[xwiki-users] [myxwiki] new wiki request

2010-04-28 Thread hel-o

Hi,

mayby the dev-list was the wrong place for this, so again:

had my own xwiki where i wrote my diploma thesis. Got server problems and

Would like to have a xwiki instance again for my wiki (subject, - semantic
web, knowledge management, web 2.0 and some personal stuff)

My user name on myxwiki.org is hel. My preffered servername is
semantic-web.myxwiki.org

Thanks
hel.

Re: [xwiki-users] XOffice : login problem

2010-02-26 Thread hel-o

Hi,

is there a issue for that now?

We got the same problem and in the documentation theres a description how to
get short URLs which includes that you change the 'xwiki' directory to
'ROOT'

http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ShortURLs

So i think that you should be able to have that setting. Mayby a advanced
settings option would prevent the normal user to see 'strange settings'.

Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] Translations

2010-02-24 Thread hel-o

Hi,

id also like to suggest, that we come to some form of cooperation in doing
the german translation since i did most part of it till yet (and hope that
not all of it is incorrect german :).

One question to the developers is there a possibility to have a editable
page or space in the translation wiki wher translators could share their
thougts and keep a terminology for their language.

Thanks

Yes thats great.

Also i too think that the proposal thomas made would be a better solution in

Theres also a problem with international characters in tags.

The tag is created ans assigned to the page but when when you look at the
tag pages there are no pages listed. Seems to me xwiki search has a problem
with international characters.

Hi,

yes it works.

200 MB would be 209715200 Byte (according to

The Byte Converter  ;-) )

I never tried to increase the max upload size to 200MB but 40MB worked.

Re: [xwiki-users] IE-Display problem (Solved)

2009-11-26 Thread hel-o

Hi,

found the problem, changed the following part of colibri.css

 h1 span, h2 span, h3 span, h4 span {
overflow:hidden;
display: block;
position: relative;
background-color: inherit;
padding: 0;
margin: 20px 0;
}

h1 span span, h2 span span, h3 span span, h4 span span {
display: inline;
margin: 0;
border-bottom: 0;
}

to

 h1, h2, h3, h4 {
overflow:hidden;
display: block;
position: relative;
background-color: inherit;
padding: 0;
margin: 20px 0;
}

h1 span, h2 span, h3 span, h4 span {
display: inline;
margin: 0;
border-bottom: 0;
}

don't know but i don't think there is span span :)

hel.

In 2.1M1 it works mayby i'll check the differences in the stylesheets.

[xwiki-users] IE-Display problem

2009-11-18 Thread hel-o

Hi,

got something intresting,

i have a table with divs with headings (syntax 2.0, XE 2.0.2)

|(((
=== Heading ===
)))

The Heading is displayed fine in Firefox but is not displayed in IE with
Colibri skin. Using the Toucan skin it is displayed in both browsers.

For further investigation I looked at the source code of the page where i
get something like

tabletrtd
div
h3Heading/h3
/div
/td/tr/table

In IE somehow it seems the span is displayed but not its content. Changing
the font-size in IE the text appears, refreshing the page the text
disappears.

Any suggestions cause i really cant figure out what happens there.

Thanks
hel.

Tried that (if you meant exchanging

Same result

Re: [xwiki-users] XWiki 2.0.1 problem after update

Sure,

any way to get those pages to work.

We imported a lot of pages with the office importer without filtering styles
(not my idea :)

Those pages were displayed fine in 1.9.3 and i cleaned them when ever i
changed one of those pages.

But there were still plenty left and all those pages don't work anymore
after the upgrade:(

Thanks
hel.

breadcrumb is breadcrumb title is title (at least i see a difference in the

it will be appropriate that the title is displayed in the breadcrumb. But
when i have e.g. very long titles it may be better to have a short form of

 no title - page name in breadcrumb

 Ok true. To be honest, I would personally remove the level 2 as a
 header candidate since I don't see any logical reason to have it.
 Could you explain your need to have level 3-6 headers to be considered
 as dynamic titles?

If i use the wiki for documentation and to create structured hypertext, i
will have my document at severel levels in the wiki (which has some real
gread advantages - topics reusable in severel contexts, topics
interlinkable in strucure and cross structure ...)

But i will also have the need to create printable versions of my
documentation form time to time. XWiki has a real good export mechanism
(with still some need of improvement) where i can also export page
structures (includechildpages). If i use this i'd like to have the structure
also reflected in the titles (in this case headings). So a title in topic in
level 3 should become heading 3 ...

If all topics have heading 1 the exported document doesn't reflect the wiki
structure anymore.

Hope i made my points clear
hel.

Hi,

I agree, this will work in most cases (in fact in almost all cases;).

 For this use case I think it should be the job of the exporter to maintain
 a
 right title structure by automatically recalculating all titles and
 turning them into level 1, 2, 3 etc titles on the fly according to the
 logic
 of the final document.

 Thus the child page of a child page of the original page would have its
 title automatically transformed into a heading 3 and its heading 1 turned
 into heading 4 and heading 2 into heading 5 so that the exported document
 looks good.

 This way the page would look good while on its own but also when exported.

 Wouldn't this be a better solution?

That would be great, but seems to add a rather complex task to the export.

In the end it's a question on how much control the user has over the content
and how its displayed and how much is controlled automatically by the wiki
(which may be seen as a restriction, especially when things that worked
before don't work anymore:).

2009-10-14 Thread hel-o

Thanks for both replies.

First of all, I'd like to use the new strategy but in my opinion it's not
ready for use now and has some restrictions.

My problem is not that i didn't use titles. I do use titles quit a lot and
think that the use of titles is somhow restricted now.

Further more, i'd like to choose the level of the heading of my pages more
flexible. (Not only heading 1 or heading 2)

I'll try the suggested way to bring back the old behavior to let you know if
it works. But i think i'll switch back as soon as the encoding bug
(http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-4417) ist fixed.

Thanks

 Please note that you should do this only very temporarily since this

 - use titles
 - remove previous level 1 headers
 - move all other level N headers to level N-1 headers.

   8. Scroll to the bottom of the page

Tried to explain that in in my post that was followed by the fix Guillaume

- No possibility to have different Title and Breadcrumb
- No multilanguage support - see encoding problem
- Only heading 1 and 2 possible as heading of page, if different heading and

they are converted correctly to syntax 2.0 and are working there too

[[file://svivm01/sharepoint_layouts$file:/svivm01/sharepoint_layouts$]]

But when we edit those pages in the new WYSIWYG the Links just
disappear!!!???

Why?

Re: [xwiki-users] xwiki 2.0 issues

Hi,

and thanks for your answer. Now i know what works and what does not work
anymore.

Guillaume Lerouge wrote:

 Do you mean a title different from the link in the breadcrumb? If this is
 what you mean then yes, you can no longer have a title that's different
 from
 the breadcrumb. We could maybe improve how breadcrumbs are displayed and
 truncate them when they're too long.

In fact i think you are right, cause the title was not used as page title in
the past, it was the title thats displayed in the breadcrumb. So mayby it
shouldn`t have been called title or changed to the behavior we have now.

Still sometimes it may be necessary to have a short title for the breadcrumb
and a full title for the page. Don't know if its a good idea to truncate the
title because that gives now control over the part displayed in the
breadcrumb and if it makes sense.

Guillaume Lerouge wrote:

 You can have a level 1 heading right at the start of your page after the
 title as long as it's different from the main title.

 Well, actually it somehow is: if you don't use the title field at all, the
 first heading of your documents will be considered a title like it used to
 be.

In the moment only heading 1 and 2 are used as title if theres no title
given. I sometimes have pages that have heading 3 or 4 as title - when
theres no title the page name is used - not good

You know this is hypertext and i dont want to have endless topics but i also
want to have the headings set to the correct level if i export my topics for
print output and i think that is necessary if you use the wiki for
documentation or writing more complex documents.

There's also the problem that xwiki at the moment is not able to display
special characters (äüö) in the breadcrumb if you don't use the title.

Guillaume Lerouge wrote:

 Sorry about that. I was (and still am) on of the strong proponents of the
 new behavior. I've heard many users complain about title handling in the
 past and I think the current version addresses these longstanding issues.
 However I know it's annoying for existing users such as you and I'd like
 to
 apologize for that.

I know that sometimes things have to be changed and mayby this was changed
for the better, but at least existing users should be informed about
consequences and the release notes should reflect the new behavior. Looking
at this discussion and the release notes for 2.0 they don't.

http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise20#HNewTitlehandling

By the way (because i don't only want to complain all the time) xwiki 2.0 is
really a great release and with every release working with xwiki becomes
even better.

Re: [xwiki-users] xwiki 2.0 issues

2009-10-07 Thread hel-o

Hi,

i'm still wondering if the new title handling is really working how it
should be. My main issue is, that its not possible anymor (as far as i can
see) to have different title and heading (e.g. title - short form of
heading).

Also it's not possible to disable the new title handling and get back to the
old behavior.

It's a little bit annoying cause i use title and headings quite a lot and
now evertything is messed up and i get doubled titles everywhere.

Hi,

some questions:

1) section editing

Edit button is also displayed for unregistered users (when nobody is logged

disabled section editing in xwiki.cfg

Edit button is still there

2) Title handling

tryed to disable it in xwiki.cfg

Get Title and Heading always but was awaiting old behavior.

Also had a problem with a long heading:

Entwicklung der empirischen Sozialforschung in Deutschland seit 1945 -
Aufgaben für die Zukunft

Head it as Title and as heading 1 (also tried heading 2).

Was always displayed twice (title + heading). Is there a length restriction
for the title.

Re: [xwiki-users] GWT-WYSIWYG Bug

2009-09-25 Thread hel-o

Works when i edit in Wiki-Mode.

Just found something else when you change

Text: to italic in WYSIWYG and Save it // is added

- Display Text://
 Code //Text:

When you open it in WYSIWYG and save again another // is added

- Display Text:
 Code //Text://

and so on

 Right now it's not possible to pass params to macros. It's planned but
 not done:
 http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-3237

 You can watch and vote for this issue.

 What you can do though is this:
 {{box cssClass=floatinginfobox title=**Contents**}}{{toc start=2
 depth=3/}}{{/box}}

 or

 (%  %)(((
 {{toc/}}
 )))

Wow great, so you can creat a div when you use ((( )))

Wouldnt it be better to call it Embedded Blocks since divs are block
elements?

Groups you already use for User Groups

[xwiki-users] Special Characters in Titel

2009-06-04 Thread hel-o

Hi,

I inserted Text Text in the title field of a page. When i edit the page
again the Text part disappears.
Tried other special characters (; @) and everything seems to work normal. So
its only the character that makes problems.

(XWiki 1.8.4, syntax 2.0, language: german)

Is there a way to have heading levels 3 or above also used as titel when the
title field is empty?

Thanks
hel.

 Not unless you change the java code and recompile xwiki-core.

Would be great to add that to the preferences.

Re: [xwiki-users] No users and groups

2009-05-25 Thread hel-o

Hi,

and sorry to bother you, but i really would need help on this. I cannot
manage rights without groups and users and i cannot figure out why i cannot
see them.

upgraded to 1.8.4 imported the default xar, cleaned the browser cache -

users and groups in the main wiki are ok
no users and groups are displayed in the virtual wiki

firebug shows 2 errors (e.g. calling rights management):

missing ; before statement
[Break on this error] var denymessage = Sie sind
ge...zen?.replace('__right__', self.right);\n
Javascript.jtp (Linie 12)

displayUsersAndGroups is not defined
[Break on this error] var ta = new ASSTable(?xpage=ge...upstable,
displayUsersAndGroups, true);

It would be great if somebody could give me a hint.

Thanks
hel.

Re: [xwiki-users] WYSIWYG 2.0 - why rel=__blank

And when you take a look at the wiki code then you get:

[xwiki-users] WYSIWYG 2.0 (1.8.3)

2009-05-19 Thread hel-o

Hi,

and first of all, 1.8.3 is great, the link dialog is working fine and all in
all syntax 2.0 and wysiwyg for 2.0 seem to be of age now;)

Some things i found in context with the parent field and the link dialog.

To have pages in tree-view in the link dialog the parent has to be set as
space.page. If the parent is set only as page or as wiki:space.page
(like it is set automatically in a virtual wiki environment, by the way
great that the parent is set anyway now), the Page is displayed in the main
level of the tree view.

Cheers

One remark to the link dialog.

Having 3 steps to make, to create a new wiki link looks good in the design
but not when you work with it.

I know that its late, but i would suggest that you always have only one
step, when you create a link.

2009-04-30 Thread hel-o

Hi,

Anca Paula Luca wrote:

 Hi Hel,

 thanks for reporting this behaviour!

 Of what I experimented just now, this seems to be caused by the REST API
 (used
 by the tree) for getting pages and the way it uses the passed parent
 parameter. Specifically, it does not interpret the value of the document
 parent
 field wrt the document's space.

 I see 2 solutions:
 1/ either we change the panel to set the parent field to a fully qualified
 name
 (when a user inserts only a document name in the parent field, we append
 the space)
 2/ either we fix the REST API.

 Solution 1 might cause problems when it will come to multiwikis, when the
 parent
 can be prefixed by the wiki name as well (wiki:Space.Page).

 Or:
 3/ we change the parent-child relation in the explorer tree so that we
 make it
 survive such situations.

 Happy coding,
 Anca Luca

Shouldn't there be a general concept for that in XWiki, wether its okay when
you only use Page in links or that Wiki:Space.Page is the only way thats
accepted?

Don't know but it seems to me that this example shows there could be a bunch
of problems if different syntax is allowed.

[xwiki-users] Links, WYSIWYG 2.0 (1.8.2)

2009-04-28 Thread hel-o

Hi,

the link dialog works much better than in 1.8.1, but one thing i found:

i don't use the space for the page parent when i add the parent manually
(which i had to, since it wasn't added automatically in the new syntax)
because i found, that it's not needed to work (as it is in links when the
link is in the same space).

Now when i want to create a link to a wiki-page i get the tree-view (which
is great) but it seems i cant see all those pages where no space is
provided.

worked perfect. Just added the xwiki.db.prefix and changed the db names.

What i'm wondering about is, in the hibernate file the db name is xwiki but
adding the prefex the db name is xwiki_xwiki. I mean it works but shouldn't the
name in the hibernat file be the same as the db name or is the prefex added
here too?

Cheers,
hel.

[xwiki-users] Some dokumentation questions

2009-04-03 Thread hel-o

Hi,

Sometimes im confused because i cant find things in the documentation i find by
searching in other parts of the XWiki HomePage e.g XWikiSyntax Page -
Platform, XWikiShortCuts - Platform.

Shouldn't those things at least be linked to the Documentation also?

In fact i'm missin a general XWiki Features part in the Dokumentation.

In case of the Short Cuts, in the new WYSIWYG some shortcuts work like Ctrl+B
for bold but i can't find which ones exist.

Is there some more documentation on the WebDAV feature than that?

http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/WebDAV
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Configuration#HConfiguringWebDAV28since1729

Just cant find how to connect to XWiki via WebDAV

My starting point was always the xwiki.org Documentation Page

http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ProductDocumentation

But IMHO it schould not be organized by products. There should be a general
section with links to the administration and development docu and links to the
platform features and a product section with the rest (by the way are'nt
enterprise manager and watch applications and the platform is not a product not
a application)

I agree, we've actually talked about doing this with other committers.
In addition we've decided that we want to have only one product (XE)
and make all other products just add-ons/extensions of XE.

The platform is indeed not a product.

I wanted to work on this reorg but haven't found the time yet. If
someone wants to start it let me know and we can talk it over.

Re: [xwiki-users] GWT-WYSIWYG Bugs

2009-04-01 Thread hel-o

Hi,

To remove the list formatting you can either use the outdent button from
the tool bar or place the caret before item1 and press Shift+Tab.

The behavior you describe can be reproduced also in the default editor (
http://www.mozilla.org/editor/midasdemo/ ) and I think it is the correct
one. It may not be natural at first look, but consider the following
example:

Dont know but just tried openoffice and there you remove list formatting with
the list formatting butten and change the indent of the list with the outdent
button.

 3. When you undo the list formating and redo the list formating a paragraph
 is added between the two list items

 - item1

 - item2

I need more input on this. How do you get the list in the first place?

i had an list with two items

- item1
- item2

removed the list formatting with the list formatting button

item1

- item2

and changed the formatting to list formatting again

- item1

- item2

tried that with the outdent button too, same behavior. also tried it in the
default editor mentioned above, same behavior. but theres one difference, if i
remove the paragraph (line break) what ever in XWiki i get

- item1item2

In the mentioned editor i get

- item1
- item2

Re: [xwiki-users] Programming rights in virtual wiki

2009-03-27 Thread hel-o

Hi,

use case would be, that any action a local user might want to do that needs
programming rights is not possible (using codes, macros, applications (Import
Export Application) from the code zone or creating own scripts using Velocity).
And i would not like to grant every user who needs programming rights, because
he wants to do one of the things mentioned above a global account.

For me it is not that much of a problem, because i have also an global account
and i really understand your concerns about security. But its also limiting the
abilities of a virtual wiki environment.

But what i get from what your saying is, that its not possible to restrict the
programming rights for a local user only to his virtual wiki.

 all the wikis in the farm very easily since a local user would get
 access to a powerful API.

 To be more detailed, a user with programming rights has absolute
 access
 on the whole server (using Groovy), and in a public farm if a wiki
 admin
 gives himself programming rights, he can seriously affect the entire
 server. Imagine if somebody could do anything on the whole Blogspot
 farm...

 and is it planned for a future release to have the possibility to
 have programming rights in a virtual wiki?

 No.

 It depends. There is an issue on jira.xwiki.org about having an option
 for this, defaulting to false, but there's no requirement for this.
 Programming rights are really a dangerous thing, I don't see any
 need to
 grant them to anybody except one global account that decides what is
 safe.

Indeed, if you need programming rights for a given api maybe a better
way would be to provide that API without programming rights (if it's
safe).
What's your use case?

Thanks

Hi,

don't know if thats another use case but at the moment i cant copy pages in the
virtual wiki. It works in the main wiki and i tried in the virtual wiki with
the global user and the local user. When i copy a page sucess message appears,
but when i click the link for the new page, the page does not exist.

Also the ImportPages Page of the Import/Export Application did not work when i
imported it with the local user. Saved it with the global user and it worked.

For me its not really transparent what works and what does not work. And its
true that you don't need programming privileges for velocity but you need it
when you access the restricted API with velocity.

Well maybe its just a documentation issue:)

By the way XWiki 1.8 is great

In the case of adding a paragraph before a table (or the shortcuts in general),
i would not never think of UpArrow or DownArrow. Mayby Ctrl + Enter or Alt +

2009-03-13 Thread hel-o

Hi,

new thing i found:

When you reach the end of the editor box and you make a new Paragraph the
Cursor disappears and you have to scroll to see the new paragraph.

When you start writing text, the display is updated and you see your
paragraph but shouldnt that happen as soon as you start the new paragraph
(type return)?

Also tried with the old editor, there it worked that way.

Re: [xwiki-users] Export (Pictures, 1.8RC2)

2009-03-11 Thread hel-o

Hi,

 IMO FOP has an issue if it cannot render images with display block.
 Adding a semantic-less div wrapper with text-align:center and leaving
 the image in-line just for FOP doesn't seem right, especially since it
 can generate some complications for the WYSIWYG (like deleting the image
 and leaving the wrapper as garbage, placing the caret inside the
 wrapper, etc.).

May be right, but fact is rtf/pdf export with centered graphics worked in
syntax 1.0 and does not work in syntax 2.0. And it does not look good if you
get an error on export.

 See http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_class_float.asp

 By aligning the image on the left you let the text float on the right,
 and the other way around.

In the old WYSIWYG editor (syntax 1.0) you had left and float left for
horizontal alignment. I now what float left is standing for but IMO when i
align a graphic left i do not expect a float left but a left alignment.

Re: [xwiki-users] RTF-Export (1.8RC2)

2009-03-10 Thread hel-o

Hi,

and first of all. My mistake, rtf works and i just didn't notice. But two
things I'd still like to know:

I'm working on OSX and can't open the exported RTF with Pages or TextEdit
(Default for rtf in OSX). Installed OpenOffice, there it works.

I get the message that the file is possibly damaged, not complete or in a
format that was not expected.

I also get some more messages but in this case they are all of the same
type:

But i got a punch of other error messages related to export (pdf, rtf) you
can see in the attached log-File.

 Last time I tried tracking this down, I noticed errors complaining about a
 missing directory .fop so I created it:
   drwxrwxr-x  2 tomcat tomcat_users 4096 2009-01-20 13:18 .fop/

 And have found it populated with the same file ever since (and a whole
 different set of error messages, like the ones seen above):
   /usr/java/.fop:
   total 28
   drwxr-xr-x 34 root   root  4096 2009-03-06 12:41 ../
   -rw-rw-r--  1 tomcat tomcat_users 15893 2009-01-20 16:29 fop-fonts.cache
   drwxrwxr-x  2 tomcat tomcat_users  4096 2009-01-20 13:18 ./

 Adding /usr/java/.fop prevented errors like this on exporting PDF's (and
 perhaps RTF's too?)

Where did you create that directory and did that help?

Thanks
hel.
