's causing this problem?

Re: Crash when trying to create a new style

2016-01-03 Thread Matthias Seidel

You mean you installed OpenOffice with their DEBS, aren't you?
After you uninstalled LibreOffice with:

sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice*
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

I also did a fresh start and "new file" in CALC, no crash...
I use the german version (32 bit) but I doubt that it is dependend on
the language.

As for MS fonts, I have installed "ttf-mscorefonts-installer" from
Ubuntu Software-Center.

Yes, I did, and then I installed LibreOffice with their DEBS. I tested the
same thing in LibreOffice 4.2.6.3 (I installed it a long time ago…),
without a crash. However, when working with a particular document, which
was converted from an XLS file, containing some MS fonts like Arial Narrow
that my current system lacks, I can't edit existing styles. If I right
click one and select Edit, nothing happens (in neither Apache OpenOffice
nor LibreOffice). If I create a new spreadsheet, I can edit styles. Maybe
something wrong with some of my files then…

I'll install the latest stable LibreOffice and see what happens.

Still, the original problem happens after a fresh start of the operating
system and Apache OpenOffice with a ”new file”, so everything doesn't seem
to be my file's fault…

Is this because I don't know where to look or because eCS doesn't supply

I can confirm that it does not occur on Xubuntu 16.04.1. So it may be
related to the window manager.

I will try en-uk on Ubuntu 16.04.1 to see if it is related to the
language pack.

There are at least 2 other situations where I can reproduce a crash.
One was confirmed for 4.1.1 on Mac

Re: JRE non reconnu

Hello Thierry,

Images don't come through on this list and the common language is english.

But I can imagine what your problem is and think this could help (quoted
from the Release Notes 4.1.3):

  * Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 supports Java 8, which is the recommended
configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive
warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case,
download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable
Package

The link is: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

I hope this helps!

Kind regards, Matthias

Re: language settings for downloaded Open Office

2018-04-02 Thread Matthias Seidel
Hi Jane,

You can always download a language pack (en-US) for your version of AOO
from here:
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

After installing it you can change the user interface to English under
"Nástroje - Volby... - Jazyková nastavení - Jazyki".

I think you have to download the English dictionary additionally from here:

If you want to send out a link you must have the presentation at some
place that is accessible for the addressee.

I would use Google Drive, upload the presentation, make it accessible
and send the link:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1a4llxGm-wX1-D3x4PDjey10l-xxgdHSb_tQkQmIpbHk/edit?usp=sharing

You should be able to open this link in a browser on your PC or with
your smartphone (Google apps must be installed) and start the presentation.

If that is what you are looking for, I can give you further details.

I often use Dropbox for file sharing, too.
Apparently the Dropbox webclient can also display OpenOffice
presentations, but I can't get it to use the full screen in my browser.

And if I want to start a presentation stored in Dropbox on my smartphone
it asks for an app to open it with:
Google Presentation ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I don't do presentations on my phone, but if you
have a TV with Chromecast connected, you can easily show it on a big
screen. Nowadays even some beamer have Chromecast built in.

Hi Janis,

Do you use dropbox on your PC? You should get the link by right clicking
on the file, then choose "Dropbox", then "Copy public link"
You can paste that link into your mail.

> As it is a slideshow will it start up from the linkcan I record

If you want to start it from within Dropbox on the phone, it asks you to
install an app for it, mostly "Google Presentation"
With this app, you can start the presentation and you can see your
comments for each slide.

> Also, how does this work with a mobile phone - would pictures show or
> look terrible - and is each slide formated to fit on the phone screen?

Most phones have a 16:9 display. If you prepare your presentation with
OpenOffice it will default to 4:3.
You have to adjust the paper format with "Format - Page..." and change
width/height from 28,00cm/21,00cm to 28,00cm/15,75cm.
Pictures should look the same on the phone, everything gets scaled.

Did you open my link from the first mail? That will give you an
impression on how it works.

BTW: I have only tested on Android. ;-)

   Matthias

OpenJDK 11? I don't think AOO 4.1.5 can see that version.
See: https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html

I am running AOO 4.1.5 with OpenJDK 1.8.0_171 on Ubuntu 18.04.
You should be able to install it from the Ubuntu repository.

He could install Office 700, which is an OpenOffice port for iOS.

There is a free edition (Lite):
https://itunes.apple.com/app/office-700-lite/id1177936371?mt=8

and a payed version for $3,99:

These ports are from the same guy who makes AndrOpen Office for Android.

Of course you could also help to complete the translation of OpenOffice
to Ukrainian (UI is at 85%):
https://translate.apache.org/uk/aoo40/

Then we could release it with 4.2.0.

If you wants to test it out:

The dictionary is published by Stavekontrolden https://stavekontrolden.dk/

You can download the latest version at
https://stavekontrolden.dk/?dictionaries=1

But the download for OpenOffice seems to be broken, the file simply
downloads as "download". Rename it to "da_DK.oxt" and it installs
perfectly in OpenOffice.

Just FTR, the problem with "download" is  quite obvious:

da_DK.oxt

Should be easy to fix...

Language Packs do not contain dictionaries.
You will have to download one from https://extensions.openoffice.org

Normally we bundle this one with the Russian full installation of AOO:

Just put your user name in the field now containing your mail address
(Authoring Information).

Because of too much spam, extensions with external links need to be

Maybe Apple fixed that behavior in a later version?
On macOS 10.15.7 Preview is at 11.0 (999.4)

Did Safari open the link when you clicked on it?
(The visible link isn't changed but the URL behind it)

Definitely!

Try it out and install it through the Microsoft Store app.

Just search for "Apache OpenOffice" that is the only official one... ;-)

I assume you installed the 32-bit version of Oracle Java 321?

You may also need to install a Microsoft Runtime as described in the

Make sure you have Java installed and configured in the AOO options.
Sometimes, when Java is updated it gets deselected.

(Of course, it should give a message instead of crashing)

Depending on your OS (Linux?) get Java 8 or Java 11 installed and
selected in AOO.

As I wrote, that happens sometimes when Java is updated (on Linux via

You didn't mention your OS, I assume it is Windows?

Oracle changed something, and you may now need the MS runtime mentioned
