[vchkpw] valias bugs w/patch

2003-07-14 Thread Ole Gjerde
Hi everybody,

I found that there are a couple of serious logic errors in the
valias/vdelivermail code. In 3 seperate places the return code from
deliver_mail is not checked. That means that if a valias is local and
can't be delivered, the mail will go into the ether. Bad stuff.

Patch is attached. Where the return value is currently checked, a
vexit(100) is used. I use vexit(111) instead, since in my opinion those
are temporary errors and the email shouldn't actually bounce. Also, I
think MOST of the vexits in vdelivermail.c should be defers. The only
time it should bounce would be when there is no configured recipient.
Any system error, looping, etc should defer it so when the sysadmin
fixes it the email gets delivered. Other opinions may differ, but that's
mine :)

Ole Gjerde

2003-07-14 Thread Shane Chrisp
That usually means you havnt set the alias for root or postmaster or
you have a forward going to an account that doenst have a physical
Maildir. Have a look at the queue and see who the email is for. You
can usually do that by qmailctl queue if you have followed most
qmail guides that are around.

2003-07-14 Thread Bård Tommy Nilsen

I checked this on a test server og it failed, but
When I tried to relay trough my test server with an to

Could someone test it one their machine ?

The reason I posted is that even though it's an old issue, apparently now
spammers are discovering it. If you follow the thread, it seems it's a
(common?) mistake in the tcpserver setup where the user has omitted the
hostname argument. In that case, relaying is wide open for anyone using
smtp-auth and any user/pass.

If anyone has other details (which smtp-auth patch is at issue, etc.),
post away so it gets in the archives.

[vchkpw] Auth mod

2003-07-14 Thread Kevin Beyers
Hello, I am in the process of converting an old post.office mail server to
qmail/vpopmail/courier/qmailadmin/vqmailadmin server. I came up with a problem that I
home some one can help me with

After looking at post.office account list I found the following problems

1. Users login as User, not [EMAIL PROTECTED]
2. Several users login as numbers like 23433 = [EMAIL PROTECTED]
3. Several users logins are very long like john_smith_foobar_com = [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

What I want to do is set vpopmail to use a mysql server and conform to mysql auth
specification. I am willing to use a secondary mod to solve this problem but need
suggections on what ones and how.

If I only had problem 1. I would change the path to /etc/passwd in the code to run a
standalone passwd list but /etc/passwd doesn't like problem 2 and 3.

[vchkpw] Mail Scanning - MailScanner vs. qmail-scanner

2003-07-14 Thread Jeremy Oddo
For anyone with answers, I've got a few questions:

(1) Does MailScanner work under a vpopmail setup?

(2) Does MailScanner provide roughly the same features as qmail-scanner?

if so, (3) Which scanner is better?

(4) Do you need perl-suid with MailScanner?

It looks like they both can interface to ClamAV and SA, but is one better
than the other?

Thanks for any info,
Jeremy

Take a look at vchkpw. That's the portion of vpopmail that
authenticates a user, and (I think) returns the path to the maildir.

It might be possible to add an extra table to the database of special
username to full email lookups (like 23433 - [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
john_smith_foobar_com - [EMAIL PROTECTED]). You could modify
vchkpw to check that database and then use the actual email address for
subsequent lookups.

If you use SquirrelMail or SqWebMail, it might not work (since the web
mail program would have the wrong email address).

You might even be able to do something wacky like store the special
username in the GECOS (Real Name field in QmailAdmin) field of the
user record. That would allow for easy management via qmailadmin.

Users would also be able to switch over to the proper
username/password for their address, allowing you to support the old
and new login methods.

Another method, that would be a real pain, would be to create a default
domain with all of the special usernames, then create all of the real
domains and make aliases to the special accounts. E.g.,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] becomes a forward to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Just put a # in the .qmail-user file. vdelivermail can't handle
comments (the # line) in .qmail files, but qmail-local should process
a .qmail-user file before vdelivermail even gets involved.

Another way that works for both qmail-local and vdelivermail is

|/bin/true

or

/dev/null

Note that you can bounce messages as well with a .qmail-user file like
this:

|/var/qmail/bin/bouncesaying 'Invalid account'

Justin,

I like where you're going with parts of this interface, but I noticed that you have many buttons rendered as graphics with text inside. Unfortunately, this breaks QmailAdmin's multi-language support.

Would it be possible to modify the templates to use straight text instead? That way we could move the text into the language files and allow for translations into all supported languages.

I had considered an interface where there was a thin menu bar across the top of each screen with something like this:

Main Menu | [+] Email Accounts | [+] Forwards | [+] Mail Robots | [+] Mailing Lists | Log Out

The [+] would be linked to add, the main text would be linked to the list page for each account type.

2003-07-14 Thread Justin Couto

Yeah, I get your point; it is a little
XP-ish. However, it looks great and
them main advantages is that it is so much easier for a user to
understand. Also, it break the navigation into a side bar rather then being
surrounded by the qmailadmin shell which makes application integration much
easier. And if you really hate the
XP look that much, you can always change the graphics. They are all in the images
directory. So you can give it what
ever look you want.

We integrated this in with
squirrelmail. We iframe in squirrelmail
and qmailadmin into our companys management application. This allows our users to login with
their email address and it lets them manage their account through qmail admin
and check their mail at the same time without having to login into 2 different
applications. It is slick and a
seamless integration.

Hello Everyone,

My business partners and I finally
had the time to put up our changes to the qmailadmin interface. We have changed the look and feel and
navigation. Our changes make it a
snap to iframe qmailadmin into other web applications. This is the main reason we changed
it. We also changed the way adding,
managing, and deleting forwards and mailing lists are displayed in an attempt
to make it less confusing to the user.
I wrote a few weeks back asking who I should send the changes to and I
was told to post them for download.
As a result, we have set up a URL where you can go and download our
changes. We have also added screen
shots so you can see what some of the changes look like before do your
install. We have tested everything
heavily and as far as we know there are no bugs.

I hope this helps some of you and we
really hope it gets adopted as the new qmailadmin interface. Please give us feedback in the mailing
list and if you would like to see these changes in future releases of qmail
admin please show your support.

Very Nice. I really like it.
I would vote Yes to using it as the new interface look.

Looks like there are some hard coded hosts names in
the show_login.html template.

Do you have any examples of using iframe to incorporate
qmailadmin into other web applications?

Thanks

2003-07-14 Thread Justin Couto

Tom,

My partners and I will look into
this. I know we can use tables to
define the button borders instead of graphics which will still look pretty
good. We could also us button
styles to accomplish this. Either
of these solutions with fix the language compatibility issue.

I think it would be great if there was a
way to specify whether you wanted to use language specific graphics for buttons
or text buttons to comply with all languages.

Another option is that we could include
graphics for every language. We
have a Photoshop template for all of the graphics. So changing the text in them is a
snap. We could also include our Photoshop
templates with the release if you might want to consider using the graphics
buttons.

Let me know which option would be
best. When you do, we will begin
work on it.

Thanks Tom,
