We have an "Announcement Page" which is included in the dashboard which
everybody is using.

So when someboy logs in, they will see the latest announcements directly.

Actually, it's a bit more complicated than that...

It's a page which holds all bits of information, but they also make notes on

the PR stuff, so I need to re-save those pages for the PR stuff to work

2) I think my example shows perfectly what you want to accomplish. You want
to attach an PDF to something which does not yet exist.

Don't be scorned, I am just putting things in perspective. Unless there's an
API which allows you to attach items to pages during the creation of the
page. Otherwise the procedure will have to be (1) check if a user profile
exists, if "yes" then attach file, if "no" then first create the user
profile and then attach the file.

Re: [xwiki-users] Menu crashes if changed by a non admin user (see menu application extension)

2016-12-08 Thread Hamster
Can this issue be addressed?

I have to repair pages on a daily notice because people keep changing pages
which require PR to function OK. It's very annoying. And I keep telling
them, "No, it's not your fault. No, you can't see at this moment if a page
requires PR. Yes, you will break those pages if you edit them".

People who have no PR should not be able to edit pages which require PR!

Thanks :-)

Re: [xwiki-users] Menu crashes if changed by a non admin user (see menu application extension)

2016-07-27 Thread Hamster
The main problem here is that, as a simple user, you can't see that a page
has been saved with PR.

Thus, simple users will constantly break pages which require PR to function
properly.

A simple user should atleast get a warning that a page has been saved with
PR. Maybe a simple user should be denied to edit a page which has been saved
with PR.

Re: [xwiki-users] Delete page - Error number 0 in 3: Exception while hibernate execute

2015-10-08 Thread Hamster
We are not upgrading XWiki at all, we created a new server where XWiki runs
on. :-)

In short:
Our ICT created a new ubuntu server with TomCat7, Java7 and localhost MySQL
server.
They then put xwiki.war in the TomCat7 folder.
They made an SQL dump of the "old" XWiki and restored that on the new MySQL
server (and created an xwiki user with all priveleges to the xwiki
database).
They edited the Hibernate file so it refers to the new xwiki database.
They edited setenv.sh with the settings for the Java Heap Space.
They then opened/started XWiki and SKIPPED the upgrade (it's not an upgrade
but a new server).

Re: [xwiki-users] Delete page - Error number 0 in 3: Exception while hibernate execute

2015-10-08 Thread Hamster
It's not a new war file, it's the same war file (only now on a different
server)

I will try to explain again :-)

We have "Server A" (running XWiki 5.4.3) but we want to move everyting to
"Server B" (which will also runs XWiki 5.4.3).

On "Server A" we made a dump of the MySQL (all the xwiki pages).

On "Server B" we have installed ubuntu, TomCat7, Java7.

We then copied the war file from "Server A" to "Server B". On server "B"
TomCat extracted the war file automaticly. We then restored the dump on
"Server B".

So "Server B" has the same war file and xwiki pages as on "Server A".

Does this make any sense? :-)

Re: [xwiki-users] [ANN] XWiki 7.2 released

Just wondering...

In the release notes you always have a section "Tested Browsers &
Databases".

You list several browser and several databases that you support and how they
have been tested. None of the browsers and databases are being tested (or so
you say :-).

Regarding the supported browsers, you mention IE8 and IE9 in your release
notes, but on your Browser Support Strategy
  ,
IE8 and IE9 are listed as NOT supported. IE10 and up is.

Copy-paste of old info?

Re: [xwiki-users] Change Page Owner

2015-08-24 Thread Hamster
Our use case:

We use a script that displays the childpages of a page (the user can also
choose how many columns that list should have). These pages are display in
alphabetic-order based on the PageName (not display name).

In order to change the order of that list, one must rename the page...which
only the owner of that page can do (or an admin, but I don't like giving
admin rights to other people :-)

Giving a user the right to rename a page would indeed solve my problem :-)

Re: [xwiki-users] User Permissions Issue

2015-04-08 Thread Hamster
Here's how I have created the permissions of our spaces:

SpaceAdmin - Thicked all
SpaceEditor - Thicked View, Comment and Edit
SpaceViewer - Thicked View and Comment

So basicly your first screenshot. There's no need apply any Deny rights.
The thicks of the SpaceAdmin will deny those rights for anyone NOT in the
SpaceAdmin group. Thus you need to apply the thicks on View, Comment and
Edit in the other groups.

In order to see these right changes, I always close my browser (IE11) and
open XWiki again.

HTH!

Re: [xwiki-users] RE Suggestions for new Photo Albulm Xwiki

2015-03-21 Thread Hamster
Great idea guys!

There are several Photo/Pictures Extensions available in XWiki, but maybe
you guys can combine the best of those (and add some fancy stuff like
transitions to it)

Lightbox Macro
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Lightbox+Macro
Gallery Macro
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Gallery+Macro
Photo Album Macro

Photo Album Application

If you guys have some spare time, maybe you could also look into creating an
Organogram With Pictures Extension :-)

Something like:

What I would like to see in XWiki 7.x:

- A standard way of navigating the Wiki (I know there a several Extensions
available, but this needs to be a basic feature of XWiki). This is my no. 1
complaint ;-).
- Better layout, with numbered headers. This is the no. 1 complaint from our
users. They are used to the way MS Word is able to format their documents.
Numbered lists with blank lines for example.
- A standard Table of Contents, which displays the headers on a
(large)page. This TOC should be dockable/collapsable, iow always
available to the users.
- Automatic Update/Upgrade to latest XWiki version.

Re: [xwiki-users] Diagram Application

Yes, I am aware that this extension is not supported by the XWiki Dev Team.

Thing is, I lack the skills to fix the problems myself, so the only thing I
can do is report them and hope that someone does fix the issues. But when
times passes by...and the bugs aren't fixed...the app remains unuseful...

So here's me again, hoping that things get fixed. Or otherwise I would like
to suggest that the XWiki teams *removes* the application from the XWiki
Extensions. There's no use in keeping extensions in that list when the
application is broken (which it is right now).

In that case, I am in the weird section :-)

Here's what I am doing:

1) Create a new page, type some text, hit Save View. The page is created
in the correct space, with the correct parent.
2) I edit the page, use Import--Office Document and import a small docx
document. The import is succesful, but as soon as the import is done, the
parent of the page is erased.
3) If I delete the page, it will be moved to the recycle bin, I then have
the option to restore or delete. I hit delete -- I will get a warning
that this can't be undone (which is what I expect), but if I hit ok, I
don't get the The requested document could not be found. You can edit this
page XXX to create it, but XWiki creates a new blank page instead.

So something weird is going on when using the Import Office Document (in the
WYSIWYG editor).

Caled,

Nice work, but you have got a bug where the edits of one user can undo the
modification of another user.

Here's what I did:

I opened two windows of Google Chrome, displaying the Demo Time section.
If I type something in one window (window A), the text appears almost
instantly in the other window (window B)...nice work! But if I select some
text in window A and I make it BOLD, that change is /not/ reflected in
window B. If I now type something in window B, the text which was made BOLD
in window A is now undone.

Re: [xwiki-users] Wiki page seems to have two parents?

2014-08-12 Thread Hamster
Hi Marius,

Thanks for your reply.

Even if I set the page parent to something else, that change is not saved,
and the page then refers to itself as its parent.

And what about the permanent delete issue? If I delete a page, you will
get a page saying that the page has been moved to the recyclebin. That page
offer two options, (1) restore or (2) remove. If I select option 2, the page
should be removed permanently, but instead a new blank page is created.

Any insight into this matter is appreciated, as I have no clue what is going
on!

Thanks.

[xwiki-users] Wiki page seems to have two parents?

2014-07-17 Thread Hamster
To all,

Something strange is going on with one page in our Wiki. The page has been
created by importing a Word document (.docx), but after the import, the page
seems to have two parents.

The page shows up in the WebHome of the space, but also under the parent
page where the document was created in the first place. Furthermore, when
editing the page and looking at the parent property, it seems to be empty
(or refering to itself).

Has anyone encountered this before?

Also, when I delete the page it will be moved to the recycle bin, but
permanently deleting the page from the recycle bin creates a new blank page
with the same name...

Great report Vincent, it felt like I was watching over your shoulders, seeing
your wife struggling with XWiki for the first time. The Backspace issue is
hitting me in the face once or twice every year (mainly when visiting a
website, filling a form, loosing focus on a textbox, hitting backspace to
erase a character...and Chrome/IE navigates to the previous page, loosing
all entered information...you get the picture)

I can relate to the issues you have described. I am also getting the most
basic questions from our novice users (for example, Can you put this piece
of text on the wiki?). Reading your report reminds me that being an XWiki
Administator or being a first-time user...it's a huge difference :-)

Even after writing a custom XWiki Manual and giving a short training

links to other pages..) people don't have a clue what they are doing! :-O

[xwiki-users] Trouble with Localization

2014-06-06 Thread Hamster
We found out that we have several pages created in a different language than
the default language in our Wiki. Problem is that those pages are not found
directly when we search for them.

Our default language is nl, but we also got pages in en and pages which
have no launguage at all.

I want to fix those pages, so I turned Localization back on, added nl and
en as available languages. Now the EN button appears when I am looking
at the page(s) which are created in English. But I don't see how I can
*change* that page into nl.

Any help is appreciated!

On a side note, how can I find ALL pages which are not written in Dutch?

Re: [xwiki-users] Macro registration

2014-05-10 Thread Hamster
One thing you could try:

1. Go to the page with the macro
2. Edit--Objects and save the page

It helped me one time when my macro was no longer recognized. Maybe it will
help you too?

Re: [xwiki-users] [ANN] XWiki 6.0 Release Candidate 1 released

2014-04-23 Thread Hamster
Just some feedback:

I tried to run the ZIP version, but when I launch start_xwiki.bat, a
windows cmd screen flashes and nothing happens.

With a bit of excellent timing hitting the Print Scrn button, I was able
to capture the cmd screen :-)

It displays: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jr7\bin\java.exe is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file.

Which is true, as I havn't installed Java7 :-)

It would be nice if the windows cmd would not close, so a user could read
the actual error message!

Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] Menu Application rendering content

2014-04-19 Thread Hamster
Hi Marius,

Originally I simply copy-pasted the example code:

{{menu type=vertical collapsible}}
{{velocity}}
#set ($depth = 3)
#set ($limit = 10)
#macro (children $parentDoc $level)
  #foreach ($child in $parentDoc.getChildren($limit, 0))
#set ($childDoc = $xwiki.getDocument($child))
$stringtool.repeat('*', $level) {{html}}
$escapetool.xml($childDoc.plainTitle) $childDoc.getURL()  {{/html}}
#if ($level  $depth)
  #children ($childDoc $mathtool.add($level, 1))
#end
  #end
#end
#children ($doc 1)
{{/velocity}}
{{/menu}}

But that generated the nested scripts error.

I then checked the object, and noticed that there's a UIEntensionClass with
the following code:

{{velocity}}
#panelheader(Navigation)
{{menu type=vertical collapsible}}{{include
reference=xwiki:Menu.Navigation /}}{{/menu}}
#panelfooter()
{{/velocity}}

So I changed the original example code to...

{{velocity}}
#set ($depth = 3)
#set ($limit = 10)
#macro (children $parentDoc $level)
  #foreach ($child in $parentDoc.getChildren($limit, 0))
#set ($childDoc = $xwiki.getDocument($child))
$stringtool.repeat('*', $level) {{html}}
$escapetool.xml($childDoc.plainTitle) $childDoc.getURL()  {{/html}}
#if ($level  $depth)
  #children ($childDoc $mathtool.add($level, 1))
#end
  #end
#end
#children ($doc 1)
{{/velocity}}

...which solved the error.

Re: [xwiki-users] D3js not working on XWiki 5.4

2014-04-09 Thread Hamster
Woot! I finally have a working example!

I have updated the D3 Example
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/D3+Example   with the
the changes I have made to make the example work.

Basicly I wrapped the whole existing script in a function which reacts on
the d3:loaded event, and I added the on demand use of the d3js extension
(instead of using the online d3js).

There are still some bugs (for example using the WYSIWYG editor), but that's
for another day :-)

Re: [xwiki-users] Clickable bar macro

2014-04-03 Thread Hamster
Do you mean the navigation on the top of that website? == Menu Application
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Menu+Application

Or do you mean the grid on the page?

HTML (with a div with all text aligned center)
ICON Macro

I have created a quote macro for our company:

{{velocity}}
#set($name=$xcontext.macro.params.Name)
#set($quote=$xcontext.macro.params.Quote)
{{html wiki=true}}
div style=
display: inline-block;
width: 50%;
max-width: 640px;
min-width: 320px;
padding-left: 5px;
background-color: rgb(255,255,204);
border-radius: 5px;
border-width: 2px;
border-style: solid;

**$name**br
{{icon name=quote-left size=2x
title=Quote}}{{/icon}}//$quote//br{{icon name=quote-right size=2x
title=Quote}}{{/icon}}
/divbr
{{/html}}
{{/velocity}}

You could put multiple quotes in a Column Macro. I hope this gives you a
start!

[xwiki-users] [BUG] Do the attachments hustle

2014-04-02 Thread Hamster
Can someone please reproduce these steps?

First prepare 2 documents for upload. Let's say 2 MSWord documents, A.doc
and B.doc.

1) Create a new page, enter some text
2) Upload A.doc
3) Remove A.doc
4) Upload B.doc
5) Activate the version where you uploaded A.doc (should be version 2.1)
6) Delete the latest version of the page (this *should* take you back to
version 4.1 where you uploaded B.doc)

Examine the attachments page:
It will show A.doc and B.doc (which in my opinion is strange, because I
would expect to only find B.doc).

Try to open A.doc (this is possible), now try to open B.doc (this is NOT
possible).

What I would have expected:

Deleting the last version of the page should take be back where only B.doc

But now I have BOTH attachments (small bug), and B.doc is NOT accessible!

Re: [xwiki-users] Profile Pictures not displayed after upgrade

2014-03-27 Thread Hamster
We also receive this error when we want to insert a picture.

Looks like something went wrong when we upgraded from 4.0 to 5.4.2

How can we fix the pictures from the database?

Re: [xwiki-users] Attachments on new pages that contain 'Objects' of 'Class'.

2014-03-27 Thread Hamster
I would...

...let the users fill in the form
...let the users browse for attachments and store these vars

Only when the user hits Apply (or Save and View), then...

...create the page (with the contents from the form)
...attach all the attachments from the stored vars

If the user hits Cancel, then no page will be created and no attachments
will be uploaded.

Thanks Marius,

We have made some more tweaks to the startup script, the pictures are
working again.

Thanks again for helping out!

[xwiki-users] Profile Pictures not displayed after upgrade

2014-03-26 Thread Hamster
We have upgraded our XWiki from 4.0 to 5.4.2

We have managed to get almost everything up and running, except that the
profile pictures are not shown (only a small black cross is shown, with the
text Picture of XXX

Also, lots of pages do not show the attached pictures.

I think both are related, but I don't know where to search or what to
change!

Re: [xwiki-users] Profile Pictures not displayed after upgrade

2014-03-26 Thread Hamster
We have taken a look at the URL.
For the pictures that DON'T load, the URL has extra parameters
(?width=120height=500) for example.

One picture even had
(width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500width=500...)
etc.

The picture can be accessed normaly on the attachments tab.

The xwiki.store.attachment.hint in the xwiki.cfg is all set to hibernate
(which is the default setting).

So the problem seems to be the extra parameters in the URL...how can we fix
those?

Re: [xwiki-users] Diagram Application

2014-03-26 Thread Hamster
-bump-

We are now on XWiki 5.4.2 , but the Diagram Application is still suffering
from the reported glitches.

IE11
1) If I use the Show or Save View, IE want to navigate back and
informs me that all modifications will be lost

2) When in edit mode, the graphics (like the iPhone) are not being
displayed.

Chrome (I can use the Show and Save View buttons)
1) In the preview, I can see the iPhone graphics, but as soon as I save
the page, only a gray rectangle is shown.

These bugs make the Diagram Application unusable (and that's a pity as I
like the functionality of creating diagrams).

Re: [xwiki-users] Upload error (XWiki 4.0)

2014-03-25 Thread Hamster
We have no problems with smaller files.

Thing is...there are already files attached to that page. A 26.5 Mb Word
Document and the 9 Mb PDF file.

How come that uploading a file (9 Mb) in the first place is no problem...but
uploading a new version is?

Re: [xwiki-users] XMPP client/server status?

2014-03-21 Thread Hamster
The  XMPP Chat Application
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/XMPP+Chat+Application
clearly states that it only works with Jetty. (This extension only works
with Jetty (no tomcat and no apache front-end server))

So maybe the  Chat Application
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/ChatApplication
does the trick for you?

[xwiki-users] Upload error (XWiki 4.0)

2014-03-21 Thread Hamster
Today a user tried, but failed, to upload a document to our XWiki 4.0
It was an existing document, so XWiki should have created a new version.

So I tried to upload the file myself, but...

Uploading file to PAGE_NAME

Message
Failed to upload one file.
Internal failure while attaching:
NAME_OF_DOCUMENT: NullPointerException.

Not a lot of info, clicking on the NullPointerExceptio does not reveal any
more info.

The PDF is only 9Mb...so that should not be a problem, right?
