After you download the package from www.openoffice.org, you have to install it. Did you do that? In Windows, to install it, just double click on the downloaded file. When it's installed, you'll want to use Writer to work on text documents. Again, in Windows, there should be an OpenOffice.org folder containing icons for the various components, where you can select Writer. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

thanks you so much for responding James Knott [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: CURTIS BOND wrote: i have open office and need to know is it similar to microsoft excell for i am in school for my microsoft specialist degree thanks for the info Since you're learning specifically about Excel, probably not. The good news is that, Yes it is similar to MS Excel. Many of the functions and operations work in almost the exact same manner. Under the hood (things that are not obvious to the casual observer) the software operates in a decidedly different fashion. Calc was designed to work with spreadsheets in a very efficient manner but it can in no way be considered a clone of Excel. The bad news is that I would not recommend using the OpenOffice Suite for someone trying to earn a specialist degree in Microsoft. Excel and Calc have too many things different in their methods and operation. You didn't mention what school you are attending but many of them offer Microsoft products at a student discount. Click the box Download OpenOffice.org. Follow the directions. You will come to a page that mentions donations. At the bottom of that page there is a box labeled Continue Download. Click that box. You might want to also look at the bottom of http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.3/. There is a link to md5sum that you need to use to determine if the file you download matches the original file. Re: [users] Need Info on which to download
The most advisable could be not to use the e-mail from your company, but instead to download OO from the net (http://www.openoffice.org/). I would think the program is much too big to be accepted by an e-mail program.
