[ovirt-users] oVirt over gluster: Replacing a dead host

2022-07-17 Thread Gilboa Davara
Hello all,

I'm attempting to replace a dead host in a replica 2 + arbiter gluster
setup and replace it with a new host.
I've already set up a new host (same hostname..localdomain) and got into
the cluster.

$ gluster peer status
Number of Peers: 2

Hostname: office-wx-hv3-lab-gfs
Uuid: 4e13f796-b818-4e07-8523-d84eb0faa4f9
State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)

Hostname: office-wx-hv1-lab-gfs.localdomain <-- This is a new host.
Uuid: eee17c74-0d93-4f92-b81d-87f6b9c2204d
State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)

$ gluster volume info GV2Data
 Volume Name: GV2Data
Type: Replicate
Volume ID: c1946fc2-ed94-4b9f-9da3-f0f1ee90f303
Status: Stopped
Snapshot Count: 0
Number of Bricks: 1 x (2 + 1) = 3
Transport-type: tcp
Bricks:
Brick1: office-wx-hv1-lab-gfs:/mnt/LogGFSData/brick <-- This is the
dead host.
Brick2: office-wx-hv2-lab-gfs:/mnt/LogGFSData/brick
Brick3: office-wx-hv3-lab-gfs:/mnt/LogGFSData/brick (arbiter)
...

Looking at the docs, it seems that I need to remove the dead brick.

$ gluster volume remove-brick GV2Data
office-wx-hv1-lab-gfs:/mnt/LogGFSData/brick start
Running remove-brick with cluster.force-migration enabled can result in
data corruption. It is safer to disable this option so that files that
receive writes during migration are not migrated.
Files that are not migrated can then be manually copied after the
remove-brick commit operation.
Do you want to continue with your current cluster.force-migration settings?
(y/n) y
volume remove-brick start: failed: Removing bricks from replicate
configuration is not allowed without reducing replica count explicitly

So I guess I need to drop from replica 2 + arbiter to replica 1 + arbiter
(?).

$ gluster volume remove-brick GV2Data replica 1
office-wx-hv1-lab-gfs:/mnt/LogGFSData/brick start
Running remove-brick with cluster.force-migration enabled can result in
data corruption. It is safer to disable this option so that files that
receive writes during migration are not migrated.
Files that are not migrated can then be manually copied after the
remove-brick commit operation.
Do you want to continue with your current cluster.force-migration settings?
(y/n) y
volume remove-brick start: failed: need 2(xN) bricks for reducing replica
count of the volume from 3 to 1

... What am I missing?

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and gluster 9 volume

2021-04-16 Thread eevans
My setup is 3 Centos 7 servers hyper-converged with a 4th stand alone engine
server. My issue is Ovirt is reading the cluster disk as 49GiB instead of 5.5
TB is should be.
One server has a 928 GB raid 5 volume, the second has a 7,7 TB raid 10 volume
and the third has a 5.5 TB raid 10 volume. How is Ovirt translating this to 49
GiB??
Here is a link to the screen shots for verification.
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvgvEzKKSZHbhLIrRBvQRLmoZOeEyw?e=rO83vw
Logs look good unless I missed something.
Any help is appreciated.
Eric

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.4, Gluster with multiple disks

2020-06-08 Thread Mustapha Aissat
Hi all,

I have a small question. How to configure gluster to use multiple disks for
a volume?

Do I need to configure a RAID or LVM that group all disks or I can specify
the disks to use in the GUI?

Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Mustapha AISSAT.

[ovirt-users] ovirt 4.3.7 + Gluster in hyperconverged (production design)

2019-12-23 Thread adrianquintero
Hi,
After playing a bit with oVirt and Gluster in our pre-production environment
for the last year, we have decided to move forward with a our production design
using ovirt 4.3.7 + Gluster in a hyperconverged setup.

For this we are looking get answers to a few questions that will help out with
our design and eventually lead to our production deployment phase:

Current HW specs (total servers = 18):
1.- Server type: DL380 GEN 9
2.- Memory: 256GB
3.-Disk QTY per hypervisor:
- 2x600GB SAS (RAID 0) for the OS
- 9x1.2TB SSD (RAID[0, 6..]..? ) for GLUSTER.
4.-Network:
- Bond1: 2x10Gbps
- Bond2: 2x10Gbps (for migration and gluster)

Our plan is to build 2x9 node clusters, however the following questions come up:

1.-Should we build 2 separate environments each with its own engine? or should
we do 1 engine that will manage both clusters?
2.-What would be the best gluster volume layout for #1 above with regards to
RAID configuration:
- JBOD or RAID6 or…?.
- what is the benefit or downside of using JBOD vs RAID 6 for this particular
scenario?
3.-Would you recommend Ansible-based deployment (if supported)? If yes where
would I find the documentation for it? or should we just deploy using the UI?.
- I have reviewed the following and in Chapter 5 it only mentions Web UI
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_hyperconverged_infrastructure_for_virtualization/1.6/html-single/deploying_red_hat_hyperconverged_infrastructure_for_virtualization/index#deployment_workflow
- Also looked at
https://github.com/gluster/gluster-ansible/tree/master/playbooks/hc-ansible-deployment
but could not get it to work properly.

4.-what is the recommended max server qty in a hyperconverged setup with
gluster, 12, 15, 18...?

Thanks,

Adrian

[ovirt-users] [oVirt HC] Gluster traffic still flows on mgmt even after choosing a different Gluster nw

2019-10-16 Thread Stefano Stagnaro
Hi,

I've deployed an oVirt HC starting with latest oVirt Node 4.3.6; this is my
simple network plan (FQDNs only resolves the front-end addresses):

front-end back-end
engine.ovirt192.168.110.10
node1.ovirt 192.168.110.11 192.168.210.11
node2.ovirt 192.168.110.12 192.168.210.12
node3.ovirt 192.168.110.13 192.168.210.13

at the end I followed the RHHI-V 1.6 Deployment Guide where, at chapter 9 [1],
it suggests to create a logical network for Gluster traffic. Now I can see,
indeed, back-end addresses added in the address pool:

[root@node1 ~]# gluster peer status
Number of Peers: 2

Hostname: node3.ovirt
Uuid: 3fe33e8b-d073-4d7a-8bda-441c42317c92
State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)
Other names:
192.168.210.13

State: Peer in Cluster (Connected)
Other names:
192.168.210.12

The problem is that the Gluster traffic seems still to flow on the management
interfaces:

[root@node1 ~]# tcpdump -i ovirtmgmt portrange 49152-49664

What am I missing here? What can I do to force the Gluster traffic to really
flow on dedicated Gluster network?

Thank you,
Stefano.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.3.3 gluster option cluster.choose-local added to 'Optimize for Virt Store'

2019-04-22 Thread Strahil Nikolov
Hello Community,
can someone tell me why the option cluster.choose-local was added to "Optimize
for Virt Store" ?Testing my cluster after the patching showed reduced
performance , due to relying constantly on network instead of using local NVME
brick.I have checked my older volumes and they did not have that option.

Is there any benefit to not use the local brick ?Any issues to reset that
option and use local brick for reading ?

Best Regards,Strahil Nikolov

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and gluster deployment - host name

2018-09-11 Thread florentl

Hello,
I want to deploy ovirt (hosted engine) and gluster on three servers. I
have thought about a configuration but I'm not sure that it's the most
suitable one.

All the servers have 2 ten gigabit Ethernet nic.
I read that, am besten,  I must dedicate one nic for the storage and
another one for the system.

So I will have two netnork address space :
- for the system : 192.168.176.0/24 with a gateway configured
- for the storage : 10.255.255.0/24 without a gateway

Inside my hosts file on all the server I will have :
192.168.176.1 server1
192.168.176.2 server2
192.168.176.3 server3
10.255.255.1 gluster1
10.255.255.2 gluster2
10.255.255.3 gluster2

When I start the gluster deployment I will use gluster1, gluster2 and
gluster3 name. And after the gluster deployment during  the
hyperconverged setup I will use server1, server2 and server3 name.

May I have your opinion about this deployment  ?
Thanks in advance for the help.

[ovirt-users] ovirt and gluster network config

2018-06-07 Thread william . dossett
Hi,

I have my 5 ovirt nodes up and running and starting to move forward with actual
ovirt and gluster setup.

I am using gdeploy for deployment.

the play book fails saying /dev/sdb is blacklisted by filter? I am following
the blog up and running on the ovirt site.

It mentioned adding

# disable multipath
[script2]
action=execute
file=/usr/share/ansible/gdeploy/scripts/disable-multipath.sh

to get it to work, but it does not work. The script 3 section after this does
have the

file=/usr/share/gdeploy/scripts/blacklist_all_disks.sh

in it.

What can I do to get past this?

Also not sure if I should be modifying the script/play as I don't really want
an arbitrator host - if I have 5 real hosts all with the same storage in them?
(10TB in each) and it only account for 3 hosts, can I add the other two later
or should I try to modify the playbook to include these initially? I am sure I
will be setting this up several times before I get it right, but at the moment
I can't get past this error. Any help would really be appreciated!

Thanks

[ovirt-users] ovirt and gluster disk config

2018-05-22 Thread william . dossett
Hey, been a few years since I looked at ovirt. 3 years probably and at the
time I was looking for compute and storage all in one -and was advised not to
basically. So Hyperconvergence is now a thing and want to try it out. I was
looking at the blog - up and running with ovirt 4.1, but it seems that is
mostly for a lab setup. I've got some real hardware I am going to try this out
on as a PoC, 5 Dell R720s with 12 TB raw storage in each. Just wondered if
there was a guide to the hardware setup of my storage that I am missing?
Should I configure the storage as hardware RAID before I start installing the
Nodes? I did setup glusterfs cluster 3 years ago as well but memory fails me
on how I had the RAID controller setup if at all.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] ovirt 4.1 gluster 3.8 repo no longer exist.

2018-05-22 Thread Edward Clay

While checking for some patches on one of my ovirt systems I found that
the ovirt-4.1-dependencies.repo no longer has a 3.8 version available.
I see newer versions but not sure if I just need to change the following
to point to it or upgrade to 4.2.

baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/$basearch/gluster-3.8/

to

baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/$basearch/gluster-3.10/

or

baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/$basearch/gluster-3.12/

Does anyone have the correct procedure I should follow?

[ovirt-users] ovirt 4.2 gluster configuration

2018-02-14 Thread Edoardo Mazza
Hi all,
Scenario:
3 nodes each with 3 interfaces: 1 for management, 1 for gluster, 1 for VMs
Management interface has it own name and its own ip (es. name = ov1, ip=
192.168.1.1/24), the same is for gluster interface which has its own name
and its own ip (es. name = gluster1, ip= 192.168.2.1/24).

When configuring bricks from Ovirt Management tools I get the error: "no
uuid for the name ov1".

Network for gluster communication has been defined on network/interface
gluster1.

What's wrong with this configuration?

Thanks in advance.

Seems to be a problem when building the XML, before sending to Vdsm.

I'm indeed missing even the create command on the VDSM... strange. Can you
file a bug about this?

[ovirt-users] oVirt with Gluster upgraded to 4.2: unable to boot vm with libgfapi

2018-01-01 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
a system upgraded from 4.1.7 (with libgfapi not enabled) to 4.2.
3 hosts in a HC configuration

Now I try to enable libgfapi:

Before a CentOS 6 VM booted with a qemu-kvm line of type:

 -drive
file=/rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ovirt01.localdomain.local:data/190f4096-003e-4908-825a-6c231e60276d/images/02731d5e-c222-4697-8f1f-d26a6a23ec79/1836df76-835b-4625-9ce8-0856176dc30c,format=raw,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,serial=02731d5e-c222-4697-8f1f-d26a6a23ec79,cache=none,werror=stop,rerror=stop,aio=thread

Shutdown VM named centos6

Setup engine

It is not supported yet, i believe it will be in 4.1.5

You will be able to enable it with command

engine-config -s LibgfApiSupported=true

I would like to emphasize once more - is it not supported yet and command,
mentioned above, will not do anything useful right now.

It seems it is ON_QA and we are near there for 4.1.5 and VDSM 4.19.25

But still not understood, how to enable libgfapi ?
Is it supported in 4.1 ? I am confuse.

Please check/share these:

From engine vm: /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log

From the host: /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log, /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/agent.log

Data storage domain is already created and activated. I've also created one

This is the strange behavior, as wrote in my previous, hosted_storage is still
locked and hosted engine VM is visible only as number of VM, but is not visible
selecting the host where it is running.

The hosted_storage is still locked.

How to enable the “Hosted Engine” Host property in the web UI or to force
deploy via CLI ?

If logs are needed, please let me know which one. Attached agent-ha.log (from
first node) and ovirt-hosted-engine-setup.log (from host where attempt to
deploy hosted-engine via CLI).

Apart this, seems that the test environment is working as expected (Gluster ok,
installed VM ok).

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt 4.1.0 - Gluster - Hosted Engine deploy howto

2017-03-15 Thread knarra

Hi Roberto,

Hosted Engine tab is visible only after hosted_storage and
hosted_engine vm is imported to the cluster. Once the first node is
installed, you will need to create a storage domain of vmstore or data
volume . Once one of these storage domains are created, hosted_storage
and Hosted_engine vm is imported automatically. After this you will be
able to see Hosted Engine tab in the New hosts dialog box.

Thanks

I have successfully added all the nodes to the default cluster.

Now I need to activate all the remainder 5 hosts for the hosted
engine, but I haven’t the tab “Hosted Engine” in the Host properties,
so I can’t deploy HE via web UI.

Using command line, I have an error :

2017-03-15 16:58:48 ERROR otopi.plugins.gr_he_setup.storage.storage

The hosted_storage is still locked.

How to enable the “Hosted Engine” Host property in the web UI or to
force deploy via CLI ?

If logs are needed, please let me know which one. Attached
agent-ha.log (from first node) and ovirt-hosted-engine-setup.log (from
host where attempt to deploy hosted-engine via CLI).

Apart this, seems that the test environment is working as expected
(Gluster ok, installed VM ok).

oVirt is automatically detecting the available bricks and generating the
backup-volfile-servers option when connecting to a gluster storage domain.

You can see if this worked in vdsm.log, the backup-volfile-servers option
should appear in the mount command.

Please attach vdsm.log showing the time you connected to the gluster
storage domain, and the time of the failure.

Attach also /var/log/sanlock.log - this is the best place to detect issues
accessing storage as it reads and writes to all storage domains frequently.

I created it with Path ovirt1-ks.test:/gv1 and all works fine, until
ovirt1 goes down.

Then ALL VMs pause till ovirt1 comes back up.
Do I have to list all nodes in the path for this to work?

Path: ovirt1-ks.test:/gv1 ovirt2-ks.test:/gv1 ovirt3-ks.test:/gv1

Or how do I prevent ovirt1 from being single point of failure?

Which type of storage domain have you created - NFS or GlusterFS?
With NFS, this could be a problem, as the nfs server running on ovirt1
can become single point of failure. To work around this, you will need
to set up HA with CTDB or pacemaker/corosync depending on version of NFS
you're using.

If you're using glusterfs, did the hypervisor node go down as well when
ovirt1 went down? Only during mounting of the storage domain (either on
activate of hypervisor host/ reboot of host) is the server provided in
path required to access volume (ovirt1). You can provide
backup-volfile-servers=ovirt2-ks:ovirt3-ks in Mount options while
creating the storage domain.

Please also provide output of gluster volume info. (I'm assuming the
bricks on the remaining servers were online)

This is being addressed in oVirt 3.6. oVirt 3.6 will support gluster

'Storage network for gluster' ,etc.

Stay tuned for oVirt 3.6 release :)

There have been no specific incompatibility issues, so we are very
happy. But as we don't use every feature mileage may vary.

Question: do you use fuse mounts or libgfapi?

I use libgfapi in test, using special vdsm packages and need to test
if rebooting gluster nodes has an impact on running VMs. Select
GlusterFS storage domain in oVirt isn't guaranteed to give you libgfapi!

The best thing is we we're able to kick our Corosync/Pacemaker/DRBD HA

We do recommend using only replica 3 and monitoring your environment and
glusterfs logfiles extensively.

RHEVM 3.5 should be compatible with glusterfs 3.6. It is recommended to

It's production, so I'm using regular FUSE mounts. Although slower, it
works at least with supported packages.

We did spend some extra on hardware and are conservatively staying close
to the Red Hat Storage hardware requirements. So that means RAID10 for
now and a seperate SSD stroge volume.

For our enterprise customers we are waiting for oVirt 3.6 and will spend
even more on hardware (RDMA, Datacenter bridging, PCIe SSD's, etc) but
we have to do a lot more testing before rolling it out.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt and Gluster

2015-07-28 Thread John Gardeniers
What makes me say that RHEV and the community version of Gluster are
incompatible is a message from Red Hat saying so.

Of particular note, the RHSS version of Gluster uses afr-v1, whereas the
community version uses afr-v2. Exactly how the mismatch will manifest
itself or what problems may result has not been described.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt and Gluster

2015-07-28 Thread Alex Crow

Hi,

That does not provide any answers to the OP's questions. And it also
still fails to *explicitly* mention that gfapi acceleration is not
available unless you use oVirt 3.6.0 (which AFAIK is still in beta). I
raised a documentation bug about that many months ago and I still feel
it has not been adequately addressed (ie all the Feature Complete
entries on the page you link suggests it's ready in Stable releases).

He asked about a production scenario. For all that are interested, I've
had very poor results including VM image corruption on my home setup
using plain old KVM on top of GlusterFS. If I can't even get a home
infrastructure working to my satisfaction, what hope is there for a
corporate production environment? I appreciate that this is not really
the oVirt teams fault, but a lot of us are really frustrated in trying
to find a reliable setup for oVirt/GlusterFS and keep banging our heads
against the same wall.

For now for production loads on oVirt/RHEV, we'll be firmly sticking to
iSCSI for our VM storage - I'd rather even roll my own failover using
DRDB/corosync/pacemaker for the lowest capex. We'd love it if we could
use Ceph RBD but for some reason RedHat don't seem to want to drive
that, rather relying on OpenStack Cinder as an intermediary, which seems
silly for a pure Virtualisation setup (ie not a multi-tenanted private
cloud).

Perhaps, being from RedHat, you could suggest the closest community
versions of oVirt and Gluster to your commercial equivalents of RHEV/RHSS?

Thanks

Alex

That popular Linux company uses versions with reduced features and
functionality, which have no direct comparison to the community versions.

2015-07-01 Thread Frank Rothenstein
Hi Sahina,

the UI reports 2 Bricks down, as I replaced another one.

Gluster vol status is fine.

Yes, the machine is not part of the cluster, es the cpu model does not
fit the clusters minimum (Nehalem - Westmere) and the machine is not
intended to be VM host - I did not think of it as a problem to the
cluster.

Hi again,

problem seems to be solved - restarted all glusterd-services on all

Thanks, Frank
